After moving our son into the dorms, we wanted to enjoy a lunch together. Our son chose The Kitchen Sink. Another solid pick by our son. It's located in downtown in an old building. The ambiance is very nice with tables made of old wood doors. Great repurposing! Inside they offer a variety of seating options. The ordering process is quite simple. We picked up some menus and sat at one of the great tables. After a while we ordered at the register and provided our name upon request. Once our food is ready they bring it to the table. My order of Beef on Weck with tallow fries and lentil soup looked and tasted great! It was a nice lunch time portion. The bread was lightly salted, beef was moist and not over seasoned, horseradish was perfect, fries were good, and the lentil soup had a nice spice to it. Overall a great meal. This is such a great place off the main area of downtown. Definitely recommend eating here. I'm sure we'll return. read more

Very cute small local eatery. In the heart of the Brooklyn arts district. The staff is very nice and they are very helpful. Loved their lavender lemonade. Fresh lemonade mind you! Had the Parmesan fries and they were good. My kids (the toddlers!) came with me it's kid friendly. We ate in the back patio. They only have one umbrella so rest of yard is in the sun. Inside is small seats a lot. Chairs mixed with benches. You basically order food then they call you up. The staff was kind to bring to me in back knowing I had toddlers with me. They had kids options on menu but basics like pbj chips fruit Mac and cheese etc... I'll have to come back one day with a friend to try the good food lol. We have eaten at the Kitchen Sink twice before going to the Wilson Center for shows. It is an easy walk to the Center. Both times we had sandwiches and salads. The food was average both visits. I got Nonna's meatball sandwich the second visit and again didn't find it that flavorful. I got chips with my meatball sub and they were tasty especially with ranch dressing (that I requested) . My friend looked at the chips and said they looked a little too brown. I didn't mind at all. There was not much service to speak of on our second visit. What is there not to love about this place?! We are in town from NY. We stopped to grab lunch I got the sweet n savory with the house made chips. My daughter got the Mac n cheese and fries. Huge portions of fries were are mouthwatering. My sandwich has so much flavor and blended well together. The Lavender Lemonade is a must and refreshing. We ended up coming back my daughter got the same thing again but with the parm fries. I got the Goat which is AMAZING it was so yummy. The soup was really good too. I had the monte cristo and liked the savory and sweet mix. My friend had the rosemary biscuit with hoop cheese, she really liked it. It threw off the taste of the entire meal. I'm serious. I was really disappointed and to be fair, other menu items I saw looked good, so I'm sure there are things here worth trying. The kitchen sink is a very cute and cozy place, hippie like. I liked the plants, brick walls, and the creative touches, like the wooden door tabletop and the half bicycle wall art. What's even better is free street parking! We sat in the cozy corner next to the wall of herbs. The chairs were comfortable, but the table was annoyingly wobbly. I had the beef on a weck roll with au jus. The roll was topped with Caraway seeds and flaky sea salt. The sandwich was underwhelming, a bit bland. Most of the caraway seeds were centralized in the center so it was like taking a bite full of caraway seeds when I hit the center of the sandwich. The cucumber salad that came with the beef on a weck roll sandwich was very good. There was a choice of two different kinds of cucumber salads and I got the one with creamy horseradish. The cucumbers were sliced thinly and had tons of sliced red onion and fresh dill. The side of fries were hot and crispy, fresh out of the fryer, but too greasy. I liked that they had no high fructose corn syrup ketchup. Got to sample my friends veggie soup and mac and cheese. They were both decent. The veggie soup tasted like a basic tomato based soup. Wasn't a huge fan of the lavender lemonade. The lavender was too strong. It was semi cold so if you like it cold you'll need to add ice. It's nice you get free refills. Interesting there's a sign that says no pets on the door outside, yet one of the customers had her French bulldog in a screened pet carrier with wheels. Maybe it was a service animal.. This is a cute place to get together for lunch dates, but don't expect too much from the food. read more

Adorable spot located in the Brooklyn Arts District. We stopped in for a late lunch today and was not disappointed. My Mom and I split the Beef on Weck & The Goat and both were wonderful! Everything there was so fresh and literally picked right there. They have a cool herb wall located at the front of the restaurant that they utilize in their various dishes. I was really hoping to like this place based on the reviews but we unfortunately had a terrible experience. I saw one of the servers stick her fingers into a cup of coffee to get something out of it and then serve it to a customer. Some of our food was cold and hard, the other (like the avocado toast) was just ok. One of us told the server her food was incorrect and cold so she just didn't want it and the server gave her a very hard time about it then charged her for a drink she didn't even drink. Overall it was a very poor experience, and I would not recommend coming here. read more

I've been wanting to try the Kitchen Sink's brunch for ages and went with a group of 7 today. I reached out via DM in advance to see if it was possible to reserve for a large group and never heard back, though they've been active on social media since. Oh well. We got there right at open and were seated quickly and brought waters shortly thereafter. It took a while for someone to come take orders and a pretty significant amount of time for us to get our drinks. Our food took a while and then came staggered so that some of us were left with our food getting cold (or being rude and eating before others were served) while others were left hungry. They have two tables for large parties, so this can't be the first time they've had a large group. We had to ask for utensils when our food came. We then had to ask for napkins, were brought three or four for the seven of us, and then had to ask for more. The hostess was also our server - I'm not sure if they were understaffed or if that's the norm - and that was more than one person should/could handle. I got a mimosa flight, a poached egg flight, and a side of fruit. One of the mimosas verged on unpleasant - my whole group thought so - but the rest were great. The poached egg flight was fun, beautifully presented, and tasty. The side of fruit was pretty pricy for what it was, but it served its purpose. A few things about the mimosas. They're served in a really appealing way, in various sized/shaped glasses on a tray. With that said, the different glass sizes mean that everyone is paying the same amount for a different amount of drinks. One of the members of my party got probably an ounce of our favorite while I got 2 or 3 ounces. They ran out of one of the mimosas around 10:30 - 30 minutes after opening - which seems odd. The payment system was a bit baffling. We were told to pay at the counter which is in the back of the restaurant. For the seven of us we needed to break into three payments which meant that three of us were standing in a very narrow area waiting to pay. We were in the way of both servers and other customers and kept having to move to let them through. Then the person ringing us up didn't know how to break up the check so someone else needed to come help. Again, not a big deal, but not how I want to end my meal. I'd go back - there are so many menu items I'd like to try. But having to wait so long for drinks, having to ask separately for utensils and napkins, the gap in us all being served, and the discomfort with payment was definitely a bummer. read more

Six of us ate here for lunch after a local walking tour in the area. It's a great soup and sandwich shop (and salads too). You can order a bowl of soup or a flight of soup (four small bowls of different soups). I decided on the sweet and savory sandwich with a cup of mushroom bisque. It was one of the specials soups of the day. It was fantastic! One of my friends ordered The Goat and we split our sandwiches to share. I enjoyed both, but I think the Goat was my favorite. Every time I come in the food is amazing and the staff has always been excellent. My son has Celiac's and they are very accommodating with prep and showing me any ingredients labels.
