Went to the kingdom as we've heard non stop it's a must go. Went inside and ordered, service was friendly with a great sense of humor. We ordered and then waited about 15 minutes, it's a frigid day so we opted to sit inside and wait. I was extremely impressed by the fufu and chicken. Everything was on point and flavorful. The environment was nice but the lingering grease/ oil smell that attached to our clothes after sitting there for a while was unbearable and we wound up having to run home and change before moving on with our day. This restaurant had been recommended to me by a co-worker. I had been looking for a place that had good Fufu and I have finally found it. I ordered the Beef Fufu, and although I was mistakenly giving the chicken instead it was still very much tasty. Ny husband ordered the Oxtail special and a Gyro and he enjoyed both. The oxtail had a very great flavor to it, the meat was very soft and tender. The service was very nice, the cashier who was also the cook was very friendly and they had a good amount of seating. It has a very homey feeling to it and it was very cleanly, including the restrooms. This is a great place if your looking to try something new. read more

Great new location!! We are very excited that the menu has the African selections on it all the time. Also I have to say this is one of the best value places in town. All the combos come with fries and a drink. Super nice staff as well. One thing of note would be that the menu is only posted behind the counter, and it has a lot of options, so it can be difficult to read. Maybe if there would be some printed off and sitting out it would help. We got a staple in the fried catfish. It was great as always, although slightly greasier than the last time we had it. We also got some chicken gizzards as an appetizer. Not my favorite taste of food, but worth a try once. We also got the chicken shawarma which was huge. The chicken was also flavored very nicely and the sauce on top was a great complement. The fish domada was nice and flavorful but the rice was a little clumped. The fish benachin had a nice light spiciness to it that is almost a delayed flavor. The dish was eaten surprisingly quickly for how large it was. Our server also brought out some hot sauce for us and note for everyone, when they say its spicy, they are telling the truth!! Really good hot sauce, but not one you can smother on. read more

Looks like a hole in the wall from outside but the inside is cozy and nice. It is small with only 6 tables but in the age of COVID that is a good thing. Not super clean but clean enough. It smells really good inside. There are men hanging around the bar with the owner speaking African but they all seem very kind. We ordered the Jerk Chicken, fried catfish and shrimp and bacon cheese burger with cheese fries. Decent price $39. They offer pick up and drive thru. They seem to have a buffet at some point but it was not up while we were there. They offer breakfast all day long. read more

the best place I have eaten in Madison . the Fufu was so good and oxtail fell apart so nicely it was delicious. I didn't get the name of the man who was working there but he was so nice and so quick with our food!! The owner is from the West African nation of The Gambia, and the menu features West African and American dishes, along with gyros and other items you might expect to find at a Greek restaurant. I ordered the lamb kabobs for pick up, and it was excellent. I suppose I could have given this place only four stars because prefer the meat less well-done side, or maybe came up with another quibble, but for what it is. . . I'd say this place is as good as it gets. The grilled lamb was nicely seasoned with bits of onion and tomato, and served on a bed of potato fries. The portion was huge, so my order for a single dinner was the basis for three complete meals when I added salads made from ingredients I had on hand to serve along with the entree. I reheated the fries in a cast-iron skillet, which made them hot and crisp the second (and third!) day. I'll be back, and I highly recommend you try this hidden gem for yourself. Bottom line: An incredible value on multi-cultural comfort food. read more

I went to their delivery page and ordered a Philly CheeseSteak with Fries and a Pepsi. They delivered on time as they promised, the food looked tasty (view picture) but it was lacking flavor and what I could taste was burnt...The fries were unflavored as well and soggy. The drink was supposed to be a Pepsi(as was 1 of the 3 options given), I got a Faygo Cola. I was completely underwhelmed with the food i paid for. I would like to give them 1 more chance. We came due to all the good things I had heard about The Kingdom. The Northport location is roomy for many people. When we arrived on a Saturday afternoon, a band was setting up in the front window area. We walked up to the counter to order. There is breakfast all day, sandwiches, gyros/shawarma, curries. Lots to choose from. There was a gyro, chicken shawarma, and a peanut curry sauced dish called Domada with chicken. Everything is made to order so there is a bit of a wait but worth it. Both sandwiches were big and meaty. Served with fries. The meat in both sandwiches were seasoned well. The Domada sauce was flavorful with a bit of a curried kick at the end. Served with chicken on the bone over rice or couscous. The portion is generous. There was enough for an extra meal. Some will say that it's not a fancy place to eat. Fine, say that and order takeout. But I feel it is a nice local spot to try some North African Middle East style foods. I hope more people find this spot. read more

I still dont fully understand this restaurant. Breakfast? Gyros? Fried chicken? African food? Jerk Chicken? Cheese curds? Fried fish? Open until midnight? A friend was looking for some African food so we decided to give this a try. She got the Benachin and I got the Domada. While I have had African food before, I had not tried either of these dishes before, so I cant honestly say if they were correct or authentic. The Benachin had a strong mustard taste. The Domada had a thick peanut butter sauce. Both came with a side of hot sauce that was VERY hot. We got cheese curds on a whim. They werent exceptional, about on a par with Culver's. More breading than cheese. Portions were huge and came with drinks. My friend tried the tea which she LOVED. Nothing was exceptional but worth trying some other items. I've been hoping for an African restaurant to come to the Northside for a long time, so I was excited for Kingdom's arrival. On our visits so far, I've had the Yassa and the chicken curry, and both have been delicious- the kind of meals I think about long after and look forward to having again. The space is pretty minimal, but they've done a bit to give an African feel. The staff has always been very friendly. After trying unsuccessfully to get a person on the phone from 8 :00 am until 9:00 am this morning my coworker drove over to the establishment for breakfast. when she got there the signed had the hours posted , and although it was well after the hour posted the door was locked and no one was in there. very disappointed that you are not open when you say you are and that your phone system is so outdated that it doesn't even have a recording of the business name and REAL hours that you are open. we ended up getting breakfast delivered from a another establishment this morning. read more

I really want this place to work. Like.. REALLY. There are not enough locally owned places to go get a good fried chicken or fish any day of the week. It's nice they share their "taste of Africa" menu as well, because I'm also a big fan of world cusine. I've given them a few chances, and here is how those all went. Visit 1, early pandemic, May 2020. I ordered ahead for a catfish sandwich and also the Domada. The Domada was made at LEAST one day before, likely more like two or three days. It was not reheated well, and as a result was a thick dry mess of meat and sauce. I ended up throwing most of it away. I also ordered couscous but was given very dried white rice, which I hadn't notice until I got home. The catfish sandwich was awesome. Fries were unremarkable. Employee [owner?] was not masked while doing food prep or interacting with me. Visit 2, June 2020. I wanted to mix and match again but just couldn't trust based on previous experience, and so I just got the catfish sandwich. It was good. Fries were meh. Visit 3, May 2021. I ordered the gyro/fry combo. I thought I ordered on the app, but it had malfunctioned and so I ordered in person and was the only customer or order at the time. Short wait time, not at all a problem. The gyro was substantial in size, and hit the spot. It wasn't what I was used to-- an unorthodox white sauce, sauteed onions and red peppers along with the meat-- but was still tasty. The pita broke in half not quite halfway through, but that is not uncommon. Unfortunately, the fries were old and cold. C'mon, man. I was the ONLY customer, and I waited patiently, the least you could do was make fresh fries! What's more is that they were covered in barbecue sauce. Huh? Since when is that a thing? Finally, a drink comes with the combo and since they don't have any non-soda options [like tea or lemonade], I went with Sprite, thinking I'd enjoy a refreshing gin/Sprite after some yard work. It was water. Not even bubbly. Flat, icy water. Get your act together. I'd like to return for the catfish sandwich, or perhaps have the guts to try an ethnic meal again, but I just don't think it's worth the risk and likely frustration. This guy just clearly does not take pride in his business, which is sad. One star. read more

The inside is very nice, the gentleman that checked me out was so friendly and polite. I had a gyro omelet and hash browns. It was delicious! My hash browns were so nice and crisp, just how I asked. My fiancé had French toast, bacon and hash browns. He loved his breakfast as well. Our total was only $15.00. That is comparable to McDonald's. The portion sizes were very large as well! This place was not very good at all. The man behind the counter was nice, but he also didn't really look like he cared to be there. When my girlfriend and I walked in we asked to get out order and the man had my burger sitting there waiting for us, but then went to the back to get the curry which my gf had ordered. When he went to the back we both heard a microwave turn on, almost as if he was heating up the curry in a microwave... He came back out with our order and we payed about 20$ for it all, which isn't bad for what we got. When we got home she opened up her container with the curry and it had whole chicken legs in there and was quite cold. I have been wanting to try the TikTok sensation Fufu. This is the ONLY place in Madison that offers it. I was not impressed. The stew had very good flavor. The fufu on the other hand was slimy, not as firm as I would have expected. I had placed my order online, and took me about 10-15 minutes to get to the restaurant from where I ordered. I recieved a message that my order would be ready in 15 minutes. Perfect right! Not exactly. When I arrived there was one man behind the counter and literally no one in the restaurant. It took about 15 mins after I arrived for me to receive my order. I swear it was warmed up in the microwave. When I got home I plated my food and the center was COLD... chicken was cold, fufu was not hot! Fufu was room temperature and I believe had become slimy from condensation. I've only lived in Madison for about 4 months now and good food has not been easy to come by. I ordered the jerk chicken and my boyfriend ordered the fish and chicken combo. Both were really good but the jerk chicken is why we'll be back. It was spicy but not overly so and quite flavorful. It was served on top of jasmine rice which soaked up the juices from the chicken. I am accustomed to good food and this is definitely what we got.
