Went to Kolache Cafe in Ahwatukee and was pleasantly surprised! Modern decor and the restaurant is nice and clean. I went here with one of my sons a the owner/manager took our order. He was friendly and helpful since this was our first time here and first time trying kolaches. We came on a Sunday around noon and we were able to order and get our food within 5 minutes as it was not too busy. Things seem like they would go quickly with the only hold up being newbies like us who contemplate what to order since there is a good variety to choose from. We order a half dozen savory (3 Brisket and mashed potato, 2 pulled pork w/pickle, 1chicken and cheese) and one sweet which was a peach cheesecake. I would guess 1 would suffice if you're a light eater, 2 would be good for a normal meal, 3 or more if you have a good appetite and 56 if you have the same appetite as Joey "Jaws" Chestnut. We ate them in the restaurant and they were heated up. Our first thoughts is that it reminded us of a baked Char Siu Bao and are about the size of a baseball or slightly smaller. The bread was soft and slightly sweet and tasted sort of like a King's Hawaiian roll. The filling on each of these was very good and a good proportion of bread to filling ratio, however, I'm trying to watch my carbs so I peeled away some of the bread. The brisket had a slight smoky flavor and was excellent. I believe the chicken and pulled pork had barbecue sauce and was just the right amount of sauce and the pickle added a nice touch of crunch along with the right touch of brine from a good dill pickle slice. The peach cheesecake was also good and I regret not having a cup of cold milk to go with it. I would say it's a little smaller than a Danish. I liked them so much I ordered a few more (smoked sausage w/cheese, meatball, chorizo/egg/cheese and another pulled pork w/pickle and a key lime cheesecake) to bring home to another son and my lovely wife. Chatted with the owner a bit and he just opened up in Feb'2021 with this being the first kolache restaurant in town that I know of. Come and try this and help support a local small business. I recommend the brisket (although I would prefer a bit more meat and little less potato), pulled pork, chicken and smoked sausage. read more

Drove in from Scottsdale to check out the cafe! Went around 1pm, only one person in front of us in the drive thru. Very fast and friendly staff, even said "thank y'all" to add on a little Texas flare! We tried the sausage and gravy, hot dog, bbq pulled pork with jalapeño and brisket mashed. Everything was delicious! For dessert we had the bacon cinnamon roll! My husband said "10/10 most insane cinnamon roll i've ever had" and he knows his cinnamon rolls! Today was my first time trying this place. It tastes a bit different than kolaches from Texas, but delicious nonetheless. The best part was the excellent customer service though! Wonderful customer service and the menu is vast with many options to choose from. The service and the menu gained the stars..unfortunatly not the Kolaches. If you are from Texas or a region that serves Kolaches, you will find these to be a far distant relative. I lived in Texas for many years and kolaches is a go-to for our family that we would often have every single weekend. When you first bite into a kolache you will experience soft pillowy dough that is baked to perfection and filled with fresh ingredients that explode in your mouth. A true kolache is an experience unlike any other there's nothing like it and hence why they are extremely popular in states that this is look to be a normal delicacy. Unfortunately the dough here is really tough, and when you bite into it the bread does not slowly release into your mouth. It's similar to biting a consistency of a pretzel bun. We ordered sausage egg and cheese, sausage and cheese, and brisket potato kolache. They were out of my favorite which would be the bacon egg and cheese. They said they were sold out, and I went about 8:00 a.m. and I asked when was a good time for me to try to get the bacon egg and cheese and the nice gentleman at the drive thru window replied for me to come by at 7:00 a.m. My first thought is if the bacon kolaches are that popular you need to make more so your customers don't have to come by 7:00 a.m. and witness a sellout moment. We ordered a half dozen and ate only two of them unfortunately. However I will say that if you've never had a real kolache in your life this place is going to be a good spot for breakfast. They are extremely friendly, have a nice menu and they partner with The Buzzed goat coffee shop which I think is a nice touch. I wish this place much success and I think it's going to be great for the neighborhood . While Kolache Cafe had some startup issues and was temporarily closed for staff training on my first visit, looks like they addressed any logistical issues and were operating like a well oiled machine (at least with COVID restrictions when I visited on a sunny, cool Saturday morning. I was excited to try this place after hearing so many good things about it, and it definitely did not disappoint. I tried a few savory and sweet kolaches and came out with some favorites. Some of our savory kolaches came out a little cold, but they were still tasty. The line inside is a little confusing to navigate, so if it's busy it might take a bit to order. There are stanchions that block off the register area, but it's unclear where exactly the line is supposed to start. They also have a drive through if you don't want to go inside. Super nice employees who are eager to help, but unfortunately the kolaches themselves missed the mark for me. I tried a couple of their sweet ones and have to say that the bread was pretty tough (overkneaded?) and both could have used at least double the amount of filling. Wow, just had a delivery of four different Kolaches, two each and we loved them. Oh my goodness, I can't wait until they open their store this coming July. Great prices and wonderful selection. These are the real deal. I know some donut shops have their version but they don't hold a candle to the ones I just ate. I had the Sausage and Gravy, pepperoni, as well as the egg cheese and sausage . Next week I'll be trying the cheesecake version. It's more fast foodish than I expected, but it was very clean with friendly and quick service. We ordered at the counter, sat down and a runner brought out the food and coffee. Yes! One of my favorite places! We went to get Kolache twice in one week. I love savory more and my husband loves sweet. On the first run i had mashed potatoes and brisket- yum! 100% yes, I will get it again. From the sweet we had coconut cream, Bavarian cream ( both are good, not sure which one was coconut), chocolate cream (tastes like pudding inside), raspberry, peach, lemon, cherry cheese - all are very good and not overly sweet. Out of sweets my favorite was raspberry. The second time we stopped right at 6 am on our way to the airport. I ordered egg and bacon- it was heavenly delicious! Also had eggs and spinach- it was good, but the bacon was better. My husband had chorizo and eggs - this one is absolute must! Yum!!!! He also had lemon and raspberry. Weekends are for Kolaches in this household. Since the weekend about a year ago when we tried these treats we've come back about 20 times. The doughy pockets of goodness are a great and fun meal. The savory options are more substantial whereas the sweet options are better for a dessert or as a breakfast pastry. For the savory I recommend the Jalapeno, Sausage, and cheese (more of a lunch option though I won't judge you) and for the sweet get the maple pecan. I do wish they'd update the options on the savory side and also season the fillings more. For all the egg options I have to cut them open and add salt before eating or they can be bland. read more

This restaurant offers a very unique product. There isn't anything quite like it here in the Phoenix metro. The other thing special here is the staff, in particular Bailey who is the manager. She is one of the most energetic and enthusiastic people I've ever met. She truly believes in her product and wants everyone that walks through the door to love the kolaches as much as she does! Finally made it to The Kolache Cafe which I've been dying to try for a long time! Never had a kolache before. They were yummy! Surprisingly, I found I liked the savory, entree type kolaches better than the sweet. The pastry outside was steamy, buttery, warm and gently chewy! Mmmm! The insides are filled nicely with fresh ingredients that are warm and well spiced and delicious! It's like a perfect little sweet, savory, flavorful pouch of goodness! Imagine a meal en croute - in pastry - mmmmm! What I really loved is that you get a good 4-6 bites of each kind, but not an entire meal of it. It's like eating several small, delicious, perfectly prepared individual meals at once. Awesome! It's like going to a great restaurant and getting to try several bites of everything on the menu that sounds good to you. Hey, that's a great idea, and I am claiming in in writing, right here on Yelp!, bring on the royalties! I digress. Unfortunately, by the time we got there, which was close to closing time, they were out of quite a few Kolaches that I wanted to try. But, I can't really blame them, they want to provide hot, freshly made products and they can't do that by storing and saving them until the next day. And, it would be irresponsible to make way too many and throw them away at the end of the day. I imagine, as with many places who make hot, fresh food that involves pastry components must estimate how many they'll need to make each day and make that many. The SERVICE and people are fantastic, friendly, homey, comfortable and generous as well. All things considered, the PRICES are not bad. It seems to me the 6 pack of Kolaches with 3 savory and 3 sweet for $14 is a good deal. Since I like the savory even more than the sweet, six savory for $15 isn't bad either. Now, if you have a serious sweet tooth, getting six of the sweet/fruit Kolaches for $9 is a rocking deal! Would I go back? Absolutely! I honestly have been craving them! The kolache itself was sooo good. They have the dough recipe down. Chorizo egg and cheese - yummy. Get this. Meatball- very good. Wish it was even more seasoned in the meatball, but I'd still be very happy ordering this again. Pepperoni pizza- I don't know why I thought it would have more cheese, but it was mainly layers of pepperoni. Good, but didn't love it. Spinach, egg, & feta- it was good, but it could've been better. I wish they used a spanakopita mix instead of plain spinach which would really amp up the flavor. After my first bite, I just thought "unseasoned". Smoked chicken and cheese- meh. The smoke tasted fake to me and it was heavy handed with the smoke. BBQ pork and pickle- it was imbalanced with WAY too much pickle. It was almost half of the filling. After craving a kolache so badly this was a shining beacon. My favorite kolaches to get are savory and their smoked sausage and jalapeno and cheese one is amazing. Pair it with some mustard or ketchup or both. It will change you. I didn't get a chance to try out their other options as this was sort of a second lunch stop for me-and i had to make room for this one kolache. But they have different kinds. They have pulled pork, pizza and hot dog kolaches. They also have breakfast kolaches and all kinds of dessert ones as well. With cheesecake, and fruit fillings. So good and so worth trying it out. Everything about the kolache cafe is amazing. First of all, Bebe and Jose (the owners) are incredible humans and they have done such a good job hiring because we always get fantastic service. The Southwest is the best breakfast bite you can get, and the spinach and feta and sausage and gravy and sausage and cheese are also to die for. One the one hand I was really hoping for a life altering experience of Kolache goodness here based on the reviews. On the other hand I'm almost glad it wasn't, as the seventy mile one way trip to get them would have really sucked had I fallen in love with them, and had to make the trip regularly to fulfill the constant need for their yummy goodness. I have been wanting to try this place out for awhile as I currently work in the area. I stopped in to order and bring some Kolaches home for my family for dinner last week. The server at the counter was so sweet and really helpful when I inquired about ordering for myself, husband, and 2 year old daughter. My husband tried the sausage and cheese, pulled pork, and meatball Kolaches which he said were excellent. I tried the potato and cheese and the spinach and feta which I really enjoyed. We shared the caramel apple and the maple cream Kolaches for dessert. I would definitely return here in the future to try out more of their flavors. Kolaches are unique and delicious. Never had a kolache before until today...it's just that time of the month for ya girl and she needed some pastries stat! Decided to try Kolache Cafe since it was close by. As a baker myself I was curious what these would taste like. My husband loves hot dog buns from Asian bakeries such as Tours Les Jours and Paris Baguette, so I got some kolache versions! After some googling it seems like kolaches are from Texas but inspired from Czech pastries? Interesting. The bread itself is quite soft, but a bit thick for my liking. Not soft and fluffy like the buns from Tours Les Jours which I love. My favorite was the strawberry cheesecake kolache, the filling to bread ratio was perfect. The apple one was a miss for me since it was mostly bread and the apple filling was mediocre. Sausage and cheese bum satisfied my hubbie's craving! Sausage and gravy felt too heavy.
