my wife and her friends visited this place for a bachelorette trip, and a "regular customer" according to the manager of this bar sexually assaulted her friend and yelled at them in their face when they got upset about it, the manager did absolutely nothing, and blatantly said "well I didn't see anything happen" they asked for them to pull the camera footage and the manager yet again said they couldn't do anything. Don't come to this bar unless you want to be assaulted for standing at the side of the bar eating for your sister to use the bathroom as opposed to the front where you order. The Library is an okay bar and I mean that in every sense of the word. We paid $13.50 for a whiskey sour there, criminal. The vibe was decent with the upstairs being a bit packed. There's some arcade games and pool tables to play but the tables are not well kept and hogged. Also, the constant drink spilling upstairs creates drops that come through the ceiling if you're on the ground floor. The DJ was solid and there was some dancing which redeems a few points for this place but to sum it up: there are better bars, even on Dirty Sixth. read more

DONT GO HERE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR SAFETY! This place is horrible and stinks and their drinks were disgusting tbh. Went for a bach trip, waited in line for 20 mins to take photos at their Photo Booth. Once the people looked like they were done the group squeezed in. the group that was currently occupying that were 'interrupted' had cut us in like already but we let them go anyways and still waited for 20 mins while they stood in the booth taking selfies not even with the machine but with their phones...The people got angry and the two grown women whom appeared to be in their late forties, a good 250 lbs each, jumped a small 100lb 20 year old. The bar kicked both parties out after doing nothing to stop the fight of 4 mins. They helped with nothing in getting these women's faces for pressing charges when we begged for help. read more

There are a lot of bars on 6th street and if you're not a local it's hard to know which are the best. We stopped in after the Usher concert on a Monday. This place had a good number of people who were dancing and having a good time. The DJ as great and the bartenders were lively and energetic. The drinks were on point. Overall I would visit again if in Austin, pretty good vibe compared to other bars we stopped in. read more

loved going here at one point, i usually got up on the bar to dance. my boyfriend, friends and I have gone in multiple times, till one night the red headed doorman decided not to let my boyfriend in due to his "athletic pants" they were light grey cargo pants, they then however let a white man in with the same pants just black who was standing a group behind us. When I noticed this I confronted the doorman to which he proceeded to tell me he didn't notice the other guys pants so I called him a weirdo to which he stated " I might be". I should preface by saying we came at 7:30 and it was nearly empty but there was a good live artist on Saturday night. It's one of the few places that had champagne and it was $2.50! What?! Never been here and came during a Christmas bar crawl and I was really impressed w the decor and layout and of course the music! It is a two story option bar, more seating upstairs for a more relaxed and lounge feel, downstairs was much more rowdy and close quarters and standing room. Upstairs there are a few games in the back corner and another bar to aid in refills. Overall I'd love to come back and check it out. Are you a 49er fan? if so this was why we came here for the playoffs. It has been a few years and there are a few other hot tickets in town. This place had several cool spots to chill, have a few drinks and relax with your friends. Upstairs is a cool chilled out vibe. Drinks were super decently priced. Parking downtown is always an issue but I always love that they give free diet cokes/soda for designated drivers bc let's face it someone has to get us home from all the fun! Reposting with adherence to guidelines because Yelp took down my previous post: Bartender with man-bun (Never got name) acted and smelled intoxicated. Continuously acted aggressively towards our group and falsely accused a member of our group of throwing a can behind the bar. Bouncer eventually came in and started to aggressively yell, push, and jerk at members of my party completely unwarranted. Made a remark as I was leaving the bar to the bartender about his haircut which enraged him enough to leave his position at the bar and confront me to my face before I completely ignored him and walked out. Completely deranged not to mention grossly unprofessional, clearly this individual has major problems. This was a couple years ago but yelp notified me that my original post was deleted due to some unsavory language about the bartender. This incident was so bad that it compelled me to re-write the review just so people know what kind of business this is, albeit under the guidelines of Yelp. read more

This is a large bar located on 6th street. It's two stories and full of games like corn hole, shuffle board, and board games all around. There's instagramable spots all around to take selfies with your friends. We went during the week so it wasn't very busy or difficult to get a drink from the bar. We were told to hit 6th Steet while in Austin and we did. We stopped into the Library to check it out and have a Texas Crafted beer. We asked our bartender, Gunner, what to try and he poured us a pale ale. It was good and it was very cold. The Library has a lot of books on the wall and an upper has an upper loft and a room where live music is played. We were there during the day and it was kinda quiet. I asked Gunner where was a good place to eat and he said "The Casino El Camino". He said it's the best hamburger in Austin but it's kinda weird. Hey if the foods good I'll put up with weird. I came in here on a Sunday night for the first time ever in my 7yrs in Austin. I am a die-hard bookworm, but have avoided this place on Dirty 6th because it always looked like one of the frat-boy/WOO-girl capitals of Austin where the last thing anyone in there read was a scoreboard. However, the crowd there on a Sunday night was not nearly as bad. It was still a sausagefest (my friend and I were two of all 4 visible girls downstairs), but at least the guys that were in there seemed adult-esque and the only "woo-ing" was aimed at a football game on the tvs. The bartenders here are where it's at though...they are all the typical "hot chicks", but I loved them because they had sass and personality and weren't just there to jiggle their goodies for tips. They actually know how to make drinks and mine made a mean whiskey-coke! Seriously, the two that I had were waaaay more whiskey than coke and that was totally fine by me.They also had a great DJ spinning some early 90's throwbacks that were on point and the guys my friend and I befriended turned the entryway into a dancefloor recruiting people to dance with us as they walked in. Way more fun than I was expecting to have at this place. In any case, I learned a valuable lesson on Dirty that night: Sundays are the night to go when you don't want to deal w/the "regulars" that usually haunt that part of 6th street and maybe some bars are like "books", where you can't always judge them by their "cover" (implied pun(s) intended). read more

Deep pours trumped uneven service - our first, agreeable (lady) bartender left us with an off-putting (dude) one - and of course, I had a Yeah Baby shot, tasty and refreshing. All our drinks weren't expensive at all, and they had no credit card minimum. The Library is spacious and well-kept[1], with multiple floors, room for a good-sized crowd. Bookshelves line the length of the place, but they're purely for decor. At least, I didn't try reading anything. As for music, their mix was delivered from an iPod on crack: country tunes one moment, reggae the next, with a sprinkle of Sara Bareilles for good measure. [1] Not so sure about the bathrooms. It was my birthday and 6th street did not disappoint. Even though it was a Tuesday the music was loud and the drinks were flowing. We popped into two bars, this was the more crowded of the two, but service was quick and very friendly. I want to give 0. I went there to have fun with a group of people. It was fine at first but then, one guy got arrested coz of the dispute with a male bartender coz apparently , that guy was ordering drinks for us the whole time. Maybe they thought he was ordering for himself but he was not, he was ordering on behalf of us the whole time. We didn't even see what happened. Coz one second he was pushed on the wall by the bartender and the next second , he was pushed outside the bar and the police arrested him. We were so angry coz literally , the bar was gonna close soon , like in 30minutes , and we had to deal with that. never coming back here again. read more

As you might expect, it's very loud with music playing. There's really no place to sit. It's just a long hallway with a bar. Maybe there's a place to sit upstairs. I didn't venture up there. We were sat pretty quickly but the servers blatantly ignored someone in our group several times which we didn't love. The drinks came fast and were mixed well. The way their checks come out is very confusing. It's broken down in a very confusing way so make sure if you guys plan to split the check everyone is okay with just throwing a card down. Trying to figure out who got what after was confusing even the bartender who tried to explain it didn't love the system but was very nice with our questions. I'm sure they get them a lot. Usually have a great time here but this last experience was really upsetting. Politely asked for 2 lemon drops shots with a smile, said thanks and gave an appropriate tip for the service while the bartender had an attitude. Took a sip and it tasted like straight up lemonade. Waited to go back when a different bartender was available, it was crowded but not running around busy. I brought back the completely full shots and asked for either a remake or a new one of the same value. The original bartender came up and said with an attitude "you just saw me pour it from the bottle" and I explained again. They looked straight at me and walked away. I understand it was from the bottle but whatever was in the bottle or shot glass was watered down lemon juice. You don't have the highest of expectations on dirty 6 but the response was disrespectful. read more

Not an Austin native but will usually always come here whenever we're in Austin and on sixth. Last night was probably one of the worst nights we ever had here. Place is chill and fun and usually a blast but this review is for the most disrespectful, hostile, worst service giving bartender we ever had to deal with. (Don't quote me on the name but I think it was Julian. Tall, dark hair, ponytail) Our group order 3 bottles and we know that this is not the type of place where you would expect bottle service, which is completely fine. We had to get our own bottles from the bar and chasers then walk to our own table. Again completely fine but they also slap an automatic gratuity of 20%. We still paid and went to go enjoy our drinks. Was having a good time til near the end this hostile bartender came and rudely told the girls to get off the couch because we were waterfalling. He ran up from behind the bar to yell and scream. No one was drunk we were just having a good time and the way he approached us was just rude. This is the same bartender who got the grat for the bottle orders. After this happened it was just a buzzkill and ruined our mood so we ended up leaving. Before leaving we approached him and told him next time maybe he should come check on us periodically if we were ok, if we needed anything, instead of the only time coming up to us to yell at our group for just standing on the couch. After telling him, he got really aggressive, super defensive and ran to get the manager. We got to speak to the manager, Aaron who by the way say how his employee was acting tried to make it right. All I told him is he needs to have a better controlled employee. Our group wasn't drunk so we didn't act out in anger back to the bartender but if there were anyone in a drunk group, it could've easily been a fight with the way the bartender was up in one of the guys face. I told Aaron all we wanted was to take back the 20% gratuity that was automatically charge to the bill. I didn't think he deserved a dollar of that amount. He was able to honor it and was super respectful to us. What a mood killer for the night. After reading some reviews of this place it seems like it might not be the first time this bartender has been aggressive and hostile. Just wanted to share my story. read more

We visit Austin about once a year and love doing 6th Street. This used to be one of our favorites. When we visited, we were the only people in the bar...mainly because we are early people now. Staying out until 2:00 just isn't our scene now that we are 40ish. The bartender was dismissive and really just ignored us. We had one beer and left. read more

I'm actually a big fan of the Library Bar. I want to say it isn't because I've been here more times on sixth than any other bar... but still it's a good bar. They have nightly specials until 11 PM which are really good and pretty good nightly specials until close thereafter. The drinks are cheap, the alcohol is plentiful and the bartenders are friendly. They really give this place a chill, dive bar atmosphere, the tables may be a little sticky but the whole ambiance kind of makes up for it. Nice bathrooms as well and not always a super long line for the women's. There is an upstairs area, but I fee like more for people spying on other people downstairs. Overall, recommended, but do realize this IS a dive bar. read more
