Tommy responded quickly with a visit and a detailed price quote. Despite being very busy (due to everybody wanting to get their outdoor spaces in shape for Covid-safe entertaining) Tommy invested a great deal of time discussing different design approaches, listening intently, and offering ideas. I am a Landscape Architect, so I am naturally a bit OCD about landscape design - but the photos should give you an idea of the depth of Tommy's design. But, again - the Geek is a team. Tommy did the lighting on our property after we bought a house a year ago. We found several DIY options and a couple of landscapers who did lighting as one facet of their business, but nothing that really made us comfortable with plunking down a good chunk of change to light the land around our house. I found The Lighting Geek on Yelp and gave them a call. Tommy came out to the house, walked the property entirely, and made recommendations. Besides the fact that his business is entirely focused on landscape lighting, I knew he was someone I wanted to work with because his first reaction upon walking in our front door and seeing our large picture windows that had old oaks outside them was, "oh man, I'm going to light those oaks up and it's going to feel like you're in a tree house!" It was a genuine excitement about the creative side of something that most of us just accept as a mundane "Home Depot project" that we'd rather pay someone else to do. We made the decision to put in 15 lights via Tommy's proposal (it was our one item we were allowing ourselves to sink good money into right off the bat), and scheduled the installation. The crew arrived on time, got the instructions from Tommy, worked all day, cleaned up entirely, and then Tommy returned at night to make sure everything was working, and more importantly that all the decisions on placement and angling was the way it should be. We walked around with an allen key and he adjusted the direction of any light that wasn't exactly right. A year later now, and we absolutely love the lighting. In fact, I'd say despite having reservations about the cost ("I can probably just do this myself with a couple of my buddies on a weekend") I can say that it is the item highest on the Money Well Spent List™ we've been keeping since purchasing our home. I have gotten multiple inquiries from neighbors about who has done our lighting, and a couple that have seen me in the daylight and said, "oh, you're the house with the beautifully lit oak out front, right?" and, "I live a little ways down the street, and can see the way you've lit the trees in the backyard - it's gorgeous." Despite having a list of items we thought we'd tackle first, we're currently in the process of deciding whether or not now is the right time for us to make additions to the lighting system because the return we've gotten from the initial investment has been so positive. If you want the cheapest option at all costs, then do not go with the Lighting Geek. However, if you want to know that the money you're spending is addressing the exact problem/issue you're looking to fix, and that the contractor you're hiring is committed to the quality of his product/work, the longterm results, and has a legitimate passion for the creative aspects of lighting your property, then I wouldn't recommend anyone but The Lighting Geek. We got a few quotes for outdoor lighting for our home and they were all more than we wanted to spend. Lighting Geek was the only company that took our budget into consideration first and was able adjust what we needed to still have beautiful lighting in our yard! We get compliments all the time. We also have a tricky driveway and ran over one of the lights at the entrance. We paid to have it fixed. Then we ran over it again!! Tommy (the owner) came to our home for an initial consultation. He has a real collaborative approach to bring out the best solution for your property. If you are contemplating landscape lighting- look no further! Tommy and his crew are amazing. The facts as we know them- they are efficient, neat, fast and do what they say they will do. We have a small city ranch of five acres and wanted to enjoy the view at night and being city folks we needed some light to see our way in the wilderness. Tommy met with us 2 years ago and we did stage one. He came out after the first day of installation at dark to adjust the light placement and we had him move or add a few lights. He is a great guy, with a fun personality, very creative and knowledgeable about not only the lights, but, also the trees. We just hired him again after seeing him at the Home and Garden show at the Expo and did phase 2. We also added the new mosquito repellent system around the eating area and fire pit. Again, Tommy came out after it got dark and rustled the lights to make it look perfect. He listened to our comments and made the changes while we watched. We also did some Bistro lighting and I wanted to change to a different bulb and after asking him one time, he had some samples up later that day. These guys are great -- they do high quality work, on time, in a professional and friendly manner. They will make your nighttime-lighted home the pride of your neighborhood. First, what not to do: We hired our gardener to improve our existing lighting. He added some lights, along with one bad splice that shorted, started our bark cover on fire (not smoldering, real flames!) and resulted in about $3000 damage,limited to $3000 only cause we put the fire out while waiting for the fire department. Second, what to do: Anyway, Tom and Michelle (and others) from the Lighting Geek came over and installed not just a gorgeous looking light system, but also a safe system as well. They recommended a design and walked us through it. They did their work during the day (of course. When we wanted some minor changes, after seeing the lights at night, they came back and took care of it. They insisted that they wanted the quality of their finished product to actually 'delight' us and it has. We highly recommend the Lighting Geek. read more

Was at the dump last weekend and saw this guy (pretty sure it was the owner) who thought it would be nice to cut not only me but about 5 other people off who were all waiting to get on the weigh scale and leave. If this guy cuts corners here and cuts people off, I wonder if it reflects in his work! Very upsetting as I was with my wife and daughter in the car waiting and had him speed around me to cut me off. We are delighted with our backyard, Tommy, and his whole crew. We bought a house that needed substantial landscape work After spending a significant amount on the hardscape, turf, etc. we had a great place for the kids to play and adults to hang out, but it was not well lit and thus we could only enjoy during the day. Seeing as how we work and the evenings are our main time to enjoy the yard, we weren't able to utilize it fully during the free time we had.
