Wonderful place. Ladies are very nice and they have a pretty sizable selection of shades, but the metals on the shades are limited to gold or silver. Not all lumps have those types of metal which make matching them a little difficult. The building is. Dry old and shabby, but don't hold that against them. I will certainly be back to look for more shade options if I ever get a lamp where the metals would coincide with gold or silver. Parking is easy! I took my antique rod Iron Lamp into their shop to be re wired one day. I just received a call from after 2.5 weeks stating they couldn't re wire it. Then spent several days trying to pick it up from them as they have crazy erratic operating hours....opens at 11 am ...in the morning closed during the week. Who operates a business like that? I recently purchased my grandmother's vintage lamp at an auction and it arrived at my house in pieces. I took it to The Lamp Place for repair. The owner did an amazing job! He called me to explain that the damage was more extensive than we first thought and he quoted me an extremely reasonable price to make the repairs. It was ready the next day! When I went to the store, the woman who assisted me asked if I also needed a shade for it. Duh- of course - why didn't I think of that? The Lamp Place has an incredible selection of all kinds of shades in all kinds of materials and shapes. She assisted me in finding one that was just right. We also chose two decorative specialty LED bulbs to lamp it. I went home with a completed project! I'm now a true fan and hope to spread the word about this excellent store. read more

Super expensive and didn't find what we were looking for. They did have a lot of choices but was way overpriced

We've had a hard time getting a very beautiful floor lamp repaired. We got it at Lazy Boy three years ago and loved it. However it was accidentally knocked down and still worked but looked off balance, like a lamp in the "house that Jack built." Also, the shade kept tipping at a weird angle. I called the Lazy Boy sales person who directed me to the Lazy Boy distribution and repair center in Rock Hill, where a representative said the lamp was no longer being produced; they didn't know if they could get the parts. But, they "might be able to fix it" if I produced the repair parts. Of course I had no idea what parts would be needed. The Lazy Boy repair center would charge $75 (as per the rep) to take a look. That didn't sound too promising, especially after I called the manufacturer and couldn't get a live person to talk to me about parts. Instead, today my husband and I traveled to The Lamp Place, about 45 minutes from home. We walked in the door, and had the lamp repaired in 15 minutes for the price of a shade and a harp. Alysa, the repair technician, professionally adjusted the part that received the new harp. No $75 service fee, no wait time, no traveling back again days later - only kind and competent service. And now our very expensive lamp looks as it should, no longer bent and funky looking. As my husband says, they do one thing and do it VERY well. (They do sell gorgeous lamps too!) I love The Lamp Place, and I have been going there since I moved to Charlotte 25 years ago. I bought a beautiful antique floor lamp from them when we first moved here. Unfortunately, it got badly damaged in our recent move. As I was unloading it from my car, a nice young man came up to me to tell me that they closed at 3:00. Having driven all the way up there just to drop off the lamp to be repaired, I was terribly disappointed that they were closed. However, he kindly took the time to asses the lamp and advised me not to spend my money trying to fix it (because, even with his best efforts, he could not guarantee that it would ever be totally vertical again.) As sad as I am to see the lamp go, I appreciated his honest assessment. Even more, I appreciated his willingness to stop and talk to me way after their new closing time. Make sure you check their new hours (they're different than what's listed above!) They're still worth the extra drive for repairs, shades... or even a new lamp when the store is open! read more

I bought a $5. lamp at Goodwill. It is an exquisite lamp with lots of brass and lots of marble and lots of gold shimmer. I have been told that it probably came out of the sixties. It looks to me like it came from a very wealthy old estate somewhere. Anyway, it needed a new shade. So, off I went to the Lamp Place. A young guy with big holes in his ears greeted me when I walked in and helped me find the perfect shade. He was helpful as he grabbed a variety of shapes and sizes and colors. We played with the height of the shade and looked at new finials, etc. I settled on a drum shade in an off white and it compliments the lamp perfectly. What was so much fun is that there were many customers in the store when I was there. Each one of them had their own opinion about what I should do with this lamp. I ended up going with the consensus of the group, which was way better than what I was going to select by myself. The lamp shade was expensive as all get out ($86), but I suppose I will have this lamp until I leave this earth. So, it was okay to spend some money on the shade. Besides, I still had less than $100. invested in both the lamp and the shade, which was a bargain of a lifetime - based on the quality of it all. Pat on the back for me. I had been to The Lamp Place several times over the years & had repairs done and purchased shades as well as accessories. However, had an awful experience this past Sat. - both sales people totally disrespectful (not a 'hello' - 'how can I help' - not even a smile') It seemed that it was an inconvenience that I had stepped in. I just came back from experiencing the best customer service I have enjoyed in a long time! I work in a nonprofit and one lamp out of a set of two had gone out. We replaced the bulb but it still did not work. Hoping that the cost of a repair was less than two "new" ones from a thrift store, I went to The Lamp Place and Kathy was behind the front desk. She screwed in a bulb and it worked! Life Pro Tip: LED bulbs do not work in dimmer lamps. I asked how much for the bulb and Kathy said she would donate to our organization. They could have taken advantage of our ignorance but, instead, they became our hero. Thank you, The Lamp Place. Undoubtedly, the most expensive repair place I've ever been to. I took in a small chandelier to have it rewired for the sole purpose of adding length and to add a corresponding length chain. This cost me $69, which was $25 in parts and $40 for labor. Forty dollars for labor!?! This repair could not have taken an hour but I guess that $40 is a flat fee to do anything. Additionally I was told that if the fixture needed to have any sockets replaced it would have been much more. That was nice to hear. Bottom line....they will never again get my business. read more
