Staying a night in Moncton and asked the hotel staff for recommendations for dinner. They recommended The Keg. We looked at the menu and it did seem a little pricey but the food was great! I had the oven roasted chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts with bacon. I didn't care too much for the skin on the chicken (it was mushy) but the chicken was moist and very tasty. My husband had the top sirloin and twice baked potato. The steak was just a steak but the twice baked potato was so good that I ate most of it for him! YUM!! My husband also had the wedge salad with ranch dressing. This ranch dressing was AMAZING!! I'm not sure if they make it themselves but OMG I wanted to bathe in it. Best ranch dressing I've ever had! The ambiance was nice as well. It was dark and cozy. The music was extremely loud but I can look past that. It was late and every other place I tried had closed their main kitchen. I was looking for a quick calamari snack and ended up back here. I forgot that they deep fry other things to fill out the order, red peppers I think. I did appreciate that they put the sauce in the side. It was crispy, but I've had better. I don't know why I keep ending up back there as it's not a favourite of mine. I think it's the hours and the location is convenient, being attached to the hotel where I typically stay when I'm in Moncton, but that's it. For me, it's not horrible, but it's not wonderful either. Parked out back , Marriott and The Keg are in same building. Dark spot walking in! Ambiance! Greeted nicely, asked to sit and wait for a brief moment. Sat in a booth , cozy and private. Good/classy atmosphere and great service. Started with a Heineken on tap , was flat ahhh but got a Belgian Moon and did the trick. We both got caesar salads with our main courses, and were served those first.. would be nice to have mild/medium/hot option for garlic meh.. then came warm/soft home-loaf mmm with butter.. then a few minutes later came the onion soup ($10) .. delicious- bold flavours with sherry and beef broth. Ordered top sirloin - medium steak ($38) and New York Strip-loin- medium rare ($44) . Both were tender and juicy, and came with mushrooms, green beans , and garlic mashed.. Paired with Jackson-Triggs Proprietors Selection ($7.5- had with top sirloin) , and Three Thieves cab sauv ($10- with New York Strip-loin) Server asked how we were doing every so often which was nice . I was pleasantly surprised by this place. From the outside you cannot tell that they place is packed with a wait to eat. Wow, I thought -- this is a popular place! Good sign. The wait was long so dinner in the bar was a good choice. Service was excellent. The prime rib, although it came out medium instead of the requested medium rare, was very tasty as was the baked potato with fresh chives and sour cream. Was disappointed in the side of button mushrooms, which were way too oily. Bread was blah and not worth eating and the butter was the fake topping I stay away from. That said I really didn't need to eat any bread and butter. The Sangria drink was tasty, however, it was missing the fruit that is advertised on the menu. Trendy place for a special occasion. Dim lights, fireplaces, and seating reminiscent of upscale places in NYC. Prices are on point with other high end restaurants that offer nice cuts of steak, seafood, etc. You get what you pay for. We started with fresh ciabatta bread and fried calamari. I prefer more breaded calamari but the ginger sauce was tasty. Also served with feta sauce- which I've never seen served with calamari ever. Fiancé and I both had the 2lb whole lobster with choice of a side and a side of veg (beans and roasted red peppers). Lobster was cleaned and pre cracked which was helpful. My husband and I went to the Keg and were pleasantly surprised to find some plant based options on the menu. We had a gift card given to us but we don't eat meat anymore. We were about to make an exception since it was a gift and looking at the menu, we saw there was a few entrees that we could have without meat and also, their warm Mediterranean cauliflower meal was exquisite with such a nice dipping sauce. Their wine selection is great. On top of that, because it was our wedding anniversary, they gave us a piece of cake to share. Well first time I have been to this brand of restaurant and it was a good experience. It is a little dark inside but no darker then some I have been to. This Keg restaurant is located next to the Marriott Inn Residence and you can gain access to it directly from the hotel, however you cannot charge your dinner back to your room, which would be a good thing, so perhaps they will consider this for the future. Anyway once my eyes had adjusted to the light and I had found my way to the front of the restaurant the staff told me I could sit in the main restaurant or the bar area so I choose the bar area as it was less crowded and there were many seats available with menus on them. However these tables were reserved for wedding parties I was told once I had sat myself down!! Any how once I had selected a none reserved set I ordered my meal from my server and I went for the chicken Creole dish. The portion size was good and enabled me to have a little desert. By the time I had moved onto desert the wedding parties had arrived and the volume had increased ten fold so I was glad to be almost finished with my meal. I did look at other reviews and most people mentioned the price, true it seems a little bit pricey for what you get but in comparison to some of the steak restaurants in England the price was reasonable. We arrived just before the supper rush without a reservation in an effort to have a nice supper with our son who was home from college. Even though there were five of us they found us a table right away. Our server, Heather, was extremely friendly and helpful. I decided to try the "Baseball Sirloin" and it was excellent. The twice baked potato with bacon was perfect and were the shrimp skewers. My wide and daughter had ribs and everyone was very pleased with their meals. They brought us extra fresh bread and onions and mushrooms with out steak that was fantastic. There was nothing disappointing about our night out. The Keg has been my go-to spot in Moncton since it was built a few years ago really just because I don't know where else to go and its convenient. Since the past three visits have been less than satisfying yet very expensive I have decided not to go back. Recently we brought in a table of 12 people (all in the food and wine business) to dine between wine show. Our server was pushy and the forced sales pitches were reiterated several times before ordering - then forced upon us again while ordering. As each person ordered they were asked if they would like to add shrimp skewers, salsa topping or extra sides. If we had wanted the extras we would let you know - he had told us about them 3 times at this point. Everyone had either a soup or salad to start which was the best part of the meal even though the Caesars had too much dressing and the Dijon Vinagrette on the garden salads was extremely salty. Now the one thing the Keg is supposed to get right is steak - NOT ONE OF OUR STEAKS WAS COOKED PROPERLY! Mine, ordered medium rare appeared blue rare and cold throughout. Another ordered rare was medium-well. Our guest visiting from Italy asked if medium was meant to mean well-done in Canada, sorry it is not! One member of our group sent his steak back to the kitchen 3 times hoping it would eventually come out medium-rare and not the medium-well he had been receiving. Each time the manager would come back and say, "I want to personally make sure this is to your liking, please cut in." Even he had to admit each time that the steak was not cooked properly! The rest of us suffered through our meals as we had to be back to the wine show for the evening. The veggies were overcooked and smothered in butter - there is nothing worse than mushy overcooked asparagus! The twice baked potato was so burnt and over cooked we had to did out the few remaining bits of mashed potato just to get some food in our bellies! The worst part came later when a few of our group decided to stay back for a cocktail before heading to the show. They moved into the more informal lounge/bar area to a communal table. The group sharing the table with them seemed like 2 respectable mature couples. It only took a few minutes to realize they were drunk beyond all repair - especially when one lady threw up on the floor!! The Keg staff paid no attention and the group tried to clean it up with a napkin. A few minutes later she threw up AGAIN and managed to get some on my friend. Ah The Keg. So many people complain about this chain being overpriced. It's true to some extent but really, where else can you have a consistently excellent steak. Not just good, excellent. The Moncton location is very nice, actually reminding me of the St. John's, Nfld one. Dim lighting, suave music, friendly wait staff... cool ambiance. That dim lighting is not so good however for a solo dinner with a newspaper, such as me tonight. I managed to find a spot by a window that had light filtering in. They had just received some Samuel Adams on tap, new to The Keg, so I started with one of those tried and true ales. Their new "seasonal" menu features dungeness crab. Having never tried it (not that I remember anyway), I made sure I chose from that menu. I did however start with one of my favorites, the escargots, which are served stuffed in mushrooms which are swimming in garlic butter and then gratinéed. Excellent! My main was a crab and shrimp sirloin. A top sirloin with 3 black tiger shrimp, topped with some dungeness crab and then slathered in béarnaise sauce. The shrimp were fantastic and the crab sweet and melt-in-your-mouth. The steak however was not great in my eyes. My favorite steak is a striploin and the sirloin just didn't cut it for tenderness. The béarnaise was too thick and basically flavourless. The accompanying asparagus were perfect, still crispy. I've eaten at the Keg so many times that I will excuse them a slight misstep... We ate here with a Celiac and a Low FODMAP. They did an amazing job of making sure there was no cross contamination. The manager even checked in with us on our allergies. Our best meal in Canada, so far!! We had the mixed lettuce salad with veggies, the NY Strip Steak, Baked Potato, and asparagus with red peppers. Excellent! We thought the price would give us really bomb food but we all regretted going and they didn't even pay and agreed with me so I wasn't butt hurt about the price, I understand that places like this are pricey but I don't understand how this place is so much for the food we got. read more

Amazing service! There was a small mishap with our meals and they went above and beyond to make it up to us. Our server was wonderful and the restaurant manager also came over to chat with us! This is my second time in Moncton and my second time here at the Keg. Great restaurant and great food. I ordered the Sirloin and a Lobster tail. I am glad I did. It was delicious! Only thing I would say is that if you are staying at the Residence Inn... it is not affiliated with The Keg. I thought it was because it's connected to the hotel. Well it's not :) so, you can't charge the bill to your room. Not their fault... mine for assuming. So, I had to go back to my room to get my credit card. Duh. I know. I don't order steak from restaurants because 95% of the time I can make a better steak at home for cheaper, so that's not what I ordered here. I was staying at the attached Residence Inn and decided to get some room service (for which they had no charge which was a huge plus). I got the Thai Chicken, which was really a pretty solid entree. The mashed potatoes were standard fare, but the bread that came with it was really great. The service was great, the credit card machine failed to work when the (really cute) staff member brought it to my room, but she hustled back and took care of everything really quickly. I was staying next door at the Residence Inn by Marriott. The recommended it and there's even a door from the hotel into the restaurant. I had I drink and the prime rib. I thought all were fairly priced the flavour was good. But the exceptional part of the meal was a service. Melanie, with a beautiful nails, bubbly personality, and devotion to her customers, made the experience special. I hope management realizes what an asset she is. After a long stint of regular trips up to Moncton, The Keg quickly became a great spot to unwind after a long day at work. Oddly enough, though, this location far outshines any other I've been to including the one in my hometown of Halifax. The interior is hipper, the staff are friendlier, and the menu is even different. As a vegetarian, I was SO pleased to see a section of gourmet salads on the menu, each topped with goat's or blue cheese. If that wasn't catching my attention, they made a great tempura vegetables appetizer that hit the spot. All round, this is a restaurant I didn't think I would like that actually managed to win me over! read more

The food was ok but by no means 5 star. Service was excellent. He even asked what I had plans for the rest of my evening and made recommendations. I ordered a baseball steak with Caesar salad garlic mash potatoes and vegetables. The Caesar salad was very bland thank good it came with a lemon wedge. The steak was cooked correctly however the quality of the meat did not reflect the price. The steak was poorly spiced. The garlic mash was a touch salty however I did eat the whole thing.
