Not what we expected. We were expecting a quaint and nostalgic experience and a comfortable stay at a historic inn. What we felt that we received was an overnight stay at a consignment store for elderly people. The staff was nice, the sheets were clean, and the floors were vacuumed mostly. If this were a budget hotel, then we would have considered that we got what we paid for. Considering that we paid considerably more, we felt the need to at least notify others of our experience. The first thing we noticed was the smell. It smelled like an elderly home estate sale. Opening the windows was a necessity to air it out. Because it was cold outside we needed heat. The heater was an electric heater that looked like it was from the 50's. It did a poor job heating the room. The beds were hard, lumpy and squeaky. The pillows were flat and there was not enough of them. The bathrooms had been cleaned, but the tiles grout was severely stained. Stains were everywhere. Ceilings, walls, carpet, sheets, furniture... dilapidation and lack of care was evident everywhere. But, at least we had breakfast to look forward to in the morning. Oh yeah, the breakfast. There was a waffle maker with batter. That was fine. You had eggs cooked to order as long as you liked scrambled eggs. A hockey puck flavored biscuit and gravy with a side of banana was also available and that was it. Don't expect a continental breakfast. Juice, milk and Folgers coffee were the beverages. The eating arrangements were relatively clean but were had full view of the kitchen that looked like a hoarder was storing egg cartons and boxes for the upcoming apocalypse. Needless to say, my family was a bit upset. We paid for two days, but my family refused to stay there for a second night. So we dropped off our key at the front desk and left. Yes it is a physical key. Not a big deal but there is a $250 dollar fee if you lose it. Just a heads up. There is a no refund policy, so we didn't even bother to ask to get any sort of refund for leaving early. Nor was a refund offered by the manager either as we checked out. We just went to a different hotel and had a much better experience there for the same price. Hope this helps. read more

My friend booked this room for the night, as a stop on the road. For the price point, I can't recommend it, and would recommend the other budget chain hotels nearby in Florence (Travelodge, etc) as the price was about the same as other budget hotels. We stayed for 1 night. There's a lot of small gripes with the place, rather than any one notable downside. My friend stayed in a carpeted room, and the carpet was pretty filthy (keep your shoes on). My room was wood floored but had dust bunnies galore, and they happily swirled around with the fan on (no AC, so I had the fan on to get some air from the outside in). The shower was iffy on being a shower, with it hard to get the water flowing out the shower head instead of into the bath. Bath was a bit grimy, with the caulking looking really old. Small tubes of lotion, shampoo and conditioner are included. There were small bugs (ants and very small flies), but nothing bigger. For the positives, there's a TV and microwave and mini fridge. The decor was nicely lighthouse themed and the bed was okay and had clean sheets. Noise at night wasn't too bad considering proximity to the road, and the provided box fans made for good white noise. The breakfast was not that great. A lot of DIY, meaning, there are eggs, but you'll have to crack them from their shells/carton and cook them yourself. Biscuits and gravy were provided but the gravy was not warm. My room was on the 2nd floor, and I didn't see an elevator, but also didn't search too hard for it. There's an elderly man staffing Lighthouse, who was very kind and welcoming for the place and helped me find things in the kitchen/breakfast area. His efforts were welcome, and probably the highlight if I had to pick something. Why the 1 star? If you're looking for a motel/budget hotel, ideally it would be clean and cheap and no frills, and you can expect some age/griminess for a spot you wouldn't want to stay in for more than a night. However, this fell below those expectations, especially as there's other bigger chain budget options in town for about the same/cheaper price that have a more standard minimum bar. read more

This place is historic, definitely leaning towards the "run down" category, and not the cleanest place you'll ever stay. If I was doing the marketing for them, I'd call it "rustic" to be kind. On the other hand, the location is great and the price is definitely affordable. As others have mentioned, breakfast is weird, not delicious, and I can't recommend eating it. Beds and other furniture were worn down, and decor seems to be sourced from garage sales and thrift stores. But the owner was super nice and in general we enjoyed our stay. But if you are accustomed to even normal chain motel amenities, you will not want to lodge here. read more

My husband and I made reservations here because it had good reviews and scored a 7. When we checked in we should have ran. Behind the check in counter it looked like a hoarders house. We over looked this. As we walked upstairs to our room, the floors were littered with debrise. We got to our room and it was simple, simple is okay and it seemed clean. Bathroom was clean. There was dirty lined in the armor, an out let that had its cover dangling, and an extension cord run under the bed. There was no air conditioning. Thank goodness the window opened. It was a super hot day so we had to sleep with the overhead fan on and window open. We paid $170 for the night. It was barely worth $70. Whoever owns this place is not keeping up on the maintenance or care, too bad as it is a good location and close to old down town. read more

My husband, our small dog and I stayed for one night and had a great experience. We reserved our room online, so when we saw the inn's humble exterior, we were slightly worried. I'll be honest, the building is older. My husband requested a ground-floor room and indicated that we were traveling with our dog, so the owner gave us a quiet room in the back of the building, which was perfect. There was a small yard right outside our door where we could take the dog. The room was clean, and we found a basket with small bags of potato chips on the table. The mattress wasn't the greatest, but the sheets were also clean. Breakfast was handmade by the owner and was great. We appreciated that the inn was truly dog friendly without weird rules, e.g. no dogs on the bed or the like. The best part was the proximity to Old Town and a delicious Hawaiian restaurant, which was basically in location's parking lot. We found a great coffee stand within walking distance. All around, we had a good experience and would happily stay here again. read more

Visited inn during music event in city. Friends staying there complained about the run down condition. Their rented room had hair in the sink. Being there for a meeting there were filthy carpets, no obvious bathroom and horribly messy "kitchen" where apparently guests were advised to cook their own food. Trash cans were overflowing, grime & dirty dishes, counters, food containers filled this "kitchen" . Finally, a restroom was located that contained rolled up rugs, more overflowing trash, half used supplies etc, and this was accessible through the eating area . I did glance into a couple rooms with doors open and the guest rooms looked tidy. But the lobby and all purpose gathering spaces were shameful..especially when the inn is recommended as a supporting business for the music event. read more

Stay 1: Was booked with travel agency, fraudulently posing as owners. We showed up on my birthday weekend, were told the room booked was unavailable and had to pay more for another room out of pocket. I believe Eric scams people at will like many other reviews mention. I gave them a business card because I felt like I wanted to help them out. My card indicated very clearly that I have been a licensed and bonded general contractor since 2008. I have stayed at the inn before these folks owned it and was much more impressed with the service and quality of upkeep. Things that didn't function stay 1: Main light/fan, bedside lamps, Remote to TV, multiple electrical outlets, chipping paint at the deck that most likely contains lead. Asked Eric the owner to fix it and he seemed to act like it was an inconvenience. Stay #2: Rhody Weekend. I called, Eric's wife answered, told me the room would be $300.28 for Saturday/Sunday, almost double what was advertised and what we paid last time for a similar room! 15 to 20 minutes later I get a phone call from her again asking if we would be willing to work a few hours to help out for Thursday/Friday stays, I told her I would think about it and call her back. About an hour later I called back and said sure that sounded OK and we chatted about moving some furniture out of a room and sweeping the main parking lot with a "Lot sweeper" she said they had. Upon arrival late Thursday night, tired from the drive we called them as they asked and his wife came to the door and let us in. She had me sign a paper with ((((NO))) total cost on it and said the furniture moving would not be happening and we would talk about it more the next morning (Friday) they gave us only one key to two rooms and no front door key. Also stating we could sleep in because the carpet install was delayed. Next morning at approximately noon we spoke with Eric about what needed to be done, after seeing the tools he was providing it became clear this man has no idea about grounds keeping of this size. A sweeper meant for a 2 to 3 foot wide walk way, a pair of old basic loppers and an electric weed Wacker that looked 20 years old with no guard, two foot of string hanging out and a 100 ft extention cord that looked like it got hit with the wacker string many times, exposed wires and so forth. The weed Wacker did not work and thank goodness because when I was wrapping the cord back up I found all the exposed wires. The amount of work spoken of was always a few hours, I'm not sure Eric knows what a few hours of work looks like. His expectations would have been more like 10 to 15 hours of work. I did use the loppers and did a fine job on the bushes, cleaned up most of the debris with the rake they provided that was maybe 8 inches wide and looked like a plastic child's toy. I talked with Eric and told him we were done, and that next time if we were to do this again I would bring my professional tools I use to maintain my own 2 acre property on the outskirts of Eugene (gas chainsaws, hedge trimmers, mowers and gas weedwackers) so to get more done in that same allotted time. This was literally like using a spoon to empty a lake! Honestly if they wouldn't have offered this deal we would have only stayed one night, and with him saying they had tools and minimizing the amount of work he wanted done this would not have happened. I have been a Professional Business Owner for 18 years and currently own two businesses, A Construction Company with a Fantastic reputation and an Event Production Company. When asked Eric lied about total payment, on the phone when Confronted continued to make excuses, even after he was advised I had recorded all of our conversations on the phone because that is my business practice to avoid issues with people like this. Eric should elect to refund our entire stay at this point. In conclusion, dishonest business practices, customer service, terrible grounds keeping, bad attitude. His wife does work very very hard though. Maybe her lead would be better suited for this business for a more successful future! read more

I had work to do while my friends camped so I stayed here to work at night for wifi. The connection was too weak to do anything. The desk said to try "all" of their connections (there are like 4 or 5 labeled lighthouse) for the strongest one. Over and over and over I entered their password, trying them all. Fade, wait, nothing. Over and over and over. I checked out and was told that I can't have a refund for the next night because that requires 48 hours notice. So I stayed one night and paid for two. Also, the window wouldn't lock, and the wind made it flap in the frame all night long. The bed sank almost to the frame. Don't stay here. Update. I think they credited the second night (the one I didn't stay) after I wrote this. If so, thanks. read more

My small dog and I stayed in room number six, a pet friendly room. Just because you let a dog stay in the room doesn't mean that the room should be shabby. It smelled so strongly of mildew that I threw out open the door and windows. I got out some enzyme spray that I had in the car and went over the floor. The refrigerator stank (it was dirty) when I opened the door so I sprayed that down as well. The outdoor area could use a good sweeping and clean up - you can see from the pictures what a dump this particular room is. It is called an "historic motel" - that is no excuse for the dilapidated condition. Maybe the non-pet rooms are better. If it wasn't a Saturday afternoon in the summer I would have asked for a refund and found another room. The lobby is cute with lots of games and puzzles and the hosts were pleasant enough. read more

I loved the history of a place built in the 1930's, and the old/antique furnishings seemed to fit. Our bedding and towels were clean, and the floors in the room were adequately clean, but overall the hotel needed TLC and a good cleanup, inside and out. The room was warm and windows wouldn't open. Breakfast...was not good. There was only a waffle maker, and a tasteless type of biscuits and gravy, ...but the gravy was cold, so I put my plate in the microwave and it was filthy inside.The large trash can in the kitchen was filled to the brim at the start of the day, so I realized it had been accumulating for days. Coffee was good. We had two nights reservations, so we stayed and ate out for breakfast. read more

The lighthouse is a great historic hotel. I like that there is a very unique setup. The rooms are smaller, cozy, and really nice. I don't know what they do, but there is a really nice clean smell to the room. It's hard to explain but it's very nice. The price is very good, and the atmosphere is so homey. The only downside is that if you aren't careful you can see into the rooms from the outside, and by that I don't mean like a little window, I mean like the door is a glass sliding door, and if you don't make sure your curtains are closed well, then Peter the perv can easily look in on you. In fact, I accidentally saw the butt of the lady in the room above me. So, by all means, close the curtain. That said, Sheryle and I had no problem keeping the curtain closed, and I for one am very glad of that. read more

When I first walked into the inn I was greeted by a very nice woman, who had a bird on her shoulder, "Molly" I was hesitant in that the inn felt like a persons house and I was renting a bedroom from them. I stayed in room 15, it was homey, clean, I was by myself so there was 1 queen bed, TV, microwave and small fridge. I had a walkout balcony. The bathroom was large, had a shower, nice window had a good breeze coming in. I was comfortable in my surroundings. I slept good, but the bed was hard, I had the ceiling fan on. I heard no noise from the roads. For those of you that are super picky, I don't recommend this inn for you. It is a older place, but my room was nice and reasonable for a weekend stay. Oh and she left me a basket of snacks on the bed. I did not take part in there breakfast or check out the kitchen. read more

We stayed in the upstairs king suite with a private entrance and balcony. It was highly affordable, particularly in comparison to similarly sized rooms in the area. It had two king beds and a pull out couch, and tons of room. The internet is super slow. We appreciated the smart TV in the room but then we weren't able to actually watch anything. The hotel is right off a main road but they provided earplugs in the rooms which was a nice touch. They also left a basket of snacks which my kiddos definitely appreciated. Now, during Covid, they are still offering hot breakfast in the morning delivered to your door without charge, which we enjoyed together. It was outdated and a little dusty but it was quaint, clean, and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful and accommodated our late check in. We'll stay again. read more

We booked a room for Saturday during 2024 Rhody Fest. Around 15 minutes after we made the booking they called us back and asked if the offer we made the last time we stayed was still good (my boyfriend is a general contractor and told them if they needed any work done to give him a call) we said of course and he stated they needed furniture moved out of a room Friday morning to prep for new carpet and the parking lot swept for a total of "a couple hours of work" he stated he had all the tools to do it and offered us Thursday and Friday night to stay. We told him sure but we wouldn't be there till late Thursday night (11:30pm) when we got there that night the lady informed us that the carpet install was delayed so furniture didn't need to be moved till Sunday but it would still be only a couple hours of work in exchange for the nights they offered. Well, when we got up and going Friday (we had 4 kids with us ranging from 4 years old to 14 years old) he started with the "sweeper" for the 3 parking lots. He gave us a tiny hand push sweeper meant for small walkway sidewalks and a wheel barrow. Me with the help of my teenagers it took us from 12pm till 2:30pm to get the lots done (plus while we were doing this we had to keep the 4 and 6 year olds happy) when I told him the wheelbarrow was getting heavy and asked where to dump it he first said "I don't know if this is legal" and then told me he wanted my teenager to walk it 3 blocks away to fill potholes. I refused it and he gave me attitude. After the 3rd time I told him I was not going to have them walk it that far he gave in and had them dump it by the mailbox out front. While we were working on the lots he wanted my boyfriend (who is a general contractor not yard maintenance) to trim and shape the bushes on the far side of the building, cut the grass in the back and cut and remove ivy around a tree. To do these tasks he gave my BF a weedwacker that had no guard and a foot and a half of string sticking out and an extension cord that looked like it got into a knife fight (come to find out it didn't even work) and hand clippers for the bushes and ivy. It took my BF from 12pm till 2:30pm just to cut and shape the large amount of bushes BY HAND! After we completed the couple of hours of work we were told to do in exchange for the stay we went about our weekend. The room was nasty, carpet was wavy and very worn, paint was peeling, the dryrot inter the doorframe that caused the door to the patio not to close, lamp didn't work, no remote in one room, the tv in the main room wouldn't connect to the internet (it is a Roku tv the is a hit and miss on what services are logged in on what tv) the beds are so worn they are uncomfortable and the list goes on. My daughters were cover in bug bites, we stayed at the lighthouse inn a couple weeks before this and the same thing happened, but we thought maybe it was sand fleas or something from the beach, but this time we didn't even get close to the beach. So the only pieces that matched there was where we were staying. On Sunday we watched the parade and after it was over started packing up our stuff to head home. The owner (Eric) then walked up to our door and told me and my BF that he was ready for us to move the furniture whenever we were ready. My BF told him nicely that we were going to head out and that he was willing to pay an extra $100 for the stay, that we had already put in the couple of hours they told us we needed to do for the extra nights and we were not going to move the furniture. Eric again gave attitude and interrupted my BF by loudly saying "NO". We again told him we put in the work already and were leaving. Eric then said he would charge us and walked away. When we turned in the keys my BF asked him how much TOTAL would he be charged and Eric answered $300. We checked the account and there was a charge of $300.28 for our Saturday booking and we went home but the story doesn't end there. Monday we see he charged us another $300, refuses to return it saying we didn't do any of the work that was requested of us. read more

We have been coming here for a very long time. But has been 5 yrs since last stay. Was very disappointed. Unfortunately the back of the building is very junky (squatters are taking over) . The room was not very good even tho "redecorated" the furniture is placed in such a way to make it difficult to get around. The bed is a HAZARD due to metal frame that we constantly hit our toes on trying to get around. I know this is an old building and thats part if the charm. But unfortunately SHABBY is taking over. Owners are trying and very nice.will give it another try and hope they can get rid of the squatters. read more

When you walk into the lobby there is a community area with a fireplace a couple of sofas and tables with board games. The room I had was somewhat small but not cramped. This place is old and funky in a good way. Everything was in good working order and clean. Comes with a TV and plenty of channels and streaming services to watch and free WIFI. There is also a free breakfast with waffles, biscuts and gravy , instant oatmeal, juice, milk, coffee and tea and probably a few other items I'm forgeting about. We were greeted pleasantly by an older guy who seemed happy to help . We stayed in room 26 and it seemed like any other room for an inn. I had dropped a belonging of mine onto the floor and as I picked it up I noticed a lot of garbage that was left behind by previous occupants. I do feel for the price we paid for the room and all others the owners should afford to do something with the place. The carpet seemed older than me and I am in my 40s. The guy that greeted us offered a free breakfast when we checked in. I accepted only to have biscuits you could skip across a river and gravy that was very cold. Greatly appreciated the efforts he made but I wouldn't recommend the biscuits and gravy for breakfast. I would recommend this place only as last resort of hotels in the area and after an inspection of the room. read more

It's a trip back in time, and that's not a bad thing. Back when TVs were black and white, and cars had fins and whitewalls, this was the place to stay. It still is, in my opinion. The Lighthouse Inn has years of accumulated charm. The lobby is large and welcoming with comfortable furniture and games and puzzles. You might actually have a conversation (gasp!) with a fellow traveler while lingering there. The nicest people are running the show, whose cheer gave the place a "home away from home" warmth that you wouldn't expect in a budget motel. And yes, it is a budget motel. You reviewers who want a swanky room and all the amenities need to move on. Each room is unique in decor; nothing is brand new, but everything is clean and inviting. We stayed here 5/6,7/2019. We paid about 215.oo per nite(with taxes) and were so disappointed. So much money for so little.Best I can say was it was centrally located and bed was comfortable. Decent place to stop for a night while driving down the coast. Very cheap motel and yup you get what you pay for which is not much. Tacky decor, our room was a poker theme... Noise wasn't bad except for some weird fog horn noise that happened a couple of times, I think it was something to do with the bathroom in the room above me. There's a window in the shower which is weird and the shower head is very low... Like I'm 5'3 and I had to bend down to get under it. Good amount of parking, wifi worked fine for me, and staff was friendly even when we checked in at 9pm. If your travelling on a budget it's not bad. read more

We booked a room at the Lighthouse Inn in Florence, Oregon, from Monday night July 5, 2021 through Wednesday night July 7th, 2021. We were supposed to leave Thursday before 11:00 am checkout time. When we first got into the room, we noticed that it was a west-facing room, and that there were no window coverings on the bathroom window. The bathroom window was painted shut, so it would not open, which made it extremely hot in the bathroom because there was no air conditioning in the room, and it was very hot outside. Also, the bathroom was filthy dirty and MOLDY and the carpet was very dirty and stained horribly. Additionally, the shower faucet dripped steadily at a heavy drip, drip, drip all night and all day. It was so bad, that it kept us awake all night Monday night with its dripping. It also spilled water out onto the bathroom floor, which was extremely unsafe and slippery. When we cut our trip short and checked out the next morning (July 6, 2021), we told the manager, and he said he was aware of the problems and that it was a very old building, built in 1948. Apparently, it has not been updated much since. He said it was going to be remodeled and fixed soon in the future, but that didn't help us in the present. We checked out the next day, three days early, due to two things: First of all, my husband, Jim, was not feeling well, and Second, the room was extremely hot; it was extremely wet on the floor in the bathroom, which we felt was very unsafe. Good enough on a budget. I read enough reviews ahead of time to know that the motel is a bit dated and on the "well-worn" side, so I wasn't expecting too much. We were in the main building just behind the front desk, so our doors opened into an interior hall. The door did just seem like a typical interior bedroom door (not super reassuring security-wise). The room was adequate in size, and the tiled bathroom shower seemed new-ish. There was a sliding door to a deck off our room -- possibly it used to be part of an owner's suite? There was also a weird quasi-kitchenette/tv nook which had a mini fridge, microwave, and TV. We didn't hear much road noise. The staff was nice enough at check-in and check out. They do have a sign out front for check-out letting you know to just leave your keys at the desk if no staff is there. The front door doesn't always close immediately behind you - it's a very slow moving pneumatic closer, I guess. There's no breakfast but we had a good cheap meal at the Little Brown Hen Cafe just up the street. We paid about $65 for a winter weeknight, which seems reasonable given the location and the time of year. read more

We wanted to stay at a romantic inn the Oregon coast and the Lighthouse had good reviews. We came late so we didn't get to see the room before the staff left for the night. Apparently, the rooms have been redone in themes and ours was the dog lovers room. It's cute, but not really the right tone for a wedding anniversary. In the morning our host happily switched us to the ocean themed one. The shower takes about three minutes to heat up and the bed was clean and comfortable. My husband and I stayed at the Lighthouse Inn for one night as we were passing through. My husband and his grandfather knew the second owners of the hotel and he has fond memories there. It was not quite what he remembered it to be however, we did have a pleasant stay. It is clear that the hotel needs repairs and the dining area could be much cleaner than it is. The electrical plug in the bathroom would not hold a hairdryer or curling iron cord. The hotel didn't seem to be very busy so if there are remodeled rooms we didn't get one. And the breakfast is not how it's described. We recommend coming up with the extra money and stay in a nicer place to enjoy this cute coastal town. read more

This is the biggest dump we've stayed at in a long time. Over $140 for a gross smelling room, A mattress with no proper boxspring, a refrigerator cranked all the way up that barely keeps a soda cool and more. There is no way this place deserves two stars. I recommend you pass this place by if you are on the Oregon coast on US 101. read more

Terrible......the toilet was filthy. They offered us some cleaning products but we never got any. We checked in at 3 and they had issues finding us a clean room. Some poor woman was running around cleaning rooms with a baby on her hip crying the whole time. There was a mattress just laying out front on the ground....old and dirty. My wife is handicapped and they had no rooms on the first floor.....or an elevator to get to the second floor. This place in general is old and run down and the owners do not appear to be putting any funds into upkeep. read more

Great find. After a long day on the road we decided to spend the night in Florence. Glad we found this place! Originally built in the 30s it has been well maintained. More funky than fancy, we found our room to be clean and comfortable. The halls are lined with historic photos in the older wing of the hotel, and lighthouse photos in the newer wing. The lobby has books and games and a comfy sitting area. Walking distance to old town. read more

Hey, would you like to borrow some videos casettes to play in your VCR? If so, you can find those at no charge in the lobby. Here's the key (metal key on ring) to your room because plastic key cards are for tools. Don't forget to push aside that large curtain which separates the stairs from the upstairs hallway which has an immediate incline which will most certainly kill any elderly person who made it up the stairs in the first place. Straight outa not this decade but that's three stars A-OK. It's groovy because the room is clean, the bathroom is clean, the window looks out over a lovely scene of highway 101 BUT we can see our car parked in the lot which is always a plus when you're lugging around a ton of roadtrip gear. We were sold a 'deluxe' king room which means it's on the back side of the hotel (away from the highway) and comes with a refrigerator and microwave - deluxe gets new meaning here - but received a standard with none of the above. Gonna go talk to the lady at the desk but I'm not upset because I learned that there's a refrigerator and microve in the telephone room (yes) where the coffee/tea/cider is served in the morning. Definitely going to hit that free coffee up and sit in the lobby by the fireplace and check out their bookshelf. Can't wait. So yes, the place deserves three stars but I'm bumping it to four because I like quirky old-fashioned wierdness and mistakes which are easily rectified. Oh, and the wifi is super quick which is extra bonus points and makes up for the lack of AAA rates. read more

This is a great place! The entrance room is big, warm, and welcoming; they had a fire roaring. Our room had a twin bed for our son and a queen for us, both of which were super comfortable and warm and clean. The staff was incredibly sweet and friendly, too. There's no breakfast, but they do put out coffee, hot chocolate, and hot cider, which was lovely. The internet was easy and fast, too. I really loved this place - the warmth and charm seeped through into my bones, and I slept really well and woke happily. read more

Eek! Methinks not. I start all places out with three stars (average), and then add or delete stars from there. I consider price and value, and the price for a room at The Lighthouse was very low, so I had low expectations for this place. That said, there are several key requirements that any lodging facility must meet: basic cleanliness, comfortable mattress for a good night's sleep, working shower and bathroom fixtures, reasonable sense of safety, temperature control. If a place seriously fails at any of these, I'm likely to deduct stars. We stayed in room 16, which is on the ground level, facing Hwy 101, and adjacent to Nature's Corner Cafe (a separate business entity, not part of the motel). To say the room was shabby is an understatement. However, the room was reasonably clean, the mattress was more comfortable than expected, and road noise wasn't too bad considering the location. The bathroom had a tiled shower stall; no tub, and that's fine with me. The bathroom sink did not have a vanity around it, and the tiny 4 inch wide shelf above the sink was not even wide enough to set my hair dryer down, so I had to lay it inside the sink. (Motel does not supply hair dryers). The cheap, fake wood flooring was a welcome sight, since we could see that it was clean and not flea infested. There was no AC, and I couldn't figure out how to turn on the overhead fan until the next morning. I would have slept with a window open, but that didn't seem safe, given the ground floor location. The room had a barren appearance. See my pictures. Considering the previous paragraph, I was planning on writing a two star review. But then it happened. About one minute into my shower, with my hair full of shampoo, the water turned from the temperature I had chosen to scalding HOT! I fiddled with the faucets, but the water stayed hot. Then, it suddenly turned icy COLD. This happened several times. It was the fastest shower ever, because I made it my goal to get my hair rinsed as quickly as possible and leave. My husband took his shower earlier and the same thing happened to him. We speculated that the room shares a hot water heater with other rooms, and being last in line, room 16's water changes temperature when occupants of other rooms sharing the same plumbing line turn their water on or off. One star! :( Other comments: Wi-Fi worked well. Breakfast was not included, but we knew that when we booked the room. You have to fill your ice bucket before 9 p.m., when the lobby closes. There was not a fridge or microwave in room 16. read more
