I can't say I've ever written a hotel or b&b review before, only restaurants. But this must be the exception. The Kemble Inn has been one of the most enjoyable overnight stays I've ever had the pleasure of attending. The rooms are gorgeous, the hotel smart and elegant but most important the staff was beyond helpful & friendly. The bathtub is to die for and the amenities are outstanding. I think one can see I really enjoyed my stay. It's worth every penny. Also, the restaurant in the them building is exemplary. Seriously, if you want a fabulous night away from the town (I'm from the Boston area) take the time to come out and enjoy. Also of note, the close distance to walk into town is perfect for an afternoon of great shopping and dining! Thanks Kemble! I will return again! read more

Came to this Inn for a celebration dinner of my father's 70th birthday, but did not stay over night here...but would definitely like to! It's a beautiful building in a great location with a wonderful view -- we were there rjust in time for a perfect autumn sunset. For our party of 10, we had a prix fixe menu with three choices for each course, and everything was wonderful for the first two courses. (The escargot could have been better, but was still nice.) The ingredients were wonderfully fresh, the meat cooked just so, the vegetables tender and flavorful. I think everyone felt the deserts could have been better -- the children didn't even finish theirs! But by then we were pretty darn full. A lovely place to celebrate a special occasion with the people you love -- and who love you -- the most. read more

Wonderful location and a beautiful inn. We stayed in room 205 and it was gorgeous, completely updated with an all marble rain head shower. Expensive but no more than the other nicer inn's around town. However, I would not stay here again... here's why: 1. I really wanted a working fireplace. The one in our room wasn't "prepared yet" aka cleaned for a fire even though we stayed 10/13 when the evenings are starting to get cooler. Not a huge deal. 2. There were exterior painters on site Friday and Saturday. In the height of the fall "leaf peeping" season why on earth was this being done? I was there to relax and enjoy beautiful scenery, not keep my window shades closed because of painters. Considering the price we paid I found the painters to really turn me off. 3. This is the biggest issue. We felt we were mislead into believing we had breakfast included in our room price. Upon check in we were told we had breakfast included as well as in the automated email from the hotel (which included a PDF that DID say we did not have breakfast included however I never opened the PDF). The breakfast was okay and very slow and certainly not worth the $36 dollars we spent on it. I just paid the bill because we needed to head home and that evening I was still upset over how we were treated and the confusion. Does $36 dollars mean that much to the hotel, shouldn't customer service be more important? Here is the word for word email the hotel sent me when I emailed them by forwarding the automated email and explaining the confusion and asking for a refund of my $36 bill: "I apologize for feeling mislead, however there is only one rate out of all of our offerings/packages that does not include breakfast which was what you selected. Breakfast is available however just as would have paid the additional $40 for the room (our standard rate) it was an additional $36 to purchase breakfast separately. In all honesty, you made out better! So I am happy to adjust your folio to be charged the standard rate, however you will then be paying more. I also added a picture of the booking page that states the difference in standard rate with breakfast and the other that states "no breakfast." The hotel clearly missed that their guests felt mislead and I felt the tone of the email was condescending. Too bad, such a nice hotel left us feeling so sour! read more

What a ridiculous policy this place has. I tell you, if you don't want to welcome two love birds on their anniversary trying to redeem a Groupon, then that's on you. I am a bit disappointed this place would not work with my boyfriend when he tried to plan a special one-night stay. The Groupon we bought didn't say we had to stay more than one night, but Kemble Inn won't let you stay just one night. Catch 22... What are we to do? Their solution to us was to come on a Friday night and stay the weekend. Not very budget-friendly, folks. Groupon is great. We got our money back. But I can't -- after all our dealings trying to get a room booked, only to have it cancelled due to a policy they didn't tell us about at the start -- recommend this place to anyone. read more

I WOULD GIVE IT A 0 IF I COULD I have literally never posted a review of an establishment in my life, but there's a first time for everything. My husband and I booked a weekend getaway for our anniversary at the Kemble Inn. Unexpectedly, the family member set to watch our children while away was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo emergency surgery, and was therefore unable to watch our children. We were within the incredibly ungenerous, non-standard 2 week cancellation window when this happened. I called 10 days prior to check-in to see if we could secure an exception and cancel, which I assumed would be granted given the extreme circumstances. I was wrong. The proprietor of the inn didn't reach out whatsoever until I had called twice and emailed once. When he did, a curt email citing the generous policy and associated inability to grant an exception was sent back. Two sentences, no signature, and a "Thx" at the end. WHAT?!?! Only after responding that I expected a call did he even venture to pick up the phone - only to reassure me that he was unwilling to make any exception whatsoever because we booked through a 3rd party. Now, I understand that policies exist and need to be policed, but I also know that it is at this man's discretion that he has decided to keep our reservation as-is. The room charges are over $700 a night. I feel stupid for assuming that even remotely professional customer service would accompany the price tag. I travel frequently and globally for work and can assure you I have never in my life received treatment as poor as this. STAY AWAY. Look at all of the 1 and 2 ratings. ALL OF THEM point to this guy, his poorly run shop, and lack of customer service mentality. In fact, in stead of responding with a resolution in mind, he disputes and belittles their claims on the platform. I look forward to the same sarcastic and heartless response he's offered all others. read more

My queries were answered in a condescending tone by the person at the other end of the conversation. Honestly, he was just mean. What a beautiful building! The inn is in an absolutely beautiful converted mansion. And the people who run it have decorated it with modern but conservative pieces. The manager who welcomed us when we arrived was very friendly and made sure we felt comfortable. The only strange part of the visit was our actual room. It was done in the "Ralph Lauren style." This meant Ralph Lauren furniture, bedding, towels -- and advertisements? There was a six foot tall Polo underwear advertisement leaning against the wall. Which, I mean, let's get real, ladies, I was okay with - but the boyfriend, maybe not so much. I really did appreciate the fact that the room was entirely outfitted in Ralph Lauren, though - it really tied it all together. We peeked into another couple rooms whose doors were open, and they all seemed to be decorated in a more traditional fashion - more flowery and stuff. The breakfast in the morning was DELICIOUS. Typical continental fare as well as a quiche, french toast, bacon, etc.! Wonderful. And such a beautiful view from the dining room - down a hill and to the mountains beyond! I would definitely recommend this B&B - a great getaway! read more

This was best place I've stood in such a long time. My partner and I did booked the lovers getaway package and stood in room 207 this weekend. The hotel was Immaculate, the front desk staff, which I believe was the owner, was so pleasant and so nice. He showed us around when we got there and showed us to the room and explained how everything worked. Their restaurant, Table Six, was great, a little pricey going to be honest but with the lovers package, you get $150 Credit for their restaurant, which was plenty enough, I think we had change left over. The packages also included massages which was great. We did the 60 min couples massage. Both therapist were extremely friendly and very helpful explaining everything. If I could get this place 20 starts, I totally would. Our weekend stay was great. We without a doubt will be coming back. read more

This place is AMAZING! Gorgeous, beautiful rooms, exceptional staff. I want to give this place 5 stars. I really do. But I can't. We stayed here for four nights in december and froze our BUTTS off! You can't control your room temperature and thus our room was either 60 degrees (most of the time) or 85 degrees (one night of four). Very uncomfortable and not how I wanted to spend the holiday. Everything else was really great! May go back - but only if it's a time of the year that doesn't need heat or AC (which I imagine has the same problems). read more

Most recently I reserved some rooms with friends for my partners birthday Party at the Kemble Inn. The rooms are thoughtfully decorated ( I checked out several while there) and modern with Waterworks fixtures and all white marble. My bathtub was ridiculously huge and super inviting. We had fun cocktails in the cozy bar and then took them to the main salon where a pianist tickled the ivory's for most of the night. Charming to say the least. Dinner was seriously delicious and the dining room is completely gorgeous. I can't wait to come back with even more people and enjoy the lovely hospitality of its owner and his Amazing staff. read more

The Kemble Inn may be the best restaurant in Lenox. As I understand, they just recently started service on the terrace of the beautifully restored Lenox mansion. It's a prix fixe menu ($53/person) and worth every penny. The dishes were exceptional, and could have been straight out of a magazine. I had perfectly-cooked scallops over a phenomenal risotto, followed by an excellent steak and mousse for dessert. Their drinks were well made and high-end, but not too pricey ($11 for a Manhattan). Service was perfectly attentive but in no way overbearing. The other diners were equally impressed, and the casually-elegant atmosphere inspired conversation and laughs among us. The view from the terrace is amazing, and became more so as the sun set over the Berkshires. This is a must-visit for any Lenox/Berkshire visit. read more

I was a guest at the Kemble in the "off" season, but was welcomed into the manor by the owner and some of his staff who upgraded me to comfortable room 202. I would recommend this Inn because it is located just off of the main stretch of downtown Lenox, and the rooms have nice attention to detail (heated floors in the bathroom). However, the owners are undergoing an extensive project to extend the patio, gardens and parking area S/S 2012. Personally, I will be excited to be a guest throughout the year to see the progress that is made because of the curated aesthetic that is already a part of this modern traditional Inn. read more

From its pristine and peaceful setting in the Berkshires, Kemble Inn is an intimate, local bed & breakfast that brings to life the beauty of its surroundings. Its rooms are clean and comfortable; its amenities are exquisite; its service is accommodating; and its adjoining restaurant is a pleasurable dining experience. The inn is, in a word, delightful. The rooms are spacious, but not too big. They are well equipped with comfortable mattresses, high definition TVs, and clean bathrooms. The extras (towels, shampoo, etc) are high quality. The rest of the inn is charming, and the interior decorating is tasteful. One of Kemble's gems is its outdoor seating area, complete with a gorgeous view of the mountains (it's worth spending some downtime here with a drink). Kemble's restaurant is also worth mentioning; even though it's not as reputable as the hotel itself, the food is good and the service is friendly. As expected, though, this wonderful experience comes at a steep nightly rate, which is perhaps Kemble's only drawback. If you're taking a getaway trip to the lushly green and tranquil Berkshires, Kemble will give you a place to stay that matches. read more

My husband and I were supposed to stay at the Kemble Inn the night of our wedding. I had sent my dad earlier that day to check us in and drop of our bags. The manager checked us in but did not tell my dad anything about keys or accessing the inn, he just accepted our bags and said the room wasn't ready yet. We arrived to the Inn around 1:00 am after our wedding reception and found the front door locked and lights off. We knocked, tried to call the number listed on their website, but had no luck reaching anyone. After about 20 minutes we gave up and left to stay at my parents' condo rental. The next day my dad called to try and straighten everything out and the owner was incredibly rude and blamed the error on us, saying we should have asked what the late night policy was. He never acknowledged that it was incredibly disappointing to arrive on our wedding night and not be able to get in. I will say they refunded our deposit on the room, thank goodness. But the manager said we had made him lose the revenue for the room that night. A few days later my mom called to see if there was anything the inn could do to make up for the mistake. The manager refused, but eventually agreed to send us a gift certificate. This was in November 2016 and we still haven't received anything. It was somewhat reassuring to read the other negative reviews here and see that we aren't the only ones who have had issues with the communication. It doesn't matter how beautiful the inn is if you can't get in and have poor customer service! We will be staying elsewhere the next time we head to Lenox. read more

Just spend the weekend here celebrating my partner's 40th birthday. Can't say enough good things about the Kemble Inn.... the inn itself is beautiful... everywhere. Tastefully decorated, spacious... couldn't have been more perfect. Although it's an old building it's full of modern amenities such as a modern glass shower, wifi, air conditioning, really big flat screen TV, etc. The bed was ridiculously comfortable. It really was perfect. It's not the most inexpensive place to stay for sure, but it was a good VALUE and worth every penny. Dinner in the restaurant: Perfect. The food, the service, the atmosphere. They put a nice "Happy Birthday" card on the table, as well as a candle in the dessert. Nice touches. Again, not inexpensive, but worth every penny. We dealt with three different people during the weekend, and they were ALL extremely nice, accommodating, helpful and an absolute pleasure. If I had an issue, it was breakfast. I thought breakfast was included, but I went into the room where breakfast was served and saw the menu and the prices... it's was quite expensive and we figured we would just go out somewhere for breakfast, since it was clearly NOT included. But after further examination, it also seems like it may HAVE been included... it's very confusing. Even on their website it's difficult to figure out. So, we may have missed out on an included breakfast, which I'm sure would have been awesome as well. Probably overall one of the most 'perfect' weekends I've ever had away. Would do it again in a heartbeat. read more

The Kemble Inn was a stunning backdrop for our Spring wedding of approximately 90 guests - the grounds were well-kept, the food was phenomenal and the wait staff made sure all of our guests were taken care of during the reception. The reason I would not recommend this venue is that there is no middle management to plan and coordinate events. When we signed our contract to secure the venue, we were led to believe there was a specific person that took care of events, as well as an inn manager who would both be able to guide us through the planning process and be there on the day-of the wedding to make sure everything goes smoothly. Unfortunately, the events person was fired (without a replacement) shortly after we signed the contract, and the inn manager was never mentioned again (we later found out she was on maternity leave, again no replacement). Due to those factors, the Kemble Inn owner attempted to fill all of those roles, though it was quite obvious that he was not used to doing so - I had to point out mistakes in almost every written proposal/contract/things he completely forgot about. Worst of all, the only time he made an appearance all wedding weekend was after the reception ended when the wedding party was all in the bridal suite winding down and the owner banged on the door telling us to go to bed and called the police on us - we had rented out the entire inn, the police told us there were no outside noise complaints and we were doing nothing wrong... But apparently the owner was just annoyed. Extremely innapropriate. Because of all of our amazing other vendors, including the most incredible wedding planner (that we had to hire because of the Kemble's incompetency that I mentioned earlier), the wedding turned out exactly as we'd hoped, but it was certainly no thanks to the venue or venue ownership. read more

BEWARE. Kemble Inn earlier this month was listed on Zillow as being available to rent for $14,900/month. This is consistent with what has been increasingly evident recently with this b&b. It's pricing for rooms is at the premium level but service fees and taxes add almost 20%. It provides a breakfast allowance of $25/person/day but the pricing for the breakfast is so high that the allowance does not go far. It offers a 15% room discount but only if you pay the full amount in advance (it sought from me, a long time customer, in January the full amount for a proposed 8 night stay in August). I won a stay here through a local drawing. I never win anything, and I was so excited! While the organization I entered through was fantastic, everything about working with the staff and owner was just awful. Despite talking with and confirming plans and reservations through several staff members, and even receiving confirmations for our overnight stay and meals, booked over a month ago, I received a call today, 4 days before valentines day, canceling. Their reason was having other folks in line interested in spending more money than we would (as prize winners), so now 4 days before valentines day my husband and I are left upset, disappointed, and with no time to find anything available for the weekend. We had also had show tickets for the Barrington Stage Company, which we are also forced to forgo as we no longer have reservations for a place in the area to stay. After all this, and their heartless dealings with me, I will never recommend going there if this is how reservations are handled, nor do I recommend the Kemble Inn to anyone else. read more

This review is for "The Lawn" only. The Lawn is a stunning area in the back of the Inn with a beautiful view of the distant mountains. It's set up with a several tables where one can have a drink or nibble on a snack. We looked for a table that wasn't littered with dirty glasses and finally found one. Literally one. The rest had dirty glasses on them. We were told by one of the staff that you had to get your own drinks in the bar and take them outside. We went into the Green Bar where the poor bartender was trying to keep up with ALL the drink orders coming in. We got our drinks and went outside. We are locals and decided to come here again with friends and try it one more time after writing the place off due to bad experiences. We stopped coming for drinks because it was so poorly run we got tired of waiting for 30 min for a drink. The place seems to still be run by the same people because it still is far off the mark when it comes to the service. If you're going to put signs outside the property and print cute little cards touting, "The Lawn" then put up the service... something in short supply at The Kemble Inn. read more

My boyfriend and I ended up coming here by chance: he had purchased a Groupon as a gift for a family member who was unable to use it before the expiration date, so we got to use the one-night getaway, and I have to say that this is a fantastic place to stay. The staff was friendly and accommodating and our room--the Charles Dickens room--was absolutely adorable...despite not being at all Dickens themed. It did however include a fireplace, 2-person bathtub in a funky little nook within the bathroom, miniature library complete with several books about Western MA, flatscreen TV, and a piano! The place is being renovated and we got a chance to talk to the carpenter in charge who specializes in refurbishing old buildings. Seems like the place is going to be beautiful when it's finished. It's also located across the street from this gorgeous church, and is minutes from downtown Lenox where there are some great looking shops, although we came on a Sunday night before the Tanglewood, Shakespeare & Co., etc seasons opened, so things were a little dead. The hotel owner suggested a few good restaurants, and I would highly recommend Nudel for DELICIOUS locavore food. Breakfast in the morning was included with our stay and delicious as well. We enjoyed our coffee before food was served on their wraparound back porch to enjoy the magnificent view of the Berkshires beyond their backyard. The owner does the cooking and makes a mean fritatta. Breakfast is self serve, sit-down style at the large dining room table along with the other hotel guests, which made for a nice quasi-social atmosphere before checkout. Overall just an excellent experience. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a low-key Berkshire experience. read more

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner in the dining room at the Kemble this weekend. My pork tenderloin was fork tender, tasty, and juicy...the use of fresh local apples in the sauce was a great add. Our beef entree was also seasoned very well and cooked perfectly to temp. All in all a wonderful meal. The setting is spectacular and we enjoyed getting to visit with other diners just by the friendly nature of the dining room. If you are in the area you should make a reservation and make it a special evening. read more

I have stayed at the Kemble Inn three different times and each time it just blows me away. The staff couldn't be more welcoming. In fact, everyone bends over backwards to please. The rooms are beautiful, inviting, and have wonderful, very updated amenities. I have stayed at a number of other inns in the area, and none of them come close to the beautiful design and coziness of this inn. The breakfasts are wonderful, offering a variety of different things to choose from. And dinner at Table Six is not to be missed! The food is truly top notch! I absolutely love this place! I have stayed here twice, once with my girlfriends for a bachelorette party, and once with my husband. It is a beautiful inn with large, lovely rooms. They have a great bar room downstairs with excellent cocktails, and a big back porch with a gorgeous view of the mountains. The owner Scott and manager Nick are both so nice. During the bachelorette weekend we were pretty high maintenance guests and they were so accommodating and great. The location is perfect-- so close to town. It will always be my go-to place to stay when going to the Berkshires. read more

We had mixed feelings about the Kemble Inn. It is a gorgeous old building only a few blocks from the center of Lenox. It's a fantastic location. The young employees are delightful and responsive. Most of the rooms are very expensive, and the website says there is a two night minimum. Much to my delight I found a one night deal on Orbits for $280, which seemed like a bargain in high season. I grabbed it. I should have known better! If it seems too good to be true, it usually is!!!! Our room was on the 3rd floor, and we felt like we were in Upstairs/Downstairs or Downton Abbey -- only the servants in Downton Abbey had much better rooms. The rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors looked fantastic when we snuck a peek, but ours was horrendous. In room 301, the carpet was spotted and filthy. The bed was lumpy, small, and very uncomfortable. It was SO hot at night we had trouble sleeping, even though it was in the 50s outside and both windows were wide open. I think they turned off the AC at night to save money since it was a very warm weekend. Yes, there was high end shampoo and fluffy towels, but this room shouldn't be rented. We were told that it wasn't possible to upgrade. However, TO BE FAIR, the rest of the hotel is lovely, and the restaurant is fantastic. Our breakfast alone was easily worth probably $30-40 in a restaurant. Outside there is an expansive stone patio with fantastic views of the countryside. BOTTOM LINE -- IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO STAY ON THE 1ST OR 2ND FLOORS, DON'T GO! I didn't listen to the reviewers; you should listen to me! Their renovation has gone above the 2nd floor. read more

This was one of the most worst places i have ever been to. i have never written a bad review of anything before and i never complain but this deserves a complaint. First of all the room was not the one that they described on line and somehow they got switched between the online booking and arrival. The house is in disrepair and needs updating. The service was horrendous. Salvatore is pleasant but the service is terrible. Everything about the inn is less than mediocre. Across the street there is a beautiful and reasonably priced place but i can't remember the name in much better condition, competitive pricing and much better service. In addition they charged our credit card for things they should not have and told us they could not credit our card. . i am always worried when i read reviews that perhaps it is friend or family writing the reviews so be careful if you read or think something positive.
