We spent an overnight near Knoxville and when we searched for a coffee house we landed on Awaken Coffee. The vibe is very cool; laid back and comfortable. I ordered a standard hot latte no added flavor just 2% milk. What I got was a full bodied, rich and smooth cup of coffee. The roast has no bitterness. Very enjoyable. My wife asked for something sweet hot and they recommended a latte with honey and cayenne. It was just right. Kick of heat and not too sweet. A surprising star of our visit was an apple tart! It paired so well with our coffees. It was fresh and a nice balance of crisp tart and warm apple. We also brought one of our dogs with us and Awaken is very pet friendly. There was also another pet owner chilling at a nearby table. Great stop. We highly recommend Awaken if you are in the area. Be advised that parking is paid in the area. read more

This was my last stop in Knoxville for some fuel before I went home. This is a cute little coffeeshop in a scenic part of town. It has nice large windows that overlook the street and seems like a great place to hang out and get some work done. Parking is a little bit of a struggle but it's to be expected in a denser area like this. I got their speciality honey bear latte iced. It was prepared quickly and was super yummy! The cinnamon and honey flavor was sweet and strong and it had a great ratio of coffee to milk. Would happily order again! My one complaint is service was kind of...icy? I dunno, the barista never approached or asked if I had any questions and just generally gave the vibe that she'd rather not be helping me. Came here on a busy Saturday afternoon when the Vols were playing at home. Loved the quick and friendly service from the barista up front. I got my usual, which is a cappuccino and an almond flavor shot. I like the variety of flavor shots that they have available here. I took a seat at the window, and enjoyed my perfect cup. Even though Awaken was full of happy customers, the noise level was not bad at all and I can see how this would be the perfect spot to sit with a book or get some work done on your laptop. I loved the rustic brick interior of Awaken and how the coffee shop is fairly big inside; giving customers several seat options. Besides drinks, they did have a few baked goods options including blueberry muffins and lemon chess bars. Next time, I definitely want to try the honey bear latte along with their lemon chess bars and am already getting excited for my return visit. read more

Went to grab coffee while near by. I ordered a iced vanilla honey latte w cinnamon. Perfect portions of each ingredient- not too sweet espresso wasnt bitter and perfect amount of milk. Intresting to find this was also a church in the back of the coffee shop- I guess "awaken" kind of hits all areas as intended. Cute quiet spot to do virtual work and grab a Coffee. Whenever we are in Old City, I always pass this shop and look longingly into the windows because it is always closed in the evenings. I finally got a chance to stop in and it was worth the wait! What a cool historic building with the exposed brick and steel and the space goes much farther back than anticipated, including a large event space that doubles as a church space in the back. There are small tables galore, a few cozy chat spaces, a large table in a more secluded area in back, and a small room upstairs with a conference room vibe (and a whiteboard). While the menu may look basic, the unique flavorings add some pizzazz to whatever drink you order. This time around, I was hot and wanted a simple iced cold brew (with oat milk) and it was tasty and smooth with chocolate notes. I would definitely come back and try an espresso drink and a flavoring. Note that the parking is a bit tricky in this area but worth the search. read more

Very cute coffee shop, there was lots of place to work and hang out. The menu is kind of hard to understand as it lacks details but I recommend the honey bear latte. It is a 10 out of 10 with cinnamon honey and vanilla notes. Will definitely be coming back here!! Awaken is worth the 25 minute drive for me. This environment inside the quaint lil' coffee shop is so peaceful. When I want to bring a friend or be alone (but around other people) this is where I go! If you're a person who only goes to Starbucks for the sweet coffee, this is your spot. They have such a wide selection of flavors you can not only play with, but also have it on their menu. I'm more of a sweet gal and prefer getting my caffeine from matcha green tea and chai tea, but they make it SO well. My favorite of theirs will forever be the matcha rose iced latte with oat milk. It's like a dream, and they had me coming back for an entire week after that. I feel like Awaken Coffee may be the most slept on coffee shop in Knoxville. Folks default to one or another, but I feel like folks forget about Awaken. This a fun spot in the downtown Knoxville area. It's in an old historic building with great wood floors that creak when you walk. They can make any drink you can imagine and I got a delicious iced Irish Cream Breve. This is a great place to grab a drink and work or study.
