Nestled in Washington Heights, Edge Hotel offers a clean, comfortable, and safe stay. Edge Hotel is Washington Heights first (and maybe still only?) boutique hotel. Blending into the surrounding neighborhood, it took me a minute to see the sign when I arrived via taxi. You enter into a small front desk area (lobby would be generous--there's two small benches, a small snack wall, and the front desk). Elevators are within view of the front desk and will take you with very little waiting straight to you floor. I stayed on the 9th floor, which offered a nice view of the surrounding neighborhood. The rooms are small but clean and comfy. I had a single queen room, which offered a queen sized bed, small desk, TV on the wall at the foot of the bed, and a small wardrobe to hang your clothing. I was able to completely unpack my suitcase which was a plus. The bathroom has a stall shower, which is spacious enough but the bathroom itself is quite small as well and could prove uncomfortable for larger folks. The walls are pretty thin and I was able to clearly hear my neighbor's TV. It wasn't a volume issue because I could also clearly hear them open their blinds each morning. It didn't bother me but if you're a light sleeper, it could be challenging if you had a noisy neighbor (earplugs could be handy, maybe?). They have a small gym available for customers which is always nice. Over the course of my three night stay, I had several interactions with the folks at the front desk and they were all equally lovely. They truly have delightful humans working here who were so considerate and made my stay all the brighter. Get to it! read more

Here for a one week visit. All the desk staff are super friendly and helpful. They've called cabs for us to get back and forth to restaurants, and to Presbyterian Hospital. The hospital is in walking distance, but my husband cannot walk it. Rooms are small but they've done an amazing job of utilizing the space. There's a common room lounge (tables and chairs, sofa, sink and microwave). There's also a small gym. Room are clean, and the price is very good compared to what we expected to pay in NYC! This has been a great find when it's your home during a stressful visit rather than a vacation. read more

I had a work event 10 minutes from the Edge Hotel and there just aren't a lot of options in this part of the city. The person who checked me in was super friendly and the check-in process was easy. I had a super clean room on the top floor. Nice decor, great and eco-friendly bath products. Overall a very good one night stay recently. Here are my stars for each part: Service Staff: 5 Shower: 4 (shower pressure: 5, but leaked through the door to floor: 2) Room size (for Manhattan): 4 View: 5 big windows relative to what I'm used to Quietness: 4 ( Inside noise insulation: 3 Outside noise suppression: 5 ) Also, my room door had to be slammed to close as the frame was too narrow. I'm sure that was not good for my neighbors) Mattress: 5 Bedding: 5 (pillows were excellent) Lighting: 5 Ample electrical sockets: 5 HVAC: Fan white noise: 5, Temp stability: 3 Use of controls: 1 (I had to have a staff member come and fix the controls as they were byzantine and I had unintentionally pushed some buttons that didn't need to be pushed. In brief, you only need to operate the 3 right-most buttons) Check in procedure: 3 (they asked for my credit card for a $100 deposit in addition to the room charge. It was refunded days later). Location for public transportation: 5 (the 1, A, C subways are a 2 min walk away). If plans bring me to this area again, I will return. read more

Definitely a very good hotel, especially if you're solo. The rooms are cozy but you have everything you need to enjoy your stay. The staff is beyond helpful and kind, and they were extremely attentive to my needs. This hotel has an awesome little business center and fitness center in the basement area, and they were completely empty when I was there. I highly recommend taking advantage of those amenities. 4 mins away from the hospital. Stayed here 4 nights and check in wasn't till 1:30pm but they were so accommodating and let us have the first available room at 10am since we knocked out on the couch. We arrived from the airport at 6am so we didn't have much to do besides eat there complimentary breakfast which was decent. Room was small but had the necessities we need plus it was very clean and no aroma whatsoever. A view good view of Washington Heights. I'm sure this hotel has many fine qualities I just didn't see them. The first night in the hotel, doors were slamming and people were talking loudly in the hallways or through the very paperthin walls. Before 6 AM the fire alarm went off and all the power went out. By 11:00pm the elevators still didn't work. The safe in the room was locked and the AC didn't work. It's 80+ degrees in the room. read more

What looked like a cute boutique hotel turned out to be gross. When I went to shower the handle came off in my hand, there were brown stains on my towels and let's not forget the brown water. I was told there was an engineer who was working on it and no manager on duty to help. I am late to a meeting that I came to NY for and have no place to shower or brush my teeth. Do yourself a favor and stay someplace else. The customer service and experience was awful! read more

Close to subway stations, restaurants and others OVerall: 5 stars Cleanliness: 5 stars Service: 5 stars Amenities: 5 stars room quality: 5 stars value: 4 stars Would I go back?: absolutely, but hopefully not for the same reasons Overall: I had to book the hotel for family for recent stay due to medical needs at the nearby (3 blocks away from the hotel) Columbia University Hospital. Fortunately, they have a rate for columbia patients and families, unfortunately, rooms at that rate were sold out. Regardless the staff was fabulous and bent over backwards to accommodate our needs. Cleanliness First thing when you notice when you walk in is that the lobby is tiny. Second thing you notice is that the place is impeccably clean. That extends to the rooms and to the common area in the basement (see below). Very reassuring, since I booked sight unseen (other than marketing pictures on the internet). Service: I dealt with multiple staff over my family's stay. All were extremely friendly and helpful. I needed a taxi, they gladly arranged it. Nobody was snooty, no one was dismissive. Extremely curteous and friendly. Amenities: Despite its tinyness, there is a well stocked excercise room and a common room in the basement for use of guests. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a pool (although if there was, I didn't see it...I just wouldn't be surprised!) Room quality: the only 2 knocks on the room, both very minor: a) size. There is only about 2 feet of space between the foot of the bed from the wall. and b) the thermostat isn't very intuitive to figure out. Again minor. Other than that, room was absolutely fabulous. TV is nice, bathroom is nice, bathroom toiletries are better than your average hotel, towels nice, sheets nice. everything nice. Value: this I scored a 4, but that's because I'm cheap. It's well within ballpark pricing for NYC hotels. Maybe even cheaper than hotels closer to major attractions (I don't know, I purposely booked close to columbia). Would I go back I would highly recommend to anyone who needs a hotel. Unfortunately, i had to book because of medical reasons. But If I needed to book a nyc hotel again, I'd definitely go back. read more

This is my favorite hotel and wish I could give 10 stars The hotel is very clean, have comfortable beds and really nice bathrooms; especially the showers. The staff, on the phone and in person, is very nice, welcoming and professional; especially Dominic who is a diamond. Anywhere else this would be small and cramped, but in NYC, with the entire city as your living room, this place rocks! Well put together, clean and we'll though out rooms. None of the things that drives me nuts like a bathroom door that doesn't open up all the way because the toilet is in the way. No, compact and efficient, clean and neat, I'd come here again. Nice and clean fitness center and a small but serviceable breakfast area. Speaking of the complimentary breakfast, some moderately healthy choices, some of the usual carb and processed food laden decadence (donuts, they have frickin' donuts!!!!), it works for the necessary jumpstart to get you going. I'm staying at Edge Hotel in lieu of an AirBnB studio across the street that was just too edgy. Third time in NYC, this is definitely my luckiest find in the lodging arena. Mario, Maria, and Lili at the front desk are all very friendly. Brandon, in building operations, helped me out with a (silly) door problem I encountered -- it was my first day here... sleep deprived! I was embarrassed, he was gracious. Anyways, this lil (54 room) hotel is SOLID. It's very clean, new and shiny (open less than a year). The rooms are thoughtfully designed, and the bathroom is SWEET. I'll snap a picture of the organizer, a life saver for a small (but really stunning) space. My Standard Queen has plenty of room for one person. Two organized people could survive just fine. Full length mirror. Nice laminate flooring. Big flatscreen. They have a limited number of mini-fridges, but for 10.00 extra a day, one can be reserved. Plenty of plug-ins @ the desk. Comfy chair. The designers nailed the lighting. The window has a sunscreen, and a darkening shade. Bed, sheets, pillows all good. I haven't been to breakfast, but there is a basic offering in a clean room adjacent to the gym -- there are also a couple of guest computers available nearby. So far (knock on wood), it's been quiet. Cherry Tree Gourmet Station: Ten minute walk to an excellent organic grocery-cafe. My meal: Lime chicken with quinoa, kale and avocado salad, sweet potatoes. Open 7am - Midnight. I have to say I very satisfied with such a clean Hotel all around. I felt very safe here by myself going back and forth to the Milkstein Hospital Building at NY Presbyterian. The front desk Zee and Dominic really made me feel so comfortable. They both work well together and were so nice getting to know them. II've traveled in the US and abroad and have never been required to scan my driver's license until staying at The Edge in Washington Heights. I have had my identity stolen before and was told by the police, the bank, and an attorney that people should never allow their driver's license to be scanned as this provides a primary access point for identity theft. I expressed my serious concerns to the man working at the desk and told him he was welcome to look at my driver's license to confirm my identity and I could also privide multiple forms of ID including a government employee ID, but my driver's license just couldn't be scanned for security reasons. I have also stayed at this establishment previously which I also told him. His response, was that I could not stay there without scanning my driver's license. I am a woman traveling alone, nearly 60 years of age, and it was 11:00 pm on a Saturday. Where exactly did he think I was going to go alone at that hour of night? I therefore felt threatened that I would not have a place to stay, so subsequently felt coerced into my driver's license being scanned against my will and after expressing concerns that I could have identity theft issues. There is federal law that protects people from having driver's license scanned except in specific instances and there is no reason for this hotel to do that when it was easy to confirm my identity with the multiple identifications offered, the fact that I have stayed there before, and my hotel room was already paid for without identity issues or fraud flags. AARP reports that there were more than 42 million identity theft cases in the US in 2021, and many are due to employees having access to credit card and scanned drivers license information. I understand confirming a person's identity and I took no issue with that. It did not, however, require the scanning of my driver's license or threatening me with not being able to check into the room I had already paid for. Please don't stay here unless you want to be ripped off. They are running some sort of scam! DO NOT STAY HERE unless you enjoyed being treated poorly and double charged.You know something's up when you check in and the employees don't wear name tags - they don't want you to be able to report them when they humiliate and treat you poorly. We made our reservation thru hotels.com - have confirmation number showing one room with 2 beds. On Wednesday (before we arrived on Saturday) - our card was charged twice what the confirmed price was. I called Wednesday night to make sure our reservation was correct. Person I spoke with was very friendly and said there would be no issue at check-in on Saturday. Fast forward to Saturday and here's how that went: The front desk person asked "how are you?" When I replied "Well", he got really loud and said "WHAT? Is that ALL?" It was uncomfortable. He had done the same to my son who walked in ahead of us. I gave my name and he said we had two rooms; I explained my booking was for one room with two beds. He said it was two rooms and a comment was made about booking thru hotels.com, implying we were wrong to do that. We were told they didn't have any rooms with two beds (again, my hotels.com reservation confirms otherwise) and that our only option was to take the two rooms, which we had to do. I figured we could clear it up when we returned home. TODAY, I have spent over three hours online with hotels.com and called the hotel directly. It appears someone is pocketing some money somewhere, as best we can tell. read more

Edge Hotel is a basic property uptown (168 St. & Amsterdam in Washington Heights). It's a smart choice if you need easy access to NY Presbyterian Hospital (just one block away), or if you're visiting people in the area and want your own private spot to retreat to. However, if you're a tourist planning to explore NYC, I'd highly recommend staying in midtown or downtown, and not in this area (about 7 miles north of midtown). The rooms are cozy (i.e. - tiny), but the bathrooms are modern and comfortable. The rooms feature an AC unit and a humidifier (nice touch!). The hotel is clean in general, and housekeeping service was on point during my 3-night stay. The rate I paid included breakfast. However, Edge Hotel does NOT serve breakfast. The (polite and pleasant) reception staff will hand you a $5 voucher for a bagel shop a block away. If your breakfast order exceeds this amount, you'd be required to pay the balance. I was greatly disappointed to find out about their early check-in policy. They require an extra $57 fee if you arrive early and want to check-in before 3pm, even when rooms are ready and available. This is pretty much unheard of anywhere else, and was upsetting to discover after a long red-eye flight. Bottom line - if you need to stay in this part of town, Edge is a good basic choice (definitely better than most Airbnb's in this area, and there are no other hotels nearby). But if you're a tourist visiting NYC - stay where the action is, in midtown or downtown. You will also save the early check-in fee if you arrive before 3pm. read more

My family and I just stayed here from Saturday thru Monday and I just wanted to thank the staff who were so kind and helpful, excellent customer service! Thank you to V and Rich at the front desk and the cleaning staff who did an excellent job with our room. From the moment we arrived with our rental car, they allowed us to park right out front so we can get our luggage out. V was very helpful with some of my questions and it was no hassle checking in. The room is modern but very clean. We have 2 small children and we all fit, everything in the room was functional. Water pressure was good, the bathroom was in excellent condition. There is free continental breakfast from 7-9 which was a pleasant surprise to me because I actually did not know about it. The hotel is a block away from the subway which we used throughout our trip. Rich called a car for us the morning of our flight and the car arrived like 4 minutes after and we were on our way to JFK with no problems. read more

We cannot thank the Edge Hotel and its staff enough for a great weekend. We got married this past weekend and got my sister a room at the hotel so she could stay and help my wife get ready, etc. The room was impeccably clean, very cozy, and just perfect - right here in the Heights! The staff was so friendly and helpful, they made us feel like VIPs. They were gracious and accommodated any requests we had! On top of all of this, the Edge saved our wedding reception! We had planned on having dinner (9 people total) on the rooftop of our apartment building, but the weather forecast changed and thunderstorms looked likely. The Edge let us use their meeting room at an affordable rate with almost no notice. The room was perfect - an area for the food, an area to relax, and an area to dine. It was very comfortable and the design/decor was really cool. We had a lovely dinner and a beautiful wedding reception. We are going to recommend this hotel to anyone coming to NYC, but especially those visiting us in our home in Washington Heights! read more

I found this hotel thru United Palace after buying some concert tickets. I read previous reviews and they seemed pretty fair so I went ahead and booked it for an overnight. It was a great surprise, it is not your typical hotel that you are used to, it's very small but service, location and amenities are what I enjoyed the most. Upon arrival, our room wasn't ready but we were offered a call and to sit by their lounge located on the lower level C. We sat there for some time and then we headed back to finish the check in process which it went very smooth. Our room was on the 6th floor (first floor where rooms are located). We were upgraded to a standard double with 2 double beds (these are tucked in corners so they definitely are very quiet, I didn't hear one ambulance siren. If you don't care to be on different beds for your stay this a great room category) room was on the small side (it is a boutique hotel) but very cozy and modern, it had everything we needed. Simple but nicely decorated, we didn't care for the view (i mean this hotel is located in the middle of a neighborhood, can't expect to have city views but you can see some far away) but we didn't go for the views either. It's is a newly renovated hotel so everything is new. We were very pleased with our room, the hotel in general and we are definitely coming back since everything is near and walking distance. This hotel reminded us a lot our hotel stay in Barcelona, Spain. It had that same European feel and it had everything we needed. We found an excellent outside parking, used Uber to move to and from the hotel to further places and we felt safe throughout our stay. Check out was also very smooth and we just can't wait to return. Kudos to the Edge Hotel team, you guys are the best asset of the property. You could tell that these guys have a lot of pride on what they do, cause it really shows. read more

If you wan a taste of what living in New York is like, this is the place. The hotel itself is loud at night when you're trying to sleep between the elevators clanking and people slamming doors. This hotel is fairly new and you can tell. The rooms were clean. Service was fast as one day we stepped out for lunch, came back to a freshly cleaned room. We even took advantage of the fitness center which has treadmills, exercise bikes ellipticals, weights and more. The staff were all very friendly. I stayed at this hotel for a weekend summit and the staff was so friendly and accommodating, especially with a rather large group they were especially patient throughout the entire process of booking, checking in and out. This hotel is rather new so the rooms are in great condition with its own thermostat. I stayed in a deluxe double which was comfortable for 5 people. We had two on each bed and I was on the floor. I asked for an extra comforter and a few towels and the staff delivered it to our room quickly! I appreciated their service and they didn't seem to mind making 5 room keys for each of us. The hotel has a modern charm to it and I enjoyed that there was a space to workout, wifi and breakfast available here. Overall, my stay with Edge was comfortable and enjoyable! read more

I have stayed at this hotel about 10 times so far (when I'm in NYC, I work in the Bronx). This is the nicest boutique hotel! Very modern; rooms are small, clean, and streamline. The staff are always friendly and helpful, suggesting places to walk for eating and shopping. The metro is about one block away, as are various restaurants and, about 8 or 9 blocks away, shopping. It's a clean and convenient hotel close to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Our baby had to have the first of many surgeries in the month of April. We scheduled 4 nights but only stayed 1 night because my husband and I both stayed in the hospital. I had no problem with the fact that they we kept our luggage in hotel and of course were responsible for the bill. Unexpectedly for the last night our son was discharged early so at 5:00 I went to checkout and I was charged for that night. We have many more surgeries to come but will no longer be staying there. It would have been nice for the manager to cut us some slack for that last night. read more
