I paid $124 for a 4.9 pound prime rib. It was the fattiest, most awful piece of meat I ever purchased. My friends purchased a 4 pound prime rib from Market Basket in Biddeford at $10 a pound and it was fabulous. End of Shields for me. read more

We stopped in on Labor Day because we wanted to bring home some steaks for the week's dinners. I found Shields online and was intrigued by their hot dogs that were shaped like a patty. Of course we picked up the hot dog patties of internet fame but we also got a couple of NY strip steaks, a ribeye, Chinese ribs, steakhouse wings, 2 thick cut porkchops, some frozen au gratin potatoes and a garlic cheese dip. In total we spent about $100 which felt like a pretty good value. So far we've had both the pork chops and the NY strips steaks and both were awesome! We cooked them sous vide and the seared them on our Blackstone griddle which turned out better than anything we've had in a restaurant lately. The porkchops were especially tasty considering they were a lot less expensive than our local butcher which made us appreciate them that much more. We were also pleasantly surprised at the $2.99lb price for chicken wings. The shop isn't too big and right now due to COVID they are only allowing two people at a time in the store so plan a little extra time for your visit just in case you need to wait (like we did). However once we were inside the gentleman who waited on us was really helpful and accommodating. Even though it was getting close to their close time he had no problem running our back to marinate some chicken wings for us. We're going back in ME this weekend and may stop in again since we'll probably eat most of what we bought on Monday by then! read more

Excellent choice of meats and they have a selection of veggies, pasta, sauce, frozen food,cheese, we spent $150 and have dinner for 3 for a few nights, and the staff is friendly and helpful so don't miss your chance to enjoy local quality meats and everything you might need to complete a full dinner plan. This must be a record, after only 3 days I'm writing an update. It's the 4th of July and I tried their flatfurter. What you get is 8 slices of what must start out as the world's biggest hot dog. The slices are each the size of a hamburger patty and they are exactly what they claim to be. It's like eating a hot dog without needing hot dog rolls because they fit in the rolls you bought for the burgers. What were they like? The only thing missing was the snap when you bite into the casing, but like all the other meat at Shelds, they were all you could hope for. They even charred perfectly on the grill. But they seem to have as much meat as 2 hot dogs and for me, one hot dog is enough. I don't think they'll be anything more than a novelty, but they make me like Shields that much more. read more

I moved to Wells 4/2015 from So California. I had been spoiled with my meat market in California but once I found Shields, I was so happy. The have Bell and Evans air chilled chicken which is the only chicken I will eat. And their beef, pork and lamb are outstanding. They will cryovac any of your purchases which really can help keep everything extra fresh. They really are the best. read more
