I was disappointed to see the negative reviews for The Little Guys and I felt the need to provide my positive experiences. I have purchased various items over the past 20 years from David and his team of professionals. This includes televisions, stereo components, DVR's, indoor and outdoor speakers, wireless iPod docking stations to integrate with my home's surround system, amongst other things. They are extremely knowledgeable on the products that they carry and run an honest business practice. You can always find something on the internet for less, and we all do that. But go ahead and buy something and find out what kind of support you get. People go in person to stores like this, pick out what they like, and go home and research it and order it on the Internet. What's missing? Service and knowledge. That's fine and dandy on many things, but on items like higher end electronics, you want the relationship with a store that strives for customer service and satisfaction. I have been a repeat customer many times through the years since this store opened, and have referred The Little Guys to many of my friends who have also been happy. We just added and upgraded tv and media services with the Little Guys. Dave, in the office, was very helpful in providing information to help us decide on what products to choose. Tom came to the house to figure out what work was required for the installation and came up with great new ideas which give us better service and saved us money! Ken and Chris spent several hours here doing the installation and did a wonderful job. In addition they helped educate us on the new system And Sue, in the office, worked hard to get us scheduled in a timely manner given our crazy schedule This is our third project with The Little Guys. After several years of living with my present audio set up, I thought it was time for a major upgrade. I took a trip to their store during one of their major sales. After talking to Henry, one of their sales consultants for several hours, I decided to take a large audio leap and purchase McIntosh equipment. Gulp. David provided advice on cabling. Delivery and setup was carefully handled by Johnny and Ken. There were a few bumps in the road with an annoying hum and some confusion caused by the manufacturer's manual. Needless to say, I was concerned. Probably, more like freaked out, considering the size of my investment. As David would always say on the radio and at the store to your face, "we will make it right" He did. I am happy. I will be a loyal customer and recommend them to my friends. read more

I had a problem and called " The little Guys " to repair a television that I purchased from them 7 years ago. I was told there would be a $100.00 charge to have someone come to my home. A repairman arrived, looked at my television and told me he thought I needed a part replaced but he didn't know what the cost would be and told me a technician would contact me. I didn't hear from anyone and I called The Little Guys and was told they could give me the name of a repairman as they don't repair televisions. In essence I was charged $100.00 to have an employee LOOK at my television. Time to look at Best Buy for all my appliance and electronical needs. read more

Went in twice....first time was completely ignored. Walked the whole store with no one saying a word. The second time, I had to deal with the most condescending, arrogant guy I have ever met in retail. These guys sound so friendly on the radio...but avoid this place...unless you want to be treated rudely. There are plenty of other stores to buy from. It's not a her. It's her husband. I don't work for a competitor. What I experienced was less than mediocre. But if you feel better about it, after looking up other reviews...good for you! You want to review the reviewers...go ahead. But if you'd rather run a friendly and helpful store...get busy on training your employees. I called to price out some Golden Ear speakers and made an appointment for them to come out to my home to add on to my control 4... system.. They showed up on time and were very professional...I explained what I was looking for and they said they would have an estimate to me within a few days.....Over a week went by before Dave called me ..He said he couldn't match or even come close on the speakers as the other dealer wasn't paying taxes or the were doing something shady ..He was $1000 more than the other dealer... I told him since I didnt hear from him in over a week I have a different dealer coming to give me a price and I wouldn't buy the speakers from them.. Dave never bother to even send estimate on all the control 4 and basically said good luck and hang up.. So since I wasn't spending $8000 on speakers sounds like they didn't want my other $3000 plus in business read more

I bought a home theater system in 2001 and a home theater receiver in 2013. The little guys is competing against the big box stores and have mid to higher level audio and video equipment. They have a good selection of brands and can lead you in the right direction. Like any retailer they are good and bad staff. If your looking for better audio video equipment they are one of the few retailers in the south suburbs that carry the brands. My main issue is that they do not offer home auditions of equipment. I think they would gain a larger client base if they allowed clients to test drive equipment at home. read more

Their radio show is always pushing plasma TVs. While it is their paid program, they always say plasma TVs are better than LCD TVs. They think contrast ratio is everything. Yes, contrast ratio is important but not everything. I find it interesting they never talk about the cons of plasma TVs. How about the screen door effect? Yes, watching a plasma is like looking through a screen door out into the yard due to the pixel separation. LCD has plasma beat with that. Also, they say phosphor wear is not an issue. They are incorrect. The technology used in a plasma today is the same technology used in old CRT displays. The phosphor does wear in and dims over time. Burn in is still an issue despite efforts to limit the wear. That is why every plasma manufacturer clearly states this in the warranty. Maybe they have a higher profit ratio on the plasmas they sell but their constant pushing of plasma TVs is a turn off to their business... read more

Horrible. I purchased a $13,000 home theater system from them 3 years ago. They have been back 7 times to "repair it," by which they mean correct their initial mistake. Everytime they come out, I am charged an hourly service fee and a $175 charge just to come out. They are at best incompetent and at worst absolute crooks. read more

Only company I have used since building my home. Unfortunately recent experience has moved me to a competitor. Repetitive issue with main component. Sent original in for repair which I paid for uninstall and reinstall, ultimately it failed. Purchased new of the same make, again paid for install. Little Guys offered no accommodation for trouble. They simply point to the warranty and charge for their services each time, repair and new replacement unit. The new component is now having the same problem. Shame on me for letting the sales person sell me the same make of component. The sales person acknowledges a problem with this unit but it is because people are asking too much of it. I am not sure what that means since they set up the system throughout my house. Also don't understand why I am required to pay prior to service being completed. Asked for owner to call and received no response. Something has changed with this business. Not sure why they wont stand behind my purchase like one review notes. In Dec 2010, my family purchased a surround sound system for my parent's 40th anniversary. On a recommendation, we went to Little Guys where Ron, Sales, helped us pick out a system. He also quoted a $1200 universal remote, which would control everything using only one remote. My parents decided to wait to buy the remote, due to costs. The technicians came and installed everything, but we noticed the remote to the Sony receiver was not left. (We called to inquire about the remote later that day) Instructions on how to turn on the system were very brief and sketchy at best. Needless to say after many, many calls to Little Guys, my parents still couldn't turn on the TV and get the sound on or play their favorite music. After calling for the 9th time to say we still didn't have the receiver remote, Ron's response was "Well I quoted a universal remote that can be programmed through the computer. The technicians were instructed not the give your parents the original Sony receiver remote because it was too complicated for them to understand. We usually wait for people to get so frustrated they finally purchase the programmed universal remote (for $1200!!)" The original remote was included with the purchase, but Little Guys kept it anyway!! In the mean time, Fry's Multimedia was able to offer the same kind of programmable universal remote for $143. We programmed the remote, no problems, except that we need the original Sony receiver remote, to program the receiver. In Jan, Ron at Little Guys advised us that they no longer can find the original remote that was supposed to be given to us . We were promised, by Ron at Little Guys that Sony would send us the "missing" remote replacement in Jan, Feb, and in March. It is now APRIL 2011 and still no original remote or replacement remote!!! NOT EVEN RECOMMENDED TO MY WORST ENEMY! read more

When the Little Guys moved to Mokena, my husband and I were excited to visit the store. I had listened to their radio slot on Sundays, and felt they would have an answer for our question about sound bars. When we entered the store, three employees were standing at the service desk. As we began to walk through the store, they remained at the counter, looking over at us, but not greeting us or offering to help. We weren't sure where the sound bars were, so we kept looking. Finally, one employee approached and asked us what we were looking for. We said a sound bar in the $200 range. He immediately said that we wouldn't find anything like that in the store and didn't offer any other suggestions. So we left. My husband and I both felt that the employees were deciding if we were worth their time, and when the one spoke with us, decided that we weren't. I told my husband I would never return. Several months ago, I had a question about quitting cable service and using an antenna with a Roku, etc. I used their online contact service and sent an email with my questions. To date, no one has responded, and I'm not surprised. After listening to their radio spot for years, I knew they could be negative toward competitors and certain brands, but I never realized how elitist they are. We didn't measure up as clientele, and they don't measure up as the kind of business where we want to spend our money. If you're an audiophile of means shopping for stereo speakers and components, then, perhaps this isn't the place. One would think that a hifi dealer licensed to carry the entire B&W line ought to have something more than a pair of CM5 bookshelfs for auditioning purposes. When I visited their showroom a pair of Veritas floorstanders by Energy, on NAD components, represented the best stereo setup they had available for auditioning. That, coupled with the fact that they had roughly every model of the Klipsch reference line, suggests to me at least, that they emphasize mid-range "home theatre" installations. If you're from the southwest suburbs and in the market for an affordable home theatre that is on the cusp of high end, then, this store might be both a convenient and good fit; however, if you're from the northside then you're better off staying put and going to Abt, which not only carries a far wider product range but also has most of their product range available for in-house auditioning. I made the southward trip under the impression that "The Little Guys" was a very high-end boutique-type store, that it is not, but, nice, it remains. In my case, I was hoping to audition the 800 Diamonds on Classe or McIntosh components, to see how they compared to the similarly priced Focal Scala Utopia loudspeakers, obviously no luck. Overall it's a nice store, but there is no high-end hardware for auditioning purposes in the showroom, and it seems to cater to the home theatre demographic in need of technical assistance and budgeted between 10-20k. read more
