The wait times outweigh any food reviews. This place has been a staple for us but no longer. We waited 45 minutes for 2 sandwiches. The staff is doing the best the can -- it just doesn't appear they are set up very well to serve the business. Just a heads-up for locals and visitors shopping at Cape Porpoise Kitchen in Kennebunkport. Today I picked up a premade chicken salad sandwich clearly marked with a price sticker showing "$12" and a sell-by date of 5/21. When I got to the register, I was told the sandwich was actually $15 because "the computer price had gone up" and they "hadn't gotten around to changing the prices yet." I pointed out that the package itself literally had "$12" printed on it with a dollar sign. The cashier acknowledged the sticker said $12 but still insisted I had to pay $15 because the register price overrode the labeled price. I understand mistakes happen, but if an item is labeled one price and customers are charged another at checkout, that's not acceptable. People should pay close attention to what they're being charged, especially for premade foods and grab-and-go items. There are plenty of local places around here that still believe in fair pricing and honoring the price marked on the product. I know where I'll be spending my money going forward. read more

The counter person with the nose ring and curly light brown hair purposely ignored us (as they weren't bz) until exactly 6:30 and then told us they couldn't make hot sandwiches after 6:30.... So very sad. Our gem...CP Kitchen.. is losing its appeal very quickly. i am a long term summer resident of CP--25 plus years. Were not many days we didn't make our way there for lunch, breakfast or dinner to go. It was always top quality. I ordered my favorite River Club sandwich for second time recently. First time they forgot the bacon and the amount of mayonnaise made everything soggy. Very little turkey. Then I ordered a BLT the other day. They have definitely downgraded the bacon--amount and type. In addition they used the heal --stale heal of the bread in one side! i have more to say but suffice it that it has sadly gone downhill. read more

I rate this a 4.5. There are tons of good food options and dessert options. The staff was very nice, I ordered for a pickup and it took 10 minutes. By the time I got there it was ready to go. Very nice and hard working staff. I got the river club, food was very fresh and tasty to the mouth. Only problem I had today was the amount of meat they put in my club. I lived in Maine for 2 years and didn't discover this place until I came back to visit last month and I am so upset I haven't been here sooner. I got the Torino panini which is prosciutto, salami, roasted red peppers, provolone and pesto which I'm pretty sure I devoured in 10 seconds because it was so good. Great food, service sucked! They only allow a few people at a time in the store but there's no way to tell if you can go in or need to step aside. We stood by The sign where it said "order here" but gave in after nobody even came our way to help, we ended up going to the "pay" counter and ordering. The wait can be very long sometimes, and the customer service has, on occasion, been spotty. Their catering is amazing! My family has ordered a brined turkey for Thanksgiving, and more recently a bunch of catering items for parties. The preparation and service has always been excellent, and the food even better. We stopped here to grab a sandwich for lunch. We knew the food would be good when we saw all of the local work trucks - construction, maintenance workers etc. The food is A LOT more than sandwiches and the store has A LOT more than food. Great gift shop, wine and specialty coffees. Our sandwiches, salads and snacks were delicious. The 4 star rating, rather than 5, is due to no place to eat on site. Parking is very limited. It's really a grab and go place. All was good, we just brought our food back to our hotel in Kennebunkport and ate outside by the marina. Definitely recommend this place. read more

As a resident of the Cape porpoise area, I have been going to Cape porpoise kitchen for 10+ years. Their food is good but the service and the rudeness of the staff has gotten to the point where I am no longer going to go to this establishment. Once again today, I was standing under the sign that says"place orders here," when a man went to the register line and the middle-aged man behind the counter ignored me and asked the gentleman what he wanted. I've seen this happen to many female customers who visit the restaurant. As mentioned in other Yelp reviews, the staff seems disorganized and unsure of their roles. This establishment needs new leadership and a training program for the staff ASAP. I will try again next summer and see if things improved. read more

Have been coming for years and service is always slow (sometimes downright incompetent) and food inconsistent and overpriced but there really aren't a lot of other options so we still come somewhat begrudgingly. Today I'm really annoyed. Ordered a lasagna size pan of berry french toast in advance and picked it up this morning. Opened it up to serve when we get home and it's totally burnt. Have bough this before so i know this isn't what it's supposed to look like. Unacceptable to sell something like that. When you pick it up it's fully sealed with a foil pan lid so no way to see there's an issue with it. How does that come out of your oven and you think it's ok to give to a customer like that?! The right thing to do is to make a new order - not sell a burnt pan of food to someone. Or call your customer and let them know there was an issue and you can't remake it for whatever reason. Had to pick off the burnt topping to be able to eat some of the inside part of it. Can't imagine coming back for anything here anymore. I'm of over this place and will drive further away for better options. Just bad. read more

I have been patronizing this place for 15 years and the rudeness of the staff is quite amazing actually. For some reason they feel like they are being bothered when you are ordering food there. It's unfortunate because their food is just ok but it does not match the customer service. Just tonight, I walk in and was waiting to be serviced; another customer comes in and the lady with the blonde hair with a pony tail and hair band assumed that he was here before me - I said, excuse me, I was here before him. She does take my order but had the most awful attitude about it. We get to checkout and I push some of the food for her to scan and she pushes it back to me so rudely - she says, I'm not ready for that. Then she throws the pen at me to sign. The first time I went here, I got their signature coffee (delicious and smooth) and a homemade cinnamon roll (soft and comforting). They have everything! From cookies, caramels, muffins, and pie... to a large wine collection and assorted cheeses, fresh jam, honey and maple syrup! They also sell cute decorations for your home, like candles and plaques!
