It would be a pleasant surprise to find a take out restaurant that uses "fresh ingredients" as apposed to buying their ingredients from GFS, Superstore or Costco. Doesn't matter what style of food. Chinese, Italian, Greek. This is why most of the take out places in this city taste the same! We've eaten all over North America and most cities take pride in their creations. With market fresh ingredients and care in preparation. And the customers don't mind paying a little more for amazing products. We had hoped that we'd found that place in "The Joint" but unfortunately the "Calzone" fell very short and tasted like every Pizza we've ever had here. Someone should take a trip to Montreal or Ottawa to find out how good pizza is actually made! Call Giordano's Pizza in Chicago and ask how they do Calzone! Stopped in for lunch on a Thursday after just arriving into town for a long weekend. It wasn't busy; there were ably a few people in the shop and one ahead of us to order. You can order whole pizzas or pizza by the slice which they will heat up. What most attracted us to here is the gluten-free, vegan options since we can't eat gluten, dairy or egg. Do you know how hard it is to eat pizza (let alone decent pizza) with those 3 allergies?! It's tough. We got a whole pie on the gf rice crust, which doesn't share a cooking surface with the wheat crusts. It was great! The crust was thin and crispy (although, a tiny bit underdone in the center) and the toppings were plentiful. I'm not going to lie, every single time I've come to this pizza spot I've been deep a couple beverages. I am the prime drunk munchies customer and since The Joint is situated riiiiiiight next to the bars I usally frequent in Victoria, I tend to stop by here whenever I'm in town. The last time I came by, they were busy, busy, busy. I ordered 10 slices of pizza, no joke, and ate probably 7/10 of them. Did I feel great at the time? Absolutely. Did I feel great the next day? Absolutely not. Did I work my ass off at the gym two days later? Hell yeah I did. #balance Anyway, back to the pizza. Damn, that was good. I throughly enjoyed the veggie lovers and hawaiian slices. For those 10 slices of pizza, I paid for $18. Which is a killer deal in my opinion, given how large the slices are. There are also side options like calzones, nachos, cheesy rolls, and salad, if that's your thing. You can order online for delivery or pick up for take out as well. The gentleman serving me was very kind, friendly, and patient. I wish I remembered his name, but he deserves a raise for putting up with a bunch of alcohol infused rascals at an ungodly hour. We went here based on reviews, but after looking around and checking with a few patrons, we decided to leave. First, it appears quite dingy and dirty. Second, there are only a few booths and tables and they were grimy. This place seems to be oriented to takeout. I attempted to throw a pizza party for my staff today. Placed my large order through The Joint and recieved confirmation. $150 was charged to my credit card. Well after over an hour passing and the pizza not arriving, I go back to the page amd it changes to "your order didn't go through" How is it im charged and it's confirmed but yet it didn't go through?! I then attempted to call The Joint MANY MANY times to fix the issue and they do not answer thier phone whatsoever and the voice mail says not to leave a message because they won't check. Rediculous. My husband and I went with his mother and bf to Victoria, they are really inexperienced with scoping out vegan food (they are trying to lose weight) , but we wanted to show them there is such a thing as vegan pizza, for a treat. They speak French and could not read the menu, so we just ordered 2 different pizzas and everyone shared and it was easier this way. I ordered a veg Hawaiian with mushroom, and my husband got a veg pepperoni, zucchini, black olive pizza. My Hawaiian came out with no veg ham on it, so we had to complain. The guy taking our order didn't hear/forgot about it I guess. Not sure why he thought I'd want pineapple and mushroom only. Even with extra cold ham on the side, my pizza tasted the best. Zucchini on veg pizza has no taste, so I think we could have designed our other pizza better. Also I would ask next time to be easy on the cheese. Holy there is a lot of daiya cheese on there. I can't believe they can afford to pile it on. You need a little less daiya than regular cheese for a good pizza, it's too much and not quite the same texture or creaminess. So people who normally like lots of real cheese may not like the same amount of vegan cheese. Glad this place caters to so many allergies, that's great. I am gluten-intolerant (cannot eat wheat, barley, spelt, etc), so that means it's incredibly difficult to find places where I can actually eat something. Usually I end up stuck with salads that are topped with oil and vinegar...or I go ahead and eat gluten and get sicker than a dog. As you can imagine, this gets old after a while. So when we took a trip to Victoria and we came across The Joint and it said Gluten-Free right there in the window, I did a happy dance. It's been SO long since I've been able to eat at a pizza place. If I have pizza, I have to make it myself. But these guys do it for you! They cater to allergies and food preferences, like gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, lactose-free. It' s so awesome. We had our Valentine's Day dinner here! It's not the typical place one would think of for romance, but we are especially fond of pizza and each other and we aren't too pretentious to think of pizza for a special dinner. This place came up on our search for Gluten-Free options and it did not disappoint! The selection of pizzas were very good, or we could build our own. They only had GF crust in the small size, so I asked if they would make mine heart shaped. They obliged! I ordered the bacon cheeseburger pizza because my husband would also enjoy it. They were out of ground beef so I subbed pepperoni and it tasted great. I loved the pizza and when I squirted the chipotle ranch design on it, it tasted even better! The GF crust was a beautiful dark golden brown underneath, even though the top looked a little under cooked. My husband's pizza (the special: roasted garlic, pepperoni and pineapple) was served with large canned peach wedges on it. The odd thing is that annoying Presidents of the USA "Peaches" song was playing while they were building our pizzas. Was it a prank? He sent the pizza back and I was eating my last slice of pizza when his was served. I've noticed in Canada and England, they aren't big on providing ice for soda. They didn't have cups or ice for my bottled tea. I like my iced tea ice cold. It was fine, but it could have been great! After bookmarking this a few weeks ago, I ate here tonight and I could not wait to get back to write a review. Their gluten free pizza crust is AMAZING. Best GF pizza I've ever had. I got the sundried tomato pesto sauce with spinach, mozzarella and garlic. I was delighted that the garlic was FRESH roasted garlic. YUM. I devoured an entire pizza that I'm sure was supposed to be for 2 people to share. They also have an entire case of gluten free desserts. Carrot cake, brownies, cookies. I opted for the peanut butter cookie- and let me tell you, it was the best peanut butter cookie I've ever had. Not just the best gluten free peanut butter cookie, the best peanut butter cookie in comparison to all peanut butter cookies. Was happy to see that it was a no frills place- you walk up, order your pizza, then sit down and wait for it. They also have pre made GF slices to go, if you'd like to take some with you. Thank you again Yelp! We were in Victoria staying at a hotel downtown... need pizza... so what do we do? Check Yelp of course. Called The Joint and ordered two pizzas - El Diablo and a Big D. On the recommendation of the other fine reviewers, we also ordered cheese buns, and then Reverse Nanaimo Bars. We don't have all kinds of complicated food requirements, so this evaluation isn't based on the "gluten scale" it is based on flavour and texture. Both pizzas were really good. I think their crusts could be a bit firmer, but the ingredients are so loaded on there... not much could hold it all up. Good quality ingredients too. Cheese Buns = hot melty cheese, chives, bacon bits - could live on them. The Dessert Bars - great for sharing because they are big and really tasty. Not junk ingredients. These are non-traditional pizza's so don't expect to order a Hawaiian (much to my kids' chagrin) but they are yummy and arrived hot. AND me being in the mood for a pizza.. but needing it to be a *gluten-free* pizza.. since I have been recently diagnosed as afflicted with Celiac Disease.. (wheat-gluten intolerance)... Man.. harboring this affliction on your home base is a nuisance enough.. but one that you can work around in your home kitchen fairly easily.. On the road.. however.. when you're traveling and you're eating out most of the time.. you just have no idea if the foods the restaurants are serving you.. do or do not include some amount of wheat product.. in one or two of their ingredients.. even where you would not normally expect such ingredients.. so you have to ask.. and depending on the knowledgeability of the chef on duty.. you can get varying degrees of assurance that certain foods are *for sure* wheat-gluten free. So anyway.. we're walking along the waterfront of Victoria.. and it's getting dark.. and I'm getting hungry.. and oh my.. here's a little pizza-parlor that even posts on its sidewalk sign.. gluten-free pizza!!! (the crust is made from brown-rice flour rather than wheat flour). I've never *had* gluten-free pizza.. so I'm game.. OK.. they tacked on an additional two-dollar charge for the trouble of maintaining and breaking out the brown-rice flour dough.. and for making sure the board on which they prepare it does not get cross-contaminated with wheat flour from their *regular* fare.. but.. hell.. I'm not complaining.. Anyway.. how does gluten-free pizza crust compare to wheat flour pizza crust?... well.. the experience is different.. There is nothing soft-spun about the gluten-free crust.. it has more the brittle consistency of hard cracker.. I found it easier to kind of just slurp the topping off the crust and *then* enjoy kind of gnawing on the crust with some of the topping flavors soaked in.. rather than trying to eat the topping and the crust together... So it's not heaven.. by any means... but it *is* pizza (ahhh!!!) and the experience is not wholey devoid of pizza-eating pleasure.. as a matter of fact.. the brown-rice crust has a certain flavor and texture all its own and I would even say well-worth trying for its own sake.. Oh yes.. the kids in charge of taking orders and preparing the pizza were even reasonably attentive.. The Joint has serious customer service issues. The last time I called for pizza at 8:30pm to be delivered (they stop deliveries at 10) and the guy told me to hold on and said to someone beside him "Uhhh do you still feel like delivering? I can tell her no" Okaayyy..... I called again another night and the girl who took the order said the delivery would take about an hour to get there. I considered it and said ok (it was 6:00 when I ordered) and at 7:45pm I called and asked where my pizza was. She said they were waiting to hear from their delivery guy, and when they did they would make my pizza and it would be the next out the door. So... no one could call and tell me my one hour wait turned into almost 2hours with the pizza not even made cause their delivery guy was MIA?? What a waste of time. The Joint caters to everyone! That's why I love it so much. Gluten-intolerant? Eat some pizza! Vegan? Eat some pizza! Angry at the world? Eat some frickin' pizza! Once upon a time I worked next door at the Tattoo Zoo. Even though I barely had any money, I managed to eat Joint pizza once a week or so - how could I resist? It's reasonably priced, and it's so very vegan friendly. They have faux meats, vegan versions of nearly every sauce, and vegan cheese, plus a bunch of different crust options. The Joint also offers food that's not pizza. Specifically, calzones. I used to miss Pizza Pops so much (gross, right?) but at The Joint I can eat calzones, which are like pizza pops in that pizza pops are sort of bastardized calzones. I've never had a bad experience with Joint food or service, and I have eaten there probably fifty times or more. 5 stars. I never miss visiting this place when I'm in town, and they've gotten me through more than one long tattoo session. read more

My wife refuses to get pizza delivered from anywhere aside from The Joint. Why? It's not the pizza, nor is it the price. It's the super-delicious garlic cheese rolls, which cost $5 for 6 of them (though one time we found 8 in our box). They are gooey, rich, cheesy, and much too delicious for anybody's own good. The pizza itself is hit or miss. Any crust at the Joint runs the risk of being much too soggy. Your safest bet to ensure a firm crust is to order the thin crust, but it feels insubstantial, nor does it fill you up. The organic white crust often holds up, but often becomes much too soggy. You are pressing your luck. Make sure to avoid watery toppings, such as pineapple and caramelized onion if you want your pizza to hold up with this crust. This crust happens to be the tastiest Make sure to avoid the whole wheat crust, (and specifically, the happy hippy), unless you like your pizza spongy. I like the Joint's selection of toppings, but they really need to work on the consistency of both the crusts and the consistency of their pizzaiolos. I've had some awesome pies from here, and some terrible ones. The Joint features a vast selection of toppings and alternative crusts (yes - gluten free pizza for your friends with Celiac's Disease). Delivery costs $5, unless your order amounts to more than $25. read more

I am cursed with the need for tasty gluten free AND lactose free pizza... and I am a foodie so that is no easy feat. That said I was impressed with the Pulled Pork pizza I ordered with The Joint's awesome in-house made rice-flour pizza crust and vegan cheese; I tried vegan cheese for the first time as the employee suggested and it was better than soy! What an amazing gluten free venue!!! Our now 11 year old is celiac and he can't eat at most restaurants when he was a child. This was the first pizza joint (pun intended) that he could eat at and not get sick! We luckily discovered this place 4 years ago! Our son has had gluten free pizza for school pizza day so he would not feel different then his peers thanks to the joint!!! I LOVE THE JOINT! I'm vegan, and it is incredibly rare for a vegan to be able to go to a pizzeria and order a pizza, brownie, cookie, calzone, you name it. The joint also does take out orders (not sure if they deliver). They have all the basics of a pizzeria for vegans, gluten-free folks, and meat eaters. It's a treat for me to go out here and get a slice of pizza! Their service is always friendly and the inside of their establishment is really cool looking. Once when I got a piece of pizza from the cooler and the lady heated it up she burned it and gave me a new piece of pizza free of charge! I have to give a review for this place after my wife and I stumbled (literally) upon it a couple of years ago. After a night of being out on the town and drinking copious amounts of beer/wine/liquor...whatever we drank...we found ourselves hungry and in need. Yes, we wandered into The Joint, yes we were the typical annoying drunks that have to comment on the name. But, we did leave with one of the best pizzas we have ever found and it has become a staple of our homemade pizza nights at home. I have eaten here on several occasions now, and the pizza is definitely tasty. My go-to order is a perogie pizza on whole wheat crust with cheese rolls. The pizza crust is amazing, which for me is a huge bonus as I usually hate crust. The only downside is the inconsistencies. I ended up with completely burnt cheese rolls last time, and had to drive all the back to get them replaced. They didn't seem very apologetic (and actually seemed a bit annoyed). Came here half drunk so at this point any food would have been heaven, however I wasn't too impressed with the pizza! If there's anything I crave in life, it's pizza... but I took 3 bites out of the pepperoni bacon slice and called it a night. Not sure if the pizza was sitting out for a while before ordering it, but the dough wasn't soft, and the toppings definitely weren't hot. The cheese was a bit hardened, and not the melt-in-your-mouth cheese you tend to expect from a fresh slice of pie. I heard that there was gluten free pizza available at this Victoria pizzeria, and I couldn't resist stopping in for lunch. Its a cool little place, with high back booths, and a large kitchen. What was amazing was the selection of gluten free treats available behind the counter as well. Brownies, cookies, cheesecake, pizza by the slice...Pretty impressive. My friend and I decided on a Hawaiian pizza on their rice crust. After waiting a short 10 minutes or so for our order, we dug in. We were both delighted with what we tasted. I Love The Joint! So I`m biased, as I used to work there. Although, the fact that I ate pizza there for a year, and still get cravings and find myself going back about once a week, says something huge about the food. I`ll hit you yelpers up with a few fun inside facts about The Joint others may have not mentioned. Family: The owner Jeff is amazing and has put his heart and soul into the place. Everytime I ask him how it`s goin`he replies "Livin the dream!", whilst pressing out doughs. I believe him. He's living his dream, and it comes through in the pizza. His staff is loyal, weird, wild, and the best of buds. They're also tight with the sister crew at Tattoo Zoo next door.
