People working there are amazing! They were respectful and super helpful every step of the way, from our initial phone call to showing us how to ride in person. Highly recommend this place over the other place across the street, the other place guy on the phone had too much ego and didn't answer my questions directly. This place is much nicer, Ryan teaching us how to use the snowmobile was very clear with his instructions and we felt confident as first time riders. He lead us to the trail head and showed us the route. We had a lot of fun and our snowmobiles did great! We got a room booked for the day to change gear after hiking in the snow with our dog and have a safe warm place for our dog to rest while we went out for a few hours on snowmobiles. Talk about a family fun day in heaven!!! My husband and I are longshoremen in seattle and RARELY travel on weekends. We planned to go tubing, but they were only open on weekends. We were bummed and looking for activities. We found this place only 5 minutes up the road from our family's lodge. Our kids had never been on a snowmobile, so we were pumped to teach them. We went on a Monday and were the ONLY PEOPLE on the trails. Perfect conditions to teach newbies. Kids are 20, 16, and 11. The process was easy and fun, the teacher was amazing and went over everything and was open for any repeats or questions!! Led us to the trails and off we went. Return was simple and fast! Took my nephews for a special outing to celebrate high school graduation. I'm not from the area, we were camping nearby, and I had only rented a jet ski once before. I mentioned all this when I called Last Resort last Saturday morning and asked about the weather and likelihood of having a fun rental. I agreed to the terms and paid over the phone for a half day jetski rental, and arrived early to also add on a kayak rental since my friends were going to meet us at Wish Poosh. Staff were friendly and helpful and checked in to make sure the demonstration for using it was understood, which I really appreciated. We were set to have the jetski and kayak from 1 to 5 pm. However it was a terrible experience and we didn't get to enjoy them whatsoever. As soon as we arrived it was very windy, and the person who dropped off the rentals took off. We tried using the jetski and kayak and it was impossible to use either of them with how incredibly windy it was and extremely choppy the water was. I did not think it would be safe to try to go faster on the jetski, because even operating it at 4 to 5 nah almost made it tip sideways and we couldn't see with how bad the craft was bouncing in the water. The conditions were awful, and I had no idea it would make it impossible to use the equip because of this. It was pointless after waiting a couple hours because the wind didn't die down. I asked to return the equipment early and explained why and that we were only using them for about fifteen minutes and couldn't see because the water sprayed you in the face badly every few seconds from the rocking waves. I completely understand staff has no control over weather, but it makes no sense to me that they didn't advise to rent a boat instead or offer another location perhaps. I kindly explained I understood that I probably couldn't be given a full or even partial rental, but I was hoping they would be considerate of the fact I treated the equipment safely and was honest about the experience. I told them I was going to be back in another 3 weeks for a family trip and hoped to be offered a fair discount for a future rental. I did receive an apology email, but the discount offered was very poor considering I spent over $500 and had the equipment for less than 2 hours. Again I appreciated the kindness overall but it seems really unfair I wasn't warned that these two rentals would be literally impossible to use in this type of weather and offered suggestions for another alternative, or at least offered a discount when I wanted to give them more business in the future that would be fair for them and for me. read more

I had an in amazing experience renting a pair of snowmobiles with a friend and our kiddos (9 yo and 5 yo). The owner was flexible on dates, as we changed things up a few times. We took the optional gear and insurance package, and it made the whole experience stress-free. The lobby has a lot of gear, and the staff was helpful. The staff has a chill casual vibe, which judging. by other reviews puts some people off. The snowmobiles themselves were great and the route was beautiful. Review is for the snowmobile rentals. Wow, such a good time! The staff was super nice, knowledgeable and comforting as this was our first time ever riding snowmobiles - must admit I was a bit anxious thinking it could be dangerous. Obviously with any motor sport there are risks but they assured us we'd be fine haha. Chad was our guy down at the start and set us up with sleds, he's a pro and made it super easy. His sister (I believe Megan) was in the main office and set us up with reservations yesterday, rentals today and all the gear. They have snowsuits, boots, gloves, helmets, everything you need and it was very reasonable - only $30ish. The trails were magical. We had an epic time and will be back for sure. read more

I made a reservation in their group camp spot for two nights. Both nights the sprinklers came on and drenched our tent and all of our stuff sitting around. All our sleeping bags had to be hung up all over the place, and you get the idea. I even told them after the first night, and they didn't turn them off, and we had it happen again the second night. I told them what happened and asked for a reimbursement, but they have yet to get back or reimburse me. This was six months ago; I think there's been plenty of time. I would not want to camp there again, and now I doubt their integrity and customer service. read more

This review is for the motel. The name sounds daunting but don't let the name fool you. It is a pretty cute and quaint little motel. It reminds me more of a cabin than motel. It sits right outside the national park so great location. They have wifi and it works pretty well. I love the porch area. You look out to trees. The beds are comfy and rooms are spacious. The bathroom and room is pretty clean. I liked that they had plenty of soap and shampoo. You have all that you need - refrigerator/sink and even a cutting board. Tv worked fine. The only issue that I had was that the heating wasn't that great. They had wall heaters so you can either set it to 80 degrees or nothing. It didn't sense what temperature the room was at so even if you set it at 72ish, it wouldn't detect it. I had to keep getting up to heat the room. Eventually, the room was cozy after we fell asleep with the blankets on us. The lady who cleans the room is super friendly and nice. *As for the restaurant, I wouldn't say their food is particularly that good. The prices are a bit higher than you would expect for the quality of the food. It is basically American diner food. The people working here are pretty nice. read more

In my opinion this is not a safe place for families to rent snowmobiles. They have no control over the trails. Lots of fast dangerous riders. We paid around $2,000 to rent 4 machines. We went about 100 yards and my daughter and wife tipped over. As they were falling 2 riders came racing around them and clipped my wife's helmet. Her leg was pinned under the machine and she couldn't get up. At least the speed demon did stop and help pick up the machine and speed away. I went back and ask the manager to come help. He brought his mechanic. The first thing the mechanic said was you will have to pay for the damages. We have no jurisdiction over the other riders. No one asked how my wife was doing. We were so upset we left. My son later called the manager and asked about a refund. He said the damage was minimal and they wouldn't make us pay for that. We said since we were only on them for 10 minutes can we get our $2K back. I finally got to talk to the owner a couple of weeks later and he refused to refund anything. He did say if we come back we can ride for free. That's a pretty safe offer since we live in Texas. I did give them 1 star because one of the sweet girls working there asked if everyone is OK as we were leaving. read more

The next one i got felt rickety, had flickering electronics, reverse was spotty and the hand warmers didn't work. Another of the rentals brakes gave out. Scary. It's been many years since I've visited but I won't be going back anytime soon. It sounds to me like the management is driven by greed and not providing a quality experience to their clients. A current situation with an old friend of mine puts their ethics in question. Here's the situation as he describes it. " I have a race coming up in September and The Last Resort is the nearest lodging just west of Roslyn, WA. I called and made a reservation for 1 room on February 28th the same day I signed up for the event because I knew that as the race got closer these rooms would be in high demand. The manager called me today on 8/27/18 and said they took another persons reservation that booked all 12 of their rooms and that I would no longer have a room for the dates I previously reserved. I tried talking to the manager to understand how and why this is happening and he told me this is just what he is choosing to do. This is the worst case of hotel management and customer service I have ever experienced! It is not to late to make it right!" I'd like to hear what the management and owners have to say? read more

I have a friend who made a reservation for a room back in February. He is running in a race nearby in a couple weeks. Today he received a call from The Last Resort and was told that they went ahead and rented the room out to someone else instead who wanted all 20 rooms so they were canceling his reservation. He is now devastated because all of the other local motels are booked by other runners and he has no local place to stay. I think this is a terrible action taken by a greedy business owner with little concern for a tarnished reputation. I just don't know what happened!!!! The "last resort / starlight / whatever they call it these days" was always one of my favorite parts about going snowmobiling in Cle Elum. My buddy has a cabin in Pinelock Sun and you can ride the ridge on your snowmobiles from doorstep to doorstep. My favorite part was the bar of course, when it was the original "last resort" it rocked! Every night of every weekend I was in Roslyn I was at the last resort. When it became the starlight they did Karaoke and that was actually a step up on the "fun meter." Recently this last season "2011-2012" we ventured back and I was absolutely SHOCKED to see the bar was closed.... not closed but CLOSED DOWN! They were still serving beer in the dining area but you were sitting around families and the atmosphere was... well... less then inviting for the enthusiastic at heart. I actually dont even drink anymore but I still enjoy the atmosphere and playing a game of pool while pumping quarters into the old Juke box. I was very saddened by the recent changes they have made to a place I'd been frequenting for over a decade. I hear it's back up for sale yet again, I hope some rich Microsoft guy swoops in and turns it around.. I'll check back in every time I'm in the area in hopes that maybe Don got this yelp review and had a change of heart. I know times are hard but by all means DO NOT EVER, EVER close down a bar. We arrived on Sunday noon to pick up 3 rental snowmobiles reserved earlier same week. After signing waiver forms an old man behind the counter asked me to sign credit card slip for $3000 ($1000 x 3 snowmobiles) deposit on my card. I politely asked him to split deposit so each of us covers his own rental. Surprisingly he got annoyed and told us that it is "foolish" because "you not going to pay it anyway". We didn't share his opinion and insisted. This was the first red flag. About 10 minutes later young man gave us brief training and pointed us to our snowmobiles. I tried to start mine but the key ignition didn't work. The instructor guy was still around so I asked him if he can give me different sled with working key start. He told me to use starter cord instead because they don't have any more snowmobiles left and cannot replace it. I decided it is not a big deal so we left for the ride. After couple hours of riding and many pulls on starter cord my friends told me that my snowboard jacket had big black marks around chest and entire right arm. Initially I thought that this was due to exhaust but later realized that starter cord was all soaked in black oil and each pull on it was leaving bunch of it on my jacket. At this point I figured that my Burton jacket is dead (as later same day confirmed washing machine couldn't do anything) and I'll have to buy new one.. When we arrived back to the rental shop I parked snowmobile outside and came inside to see same old man behind counter. I told him about broken key start and my ruined jacket. I was disappointed but did not raise my voice and told him they could at least warn me when advising to use cord (something tells me I'm not the first one whose jacket was ruined). He responded to me with anger "I don't care" and told that I don't know how to use starter cord. He stepped outside to show me how to do it "properly" and I followed. He pulled the cord clearly trying to avoid contact and started engine. Proud of his achievement he headed back to the shop. Nevertheless (not surprising) the back of his forearm was in black oil. I told him "look on your arm", in response he started yelling at me "DO YOU WANT ME TO CALL POLICE FOR YOU?" and repeated it several times very loud. I don't know if he has friends in local police (it is a small town after all) but I didn't want to find out. At the same time I was shocked and told him why is he threatening me with police if my jacket is ruined instead of apologizing. He responded with even louder "YOU KNOW WHAT, F*CK YOU!". That was it for me. I said "Ok" and decided there was no point to argue anymore, the old man was clearly emotionally unstable. Instead I decided to write this review once I get back home. Bottom line is that great day was ruined. I don't know if that crazy old man is an owner or employee but and I don't really care. I'm sure they will get plenty of customers, after all there isn't much competition in area. But there is a slim chance this review will make a difference. I can't comment on the resort itself, but the Jet Ski rental place is truly the "last resort". Unfortunately, the guy is the only show in town (literally). We rented two skis for the day and spent 3 hours waiting for them to get a second ski that worked, and the guy wasn't even. When I complained, the owner told me that he was going to charge me the $1000 deposit for "giving him attitude". He offered to take them back and give me a refund, but then proceeded to try and keep half of the rental fee. Poor business, but I guess the guy knows he is the only renting on Lake Cle Elum. Think twice (or as many times as you need) before renting from this place. Truly buyer beware. read more

We traveled to Roslyn, WA the location for the TV series Northern Exposure's town of Cicely, Alaska. It was August of last year and the height of the tourist/camping season. We were on our way back from two months in Alaska. The Last Resort was mentioned on Moosefest.com, the annual gathering site for Northern Exposure fans. The Last Resort is fairly close to downtown Roslyn and was our "last resort" during this busy season. RV camping under the trees behind the restaurant was an OK setting. We shared the space with two other trailers, both appeared to be local residents. The lady on our right had a young son and had two Doberman Pincers chained to the trailer. The guy on our left arrived home from work in his pickup truck, flying a Confederate Rebel flag from the bed. Everyone was friendly and the owner and staff very hospitable. Needless to say our neighbors gave the place a touch of local color. read more

I stayed here this weekend. The rooms are really nicely remodeled, very comfortable space, but I don't understand why being in Eastern Wa. you don't have air-conditioning.?? Also, I did not have a TV in my room, others did. I came home after dark both nights and there were no lights on outside at all. My porch light was out, and the hanging lights on the gutters we're not on. There were a couple solar lights, but they were very very dim. I had to get out my phone flashlight to put my key in the door, which made me feel very uneasy as I was alone in the dark. The grass that used to be a immaculately groomed needs a mow. And a couple of the outlet covers were missing which left behind the wall exposed, and the heat controller had no cover on it, so it was exposed too which creeped me out because I'm afraid of spiders. I love staying there, it's nice and close to the river which is where I hang out, but next year if you don't have AC I don't think I'm going stay there again. It would be worth it to make the drive into town to stay some where with AC. Just a couple minor tweaks and you might have more business. There was hardly anybody there all weekend. I think the new owners need to take a closer look at what they need to do to make this place more popular. It could be a really great place to stay. 85 a nite for a small room with no AC and no TV is way too much read more

My review may be a little different than most. I have spent a large part of my 36 years visiting the last resort. From ownership changes, weather changes, and changes in local laws. I've seen it all. The current owner, Don. A great, honest, and stand up guy. He was the first owner I can remember from my earliest childhood. He bought the business back and I couldn't be happier. His son in law Tim is a great guy and has helped us WELL BEYOND what could be expected. I can't express enough, if you want to ROCK some snow machines or have some serious fun at the lake. I scheduled to take my family snowmobiling. There was a weather system coming through so we called the day before to ask about the proper procedure if the passes were closed and we couldn't make it. We were instructed to just call first thing in the morning with the possibility of rescheduling due to weather. Next morning, passes were open but required chains or AWD, we didn't have either so we left a message about rescheduling. The owner later called us to ask why we didn't show up and we told him we left a message as instructed. Now we are out our deposit because we followed his instructions!!!
