It's Magical! This…read moresmall theater is located in Whiskey Row Lofts on the first floor. It is a small shotgun space that has great seating. Each row of seats is stadium style with a small shelf area to place your drinks or purse on. It allows everyone a perfect view of the nights performance. The stage is quite small for performers so you are likely to see one man acts or smaller plays that require more imagination then set. The only downside is that because this space is wedged between multiple restaurants and apartments you can here a lot of outside noise. The whole second act of the show I saw had muffed band music bleeding through from the bar next door. The ticket prices seem to be pretty reasonable and there is enough room for a bar. It is a great found space with a lot of history since many magicians have performed in the space.

I've been here a few times to see Theatre 502 productions. It's a small theatre on Whiskey Row. I normally get there earlier to sit in the front row, but I honestly don't think there's a bad seat in the house. It's a great space and Theatre 502 always finds new and creative ways to use the space. I've only been here for Theatre 502 shows, but I can't imagine that other acts don't use the space. You should definitely see something here if given the chance. My only complaint? A local pizza place is downstairs. On the weekends, you can hear live music coming from downstairs. Be aware of that before going here. I can usually tune it out, but there have been a few times where it was a nuisance. To offer incentive, I'm always told that the pizza place offers drink discounts to the theatre patrons. I've never took them up on the offer but it is a nice addition(if needed).

Stage One has recently tucked Walden Theatre under their brand umbrella, another long standing group of 50 years. It's making their season schedule robust for families. You can purchase tickets by selected shows or as a subscription. As a non-profit, you can also support them by donation and help expose children to stories and theater. If you have young children in your life, I encourage you to treat them to this experience.

My personal opinion, I think sections A&B as well as E&F offer some of the better viewing options. Seating is first come, first serve so if you'd like a closer seat get there a smidge early. There are refreshments you can buy prior to the show and take them with you inside the theater. Overall, the play was great, staff helpful, and the experience just amazing. Parking is up to you as far as where you decide. If you park in the garage below the theater it's about $10. There is also street parking with meters. I opted to park about a 1/2block away and paid $5. I definitely will be on the lookout for future plays to come see and make a trip back!

The Thrust Theater is wedged into the school's voluminous sports complex, not an amazing facility, with a lobby that feels like a college building more than a performance hall, but the theater itself is a good one. First off, this review really needs to be broken down into two parts: the physical theater space and the play itself. It is impossible to judge both as one and the same. That being said, the "place": First off, I've been in this city for a year and I never knew that University of Louisville had a Department of Theater Arts! Let alone that this theater existed! Needless to say, I was looking forward to a few things - checking out yet another new place in Louisville and trying my hand at a small theater venue here. The theater stage didn't disappoint. It had 3 of 4 walls used for seating and is small and quaint. It seats probably about 200. (I tried to find the actual number on the website, but to no avail!) It is easy to hear everything well and makes for an incredibly intimate setting. The actors in the play I saw actually interacted directly with the audience (which ended up being both awkward and funny at the same time.) I happen to love small venues for theaters, so this place fit the bill perfectly for me. That being said, onto the "play": As a disclaimer, I'm not an artist, don't claim to be, and sometimes artsy things go over my head. Apparently dark comedies fall into that category. We saw "Flu Season" - and it was, as it so perfectly proclaimed to be, a dark comedy. It started out a little slow, and somewhat confusing (it was very vague, poetic, artsy, etc.), but led to more entertaining scenes. Now the venue lends well to small crowds, but can also be a detriment at times. If something is funny, the laughter in the place ends up being contagious. But when something isn't funny, yet a few audience members laugh, it tends to feel awkward or uncomfortable. This happened a few times, and it was both awkward and uncomfortable. I don't want to give away anything to the play, but I left unsatisfied. And somewhat sad. Why the "three stars"? Because I'd go back. Not to see "Flu Season" again, but I'll be keeping an eye out for upcoming plays. I liked the venue, and really enjoy supporting local artists. I'm just hoping for a play that I'd appreciate more - probably just a regular ol' comedy will fit the bill. The play bill.

I recently was a part of a show in this theater and my boyfriend has been working on a show here. It is a nice facility to be able to use, especially for rehearsing. The only downside is that there is not much parking around the area that is usually available, so opting for the $10-$12 parking garage is sometimes the only option.
