Love this great place. We stopped in for a quick bite and were very satisfied. Service was quick. I got a tenderloin sandwich and salad, my wife got a large chef style salad. It came with a different dressing which she didn't care for. The waiter immediately brought her favorite 2 and we were back in business We loved the food. Price was reasonable and the setting is quaint and very 50's throwback! They also serve hand dipped ice cream and if you get there between 3-5PM it is discounted. One of the best smash burgers I've had and definitely the best in the area. The thin patties have the tinge of char on the edges and the bun is perfect. The fries are amazing as well. Super crispy and lightly coated with something that adds subtle flavor. We've been in many times but didn't realize there is 21+ dining and a nice bar in the back room. The Kitchen on Main has the vintage aesthetic down to a T! I love how the owners refurbished the place into an old-school soda fountain/diner. Located in downtown Fortville in the same building as the now-defunct ice cream shop, Indulge, the Kitchen has such an inviting presence and has already solidified its place in my rotation of favorite restaurants. The Kitchen is known for its smash burgers, but I wanted to branch out a little, so I tried the "everything bagel brunch burger"--a smash patty topped with bacon, cheese, and a fried egg. I was really surprised that I liked it so much! The seasoning on the bagel perfectly complemented the juicy patty, and it convinced me that maybe all burgers should be served on bagels. I also loved the fries, they were reminiscent of Steak n Shake's shoestring fries: salty, crispy, and delicious. I also enjoyed the onion rings! I was surprised to learn that the Kitchen has a pretty extensive alcohol menu, (best enjoyed in the dedicated bar space in the back!) but I had to try a classic soda fountain Vanilla Coke. You can actually customize your soda with any of the flavor Syrups on the menu! Of course, I had to round out the meal with a sweet treat, so I had a scoop of salted caramel ice cream. Finally, I have to commend the Kitchen for their amazing service. There was only one waitress working and six tables occupied while I was there, but I never felt like we were waiting for very long. Our waitress was fantastic, very kind and welcoming, and she remembered all of our substitutions to our dishes. We really appreciated her going above and beyond to make sure that we had no problems during our dinner. I can't believe it's taken me so long to try the Kitchen on Main, but I now know that it's the best place in Fortville for a burger! read more

We all ordered smash burgers and fries. After reading reviews stating "the best smash burgers ever" I wanted to give this place a shot. The burgers were not good at all. They were dry and overcooked. I understand what it's like to be a 15 year old working a job. But the girl taking care of us was standing behind the counter coloring while we were waiting on a beer and our food. Hands-down, one of the best smash burgers I've ever had, if not the best. I ordered it with American cheese, onions, tomato, and of course mustard. The cheese was melted perfectly on the burger. The burger was crisp with great flavor and seasoning. The onion rings were light fluffy and delicious. This place is located on the main drag in Fortville. You feel like you're stepping back in time. It's an old time ice cream shop and diner. They have gourmet milkshakes, ice cream, extensive food menu and there's even a speakeasy bar at the back of the establishment. When you walk in you will see an old fashion malt shop. But, then you go to the back through the shiny curtain and you arrive at a fantastic cozy, intimate, electric bar area. We came with a group of 40...that being said, they said they could accommodate. About 10 in our party got their food within 25 mins...the rest 1hr 10min later, and the fi nal 1 hr and 45min later. The eariler food appeared great with decline as the meals progressed. Unfortunately I was one of the last...tenderloin over fried, got fries not onion rings. Having worked a short order grill I my past..your need to cycle and drop...whoever was cooking could not manage the push. Fine if there is not a push...2 stars because they were nice...would have been 1 if for not that. They remind me of the well renowned Working Man's Friend smash burgers in downtown Indy. We also had the fried pickles and oh my goodness! Best I have ever had and addictive. I saw the good reviews here, but I wasn't ready for this kind of quality and flavor. I was floored! My husband said it best...simple but excellent. This is food you can count on actually enjoy eating folks. Major value for money! Our waitress was Emma and she was fantastic and works hard to make sure you are happy with her service and the food. But once we placed our order and over an hour went by we asked a manager about our order. She told us the server didn't put our order in until a half hour ago and said it would be out in 20 minutes. When we spoke to the server she said she put it right away. Someone was not telling the truth. Then we asked the other manager about being comped for something and he basically said no! He said we came to see the band and since we saw them he wasn't going to do anything! Missed opportunity to comp us our drinks, give us $5 off, give us a coupon for an appetizer at our next visit. Anything would have been acceptable but he took no responsibility or offered anything for over a 2 hour wait for our meals. The meals came out without proper toppings, French fries were cold, needless to say it was a missed opportunity for the manager to make some small part of it right and he did nothing!
