We ordered one special (two fried breasts with two sides) and one order of a two piece dark plate. We had the beans, coleslaw, okra, and hush puppies. The chicken was amazing. Takes a while because it is cooked to order and it is worth it. The coleslaw, okra and hush puppies were excellent. The beans were very basic. They tasted like canned beans with a hint of spices added. The restaurant was very clean. The staff was mostly friendly, but very interested in each other and their phones. It did take some effort to get noticed by our server. The other servers definitely did not seem interested in checking in with us, so when our server disappeared for a while into the back so did our service. Certainly not a deal breaker, but not a good impression. I look forward to another visit. Hopefully, the service was just a one off. read more

We had a really great experience here, especially because of the amazing service. We came in with a large party and our waiter went above and beyond to accommodate us, moving tables for us to sit without us even having to ask! He also took the time to share the origin story of the restaurant, which was a nice personal touch and made the visit more memorable. I ordered the three-piece plate and everything was solid. My favorite was definitely the coleslaw, which was very sweet and paired well with the chicken. It also comes with beans and bread. The bone-in chicken had a moderate level of spice (around a 5/10) while the tenders were noticeably less spicy. Overall, chicken was delicious and very much on par with classic soul/Southern-style fried chicken. One fun bonus is that if you order a drink, it comes in a plastic souvenir cup that you can keep! Michelle greeted us and we asked if our dog could sit under a table as it was too hot outside. She asked the manager and he said yes! Michele was our server and took our order. Everything turned out amazing and the manager Sean came by to see how everything tasted! It was amazing and service was quick! We will be back! Restaurant was clean and plenty of seating. First time at Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken. I arrived at 1:25 on a Monday, thinking I'd be alone in the restaurant but there were actually four other parties there. I ordered the 3-piece dark and an iced tea, which came to $18.72 plus tip. Pretty good price! There was some minimal nostalgic decor on a couple of walls, along with several accolades from numerous nationwide newspapers. 50's soul, blues and jazz blared from the speakers but the tiled roof kept things speakable. I especially liked the 15' wide opening to the kitchen, allowing a peek at the cooks. Orders take 15-20 mins, since everything they do is cooked to order. My chicken was cooked just right and piping hot. It had a nice bite to it, from seasoning, not sauce. There was Louisiana Hot Sauce on the tables, for those who like a vinegar and pepper bit to their chicken. I didn't need it. The combo plates come with beans, slaw and a thick slice of white bread. Very traditional. The beans were okay. I felt that they'd been stewing too long because they dissolved like a marshmallow in my mouth. The Coleslaw was very good, with a mayo-based dressing and good crunch from the fresh cabbage. I enjoyed the correct amount to service from Nolan. The manager checked in on me as well. I'll definitely be returning to Gus's, next time I'm in the area. read more

Stopped in to try this most raved about fried chicken and was completely disappointed. I'm convinced that Arizona just doesn't know what good chicken is. I ordered the special that came with four wings, coleslaw, baked beans and a piece of bread. The chicken was beyond spicy. So spicy, I told myself they must brine it in jalapeño juice. I ate one flat and trashed the rest because I couldn't feel my bottom lip. Maybe I'm just a spice wimp. Ha! I didn't like the batter on the chicken either. It had a weird texture. I truly feel that if the spice level wasn't so intense, this chicken had potential. The coleslaw tasted like store bought coleslaw right out of the plastic container. Nothing special. The baked beans tasted like pork and beans with ketchup added. Nothing baked about it. I didn't like how the chicken, coleslaw and baked beans were all put together in one container as packaging the food is important. I truly believe how it was packaged impacted the texture of the chicken, making it soggy and the taste of the coleslaw, making it hot. Finally got to try the famous gus's chicken! I'm glad that they open a new one in Ahwatukee. Ordered 2 pieces dark meat combo and half chicken combo with original spicy, nommm it was so yum! Their fried skin part is perfectly seasoned and crispy, and the meat was soft and chewy. But meat part wasn't really seasoned, so you'll need to add salt to it. Fried okra was good too, yet this was a bit bland, I don't like anything salty but it was even bland for me. I wish they add more salt to it. Anyways their chicken is yum! read more

Let me say food is as perfectttttt! I was looking for a good soul/southern food place to get my chicken on. The service was on point I can't remember the young girls name but she was so nice kept coming by to ask if everything was okay or if we needed anything. She also gave suggestions of what is usually the top of everyone's order. If your always cold bring a sweater it will as 106 that day and when inside I cooled down to the point had to wear a sweater lol, but that's just me I'm an always cold person just a warning.
