Eva's is a place I'd lovingly refer to as a "greasy spoon"...and I mean that in the most endearing way! Easy to miss as the sign is a bit faded out front, and the main entrance faces into the parking lot. You walk into a restaurant that appears a little worn with dated decor. Don't let that deter you! I was seated immediately and noticed there were quite a few occupied tables at lunchtime. My booth was clean and well stocked with condiments. The waitress arrived and was very friendly, took my drink order and left me to peruse the menu. It is a large menu! You won't be disappointed with the many choices offered here. My coffee was fresh and hot, the waitresses offered to warm it up several times during my visit. I ended up with the vegetarian omelet, grits and wheat toast. It arrived very quickly and was hot/fresh. The veggies in the omelet were seasoned well, and the grits were creamy. The wheat toast was thick cut. It was a large meal and I was able to take home half for lunch the next day. I'll come back again and try the pancakes next time.

Last Sunday a friend of mine and I went out to Eva's Pancake House & Restaurant for breakfast. I have been a fan of Eva's for a few years now but this is the first time I have sat down and reviewed my experience. We got a late start to the morning but breakfast is good anytime of the day or night. Even so, it was still the AM when we arrived. The restaurant was busy so we had a few minute wait for our table. Our server was at our table soon after we sat down and took our drink order and said she'd come back in a few minutes to take our order. I am pretty much a creature of habit and I have my go-tos. I enjoy a good skillet for breakfast and Eva's had one on the menu that I don't remember seeing before. I also like to try new and exciting things or in this case, something I haven't eaten before so I ordered the Eva's Skillet with french toast instead of toast or pancakes. My friend ordered an omelette with bacon and cheese with pancakes. Our server (I wish I could remember her name.) asked my friend if she wanted the 5 egg omelette or the 2 egg. My friend's eyes get really big and said she would like to have the 2 egg omelette. I think the 5 egg choice was a bit intimidating! As is always been the case at Eva's, our food was delivered to our table in no time flat, hot, and looking very tasty. We drove straight in and enjoyed the remainder of the morning. The Eva's Skillet is a bed of hash browns with cheddar cheese, smothered in sausage gravy and topped with 2 eggs, style of your choice. It is a carb lovers dream! My french toast was your basic two slices of bread, dunked in egg, and fried up. The skillet was good and filling. Just what I expect from a place like Eva's. The french toast was okay. It wasn't bad, it is just I have mind numbingly great french toast so I have high standards. My friend's omelette looked very good and I know the pancakes were very good, Eva's does make a mean pancake... Overall this visit to Eva's Pancake House & Restaurant was like every other... very good. The staff if quick, efficient, and friendly. You never have to wait too long for a table and smelling all of the delicious food as you wait, makes just a bit hungrier! If you are trying to decide where to eat any given morning, why not give Eva's go? I know you won't be disappointed.

Delicious breakfast. Very kind staff, the place is loud and you're able to enjoy the business of a popular diner. Our food wad was piping hot, fast, and filling. The meat lovers skillet was crispy and perfect.

the biscuits and gravy were okay. I've had better, French toast was good. The pancakes were also good. It's a bit pricer than I had expected it to be but the food wasn't bad. Don't think I will be coming back for breakfast anytime soon.

Quick easy and straight to the point. Went on a weekday for breakfast and there was no wait and our food took 10 minutes to come out! Wish the juice cups were a little bigger, but not a major issue!

I personally enjoyed a favorite of mine, a buffalo chicken wrap which was full of delicious flavors and ingredients. When I tried order off the menu to see if I could get a trout and steak combo, my server tried very hard to make this happen, but gave up. She could have asked a manager, but it was not important enough for me to pursue the matter. But, she was very sweet and was very helprul the rest of the time. Pittsburgh Rare steak preparation involves charring the exterior on a very hot flat-top and serving it rare. What I got was not this, as I could immediately tell by the fact that it had noticeable grill marks. They just cooked as usual for a rare order. With a NY Strip steak, you expect some connective tissue, but not this much. It was hidden also in the muscle of the steak. I had trouble hiding all the half chewed offal on my plate. Neither did it have a great beef flavor. This summary from the internet agrees with my idea of rice pilaf, "Pilaf is a rice dish where grains are toasted in oil or butter with aromatics like onion and garlic before being simmered in seasoned broth, resulting in fluffy, separate grains." What I was served was nothing like this as I got buttered rice that clumped together. No effort was employed in plating for appearance. I got a steak on a plate and a silver colored boat on which the rice was piled. The Cole slaw served as a salad was very good. The beer was cold and as expected.

The facility is not overly attractive or inviting. You have to decide which door to use depending on which business you are frequenting. I didn't see any signs for the outdoor seating to direct you to the hostess. The parking lot is large with lots of spaces up close. We were here for food so we picked the door to Grains & Grill. The host was very friendly and kind. The inside looked welcoming. The journey to get to the outdoor seating was a bit of a maze. There seems to be plenty of comfortable indoor seating though it is kind of broken up in disjointed rooms. The outside area was nice. The over hang shielded us from the sun in our evening dinning hours. I found the tables to be a bit close together. There was another party next to our table so we had to be cautious about moving chairs to get situated. The outdoor chairs have a flexible plastic seat. The seat seemed to give more than made me comfortable. The chair seemed a bit flimsy. However, it was comfortable and didn't collapse on me. We started with the fried mushrooms. There were a LOT of small mushroom tips in this order. The batter was thicker and a bit mushy. There wasn't much seasoning flavor to the batter but it wasn't greasy to taste. The mushrooms seemed fresh. The dish was fairly good. The cocktail sauce had a decent amount of zip to it. My wife had the blackened fish tacos. Two came with the order. She loved the fresh taste. Definitely not a fishy taste. Delicious she said! I decided to try the Hoosier Hot Plate. It seemed like a house speciality...so why not! The tenderloin was outstanding! The pork was moist and juicy and moderately thin. The breading was nicely crunchy and moderately thick with a slight greasy taste. Maybe the best tenderloin I have ever had! The tenderloin was laid on top of a bed a real mashed potatoes. You could tell they were real by the lumps I bone smooth consistency. These were excellent as well. Just like mashed potatoes should be that were going to accent the meat. The tenderloin was topped with a creamed corn. I would have been disappointed if this creamed corn was the side dish. It was kind of bland and didn't have much of a corn taste. It was also rather mushy. I didn't think the corn added much taste to the tenderloin/mashed potato taste. Overall...it was an interesting dish that was worth a try.

Our drink order was taken, which was almost all water. Drinks came several minutes later. Orders were taken a few minutes after that. Food did take a bit but not unreasonable. At that time a few people needed more water. It took over 10 minutes before a pitcher of water was delivered to the table by someone other than our server. Bread was requested to the person bringing the water since we hadn't seen our server in nearly 15 minutes. Another 10 minutes and our server comes to check on us. She stated she didn't know about the lack of bread and blamed it on the other employee not telling her. At least another 10 minutes go by and nearly everyone is finished eating when the bread arrives. The food was good and the amount of food was good. All but me had eaten there before. 3 got the Hoosier plate, a couple had the tenderloin, a couple got burgers, and I got the Makers beef tips. All enjoyed their food and only a couple had any left to take home. The mashed potatoes were very good and a large portion. There were several ounces of meat and a good portion of green beans. The food was definitely a 4+. The service was a 2 at best. Along with the poor service, they added the optional 20% gratuity, since we had a party of 8. I knew this was possible since I read it on the menu. Most of the party did not. It was noted on the ticket but it was put very close to the other charges. For some, it was not noticeable. I understand the reasoning behind the charge but if the business isn't crowded and the servers aren't working excessively, I don't believe it's justified. In this instance, it may have led to poorer service since the server knew she'd be getting 20% no matter what.
