Bandaloop is a very inviting place. Having made reservations for the first floor, we ended up upstairs. About anywhere you sit would have been wonderful. Unfortunately, no outdoor dining before Memorial Day. Great knowledgeable and attentive service with Paul. Upstairs was busy but not crowded. Food was fantastic. Wild mushroom soup was delicious. A tasting of sunchokes, pan seared mousam bakery mushrooms and shishito peppers made a meal for one of the party and still had leftovers. Best was the entree, Maine style palusami was a complex flavor concoction that was a home run. Finished with black forest cake. Hope to return again from the West Coast. They can certainly compete with any restaurant in any big city read more

I have been wanting to try this place for soooo long, and was happy to finally have the opportunity. The menu (as far as I could tell) changes frequently, and it features several vegetarian dishes and small plates, in addition to other mains. The drink menu had some really fun offerings, and both cocktails were got were delicious. The food was very good as well, but nothing that blew us away. We were disappointed that they sat us in a different part of the restaurant than we reserved, which felt odd considering we specifically had to choose which area we were reserving a table in and it wasn't a busy night, but it was no big deal at all. During a recent trip to Maine, we stayed near Goose Rocks Beach. We struggled to find somewhere to eat that didn't feel like a tourist trap in Kennebunkport. We came across Bandaloop in our searches and were instantly enticed by the interesting menu. We sat in the outdoor patio area. We ordered the eggrolls and elote cauliflower as appetizers to share amongst 5 adults. We all just wanted a small taste before our meals. I ordered the fish stew and it was delicious albeit a little spicier than our server said it was. My sister ordered the Palusami and it was really incredible. I had a few spoonful and have never had anything like that before. We ordered the strawberry rhubarb crumble for dessert and it was great! The raspberry sorbet that it came with was delicious. My only issue was that the service was very slow. It didn't seem super busy when we were there so we were certainly surprised by the slow service and lack of attention from the server. With Reservations made we arrived at 7:15P. There were only 6 or 8 tables with customers on the main floor. The hostess decided to seat us in the BAR. First of all, We don't drink alcohol and the bar was louder than the main dining room. With all the empty space she took us to an area where two other couples were at the tables next to us. No consideration regarding privacy and I don't care to hear other people's conversation at dinner. I carefully picked up our service ware and moved it to the empty table in the corner. It even seemed it might be a stretch for the server in the Bar to be able to walk 25' to our NEW location. The Food was very tasty. The bottled water was chlorinated, so we bought a liter. The 2 liter Gigantic green water bottles were attempting to take the place of center pieces, but you can't lift them (4.4Lbs) safely. I worked in a few HIGH Level Restaurants as the maitre D'. I always catered to the customer's needs. AS for Bandaloop; With improved customer service that does not take a "guarded attitude", it would be a more gracious place. I was not attacking anyone. I mentioned that a 2 liter bottle cannot be picked up and poured with ease. "It's a new thing changed by the manager."--------- It was not well thought out. Try to pour a 2 liter bottle of wine or water with one hand. We also had to use another napkin as a placemat. What is on those tables? Bee's Wax? Use some Dawn soap. read more

My fiancé and I had an incredible dinner tonight at Bandaloop in Arundel and can't wait to come back! We started with the Avocado Timbale and the Sourdough Bread with Whipped Feta--both were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The bread was warm and crusty, and that olive oil and whipped feta? Absolute heaven. For mains, we shared the Yaki Onigiri and the Vermont Aged Cheddar Quesadillas with Chicken--the crunchy layer of cheese on the outside of the quesadillas was to die for! We also ordered extra sugar-cured jalapeños, and they added the perfect sweet-spicy kick. Dessert was a special, a chocolate pistachio cake, and we added a scoop of vanilla ice cream--highly recommend doing the same if it's on the menu. Rich, balanced, and decadent. Our server, Jess, was a total sweetheart--attentive, kind, and perfectly paced with service. She really helped make the evening feel special. We called around 1:30pm and left a message that we would like to reserve a table for 3. In my message I stated that we are about to head out and we look forward to an organic vegan dinner for 3 "so please reserve a table for us". We got there around 5pm and told the hostess that we drove from 2 hours away, she asked if we had a reservation. I told her that we called to reserve a table for 3. She had no compassion for us and simply stated that she got our message and that there were no tables available "sorry". (Even though we later found a message from her calling at 3:45 saying that there are only a few tables open. ) When we told her that we are willing to wait for a table to open up she said "sorry we don't have any tables at all". There was no compassion for us and our child. I told her again, that we drove from two hours to get there and she finally said, "the only other option is for you to order out". We took her up on that option and headed over to the take out counter. The kind gentlemen at the cash register told us that he was new, and after we explained to him that we wanted to order a vegan organic meal and he said that he can't take orders until 6pm. We went back to the hostess and she instructed us on sitting in the lounge chair area for an hour. She said we could get drinks at the bar, but we can't seat the child at the bar. I noticed the drink in the cooler and proceeded to get a drink for my child. When I asked about the root beer, the cashier said that I can order it from the tap at the bar. I walked over to the hostess and asked her where the bar was so we can order the root beer and she gave us a stern demeaning look as if we were breaking the rules and stated that we are not to go to the bar as she already told us. I had to explain to the hostess that that I was getting a root beer for my son and that the cashier told us to go to the bar to order. I also wanted to get two drinks for myself and my husband. I explained to the hostess that I merely want to follow their rules. Finally she said, yes, that I could order the drinks. The hostess was nothing less than inhospitable, and cruel in her demeanor and tone with us. I went to the bar to order the drinks, I was afraid to sit down for I wasn't offered a seat. I asked the bartender for an organic wine and he didn't seem to know. I finally ordered 2 Peak Organic Beers and the root beer and I waited to get my drinks at the bar. I paid and tipped the bartender and then had to bus the three drinks myself to where my husband and child were waiting. At that point my husband told me that a kind waitress had asked if he was waiting for a table and that sometimes something opens up. We hoped that someone would offer us a place to sit. I noted a table that was sitting uncleared for over 30 minutes. I also would have gladly taken the stool seats at the window, or even the seats outside. We went to place our order at the take out order register. We spent over $100 for a soup, bread, a child's mac n cheese, a burger and 3 drinks. At 6:30 we drove away and looked for a parking lot to eat our food in. My child was grateful for food after waiting for over and hour and said the children's menu vegan mac and cheese was so good. I contacted the owner Bridget and she was at first AI kind saying things like "You and your family made a long trip, looking forward to a special meal, and what you experienced was confusing, frustrating, and disappointing." She then went on to offer a $100 refund for the dinner and invited us back. I was so relieved and felt heard. I gave her my address and said "Yes, we will take that offer". We never received the refund. Then after a month went by I contacted her again go let her know that I never received the refund. Then after I posted an honest review about our experience she contacted me to say that the "gift certificate" got lost in the mail and that she would be happy to mail me a new one then added- "but after the post you made in Vegan Massachusetts, I'm not so sure I'd like to". Eww. I didn't really want the refund, I just wanted to know if she was sincere, and she wasn't. read more

We had dinner here last night. I had reserved upstairs but when we got there she had us at a table next to the fire downstairs which was perfect for me! The ambiance is cozy and the perfect lighting. It almost feels like you're at a friends house. My husband and I split the Gorgonzola egg rolls. These were bomb. He had two old fashions and commented that both tasted entirely different which was interesting. He said both were good but just prepared differently. I had a N/A beer called the white by a local brewer and it was delicious. For dinner I had the fish stew. The shrimp was tough but everything Else tasted delicious. The toast that came with it could have been a bit thicker to soak up the perfectly made broth. He had the chicken sandwich. The bun was very fresh tasting and good texture. Chicken was cooked well. Not too spicey at all. The potatoes it was served with were also perfectly seasoned and cooked. All in all a very good meal and we will be back. The server was great as well. read more

I have been to this restaurant several times. The last time I went, I got the "three sisters" meal, I was super excited about it. It looked and tasted AWFUL. It was basically inedible, there were literally pieces of food scraps in it such as the cob of corn, that made it literally inedible. I was EXTREMELY disappointed (see photo.) but I did not send the food back to the kitchen because I was on a date. That night, I had food poisoning. I contacted the restaurant the next day and the lady who answered the phone screamed at me when I told her I think I got food poisoning there. I would drive the three hours from home to here just to eat at this restaurant again. Our server, Tyler, was amazing. He was helpful, let all of us visit, and attentive to allergies. And my dinner! Started with the ginger Manhattan which was very gingery with the first two sips and then mellowed and blended beautifully. It helped me choose the pork chop as my dinner. Perfectly cooked this center cut chop with roasted sweet peppers and onions, and potatoes. The mustard sauce and rosemary gave a beautiful smokiness to the dish. The only thing I could have used more of was the roasted broccoli. I only got one piece that was so good I'd have loved another. I was with a group including some family so didn't take pics but just get here and eat. Oh and pay for the bread app. It arrived so war you almost couldn't touch it and the olive oil was sublime! read more

Simply adored this restaurant. Was my favorite from our annual Maine trip this summer. The vibe is so warm and welcoming and the food is a blessing for a family with dietary restrictions. There was a lovely play space for my son to entertain himself while we perused the menu. They also had a wonderful children's menu and our server brought him a coloring book and crayons. Totally child friendly establishment while still feeling like a space catered to adults. We each started with a yummy cocktail and had a glass of wine with dinner. Absolutely beautifully designed, open and comfortable space, with couches for casual seating, a takeout counter, lots of outdoor garden seating, live music, AND an epic menu that was so spectacular, I had very hard time deciding what to get. We were there for brunch. After a LOT of thought I ended up settling on the Shakshuka (after a shared peach scone, a fruit platter and a hibiscus glazed cinnamon roll). Bandaloop used to be our go to place with reasonable prices, nice indoor ambiance and nice patio, consistently good food and plenty of parking. Sad to say our last visit was surprisingly disappointing. The mussels were undercooked - many were unopened or barely opened, the meat from the ones that were opened was difficult to remove from the shell. Fresh, properly cooked mussels should be opened and meat should be plump and easy to remove from shell. The hot miso pork sandwich had very little pork, and what pork they had was fatty, and some of the mushrooms were tough. For dessert, we bought the ice cream sandwiches available in the take out area for dessert. The cookie part was soft and bland, the ice cream was nothing special. $8 for a very small, very bland ice cream sandwich. I can't even remember what flavors we purchased. All and all a very disappointing meal. On a bright note the service and the bread (had to be ordered) were very good. read more

Food otherwise was ok, but they were out of the salmon and the mussels and the scallops and the tuna special. We had an 8 o'clock reservation, and that was apparently on the late side. I know kitchen planning is really tough, but it's Maine! If you're cutting it close on all your seafood dishes, then don't take the reservation. Visited Bandaloop for "snacky hour" on the patio. They do this on Fridays and Saturdays during the summer and it's awesome! I compared the snacky hour menu with the dinner menu and honestly liked the offerings and price point better for snacky hour. Plus, I rarely go out to dinner and would rather have a fun day out and be home by 5. Snacky hour only lasts for 3 hours so we were there at opening. We walked through the restaurant to get to the patio and it was stunning. My husband and I shared 2 plates for each drink we had because we were eager to try the whole menu. We were floored with everything but the coconut lemongrass gazpacho was the hit. Now that I've tried the food I definitely want to return for dinner. read more

Wild mushroom bisque was unbalanced and too much citrus, seemed like a lemon was squeezed over the top. Brisket sando looked very interesting, complete mess w the absolute worst excuse for brisket I've ever seen. Basically a poorly executed roast beef sandwich. Swordfish was not good at all, mushy steamed veggies, pilaf was oddly dry and again waaaay too much citrus. Frankly, I would have been happier staying in Portland and going to one of the classic spots. There's really no reason to waste your time here. read more

Nothing but good things to say about Bandaloop! We had a wonderful anniversary dinner here earlier this month. We were seated in the loft area of the restaurant, tucked into our own little corner. It was private and romantic. The drinks were STRONG and delicious. I got the wine flight to start which was a fun way to try some new wines. The food was exceptional. We obviously had to get the house made baguette with olive oil for dipping.....it didn't last long! We also got the Bandaloop egg rolls. We loved the tang of the Gorgonzola and the acidity of the port wine reduction. I got the udon noodles with fried tofu for my entree.....it was the BEST fried tofu I've ever had. So flavorful (I think many restaurants miss the mark with fried tofu and it ends up being a soggy, tasteless mess....not here!!). I am honestly craving these noodles all the time now! Steve had the chicken breast with two dipping sauces. He said the vegetables on the side were the best he's ever had. The peanut dipping sauce that came with his chicken was the best!! You know we go all out and had to get dessert too which was delicious....chocolate cake with cherry coulis....how can you go wrong? Moist, chocolatey, and some freshness from the cherry coulis. Not overbearing sweet like many chocolate cakes can be. It was a perfect way to end the evening and we rolled out of there full and happy! We will definitely be going back to Bandaloop in the future! Read some mixed reviews so had to try this myself. Started with the sourdough bread which was incredibly soft and warm, always a great start to a meal. (although they did charge for an extra butter). I had the sesame salmon which was bathed in a yummy sweet soy sauce. Both the fish and salad tasted fresh and I think it's worth paying a bit more for the local foods. It's nicely laid out with a spacious first flour arms an attractive second floor dining area. The menu offered a great selection of seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes.
