My friends and I ate here on 10/9/2010 for the lunch buffet. We all got sick, some of the food didn't taste right, and we did not eat it. However, once we all left, we all started to feel sick. We did notice that some of the chicken curry was "pink" so I would advise if you do eat meat here, make sure that it's properly cooked before you indulge. It's not worth the pain! Trust me! Service was average, nothing special. Seating was very cramped, we were a party of 5 pretty much squeezed into a small corner meant for 2 people. One of the best Indian restaraunts I have been to, and considering Indian food is my favorite cuisine, I have been to many. The service was excellent, food superb. While we were waiting for our food to be prepared, they brought out samples of their samosas (on the house). My husband and I ordered one lentil soup and one entree of tandoori chicken. We weren't starving, so figured sharing would be the best. They preceded to bring us out 2 soups (but only charged us for one) and the chicken came out steaming and was very tender and delicious. I don't know if they gave us extra food than normal, but I dont know how 1 person could eat it all! The prices were very reasonable and we ended the night with their masala chai, which was also excellent. Not too heavily spiced or sweet with just the right amount of milk. Really great place to go if you're itching for indian food in the neighborhood. Every time I've ordered out from here, I'll walk in and the woman/man at the cash register will give me something small (like a cup of their mushroom soup) while I wait the 30 seconds for them to go into the back and retrieve my order. The food tastes great and the place has a cool vibe; albeit a little cramped. Definitely try the lunch buffet they have throughout the week. Stay away!!!! I ordered delivery tonight for myself and my family that was visiting from out of town. We had all arrived back to my place a little late so I offered to order food. While the food was delivered early which was great, one of the items was missing. This ended up being a big deal because one of my family members does not eat meat and was depending on that fish for dinner. I called the delivery service and the delivery driver called me back to only argue with me and say that it "must be there". I said it was not and we ended up arguing as he would not even come back to see the evidence that the fish was missing. This ended up being a nightmare on what was already a very stressful night, what is so wrong with this restaurant that they cannot even provide the service they are paid for? In the end I had about $20 dollars worth of food stolen from me but the real issue was an upset family. Stay away from this place and these people, they have no respect for their customers. read more

The food at Kabab Factory is consistently fantastic - way way better then most other Indian restaurants. We are in love with the gobi charchari (cauliflower and peas in this amazing sauce) and the Chicken Dhaniwal Korma (chicken korma with fire roasted coriander). They're both so unique and so outstanding. I highly recommend them! Furthermore, the ambiance of the place is great, they've always been accommodating with our child, and service is always great. I suspect the only reason it's not more we'll known and loved is because the name (factory sounds like fast food to me) turns people off. But don't let that stop you. Definitely give it a try. "[The Moguls]...left behind a trail of destruction and, well, the kebab." Thus spake the menu of the Kebab Factory (KF), an eatery about halfway between Harvard and Union Squares. And indeed, it looked as if the Moguls had made a scorched-earth foray through the establishment in the not-too-distant past, as the popular lunch buffet was in a total state of disarray. In spite of this mild chaos, we were seated by kind waitstaff at a table that was a miracle of botany, sporting lentils, beans, cinnamon, bay leaves, and other spices, all embedded in a layer of table-top resin...most impressive! While awaiting our food, we mused at the industrial-grade heater immediately beneath our table, presumably for use during the impending apocalyptic winter. We began with the "Factory's combo meat platter" ($12), which we felt was fitting. However, while the platter came with an acceptable samosa and a blob of pleasantly spiced lamb product, the chicken was mediocre, the lamb chunks were dry, and there was...a McDonald's-esque chicken nugget‽ The nugget was good...but...really? Needless to say, after the subpar platter experience we avoided ordering any actual kebabs. Luckily, the non-kebab items were generally quite good, arriving in vast quantities on classy flatware. The bhindi (okra, $13) was good, and thankfully not slimy. The Goan fish curry ($18.5) contained excellent fish, and had a very nice sauce (both good things considering the steep price!). The Peshawari naan ($4.5) was undercooked, but was pleasantly buttery, and had no detectable pie filling. Sadly, the Rumali roti ($4.5) was cold and a little too chewy. The aloo gobi ($13.5) had good cookitude and was a tad spicy (but not spicy enough considering that the receipt claimed to charge us $0.00 for a dish that was "On Fire"!). Although it did have a vaguely weird taste--perhaps some sort of modified ketchup related to the aforementioned McDonald's chicken? From the beverage department, the sweet lassi had an excellent tang, the masala chai was very good (and came in a highly pressurized container!). Finally, to top it all off was the mango lassi, sporting the fanciest of glasses, whipped cream, mango sauce, and slice of fresh mango--it was outstanding! Possibly the best lassi we've ever had. Overall, the experience was deserving of a solid three samosas, but at a steep three-rupee rate, yielding an unimpressive samosa-to-rupee ratio of 1.0. Especially after experiencing the absolutely exquisite lassi we began to wonder how some of the other dishes--in particular the kebabs!--could be so mediocre. Then all at once it became clear: shining down upon us from above were a vast array of homochiral lights with left-handed helicity, unlike proper DNA! Clearly KF sources their meat from a parallel universe with left-handed DNA, which would explain oddities as the McDonald's chicken nuggets, which we presume would otherwise have been the most succulent of lamb nuggets. Some remedial biochemistry instruction would do wonders not only for their décor, but for their twisted meat offerings. read more

I've been going to this place off and on for about 8 years. In the past two years its been just super. I think they make the best Indian food in the Cambridge/Somerville area. Its too crowded (usually) and tightly spaced to enjoy eating there, so I get take out. When I'm waiting for my order they bring me a delicious soup and they should have a side-line spot somewhere and just soup. They're so good. The first few times I came here I was a little confused by its popularity. While the curries I was eating were good, I wasn't entirely blown away. Then I discovered the kebabs, and have been hooked ever since. I guess it's called the Kebab Factory for a reason. Succulent meats, well-spiced and presented to you in a metal chamber with a little flame underneath. I'm particularly a fan of the Kali Mirch Ke Tikki (chicken kebab dipped in cream cheese before grilling) and the Lamb Boti Kebab. Other posters are correct to point out that the space is tiny and that service is not always entirely warm or attentive (though it varies). For me the food is enough to outweigh these factors. Finally, the lunch buffet is a steal. While dinner can be pricey compared to some Indian places, the daily lunch buffet is 8 bucks (I think) and offers a wider variety than any other I've seen, including kebabs and about 4 or 5 curry options. For the best experience get there a little before or after the peak lunch rush, since the space constraints mentioned above are particularly apparent around 12:30. read more

My favorite Indian food place in Boston (or metro area I guess technically.) Have gone for the buffet many times now, great deal. Most dishes are perfect, enough variety if you aren't into some. Much less grease than most places. Highly recommend the Kali Mirch Ke Tikkey (chicken kebab pieces). Shrimp curry and mixed veg also very nice. They bring fresh naan and dosas to the table (sometimes a bit slow, just ask and they come quick). It has very limited seating so I try to go during less peak hours. read more

This is my favorite Indian place in Cambridge. Now, I've never been to India, so I can't speak to its authenticity. Nor have I eaten at every Indian restaurant outside of India. Hell, I probably haven't eaten at every Indian place in Cambridge, though I have been to quite a few. So, with my qualifications clearly in suspicion, let me continue my recommendation. Lunch buffet was very tasty and hot. Service was attentive. The chicken cubes in the tikka masala were dry (I find that's often the case at buffets) and the naan was kind of soggy from being stacked in a rice-cooker looking container (hard to keep fresh all day, so I'm not that upset about it). The chicken with the onions and peppers was very moist though, as was the chili chicken. Great variety of options. Side-note: their website is out of date. Quite possible the BEST Indian buffet within a 20 mile radius of my 02116 zip code; and that says a lot given the multitudinous number of buffet selections in the area. My quest for the BEST may have ended with this experience at Kebab Factory. At $8.35; their lunch buffet is the personification of scrumptious, bountiful and delicious (the holy triplets when grading buffets). There was chicken tikka masala, goat curry, the most amazingly moist and juicy tandoori chicken, 3 very tasty (albeit thirsty) veggie curries all with discernible pieces of chunky veggies within, mini veggie samosas, and basmati rice. Everything was ultra fresh and "right-off-the stove" sizzling hot; so hot that I burned my fingers thru the thick plate. An impressive array of condiments included mint and onion chutneys, a savoury cheese kebab in yogurt, and a crispy salad that would make a gardener proud. Naan is served piping hot to your table, and they even have Indian chai tea in the meal. What more could you ask for? KF really puts the rest to shame. I will definitely become a "weekly" patron. Fake indian food. It's for those who like to say they had indian food without moving too far from their comfort zone. Bland plain boring with not the slightest attempt at authenticity. Extremely disappointed especially since we were a large group that ordered at least seven things on the menu, ranging for Kababs to curries to biriyani to breads. Third, I ordered a paratha and it I saw the cook take one of those frozen ones you can buy at the Indian grocery, and he cooked that so it's not authentic. I poked my husband a million times and asked him why he has never taken me here. He got annoyed, and so off we went! We went for the buffet on a weekend. Now, this place will go down in history--as the first place that I've managed to not get sick (from overeating) when faced with mountains of Indian food. Yay! I'm an adult! I ate a little bit of almost everything, because I have very little self control when it comes to Indian food. Everything was super delicious. Every meat dish was fall-off-the-bone tender. The vegetables were perfect. I was completely and totally confused by some of the stuff at the beginning of the buffet, but I was too busy eating everything else to worry too much about it. But even though Indian food is the best thing ever, the real reason this place gets 5 stars is that the service was amaaaaaaaaaaazing (with at least that many a's). I don't even understand how they timed everything so perfectly. Our naan plate was never empty, they kept bringing us delicious fresh dosa, and our water was constantly refilled. And when it was time to leave--the check magically appeared within 5 seconds of us wanting one. So should you come here? Yes. Is it authentic? Idunno. Like, I seriously suck at judging Indian food because it's all delicious. But the staff, ambiance, and everything makes this place worth a try! read more

Suprisingly great Indian Food. The chefs there are definitely well trained. Once we were served complimentary Cream of Cauliflower Soup, which rivaled some of the best soups in award winning/high end restaurants. Their food is full of flavor and well balanced and cooked well. Some of the meats get a little dried out in their curries, maybe it's premade and reheated? Their breads are great. Definitely a place worth trying even with all the Indian options around town. We held off trying it for a while due to the outside appearance, but the interior is quite nice. They did what they could with the space layout. They also serve some fine beers. Their Ras Malai was not bad, I prefer it with a hint of floral water and a little sweeter. Please beware of placing an order with Kebab Factory thru any delivery service like ubereats etc. Very poor experience with them, I ordered 4 items via ubereats, they packed 3 items and forgot one item, when I called them, first they said they would ask ubereats to give me a credit, the next day when I called to follow up on status I was told very rudely that this was not their problem and I should call uber eats to complaint, and the delivery person was at fault. The delivery person was clearly not at fault as the package was unopened, and them not taking any action or to seem so uncaring about the issue showed very poor customer service, leave alone the fact that they hung up on me. For the quality of the kebabs I would certainly ask customers to go find a better place who values customers and have the decency to work out the issue with them. Very bad experience and extremely bad customer service. Not that great of kebabs. read more

Got this delivered when I was in Cambridge and it was excellent! The delivery was very quick and the food stayed warm on the way there. The Chicken Tikka Masala was amazing and had tons of flavor and the naan was also great. Even the white rice was strangely addicting haha! The only thing that wasn't amazing was the Mango Lassi, which tasted more like buttermilk and not enough mango flavor. Definitely will be my go-to Indian place in Cambridge. read more

You know, I wish I could give this place five stars, because the food is really, really good. But I am consistently frustrated with the low lighting, crowded tables, and only average service. I went here with my parents, who are in their late 50s; we had a 9:00 dinner and they had to have ME read the menus aloud to them because it was too dark in there for them to see. Yikes. On the other hand, though, it IS the first good Indian place I've found in the Boston area. Granted, I haven't tried a lot, but the food here is SPECTACULAR. I'm a vegetarian, and I love the variety they offer for me. My mom was thrilled with the selection of kebab, which is rare at most average Indian restaurants. The sauces were rich and dancing with flavor - even the usual trio of taramind, onion chutney, and mint sauce were better than in almost any other place. The naan was perfect, full of that nice tandoori flavor and thick and airy. The mango lassi had the wonderful yogurty tartness I demand (so many places it just tastes like a smoothie) Yes indeed, I was pleased with the food. My only complaint is that the gulab jamun was a huge disappointment - thick and grainy and not at all delicate. (I am a gulab jamun fanatic, so after such a tasty dinner the first time I went here, I was bummed.) Still, I think it speaks volumes for the quality of the food that of the 22 people who were dining there the second time I went, me with my parents and a couple next to me were the only non-Indian people in the place. This is a cute, cozy place that definitely has more appeal in the evening than during the day, when it's mostly dead. They've got really interesting decorations and definitely make the presentation of the meal a priority, which adds to the experience. They've got a great chicken vindaloo and mango lassi! read more
