Dropped by Murrieta's for happy hour and was surprised to see a near-empty restaurant. Summer tourism has just begun, but I'd highly recommend Murrieta's for a happy hour stop at the least. They have a lot of great $10 deals and a $15 deal on pizzas. We got the lamb meatballs, brussel sprouts, and prosciutto pizza. It took ~15 minutes for all the food to come out. The lamb meatballs were tender and juicy and came with a slightly spicy tomato sauce. The pizza had a fair amount of mushrooms and prosciutto, and I liked the added kick from the pepperoncini. My favorite dish was the brussel sprouts, which had a sweet and crunchy exterior and toasted almonds. read more

Came for their happy hour on a weekday, 2-5pm Sunday through Thursday. On their menu during happy hour that we got - $8 corn chowder, $9 brussel sprouts, $10 lamb meatballs, $15 pizza, $5 fries, $6 beers, $8 cocktails. The brussel sprouts were my favorite!! So yummy. The fries were great too. We got the Hawaiian pizza which came with a bunch of pepperoncinis on top. I'd ask for those on the side so you can moderate the heat level yourself. We then also got the 14 oz ribeye with steamed veggies for $69. Their steak is aged at minimum 31 days. However, there was nothing special about the rib eye. It was missing char on the outside, and the inside was cooked more rare, when we had asked for medium rare. I'd skip the rib eye next time if we came back. My NY strip was almost ice cold (so were the veggie) so it was obvious it sat in the window. It was a tasty steak but no juiciness and as it was cold not much fun to eat. We visited Murrieta's twice on our visit to Canmore. The Scallop Fettuccine and Cedar Plank Salmon were a 10/10. My kids loved their meals and we had to place two orders of their fresh baked bread. Some of the salmon entrees were very try small and the size of the salmon seemed to vary, but all the food was very tasty. The desserts were just ok, I wouldn't get dessert there again. Stopped in for dinner on a weeknight, and were told they were completely booked, but that we could grab a seat at the bar. We bellied up in the corner, which worked well for the 5 of us. The bartenders were very busy, but super friendly and we weren't in a big hurry, so it worked well for us. I got a martini - well made, and others got a selection from their good wine list. For dinner, I got the spaghetti with lamb meatballs - FANTASTIC!. Others got the hamburgers and said they were good, and the soup of the day, which was also good. This is a classy place with great food and great service fully capable of serving our party of 14 family members! Most of us got some kind of steak or fish and everyone was completely satisfied with their entree. The server forgot one order and the chef came out and let us know that they are aware of the miscount and brought out the dish immediately in just a few minutes and did not charge us for it. The second floor dining hall is surrounded by large windows allowing natural light to come in and allow customers to experience a beautiful view of the outdoors. 3 of us ventured in with no reservation...was greeted by a male maitre'd who seated us immediately. Decor is relaxed and we were sat near the front windows near the fireplace. It took a while for our waitress to get to us (to the point where we actually considered leaving), but once she acknowledged us, she was great. Our food was spectacular. All 3 of us ordered Alberta Beef....it was cooked perfectly and was very flavourful. I didn't find the prices exhoberant considering the quality and quality of the food. Dropped in for an Americano and Apple crisp. I was greeted and seated right away and able to order shortly after being seated. The decor and service is as I remembered it. Background music a little to raunchy for my tastes but I suppose it encourages conversation. Decor and ambience still great and as always clean and wonderful presentation. All in all one of my favorites in Canmore. Menu has a Goff variety and although not wide meets most peoples food choices. Would come back here anytime. The Americano is outstanding. Bison ribs were fantastic, beet salad was the best we'd had in a long time, bread was fresh and the sea salt finish was nice. Service was fast and very friendly. Sad to report Murrieta's was a disappointment. Went there with my family for my 27th anniversary. My son, daughter and wife ordered the tenderloin-- two medium-rares and one rare. The rare turned out medium rare, one of the medium rares was medium. The seafood risotto, Considering it was supposed to be cooked with saffron, was remarkably pale and sadly underseasoned. It just lacked the glossy richness one expects from a risotto. One of those rare occasions I had to request for table salt. At least the seafood was cooked perfectly. The only good dishes were the French-curry mussels and the side of wild mushrooms that came with the steak. It's too bad 'cause the location and ambience was good. I feel they should add at least one cut of steak that has some fat like a prime rib, T-bone or rib steak. All three available options were super lean. read more

This review is based on a private event my husband and I hosted at Murrieta's. From the moment I first spoke with Sophie, assistant general manager at Murrieta's, I was super excited to host the main meal here for our post-elopement celebration weekend! She let me know about the Miner's Room - a private event space that more than accommodated our group of 29 and has spectacular views of the Canadian Rockies. Even though my expectations were high - the entire experience knocked those expectations out of the park. I cannot fully put into words how much the service team of Sophie and Julian made this special moment in our lives the best it could be. Everyone in our group could not stop talking about how kind, helpful, and skilled Sophie and Julian are at tending to the various requests of so many people. The food was delicious and a good value for such high quality. The cocktails and wine were fabulous (and we tried quite a few of them!) - one of the cocktails even contained ingredients from Sophie's own garden! We started the night as strangers, and left as friends. I would love to come back to Canmore to spend more time in the beautiful town, and of course, visit Murrieta's :) Thank you again, Julian and Sophie! You're the best. We were here last night for a birthday dinner after a day of hiking outside of Canmore. Fantastic dinner. The restaurant has a classy, rustic feel - dark wood and high vaulted ceilings with wooden beams, huge windows with mountain views from every angle. Perfect for visitors to the mountains. The food was great, many locally sourced ingredients, and a handful of sustainable seafood options. I had the special - a cornish game hen done with sweet potato "risotto" and fresh chanterelle mushrooms, in from British Columbia that day. The dish was exquisite, with a rich cream sauce and meat that was finished in the wood fired oven. Also tried a bit of the roasted sablefish, with pineapple and sweet relish, also excellent. Our server, Francesca, was fantastic - quick service and she was incredibly friendly, funny and attentive, and took a few minutes to chat here and there (which I know is difficult on a busy night!)
