My friend and I decided to have jewelry appraised as it will soon be time to gift pieces to the next generation and it is important to know the value of our bracelets, earrings, necklaces, and pins. Louie helped with logistics, and Deborah showed tremendous expertise in evaluating gems, precious metals, and craftsmanship using a microscope, acids, scales, and so on. We could see her integrity in this work, as the cost of the assessment is independent of the ultimate value of the piece. Our hopes or even conviction of the great price we could fetch upon resale was irrelevant to her appraisal. At the same time, she is a genuine human being, with compassion and kindness and a great capacity to emotionally connect to us and our jewelry. We went to Deborah a year ago to get our engagement rings appraised. First let me say that experience was fantastic! She's honest, to the point and got the job done while taking the time to truly help us understand the jewelry we had brought in. We had known my engagement ring wasn't set correctly before we brought it in, and it had been a sloppy job by the last guy to just paint the prongs of the ring white gold after he accidentally made the entire ring rose gold. Deborah came to our rescue, offering to help us recreate my ring to what it was originally intended to be. A lot of people in the jewelry industry would have taken advantage of us in this moment and up-charged us, but Deborah was beyond fair with her pricing. We had no time line, which allowed Deborah to take her time with ensuring us perfection. (She even told us she remade it 3 times just to be sure we got the most perfect piece!) Let me tell you, this ring has become more than I ever knew I wanted. She aced the assignment and some! Now it's easy to clean and keep sparkling, it sits low out of my way as I'm someone who's works with my hands, and it's design emulates exactly what I had asked for "something that hugs the stone naturally, as though it occurred in nature, delicate and soft". I'm blown away. Lastly I'd like to comment on the cleanser we received from her. Not only does it now have our rings shining better than ever, but we trust that it will sit much better with our skin as it's all natural! Other cleansers had left my fiancé broken out in rashes on her hand, but we've had nothing but good experience with this cleanser so far! First of all, her name is so fitting according to Google Deborah is "one of the major judges (charismatic military leaders, not juridical figures) in the story of how Israel takes the land of Canaan. She is the only female judge, the only one to be called a prophet, and the only one described as performing a judicial function." Yes, Deborah is my prophet, my inspired teacher. I came to her with a diamond ring that had been damaged when I hit it against a doorknob. Although the ring was insured, the appraisal was more than three years old. Deborah explained that the policy did not guarantee the amount for which it was appraised. I learned to read to your policy carefully. With care and grace, she showed me under an magnifying apparatus what damage had occurred. She proceeded (here is where her grace and caring were most important) to explain exactly what this meant; and how this impacted the value of the diamond. Thank goodness she was there, for the news was devastating. She put me at ease by explaining the process moving forward. A few days later I received a 15-page damage report which I submitted to my insurance company, who I believed was shocked because it went beyond the details and photographs that they had anticipated. Now this review alone does not do justice to her as an appraiser; where her knowledge, accolades, expertise and professionalism are unrivaled. I have been a customer of The Jewelry Appraiser for ten years and I would not think of using anyone else. Deborah Villepigue possesses all the qualities you would want in a jewelry appraiser: she is trustworthy, experienced, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. I first used Deborah in 1995 to appraise my wife's engagement ring and wedding band for insurance. Deborah provided me with an extensive report on the rings, including photographs, that enabled me to get the rings insured for their replacement cost. My mother had dozens of pieces of jewelry, and we had no idea whether any of the pieces had any value. Deborah patiently went through the entire collection, using her specialized equipment to examine some of the pieces. With her great expertise, we were able to identify which pieces had real value, and which items were simply "costume" jewelry. More recently, my wife decided that she wanted new settings for her rings, to make them more modern and safer to wear, as some of the stones were loose. Deborah worked with us to redesign the rings. My wife and Deborah talked about what the new rings should look like, and Deborah got to work on new designs. AHHMAZZZINGGG!! Let me first start by saying I have no clue when It comes to cuts, clarity, diamonds in general, sooo when my fiancé and I went in Deborah explained EVERYTHING, and showed me everything. When we went the first thing that she showed me was how to clean my ring I was shocked as to how SHINY my ring got and then I learned that a cleaning does make a difference.
