Eat like a local ..... We were in the area "lead peeping"..... we normally would have eaten in town, but several of the places we already closed for the season. ANYWAY- we stopped in with little expectations and were blown away. Huge sandwiches at more that reasonable prices. The service was fast , friendly and exactly what we wanted. I just had a lobster roll, as they were running a special on them. It was plentiful and what was different, is that they asked about how I wanted it prepared. Most places just give you a lobster roll, without any customer input. The staff was friendly and accommodatin. This place has come so far!! When the new owner took over, she really ran with it! They make tons of different sandwiches for both breakfast and lunch. You can call and order ahead or they have a warmer with prepared sandwiches ready to go. They serve breakfast all day long! The store is well maintained and isn't cluttered or messy. They have baked goods and gluten free items as well! They have peanut butter bombs and lava cakes. A wide variety of beverages and a small deli like counter where you can order all kinds of things. They sell loose lobster meat, and desserts. They sell coffee and tea. The owner has really made this place the place to swing in before work. She's always polite and engaging and if you want something she doesn't have, and she can make it, she most certainly will. She's wonderful. The store is a must check out! We've always said...the hole in the wall places are the best. I've had 2 real Maine Lobster Rolls this week. The first one has won awards and is in magazines as one of the best in the U.S. This one was recommended to us by a local (Marina) we met on the beach. This one was $12 cheaper and though the other was very good...this one took the blue ribbon for me! And the ones working were very welcoming! The parking drew us in with our RV! Most of the surrounding area forbids RV parking via signage. This is a fairly typical convenience store but they are making lobsta rolls in the back! The bun was warmed nicely and the lobster was fresh! read more

Unfortunately, we had a terrible experience at the Landing Store. We had to deal with one employee, who happenned to be making the sandwiches. Upon entry, we were immediately faced with what seemed like a disgruntled employee, who wanted to close up and go home. However, it was not near closing time! In ordering a simple grilled chicken and explaining what we wanted on it, we had a hunch that what we ordered and what we received was going to be quite different....and BINGO...we were correct. When I (not we) re-entered the store after realizing that the wrong sandwich was prepared, I returned to the back of the store to explain that what we ordered and what we received were two different things. The employee took the sandwich, looked at it and threw it in the barrel. When that happenned, I returned to the register to speak to a very nice gentleman to explain that I wanted my money back. He was very understanding and without hesitation, gave me the 9 + dollars back. I hope that no one else has to run in to this type of situation, because it stinks to feel like you are asking an employee to go out of his/her way to make something that you want to eat! never again! My 5 star rating is for their whoopie pies. They are the best I've ever had! Moist cake and excellent filling, especially the blueberry. They also had several types of muffins (looked great, but we didn't try them) and a few other fresh baked goods. Tried the lobster roll. It was just plain lobster meat - no condiments or seasoning detected. The place is a combination of a deli, bakery, and convenience store, which I think is pretty convenient. read more

The owner, or at least person working there is incredibly rude. I came and looked at the door and did not see a "no pets" sign. So, I walked in with my dog. The store clerk ran up to me and yelled "Ma'am you cannot have a dog in here!!" I explained to him that I didn't want to leave him in my car because I was afraid he'd jump out. (It's a convertible). I didn't want to put the top and windows up as it was hot out, but I went out and did that. I came back in to pay for my food, and told him that if he didn't want dogs, he should put up a sign. He yelled in my face again "It's common sense Ma"am!!" First of all I don't appreciate being called Ma'am. I'm not that old. Second, he could've said all of this nicely, but chose not to. I told him that there are plenty of places in Kennebunk that allow dogs and that it's NOT common sense. I said put up a sign. It's common sense. Too bad. I still have many items to try here, but they make a great sandwich. I've tried The Schooner, Galleon, and the Yawl. The former comes with ham, turkey, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. It has great flavor, and the bacon was perfect. He latter has ham, bacon, egg salad, and lettuce. This makes for an amazing flavor, that's for sure. They also make a wicked awesome whoopie pie. It gets a little sticky, but it's well worth it. Breakfast sandwiches are also good here. They usually have a few ready, or you can order one made on the fly. The service is also friendly, so you can't beat that. If you are planning on lunch, go early/late, unless you don't mind waiting a few. I'm sure calling ahead would work out, too. Just go here. Second time here. Lobster rolls are very good with a lot of meat, but also very pricey. Last time I got the egg salad which was decent-a bit bland though. The bread is good. Soft and not too big. This time I got the cranberry walnut chicken salad. It was very mayonnaisey & pretty sweet. Almost like a sweet pickle flavor. Not my favorite at all. I frequented TLS before Yelp existed when I lived in Kennebunk and recently went back after over a decade. It's still fantastic and truly one of the best sandwich shops in the area, albeit off the proverbial beaten path. Meh. Lapin and I came here for their famous "huge lobster roll" from a suggestion of a local travel agent who said "locals love this place". The deli was located in the middle of nowhere and we would have almost missed if it not for the sign. Upon arrival, the store was empty except for the three employees (they were not very friendly and the cashier kept playing with his phone) who worked there. We got the large lobster roll ($32.39 including tax), which was filled with lobster meat. However, the bread was dry and the lobster roll was just meat with no flavoring, salt, black pepper, mayo or even butter. It was plain, dry and disappointing. The large is good for two people which was around 8 inches along. The store has a couple of tables outside for you to eat along with 6 or so parking spaces. read more

Went there with my parents and we each got one of the huge lobster rolls. It was around $77 for the three rolls and we were not impressed at all. They were definitely large and filling with lots of meat, but it was just lobster meat on thick, dry bread. There was no mayonnaise or option to have it warm with butter. If you are looking for a good lobster roll, I recommend going to the Ocean Roll food truck on Portland Road when it is open in the summer. Located in the middle of nowhere, I can honestly say that this is not worth the drive. I came here to check out their "huge lobster roll", and yes, the lobster roll was huge but it was certainly not worth all the hype. The lobster itself was flavorless and my roll which was supposed to be "toasted" came out burnt. The store was empty when I arrived besides the three employees, who weren't very pleasant. The deli offers other sandwiches that sounded appealing, but I would not return due to the poor service and their tasteless lobster roll. It was not worth the $22 and change. Word of advice, go to Sanborn's which is a ten minute drive away or even Shain's in Sanford. Much better quality and more affordable. read more

OMG! Absolutely amazing lobster rolls! We took a day trip on Columbus Day to see fall foliage. It was late this year. This was one of the only places open that day. It did not disappoint! They are to Mabels or the Clam Shack what the Keag Store in Thomaston is to Watermans Beach- if you are on the inside of lobster roll culture, you'll know what I am talking about. When I walked in I almost decided to buy a soda and bail. They have a deli that lets you choose all kinds of fun ingredients for your "panini." It is a panino and they are panini. I decided to go for it and they had a small lobster roll for a paltry $10.99. I was worried about the lobster salad since I noticed they had a bin of it in the deli case with some plastic wrap over it, possibly prepared days in advance. I was hoping it was for the people that buy a container of it at $29 per pound. I actually don't know what they charge per pound - I digress. The roll was passed across the counter suffocating in snug plastic wrap like it was about to go into a grab & go cooler. I was instantly disheartened. I paid and then proceeded to photograph on the hood of my truck. I needed to unwrap before the plastic wrap made any crispiness in the grilled roll go soft. I was not prepared for the first bite. This might be the best roll I've have in 5 years. I couldn't believe it. The meat was juicy, tender, and sweet. There was just enough mayo to bind and lightly coat- no more, no less. Congratulations Landing Store - you are in the Pantheon. I don't know what the hype is?? Stopped by because I wanted to try the Huge Lobster roll, and was very unsatisfied. The sandwich was a nice size (24$) but lacked flavor and mayo. There was literally nothing on the bread besides lobster pieces. Sandwich was not put together well at all. A plus is that there was a generous amount of lobster, but was dry and unenjoyable.
