What a lovely little tea shop. It is a bit hidden away, a few doors down from Food City, tucked into an alcove between stores. My daughter and I came on a Sunday at noon for an afternoon tea and were seated right away in the garden themed room by Christian. He explained the menu and the expansive tea list (SO many options and well-organized and explained via menu). He mentioned that an afternoon tea experience typically lasts around 1.5 hours. My daughter ordered the Picnic at the World's Fair kid tea experience and I got the Old City Socie-Tea. We ended up waiting about 35-40 minutes to receive our tea but after that, the scone and finger food courses rolled out quickly. The scone (with clotted cream, preserves, and lemon curd) was incredible. The scone was fresh, warm and incredibly soft and crumbly. It was even heart shaped! As for the savory sandwiches and bites:The chopped ham sandwich my daughter liked a lot, but she did not care for the cheese sandwich, which was a stacked slice of sticky, and slightly sweet American cheese. I liked the mozzarella and sun-dried tomato bite, the deviled egg, and the cucumber sandwich. I did not enjoy the chicken salad, which was very celery and onion heavy on an unfortunately stale croissant. I do with that we were given the option of mix and match for finger sandwiches. There were a few other items that I couldn't determine what they were. I would have loved a description card or quick walkthrough as to what was on each tray. We both loved the pastry bites dessert option. The brownie, raspberry cheesecake, and the lemon tart were so tasty! Aside from the experience aspect of the tea service, I loved seeing the staff interact with regulars and treat them as family. The manager was greeting and checking in with each table which is a nice touch. There are conversation cards on each table for tech-free chats and we also loved the special touch of the heart shaped sugar cubes. Had an amazing time at the Krakens cup! Everything was so pretty. You get to pick your seat based on the teacup you like best. We each got tea and a plate to share. It is a bit pricey but I think that's what's expected with this type of experience. It's best to make a reservation so they can be prepared for you. My first Yelp review is inspired by an adventure that led me to The Kraken's Cup. This is a heartwarming and inspiring tale though it is not without its troubles (and it is quite long but I hope you'll find it worth the read). Our story begins with a bad day that just seemed to keep getting worse. Our hero (me, hi) decided to go out and procure a little treat in order to feel comforted in a way only a good cup of tea could accomplish. What better place than to The Kraken's Cup? Our hero had never been and was interested in a takeout order. On the drive over, our hero's journey took a turn for the worse. It was around rush hour which meant Road Ragers were abound. Our hero mistakenly offended the delicate senses of one of these dastardly creatures and took a golf ball to the side of their sedan! Once our hero made it to The Kraken's Cup they were quite distressed and distraught and, on the way in, nearly considered turning back. But no! Our hero was persistent. And thankfully too, for as soon as they entered The Kraken's Cup, all their worries began to melt away. The little rectangle of modern rentable space The Kraken's Cup resides in has been transformed into a lovely getaway from the outside world. The leafy decorations, antique wooden furniture, and bright pops of blue (or red, seemingly dependent on which side of the tea house you are on) all come together to create a welcoming, playful, and soothing environment. The old-timey music that played over the speakers was romantic and nostalgic in such a way that one could not ever be too miserable in such a place. Our hero began to settle in and asked the lovely host, Elizabeth, if the take out order they originally came for could become a sit down experience. From there, our hero ordered The Power "T"ea, consisting of a scone (that came with mock clotted cream, honey, and apricot jam--all very delicious) and tea (our hero originally chose Blackbeard's Treasure which they unfortunately were out of--Elizabeth swooped in with a clear knack and knowledge for tea and suggested the Irish Rum which was quite lovely, sweet, and fruity in a way that reminded our hero of bananas which they told Elizabeth. Elizabeth then boasted an impressive knowledge of bananas that astounded and amazed our hero, who may return if only to discover what else she knows). At this point, our hero is feeling much better. They began to feel thankful for the Road Rager and his golf ball projectile if only because it revealed to our hero the true healing power of a cup of tea. Our hero is beginning to think this experience can't get much better until Elizabeth, with a delightful trick up her sleeve, brings out a dish of The Kraken's Cup very own strawberries and cream! Our hero thanks Elizabeth profusely and then heartily digs in to what turned out to be their favorite part of it all. Strawberries and cream? More like strawberries and dreams... because it's so good.. it's like a dream... get it? Heh. Anyway. The narrator struggles to figure out how to wrap up this yelp review. This was one of the top 5 high tea experiences I've had so far. Our server, Kenzie, was absolutely amazing. She had every single tea on the menu memorized along with their numbers and they have over 80 of them. She was so bubbly and kind and made the whole experience even better. The decor was quirky and cute. It had a traditional feel to it. The food was ok, it wasn't my favorite but the berries and cream dessert and the tea's were so good! I ordered about 90 minutes ago and my tea is now cold, I'm freezing under the too cold AC and half our party got served 15 minutes ago, so there's no excuse for the neglect. I never write bad reviews, and feel really bad for this one, but it needs to be said. First, I made a reservation specifically for the type of service we wanted so I assumed (yeah, I know) the kitchen would be prepared for six services when we arrived. I didn't expect it to be ready when we arrived, but I did expect them to be prepared for us. When the information read it would be 1.5 hours or longer, I didn't think twice because a normal tea service lasts that long. I didn't expect that we would wait an hour and a half for food. Second, the food was not very good at all. The best thing we had was the cucumber sandwich. I'm not picky and have been to many teas. We ended up ordering four services because the server told us usually people share one. With four, we received two tiers which meant everyone at the table didn't get to try everything on the service. Usually there is one of everything for each person. I will say the scone with the cream and jams was good. Finally, the service was subpar. The food took so long, we drank all our tea and were charged for more. I've never been to a tea service where we were charged for more tea. We had to ask for cream - (not cream, milk). We never got plates to put our food on. We even had to ask for water refills. It felt like the server was hiding from us. We went for my sister's birthday, and I told them ahead of time it was her birthday and nothing was done or said about her birthday. read more

This was such a great experience. It was really nice to have a change of pace with a more traditional, formal tea service where life slowed down a bit and our group could truly relax. The time commitment is clearly communicated, and honestly, that's part of what makes the experience special. Formal tea is meant to be unhurried, and my sister--who has attended traditional afternoon tea in England--said this felt very similar. It was refreshing to step away from the usual fast-paced, instant-gratification world and take our time enjoying each round of food and tea. The ambience is warm and welcoming, and you can tell a lot of thought went into every detail of the space. I have had the pleasure of experiencing the vast tea offerings of this establishment at least 6 times thus far. Every visit has been pleasant and delightful. The servers have all consistently been well educated on the tea varieties and have always been very attentive to my needs. For those unfamiliar with the process, full tea service does take at least 1 1/2-3 hours. The beauty of that is being able to connect with your companion/s and spend quality time with them. No companions? Perfect time to delve into that book that's been sitting in your to be read pile all year. While he said he was only working on 30% capacity, he was really on top of all of our orders. While he did accidentally mess up on one of our teas, he quickly fixed it right away. I was thrilled to find out that we have a tea room in Knoxville! I've been missing out. I went with a group to celebrate my friend's birthday, and we had a wonderful time. My GPS was kind of vague about the location, but it's to the right of the Harbour Freight back behind a plaza in the strip mall. I think the overall vibe of the place is attention to detail--The space has two sides; we were seated in a library/adventurer's club/steampunk area, and the other side looked more like a fairy garden with blue sky and clouds painted on the walls. There is a lot of detail and thought in the decor, it was fun to look around! They even make their sugar cubes into colorful shapes and have them available for purchase. They have a great selection of teas, including offerings like lapsang souchong that are out of the ordinary, as well as more popular options like chai. Nemo was our server, and he did a great job telling us about the teas and answering questions/making recommendations. He checked in on us exactly the right amount and was generally a delight. We all got the Marble Ci-tea, which included a pot of tea, a scone with fixings, a small fruit and cheese plate (which was perfect for the diabetics in our group to offset some of the carbs), and the standard tiny sandwiches and pastries. I loved that they had tea pot cozies to keep our tea warm. For the main event, we had ham salad sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches, pimento cheese hummus (which was a universal hit), chicken salad in a bread spoon, goat cheese with a sun-dried tomato garnish, deviled tea eggs (my Chinese-American college roommate introduced me to tea eggs, and I was so excited to see them incorporated into afternoon tea!), a double chocolate cake bite, macarons, mini lemon tarts, shortbread cookies, and a berries and cream dessert; generally you have to pick between pastries and the berries and cream, but with so many of us they brought a little of everything and we shared. We were all very full by the end and couldn't finish everything, although I'm sure they would let you take home whatever you don't eat (we didn't have that much left to justify a box). They did offer to-go cups for the tea we didn't finish. It was a lovely, leisurely experience (maybe two hours?), and we never felt rushed. I've only been for tea and a scone and to purchase some loose-leaf tea so far, but I had a wonderful time. I'm a tea person and a little bit of a cynic, so I have to admit my expectations were a little wobbly when I ventured into the nook of a Fountain City shopping center/strip mall to find an alleged tearoom. I went in with a vague idea of seeing if I could buy some loose-leaf tea, scope out the place for me and a friend to possibly go back to, and get one of the few drinks I've seen sold by the cup. That plan was doomed. And thank goodness it was. Instead, I entered, was greeted by the most kind, enthusiastic server, and saw a space lovingly decorated on one side in the style of a cozy, Victorian-inspired library and the other side in a whimsical, fairies and Wonderland aesthetic. All of the tables were set with the most beautiful teacups and saucers. I wanted to be holding a beautiful teacup in a cozy library/Wonderland, darn it! So, I was seated. The server was extremely helpful in navigating the options. I hadn't come in with lunch on the mind, but a teapot and a scone ended up being the perfect amount for one person enjoying a slow weekend afternoon. The expansive menu was fun to peruse as a tea lover. I narrowed down my options then asked the server for some recommendations along those selections. The tea itself was delicious; I got the Irish Cream that day since it was something different from my norm, still a black tea, and backed up by the server as well. The scone was warm, buttery, and crumbly, and it was served with three accompaniments: lemon curd, apricot jam, and clotted cream. With my specific tea, the lemon curd was best, but I'm a clotted cream gal in general. All were tasty. Scone and teapot in hand, I spent the next hour or so...just existing. I visited Kraken's Cup Tearoom Saturday December 20, 2025. NOT the experience I expected or would recommend, especially with the reviews I had read. With a reservation, it was over 30 minutes before our tea order was taken, and another 40 minutes before the lukewarm, weak tea arrived. The server Christian explained he had multiple tables to wait on, they were out of egg and chicken salad, at which time I wish our party would have left. It was 1.5 hours after being seated to take our order. Christian recommended ordering the premium menu option for the "full experience". Not sure what the full experience would have been with the reduced options. The ham sandwiches were not finger-sized as a standard tearoom would serve, plus they ran out of tomatoes. (Food City is 2 doors down) We expressed our disappointment to Christian about the wait, service as well as the limited food choices. Christian spoke to the owner and manager, returned stating "we treat everyone fairly" and there was nothing they could do. Disappointing the owner and/or manager would not talk with us. I LOVE THIS PLACE. First of all, the location is a little hidden, it's in the small plaza nook thing between food city/harbor freight and the sports store/big lots on Broadway. Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about Knoxville's newest and best tea shop!! Kraken's Cup has a super adorable aesthetic, with one side of the restaurant decorated like a library with art from all over the world, and the other looks like a cute little underwater grotto. They are operating on a limited menu until their grand opening in a couple weeks and I'm very pleased so far. The best deal in my opinion is the Power Tea, which is a pot of tea and a scone for $7. There's nothing quite like having time to just sit down and enjoy some tea and a snack. The mock clotted cream, lemon curd, and jam of the day (I've had cherry, apricot, and one more that I can't remember) are surprisingly filling. For $29, you can get The Old City Socie-Tea, which includes the pot of tea, little bread pudding bite, scone, and a tower of treats. I found it quite filling but those with a bigger appetite might be a little disappointed at the quantity. The deviled egg was delicious and the ham sandwich- to die for! I wasn't crazy about the chicken salad on the pie spoon but oh well. You can also choose between tiny pastries and berries and cream for dessert. I'm a tiny pastry gal. For $5 more, you can get The Marble City Tea, which is the same as the Old City but with a cheese and fruit plate added. While the cheese and fruit was delicious, I don't think I will order it again. They have some lunch options that I look forward to trying, like full sized sandwiches and salads, looks like their prices range from $8-$14. The staff here is an absolute delight to talk with, I have never had a server I didn't enjoy speaking to! They also sell little passports to earn stamps every time you order a pot of tea and you can review each tea you try. I think you get something when it is all finished. The Kraken's Cup has become a regular go to for my family. When we have visitors, or even a friend of a friend that was moving to Knoxville, this is where we take them. The ambiance is spot on for both the garden side and the library of an adventures club. While we wait for our tea, because each tea takes a specific time and water temp to steep, we love to wander the library looking at the items on the shelves. We always find something new. We usually get the Ploughman's Lunch, with a scone side order, or The Marble Ci-Tea. I love the egg salad. We also love trying new teas and happily get our tea Passport stamped so we can remember what we had for future tea adventures. Not long ago we attended an event at The Kraken's Cup. It was a class to repaint precious moment statues into something scary. We had a blast! We also had a delicious cookie and tried several really good teas. If you have food sensitivities or allergies the online reservation scheduling form asks. We also mention it when we order, because we are all human. I have both, an allergy and sensitivites, and have only ever had one issue, that was handled quickly. As soon as my husband noticed an item was different and let the server know, the plate was gone and a replacement was brought to me. This is part of why we take friends there, we know that things will be handled quickly. I was once made very ill at a Disney World, Magic Kingdom restaurant. Not once at the Kraken's Cup. Does the experience take time? Yes. This is a tea room. Each tea has specific steep times and water temperature needs to make sure the tasting experience is the very best. I grew up going to tea rooms all around the world. Having tea is about the slowing down and enjoying each piece of the experience. I had one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had at this tea room and it unfortunately happened on my birthday. From the moment we arrived, the service was chaotic. Our waitress seemed completely scatterbrained and disappeared shortly after seating us, claiming an "emergency." No one even noticed our table was unattended for over 30 minutes, until we flagged someone down for help. Once we did, our new waitress had no idea what we even ordered. When our tea finally arrived after a 45 min wait, it was cold. Not lukewarm, not room temp. COLD. As if it had been sitting out for ages. Another 30 minutes later, we received what they called a "cheese and fruit tray," which was laughable: one small triangle of brie, three grapes, and two crackers. Almost 40 minutes after that, the rest of the food showed up: two finger sandwiches (one tuna, one chicken), two tiny cupcakes, and two macaroons. When I inquired about what is taking so long, the response was "we have to make things from scratch". WHAT in the world could warrant something taking that long? For the tea experience this and the price we paid, this was an absolute joke. The food itself was bland, uninspired, and honestly disgusting. To make matters worse, the tea policy is bizarre. At most tea rooms, you get unlimited tea served in small pots. Here? One pot per person. One member of our group did get the unlimited tea option, and the staff made them feel completely uncomfortable about it by repeatedly asking, "Are you planning to share?" and "Are you sure? Because you're not supposed to." It was rude, unnecessary, and made the whole experience feel awkward. In over two hours, not one staff member checked in to ask how things were, offer a refill, or make sure we were doing okay. There were only two other guests in the whole place..how is it possible the service was this disorganized? This was an absolute letdown. Not worth the money, not worth the time, and definitely not the experience I was hoping for. I will not be coming back, and I'll be warning my friends and family to stay far away. What a complete disappointment! Listen to the other reviews saying the same thing about time, staff and food quality. I didn't believe it and wish I didn't spend 100+ dollars here. The Kraken's cup is so incredibly special. I have taken my mom here. I have taken my daughter here and I've taken friends here. It's such a unique experience and the food is so delicious. I dream of the chicken salad. I joined the passport club so that I can make myself get a different tea every time I go and I have since become obsessed with tea. There are over 80 on the menu, but don't worry there is a paired down section to get you started. The staff is so friendly and the owner is amazing! My daughter loves to get the kids service and it's the only time I think she actually eats all of her food. Love this place! Went today with 5 other ladies to celebrate a birthday. They were doing a special today for $29 per person where $10 goes to charity, and you get your choice of tea, a full-sized sandwich, a deviled egg, a small side of cucumber salad, and a scone with cream/lemon curd/jam. It was delicious!! I got an egg salad sandwich on white bread, and the Mayan chocolate tea, which was chocolate & chili-flavored....yum! We sat in the "library room," which is super cute and cozy with books all around. Bonus- the table has little cards on it with "conversation questions," like, "have you ever broken up with a FRIEND, and if so, why?" and, "why do you think it's important to be aware of your thoughts and feelings?" and we had so much fun discussing it all:) If you haven't given this place a try, give it a try! read more

It should have been an interesting place but it wasn't. Apparently they are not ready to manage the amount of people they claim. Make a reservation or you will ve turned back, even if they are below half capacity. This place is waaaay overpriced read more

Food is overpriced for the quantity and level of quality you get, and the service is too slow. We were there for almost 3 hours. Underwhelmed by the experience. The ambiance of the garden room appears cheap and unfinished. Paint job is poor. I understand they recently opened and hopefully they will learn and improve with time. I wish them well. read more

EXCELLENT food , service and atmosphere! HIGHLY recommended!! Greeted quickly at the door. Server knowledgable about vast numbers of tea offerings, and the pace was nice and slow, as a REAL tea shop is SUPPOSED to be. A tea room visit is an event, not a fast food drive through. A lot of people make that mistake. read more
