I've eaten at this place going on 8 years now. It's great!!! HOWEVER the only reason they are not receiving 5 from me is because I feel the business is god awful as far as punctuality is concerned. They clearly have times posted of store hours and it almost seems they either always open late and close early. I feel the business should value its customers more and value their time especially someone like myself who drives extra far all the time just to eat here.. I would try and call but the number they have attached to the business is not active so it's always just a shot in the dark when driving to this establishment to find out if they are open or not. I was hungry and couldn't decide where to have lunch, drove pass this joint on the way home and decided to stop in for a visit. From the outside, it looks like a happening place, but when I walked in, it looks like it was about to be shut down... Anyways, they have a lunch special for $4.99 that comes with a drink. I couldn't decide what to get so I went for the safest one.. jerk chicken. I wasn't sure about the oxtail or curry goat stuff... The lunch special came with the meat and red beans and rice. The jerk chicken look a little on the anorexic side, but the flavoring was pretty good. The red beans and rice was a bit too mushy and the drink wasn't what i'm used to. Place is terrible! Don't waste your time. The girl working is super rude! I went to buy a spicy patty. I bought 2 the first one was mild. Not even mild! It tasted like Regular ground needs with NO flavor. When I asked her to switch out the second one she said she could not, that I would have to buy another one. So I left it right on her counter. OMG, I love Jamaican food and this place is so good! The beef patties are great. I am not a fan of chicken patties so I have no idea if they are any good. I've had the oxtail and the jerk chicken there. The oxtail was so tender and so perfectly spiced! It fell apart in my mouth! both plates comes with rice, cabbage (yummy!) and some plantains. Jerk Shack is your average hole in the wall looking Jamaican restaurant, with your tipical Jamaican personality (yes a stereotype) but the food makes up for the looks. Man their gravy alone is worth the visit, it's sweet flavor with butter beans, my mouth waters thinking about it. I ordered 2 dishes both curry. A roti, and curry chicken with rice and beans. The roti skin was almost crunchy. They didn't cook it completely or they gave me an extremely old product. The rice was old...a few days old it seemed. Although the curry smelled great my taste buds were far from impressed with the nonsense this restaurant/grocery store offered. The grocery area literally had about 9 items on the shelf and even with the store having only 3 customers it took 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge I was a patron. There are about 5-7 tables inside. In my opinion, this is a perfect little simple/divey place to get lunch. It would also be great for takeout. The flavor of the jerk is not to hot and yes it is salty as the other reviewers noted. I enjoyed it. It was what I was looking for. Is it the best Jamaican food I have ever had? The rumors are true. Customer service here is non-existent. The guy at the counter was rude and borderline disrespectful. He was arguing with another customer and didn't acknowledged us. Even worst he made a scene with the other customer for everyone to see. The whole thing was very uncomfortable to watch. My children started feeling uneasy and wanted to leave immediately. After waiting standing for our order, my husband left one dollar as a tip (not sure why since it was takeout and we were standing watching the argument) and the guy got all agitated and screamed "one dollar? I have had plenty of authentic Caribbean food. just like any other culture there're different ways to make a dish. I have not had the jerk chicken but Their brown stew chicken and ox tails are very very good. The rice and peas are great. This is not Chinese food, the rice and peas aren't supposed to be dry. The cabbage Medley is also awesome. The reason I am giving this place three stars is because they don't stick to their hours. sometimes closing before 6 on Friday and Saturday, when the Web and store door obviously says they close at 9pm. Went by today because I was craving Oxtails. Purchased the large order. While the Oxtails have always been good here, today the flavor carried a very special surprise. The Oxtails were spicier than they have previously been. They left a mild afterburn in my mouth along with just enough of a gentle sweetness. Today is December 26, 2016. I pass this place often because I live close by, but read all the terrible reviews on Yelp. I should have went to my normal place. $13.25 after taxes for a small goat plate was hardly worth it. The goat was mostly small pieces of fat and bone in a greasy gravy. The rice and peas were kind of sweet. The plantains were cold and unripe; and the beef patty was totally cooked to death. Today, my husband and I decided to visit the Jerk Shack to pick up some patties. We ordered three chicken and one veggie. Let me first say that my husband is Jamaican and he knows good Jamaican food. We both have eaten at several Jamaican restaurants in Atlanta and other areas. So I feel that we have eaten plenty of our share of Jamaican food to know what is good and what is not. Let me start off by saying this i visited 04/10/2016..... This was my first time visiting yesterday... Yes the customer service was good && the food looked ok....BUT...... I ordered brown Stew chicken!! when I got home and open up to eat it smelled good as hell but that first taste I had to spit it out..... The Stew really had NO seasoning and the brown Stew gravy was sweet as hell like sesame seed chicken and the gravy was lumpy it wasn't smooth... It's seems as if they rushed to make it but didn't make sure it was cooked all the way..... I have NEVER ate brown Stew chicken that taste like that &&& I know how it's cooked because Im an island girl!!! Not only that they have a side where they sell candy I bought 2 snicker bars... I bit into it && it tasted old... I looked at the wrapper and it was dated 10/2014.... Hmmmmm we are def in 2016.... That sent me over board!!! Honestly i will never go that again...
