Stopped here for lunch with some co-workers. Not much else is this area, so this place was packed. We seated ourselves in a back room that was nice and cool thanks to two window AC units. Our co-workers were regulars here, so they ordered up the fried crab claws for us to start off with. The reviews don't lie, these things were big and tasty! Since I LOVE gumbo, I had to try it out (as a second appetizer). I was impressed, the roux was a dark brown color and on the thick side (which I prefer) with shrimp and lots of okra. Gumbo is not gumbo without okra! For my meal I had the grilled shrimp salad. The salad was huge for a lunch portion and the shrimp on top were served warm and seasoned well (not too salty which occurs often on grilled shrimp). Beyond the shrimp it was your basic chef salad with all the fixin's. I couldn't finish it! If you are ever in the area and have hesitations since it's the only place around, definitely give it a try. Just ate here on recommendation from a friend...the crab claws were amazing! We got the fried but will definitely try the sautéed next time, didn't know it was an option or we would have tried both. Disappointed is a understatement. The stuffed shrimp were rubbery and the batter inside was dry. Tartar sauce didn't have a taste and neither did the overpriced crab claws. Shrimp oysters were fried too long. Only thing good was the side salad and okra. read more

This restaurant is a little out-of-the-way from the typical mobile restaurant destination. However, it is well worth the extra trip. The light house has been in mobile for a very long time, that being said I have eaten there about twice. The only good thing about the restaurant is the crab claws. Other than that the restaurant is trash. Very old build and RECENTLY GIVEN A HEALTH INSPECTION OF 78!!!! A 78!! That's just to show how clean the restaurant is. I first want to say I checked reviews and asked a few friends before going to this place and most said it was worth a try. We had 5 in our party so we knew we would have to wait a bit at 6:15 on a Saturday evening. We were told 20 or so minutes. It was 50++ minutes before we were seated. They sat us at a table that was so nasty , I literally had to get water and napkins from a nearby table to try and clean it off. After another 15 minutes our server swung by and said he would be with us soon. I asked if he could please come clean the table because it was so sticky we didn't want to touch it. He came back to get our drink order, without anything to clean the table, we ordered appetizers and drinks and his reply was "are you not ordering dinner "? I said yes, do we need to order now and he said yes. So we ordered our food and waited. Our drinks finally came, and I again asked for the table to be cleaned. After another 10 minutes, I finally went to get something to clean the nasty table. He brought our appetizer, crab claws, which were good, but cold and certainly not worth $30 a basket. He said he would be back with salads soon. He brought the salads and I asked for silverware and he said ok, I'll get it for you. 5 minutes later he brings our food and STILL NO SILVERWARE. I had to get up and go ask another server for utensils to eat with. I really have nothing good to say about the food other than our baked potatoes were hot. The server came back 20 minutes later and asked if we needed to go boxes because our plates were still full of food. He brought them and basically slung them at me from a doorway a step up from our table. I was extremely disappointed in the whole experience. We drove 30 minutes for this when we could've eaten anywhere in Mobile and have had a much better experience. Lesson learned. We will not be back. read more

Mouth watering, delicious crab claws that make you squeal in delight with a healthy serving of southern hospitality! Our friend brought us to this local favorite of hers and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is "laid back" . Try going on "off peak" hours. We were seated with no waiting. prompt, friendly service and fresh, hot, timely and delicious food. First time. We stopped after Bellingrath Gardens Christmas Lights on a recommendation, they are 3 miles from BGH. Between the influx of people visiting BGH and Covid seating restrictions we had a 20 minute wait for a table which is you do in your vehicle but it gave us time to peruse the menu. Service from when we walked in, Kelsey our waitress and the kitchen staff was excellent. The better half had the 2 fish combo, crab claws and catfish. The crab claws which they are known for were the best we have had in LA. Her catfish was grilled perfectly and lightly seasoned. I was looking for comfort food and since there was no meatloaf on the menu l went with their 10oz homemade hamburger steak smothered in gravy and onions also cooked perfectly and lightly seasoned. Their onion rings are homemade and excellent. The fried okra was also very good. A definite repeat the next time we are in the area since it is on the other side of LA for us. read more

Last night Terry suprised me and we went to the Lighthouse for dinner and Iam very disappointed. Last time we went there was last year for our Anniversary and had a good time but last night it was horrible. There was only one Waitress and the place was fairly busy and she was running around like a chicken with it's head cut off trying to take care of everyone and the service was awful but it wasn't the fault of the Waitress, she was trying so hard to take care of everyone that I ended up feeling terrible for her. So sorry that I couldn't complain, not even when we were given onion rings for another table, received the appetizer mushrooms 15 minutes after our dinner was served and never got a cup of coffe till we were leaving ( Worst cofffee ever ) Also the dining areas were filthy, looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a year and the floors were disgusting and stained. The restrooms were also really bad as well. Very sad to see such a popular place going down the tubes and not sure what has happened since it always had great food and service......... Felt awful for the Waitress , she did the best she could but was completely overwhelmed and the Owner's should be ashamed of themselves for not having more people working. I've never been inside this restaurant and I was raised in Bayou La Batre from grade school to college... I never had the desire but I think it was mostly because I just couldn't afford to eat here. Even after college and a corporate job I still think it's expensive... I mean $29 for a pound of their fried crab claws??? Yikes!!! They have no menu so you're calling in blind and it's pulling teeth to get them to tell you what they actually serve. The food is consistently good. Fried anything is probably best but we have had the sauteed crab claws and they too are good. Best place for FRESH seafood. It's actually the only place we will order seafood from. Being from the area we know the difference between fresh/local and frozen. I highly recommend the Lighthouse if you want delicious fresh fried crab claws, shrimp, oysters, fish, etc. I use to never eat seafood until I ate here! My wife and I went here last night and really enjoyed it. Wednesday night is mullet and grits, but I passed. We both got the shrimp po boy. It was not huge, but the bread was good and soft.
