The kolaches are so good but at times have not been warmed up thoroughly. If you're headed out this might be a turn off but if we're going home we throw them in the microwave for a few seconds and they still warm up nicely. Would recommend the sweet and pulled pork kolaches! read more

A bao by any other name would taste just as sweet, and that is what we would call this Czech American pastry, a bao. Between the two kinds, of the savory, I can recommend from among the numerous breakfast options the smoked sausage variants, with a satisfying chunk of smoked sausage, and the sausage and gravy particularly, with its big hit of black pepper. Full disclaimer - I've never had a kolache, so I don't know what makes one good or bad....but I do know I just didn't love what I ordered from here. I don't live nearby, but I happened to be in the area and decided to try. I ordered 5 different flavors: -potato, egg & cheese: was super bland -chocolate bavarian: wasn't very chocolatey and had a weird aftertaste -sausage and gravy: this one was actually very good. I would get this again -key lime: had a good flavor, but there wasn't enough of the filling. -pumpkin: again, very bland I hate wasting food, but the only one my husband and I actually finished was the sausage and gravy. I also just didn't enjoy the pastry dough itself...it was bland and chewy. The employees were wonderful, helpful, and had all-around great customer service. Stopped by for lunch. My husband loved the hotdog. Next time we order a half dozen, my husband wants three hotdogs. The ham and cheese was good. We have brisket and chicken left over for dinner along with lemon and apple. The egg and pulled pork were not to our taste. We will be back. Heads up - even though their website, Yelp, and the sign on their front door says they close at 7, they actually close at 6. What's more, their website will accept your order *and your credit card payment* for a pick-up time after 6pm, even though you can't pick it up. I'm literally writing this standing outside their front door. The kitchen manager is still on-site (I have her on the phone), but she claims only the general manager has the register codes to give a refund, and he's not answering his phone. They won't even open the door to let me resolve this inside...I'm standing outside in 113-degrees while they figure out how to run a restaurant. I wish I could tell you my rating is about their food, but I'm not even able to try it. I'm just trying to get my freaking money back. What a nightmare. read more

***updated review*** So disappointing... I once loved this place.. but it seems as though things have taken a turn for the worse since Tiffany left. Customer service is very spotty now and they always seem understaffed. The owner always seems like his head is about to explode from being so overwhelmed and consumed by stress and frustration... which I noticed he then takes out on the employees. Delicious offerings. So delicious that we returned 2 days later to try more selections. I have tried 6 different savory Lunch/Dinner items and 7 dessert altogether. We plan to be regular opting to dine in Asa well as take a dozen and more home. Loved the shredded pork w/pickle, the smoked sausage w/cheese, meatball, still have 3vnew ones in fridge to heat for tomorrow. All the desserts heat and eat days later as do the filled savory options. We're we tailgaters, these would be perfect. Worst waste of space to sell only 1 item that can be bagged so why the big empty dining area? Why no salads , soups or sides. These pastries are gross hockey pucks in different flavors but only other side is a beverage. Schlotsky's was super better when they occupied this building. Staff was nice and all and it was fast and convenient. I just didn't cate for it. We like savory foods so we ordered a few of the savory ones (sausage and egg, chorizo and egg, and sausage and gravy). Well ..... it's a sweet bread with different things stuffed inside like, today we had pepperoni and cheese, pulled pork with pickle, smoked sausage and cheese , smoked sausage and jalapeño, Italian sausage and gravy. There are so many more of breakfast and lunch. If you are from Texas you are probably familiar and if you're not try it !! I've only had kolaches in Texas, and never any sweet ones, just the savory ones. This time, we got 3 savory and 3 sweet. Pizza, spinach and feta, and potato, eggs, and cheese. The kolaches are scrumptious. The attendant was very helpful. They have sweet dessert kolaches and sausage, cheese and ham varieties.

I drove through a few months ago, when this place is officially open for business and my food was ice cold in the center. I had to look up online if this was a place that sold food prepared to cook at home. It is not. I thought I'd give it another try, I ordered two kolache and mentioned to the woman my experience prior. My kolache were hot. They also had the rubbery texture of egg that had been heated and reheated. The white bread surrounding the filling is more flavorful than what's inside. It's super disappointing. This place is a little gem in the neighborhood. It's close enough I can walk, so I probably stop in at least once a month. Personally I don't care for breakfast or the sweet kolaches, but I've tried nearly all of the savory and you can't go wrong. My favorite is definitely the pizza kolache. The brisket mashed potato with jalapeno is my other go to. The texture of the roll with the cheesy potatoes is unmatched! read more

Staff was super friendly, owner was nice and hands on helping out in the restaurant cleaning in the front while the rest of the staff was attending to customers. Hadn't had kolaches in nearly 2 decades and was very leery but found out that he lived in Texas for a while so that made me feel better. I got the smoked sausage kolache, it's one I would get every weekend back home and it brought me back to that time! We went back after our nail appt and ended up getting another 18 and so far the ones we've had have all been really good. Can't believe I waited this long to try this place! Wow!! Seriously one of my new favorite carb-o-licious finds!! I am totally obsessed!! Kolache are a brioche style bun that encompasses some type of filling either sweet or savory. They have a morning breakfast style and an afternoon evening style......sooo many options to list would take forever but I am recommending try any and all they will not disappoint! We were there for breakfast today and tried the southwestern and apricot cheesecake and the sausage and gravy with Bavarian creme and spiced apples. Whoa....life changed! I was pretty excited to get some Texas style kolaches for the first time since leaving Texas almost two years ago. Social distancing measures were in effect and staff were all wearing masks and gloves. Speaking of the staff, they were friendly. The food however was okay. I had a smoked sausage egg & cheese kolache that was basically egg. I couldn't taste the cheese or bacon. I added a picture to show the lack of two of the three ingredients. The dough was not bad. I also got a smoked sausage, cheese and jalapeño kolache and that was solid. The sausage reminds me of a sausage you'd find in a Shipley's donut Kolache. Not bad but I prefer a sausage that has more spices in it. I could taste and see cheese and the jalapeños in that one. My child got a cinnamon roll and that was good! I'd be willing to go back and try other things on the menu but to be honest I am disappointed. I didn't try any of the fruit ones but they did look good. read more

The recipes are original Czech not an attempt to copycat - so for Texans - don't try to compare. Same name, but different. The staff is delightful, anchored by two smiling pros supported by teens and young adults in their first jobs. Kudos to helping develop positive work ethics. Value? Compared to a McMuffin, croissant, and other fast food - no comparison! Fresh baked vs factory "fresh," ingredients mixed on-site, verses industrial batches, the interior has a homey comfort instead of industrial chic. The interior, spotless. Three days in a row I saw cleaning as follows: day 1 - wiping down all the chair legs; day 2 - deep clean the table tops; day 3 - feather dust the window sills and chair seats. Where have you ever seen 1 and 3? I was surprised by the negative reviews - so I read them and found two themes. #1 Start-up blues: the challenges of a small business owner with store #1. Today I think it's a happier toon and would encourage another store (or 10). #2. It ain't Texas. Yep, pardner. In many things, Arizona is a fusion of California and Texas spiced with a little Cactus and Snowbird (especially in winter). You won't find TexMex, it's CalTex, Just Mex or in this case AZChech. So, judge on its merits or compare to alternatives in similar price ranges - or higher - as I prefer this to a fancier sit-down up the street. read more

Went here for my birthday breakfast. The customer service was good. The Kolaches were ok. Not heated up very much and not a ton of filling in some of them but the flavor was great. These are wonderful! Filled with Strawberry or Blueberries. They then brought out a sausage and gravy one and that one was amazing. The egg and cheese one was good as well.
