So ended up trying this establishment as I really wanted some fried chicken and I didn't wanna make it. It did order ordering this on a delivery app and it was delivered pretty hot. I will say that I was very impressed with the fried chicken. I thought it was crispy, but yet juicy on the inside I was pleasantly surprised at how much spice the thigh and the legs had. For our sides, we got the potato salad and Greens. The greens were OK I'll say salad was OK. I did enjoy the pickles and I wish I would've ordered more of those pickles to go on the side with my chicken. We also ordered the sweet potato pie and I would not recommend or order that again. Overall, I thought the chicken was good if I was in a bind and didn't want to make fried chicken I would definitely order again. My husband got breast and he was not as thrilled with his meal, but he did like it. So I would get to give this establishment, probably four stars. For restaurant fried chicken to go it was pretty good definitely a step up from Popeyes and KFC but for the price point maybe I would expect a slightly more.

Probably the best fried pickles you can get in town! Each were $8 I believe. I think this is the only place that sells fried green tomatoes, all it takes se missing was some remoulade but all in all very delicious.

We had a really great experience here, especially because of the amazing service. We came in with a large party and our waiter went above and beyond to accommodate us, moving tables for us to sit without us even having to ask! He also took the time to share the origin story of the restaurant, which was a nice personal touch and made the visit more memorable. I ordered the three-piece plate and everything was solid. My favorite was definitely the coleslaw, which was very sweet and paired well with the chicken. It also comes with beans and bread. The bone-in chicken had a moderate level of spice (around a 5/10) while the tenders were noticeably less spicy. Overall, chicken was delicious and very much on par with classic soul/Southern-style fried chicken. One fun bonus is that if you order a drink, it comes in a plastic souvenir cup that you can keep! Great soul food place to visit.

If y'all haven't tried Gus's you haven't had fried chicken. Me and my wife had the white meat and catfish special and it was absolutely delicious, tender and juicy. Come on by and hopefully you get the serve Nolan! He was great as well always asking if we were good and happy to help. Coming back real soon!

Always delicious and fantastic service, super sweet folks and good food! I have to eat gluten free and the chicken is gluten free, along with some sides, just make sure you ask. The chicken is so darn tasty and they also have some really good specials. Check them out!

This is the best fried chicken you will ever have. Period. Service is stellar. Ambiance is chill. I have never had to wait to be seated, but expect to wait 15-30 minutes for your food after ordering because everything is cooked to order.

Chicken really wasn't as good as last visit. This time it was more chicken skin than chicken breading and had no spice. The only saver was both the slaw and beans were very tasty.

The Mac n cheese didn't even bother me because that chicken was sooo damn good that I won't even complain about the Mac .

Damn this is crazy . This Gus chicken location on ray road in phoenix is wayyyy better than Memphis locations. They did tell me that this location is actually owned by the company and not an individual franchise owner. This chicken was seasoned to the gods and the meat was even seasoned as good as the crust. The crust was light , crispy and thin without a bunch of heavy, thick batter and it was fire. I'm sorry Memphis but this particular location is wayyy better than any location in Memphis. This was the best GUS I HAVE EVER HAD!!!

Sunday, June 8th at 7:30 p.m. 3 of us came in after the dog park. It was a hot night so we didn't want to sit on patio. Michelle greeted us and we asked if our dog could sit under a table as it was too hot outside. She asked the manager and he said yes! Michele was our server and took our order. Everything turned out amazing and the manager Sean came by to see how everything tasted! It was amazing and service was quick! We will be back! Restaurant was clean and plenty of seating. There was only a few people sitting and seemed like a lot of to go orders. Plenty of parking! We need one of these in Casa Grande. Not many chicken choices!

First time at Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken. I arrived at 1:25 on a Monday, thinking I'd be alone in the restaurant but there were actually four other parties there. I ordered the 3-piece dark and an iced tea, which came to $18.72 plus tip. Pretty good price! There was some minimal nostalgic decor on a couple of walls, along with several accolades from numerous nationwide newspapers. 50's soul, blues and jazz blared from the speakers but the tiled roof kept things speakable. I especially liked the 15' wide opening to the kitchen, allowing a peek at the cooks. Orders take 15-20 mins, since everything they do is cooked to order. My chicken was cooked just right and piping hot. It had a nice bite to it, from seasoning, not sauce. There was Louisiana Hot Sauce on the tables, for those who like a vinegar and pepper bit to their chicken. I didn't need it. The combo plates come with beans, slaw and a thick slice of white bread. Very traditional. The beans were okay. I felt that they'd been stewing too long because they dissolved like a marshmallow in my mouth. The Coleslaw was very good, with a mayo-based dressing and good crunch from the fresh cabbage. I enjoyed the correct amount to service from Nolan. The manager checked in on me as well. I'll definitely be returning to Gus's, next time I'm in the area.

Horrible shocky powder over the top of just mediocre chicken. I don't think I'll ever eat that again.

Ask the Community - Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken - Ahwatukee

Are the fried chickens gluten free or is there an option for gluten free?

Hey Brendon, great question! You'll be happy to know that Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken is gluten-free! We hope to see you soon, and don't forget to leave us a review!

Is there only 1 level of spice - I like mild and the husband likes spicy?

Yes and no. We do not like spicy so our server suggested we order the chicken tenders which are the mildest. We took her advice and they were good. A little luck but not bad at all.

    Is there a drive thru?

No there isn't a drive thru.

When is this business opening? Ate at the 16th Street location at end of April, they thought Ahwatukee would be open a couple weeks from that time. As of June 3rd,still not open.

They had a soft opening today and should be open officially on Wednesday, 6/14!

Holy Toledo! There aren't many places that serve great fried seafood and chicken, but Nad's…read moreabsolutely delivers. If you're looking for perfectly fried comfort food, I highly recommend giving this place a try. I ordered the Chicken & Fried Shrimp Basket with the standard fries. I could have chosen coleslaw instead, and in hindsight I probably should have since I'm not much of a fry person. But the real star here is the fried food. Both the chicken and shrimp were cooked perfectly--crispy, golden, and packed with crunch in every bite without being greasy. I'm also a huge sauce fan, so I had to sample a few. I tried the ranch, garlic Parmesan, and Nad's Sauce. The clear winner for me was the garlic Parmesan. It was absolutely delicious and paired perfectly with both the chicken and the shrimp. The service was just as impressive as the food. The staff was incredibly friendly, took the time to walk us through the menu, and checked on us several times throughout our meal. Since you order at the counter and then find a seat, that extra attention really stood out and made us feel welcome. Great food, great service, and a place I'll definitely be coming back to!

The lady that helped me out let me know that since I was torn between the Swai and catfish I could do one of each. She was so helpful and sweet, loved her energy! Both of my fish were cooked perfectly and I like the nice crunch to them when I first bit in, both fish were extremely juicy. I do wish that she told me the catfish was going to have a stronger fish taste to it though , I guess they told my brother that when he came in last. I typically don't mind the fishier catfish taste, as I grew up eating catfish, but I will say theirs is a bit stronger than I typically like. Swai was bomb though. I do enjoy the fact that they season the fish after it being fried as well, I think that's a great touch. The shrimp that came with my combo was well battered and seasoned but I personally expected a larger size shrimp, and they were smaller. No worries though. Oh we also really enjoyed the shape of their fries that came with the lunch basket it was interesting. My spouse said he enjoyed the Wings which were pretty generous in size, but he wished he would have gotten them dried instead of wet. He thought the sauce was a bit much. Whatever that means lol All in all great fish and chips, killer music and nice atmosphere.

Tucked back in a small building, just off Southern Avenue, you'll find Southern Fried. It is a small little walk in store front, so plan ahead to order out. We went ahead and ordered online to make things simple and easy. As shown on their building and advertised they show they serve Jamaican food so I was pretty let down when I looked at the menu to discover they do not have any Jamaican food. Seeing pictures of previous Yelp reviews of jerk chicken and oxtail left me bummed. We ended up ordering the fried okra, fried mushrooms, the 2 fish and 5 shrimp combo, along with the fried catfish and fries. We took our food to go and headed home, just around the corner. Once opening the containers i instantly got excited about the mushrooms. Anyone that knows me knows i am mushroom obsessed. With a quick dip in the ranch that came with and popping one into my mouth.... Yummmm! The okra was a bit of a miss. It seems they were still a bit slimy. Moving along to our main courses, I was disappointed to find that our fish was packed on top of our fries and the fries were very limp, soggy and unseasoned. I think packing the takeout differently could easily eliminate this issue. The catfish and shrimp were seasoned to perfection. They both had a perfect blend of spice and a light and crispy batter. I would love to see Jamaican food on the menu, as the advertising is a bit deceptive. Overall I would definitely be willing to try them again and would love to give one of their burgers a taste test.
