The back room 21+
Kyle A.

One of the best smash burgers I've had and definitely the best in the area. The thin patties have the tinge of char on the edges and the bun is perfect. The fries are amazing as well. Super crispy and lightly coated with something that adds subtle flavor. We've been in many times but didn't realize there is 21+ dining and a nice bar in the back room. Provides a much nicer atmosphere than the brighter front room. Give this place a try!

The Kitchen on Main has the vintage aesthetic down to a T! I love how the owners refurbished the place into an old-school soda fountain/diner. Located in downtown Fortville in the same building as the now-defunct ice cream shop, Indulge, the Kitchen has such an inviting presence and has already solidified its place in my rotation of favorite restaurants. The Kitchen is known for its smash burgers, but I wanted to branch out a little, so I tried the "everything bagel brunch burger"--a smash patty topped with bacon, cheese, and a fried egg. I was really surprised that I liked it so much! The seasoning on the bagel perfectly complemented the juicy patty, and it convinced me that maybe all burgers should be served on bagels. I also loved the fries, they were reminiscent of Steak n Shake's shoestring fries: salty, crispy, and delicious. I also enjoyed the onion rings! I was surprised to learn that the Kitchen has a pretty extensive alcohol menu, (best enjoyed in the dedicated bar space in the back!) but I had to try a classic soda fountain Vanilla Coke. You can actually customize your soda with any of the flavor Syrups on the menu! Of course, I had to round out the meal with a sweet treat, so I had a scoop of salted caramel ice cream. Finally, I have to commend the Kitchen for their amazing service. There was only one waitress working and six tables occupied while I was there, but I never felt like we were waiting for very long. Our waitress was fantastic, very kind and welcoming, and she remembered all of our substitutions to our dishes. We really appreciated her going above and beyond to make sure that we had no problems during our dinner. I can't believe it's taken me so long to try the Kitchen on Main, but I now know that it's the best place in Fortville for a burger!

1/5 burger. 10/10 fries

We all ordered smash burgers and fries. After reading reviews stating "the best smash burgers ever" I wanted to give this place a shot. The burgers were not good at all. They were dry and overcooked. I understand what it's like to be a 15 year old working a job. But the girl taking care of us was standing behind the counter coloring while we were waiting on a beer and our food. So when food comes out cold it kind of stinks. It's a cute diner, reminds me of knights town.

Engagement party

Speakeasy type bar in the back was super cute. A friend booked the space for an engagement party and it was the perfect location. Owner was very attentive and friendly to all theguests. Ordered the Agave burger and it tasted amazing! Love supporting local own businesses! Definitely will return.

Smash burger and fries.

The wife and I were craving a decent burger and figured we would give this place a try. And I can say we will be back soon. The burger, fries, and onion rings were much better than we expected. Service was good with a small town feel and the inside looks the same. Had to stop myself from ordering another smash burger to go.

The Little Havana with Sweet potato fries
Keri T.

Small home town atmosphere. Eclectic decor. Friendly staff. Food was exceptional. Burger was very flavorful, onion rings nice and crispy, sweet potato fries were crispy with a nice seasoning, Havana had a unique flavor, the tenderloin is not an oversized one but it was very good. The food took a little longer to come out...one way to know it was just made. About half way through the meal someone started playing live piano. Interesting idea for a burger soda shop. Prices are upscale so they are a little high. Overall a nice little place to eat.

Nashville Chicken Ranch Wrap

This spot is newly opened and family-run! It's the perfect place to get a burger and fries and other comfort foods. I tried the wrap; it was crispy, spicy and HUGE! You can tell they really care about what they are doing. The service is great and friendly and so welcoming. If you are in Fortville check this place out!

The smash burgers are the best we've had! Good food! They also have an ice cream shop inside so next time we'll save room for dessert.

We asked if they had Coke or Pepsi products and she wasn't sure. They got Pepsi products. We started out with the onion straws, they were hand breaded and hot when they arrived to the table. Loved those! We then got a hamburger steak dinner with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. All piping and amazing. This was fresh ground beef and not a frozen patty. We also got the hand breaded pork tenderloin and it was wonderful! Tater tots hot and fresh. I can't say enough about my appreciation for cooked to order food that came to the table hot. This seems to be a foregone art. As if that wasn't enough to eat they have an extensive pie list so being a southerner I opted for the Pecan Pie and while they didn't make it there it was delicious. We were so pleased with our meals that we had the server send the lady who was cooking out to the table and we sat and talked to her for a good 20 minutes. Just a really nice lady and she does a wonderful job cooking. We will surely be back!

This place has been a hit with my "21+" family due to the great food, great location, and usually good service. Minors are not allowed. Our most recent visit yesterday had less than awesome service but maybe she was having a bad day. The building is old with lots of wood paneling ... very comfy. There are several other wonderful restaurants in Fortville which is great for me as I have several choices. I never would have guessed that this tiny suburb would have such epic cuisine!

I love the small town feel!! The restaurant vibe reflects the town. Everyone is very welcoming. I didn't catch bartenders name, but she was very friendly to everyone at her bar. She told us her favorites on the menu. I appreciated her knowledge about the restaurant and the menu. The bar area seemed a little dark, but that actually enhanced the experience of an old bar. We only sat in the bar area, I believe there is additional seating in another room, but I didn't look. I opted for a grilled tenderloin and a cup of beer cheddar jalapeño cheese soup. The sandwich's are Ala carte. The sandwich was bigger than I expected, that would have been enough for lunch. The trick with grilled tenderloin is that many times it is over cooked, so it is dry. This was cooked to perfection; cooked but still moist. The sandwich, with the "garden" was awesome. Now to the soup. I think she said they use wee Mac as the beer. The jalapeño was puréed. There was crispy bacon crumbled on top; I did not care for the bacon. The soup was odd to me as I was eating it. Because of the texture, it reminded me of corn chowder. There was a little spice/flavor from the jalapeño. What was odd to me, was it didn't wow me like I thought it would, but I kept eating it. So in the end, I think I really liked it bc I ate all of it!!! The menu is not large, but has a good variety for its size. The desserts were impressive, I just didn't have room for it. I could easily become a regular there!!

Blueberry Lemon Drop was good, but the Watermelon was my favorite. We also tried the caramel apple and it was good too. For dinner I got the pork tenderloin sandwich with onion rings. Both were delicious and the server said all were made in house. What I loved about the onion rings was the super thick and crunchy beer batter. We also got some sort or chicken bowl that was a lot of food. Came with chips. That's not my particular thing but the person who ordered it loved it. They make all their own dressings and believe me when I tell you the spicy ranch is spicy. I loaded my onion ring up with that ranch and I thought I was going to pass out it was so hot. I still ate it just not as much at one of time. They have plenty of seating at the bar or tables inside and a few outside tables by the street where we saw people take advantage of the nice weather and brought their dogs. They have a small stage where they have live performances, I think someone was coming last night we were just there too early. They have pull tabs for those who are gamblers. But I'm so glad I was hungry and ordered the lasagna. It's a decent amount of food and I think it was the best Lasagna I've ever had. Seriously. It was hopping on a Friday night. I had been wanting to come here for a long time.. Everyone I know says this place is really good. This is a 3.5 star review. The bruschetta was 4 pieces and soggy. It was also 15 dollars. They don't serve table bread for free so I ordered some for $4 and it was about 5 1/2 slices of the same bread they used for the bruschetta. It was served with a bowl of oil with balsamic vinegar. I also asked for my pasta to be saucy and the waitress looked at me and she said, do you mean you want extra sauce? So for $2 extra I feel I got a normal amount of sauce so I'm not sure what a regular amount looks like. Unfortunately the pasta was pre-denté. Everyone else's dishes were steaming hot and the pasta was visibly able to be twirled around a fork. Mine was warm and I had to cut it with a spoon and fork just to get it separated for many bites, which were very chewy, almost hard. The ragù was fine. The atmosphere was nice for dinner. I read some other reviews and they are definitely mixed. One of my friends who had been before warned me after I was excited to initially try the cheese wheel pasta, to be careful. She said hers was wet and vodka flavored, so I didn't get it. Similar reviews said the same. I will say the calamari was some of the best I've had lately. Not chewy at all and a lovely light batter, served with tomato sauce. I did find it odd that the sauce was cold. Everyone else seemed to really enjoy their meals so this gets the 3.5 stars.
