We stopped by the Lemon Drop on our way through Anderson. From the outside it looks like a cute small diner. We were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant itself was very clean. The waitresses are some of the nicest people I have met on our travels. They were friendly, super helpful, and provided excellent customer service. The food was very good. My family ordered burgers and fries. I ordered the hamburger steak with onions inside. It was delicious and the shoestring fries were cooked perfectly. Our family gave it high marks! This is a 1950s diner. Limited seating, but always fast service. I have been eating there ever since they opened in 1954. Waitstaff takes your order, but doesn't write it down on a pad. Food is good and the best fries we have eaten anywhere. read more

Love the burgers. You must try the onion burgers and lemon shakes. The food is also fresh because they are making it then and there. The girls always seem to be very nice but also in a rush. My issue I have with this place is that it's a well-known staple in Madison county but yet the seating is very dismal. There are maybe 4 booths and just rail seating. I understand that this is the OG place and that there is so much history but, it's inconvenient when you want to come and get a bite, especially like me that is out of town. I usually always have to get my food to go because of the lack of seating. Here's for hoping for at least outside seating in the future. read more

Better than Steak N Shake, second to Culver's and much like your typical local "greasyspoon". Their burgers have good flavor (original is on toast) and the fries are good - they kind of remind me of McDonald's, only MUCH better. As a Hoosier that knows and loves a good breaded tenderloin, I was not impressed with theirs. The facility appears clean (except the train/track) but is much smaller inside than anticipated. Maximum capacity is probably between 20-25. The lady behind the counter was more concerned with her regulars than me, which, was a major disappointment. We carry-out from here once every month or two. It's definitely inexpensive and is decent quality/taste, for the price. read more

What a terrific surprise! We stumbled upon this cute little vintage restaurant - and it did not disappoint! We had the onion burgers with fries and onion rings - we split a medium milkshake and a small chili. Everything was fresh and piping hot. So much like how we remembered hamburgers and fries as children. We will definitely come back! I also had a cherry phosphate. Everyone was so friendly, too! read more

I happened to run across this place by a random "50 best burgers in America" story. Surprisingly, I was headed to Indiana that day to pick up some car parts north of Indianapolis and The Lemon Drop was only 25 minutes out of the way. So I knew I had to drive over there. We arrived at 8:30 pm, they close at 9:00. We went in and sat at the counter on the stools. It is feels like stepping back in time here. The sign outside, the building exterior. The interior, the worn counter and original 50's vibe is awesome. I would eat bad food in a place like this. But you do not have to worry about bad food here. My son was with me and we both ordered the double onion burger, fries and 1 order of onion rings to split. I also got a lemon shake to share. The Lemon shake was awesome, it was so tart and sweet, definitely a mouth pucker for sure. The onion rings were great, perfect crisp to the batter and golden brown. The fries are generous and cooked perfectly and come out fresh and hot. Their counter ketchup is nice and thick also, and not some watered down stuff you get at a lot of places. The Onion burgers were phenomenal!! The way they have the onions inside the meat is a great design. They make the onions nice and blanched. Of course I had raw onions, tomato, pickles, lettuce and Mayo on my burger also. We both had ours on toast and it had a very light hint of rye to it, which complimented the burger even more. You can get the burger on a bun, but that is not how the burger came originally, so we went with toast. The burger was very hot also, I mean, it needed to cool a little first, which is rare these days. It felt like a meal your grandma would make for you on a lazy afternoon, it is that good. The owner was there, he has owned it since 1972. He was very nice and spoke with us for a bit. All the ladies that run the show are very friendly and gave us great service. I even got two t-shirts for the wife and I, and they were only $11 a shirt, which goes along with their low food prices. You can literally spend more money at Arby's or other fast food than here. It is really just a great place that I wish was 3 minutes from my house instead of 3.5 hours. But, I can see some road trip coming up and trekking over with the whole family. So do yourself a favor and drive out of the way to The Lemon Drop. You will be glad you did. read more

It's an out-of-the-way greasy spoon burger joint that is steeped in Anderson history. I've been going here since I was a little kid, and I still love it. Very tiny, very tasty, and very yellow. Burgers are smallish & flat and are served on buttery toast unless you order a bun. I usually order the double cheeseburger, or I sometimes get the grilled tenderloin. Lemon Drop is probably most famous for their onion burger. Onion rings, fries, malts, flavored cokes, ultra chewy ice, and even their salads are all good too. My son and I stopped in for lunch on our way back to Muncie, I've passed by several times and was never able to stop so we finally decided to and so glad we did! The spot is very small only a few booths and seating at the bar but we came around 3 so it wasn't too busy. When we ordered we asked the waitress what the best 3 sandwichs were and she told us the onion burger, the toasted cheeseburger, and the tenderloin so we ordered all 3 and an order of fries. The service was friendly and fast. When we received our food the kitchen had cut the sandwiches in half for us and put one of each on both of our plates! All of them were great but the onion burger was both my son and I's favorite! We will definitely be back the next time we are in Anderson together. read more

Classic Indiana burger joint. This place is a holdover from the auto industry heyday. Formerly a blue collar diner, now it is a nostalgia-laden classic. It is a colorful (yellow, of course) cinderblock building with a great sign outside. It is surprisingly small inside, but very authentic. The stars here are the burgers. They are thin and prepared as burgers were 50 years ago (so I've been told! I'm not that old). I highly recommend the cheeseburger on toast (which is exactly what it sounds like) or the onion burger. The cokes have the good kind of small, slush-like ice. The waitresses are super nice so tip them well. The only thing you have to be careful of is that it might be closed around major holidays! read more

The only thing that would make this place better is if they somehow added additional space. Retro, friendly, busy and VERY fresh. They Lemon Drop is a step back in time - right down to the historic neon sign, chrome bar stools, booths and jukebox. They electric train the runs at ceiling level is a fun touch that keeps kids (and adults) entertained. It's great to watch the cooks at work - and then deliver the burgers, tenderloins, fries or onion rings directly from the grill. Hot, HOT! The waitresses are very friendly and know the menu so well they don't bother to write anything down- they've got it. If you go often they remember your "regular" order and eventually your name. Awesome little gem which the locals know about and visitors like me need to find. There is not a lot of room inside four booths and ten stools around the counter. The people working here are very friendly and make you feel very welcome. Regarding the food I had the double onion burger and fries. Very tasty and enjoyable. With a Coke added the entire bill was just under $10. A little more expensive than McDonalds but well worth it plus much better tasting. Excellent place. read more
