The venue was rented out for my job's "Best of Dublin Appreciation Night". There was a live dj playing upbeat music, my job offered face painting for the families, and their snack bar was opened for the families. The skating rink was huge, ample space and seating to socialize and have food from the snack court. This skating rink is the perfect size and place for birthday parties, corporate events, and company appreciation nights. read more

Jeez, why all the hate for The Golden Skate? Fun?: Hell yes this place is fun! The DJ played great music and took requests. The skating rink itself was well maintained. The rental skates themselves (either blades or quads) were also well maintained. Clean?: I wouldn't eat off the floor of the shitter, but the place is pretty clean all things considered. I will say that although I'm not someone who's hung up on "germs," a few more dispensers of hand sanitizer might have been nice. Expensive?: Ok, yeah, TGS is kind of expensive. But this is the Bay Area, right? Damn right it is. A gallon of gas down the street is 5 bucks and pho for four was about 120. Atmosphere?: It is quaint and wonderfully dated. The only rink I've been to that feels like a Wild West adventure! I really thought the "gold mine" theme was super fun and the staff was very friendly and helpful when checking in and purchasing your ticket! My only drawback is that it is a little expensive just for a one time entry for an adult night. We paid $18/pp which is on the higher end of any rinks I've been to. It's obviously not a deal breaker, because the adult nights are wonderful and so many people come out to skate together and collaborate. I had a great time just observing the different friend groups and watching what everyone felt strong in with their skating technique! Also, this is the only rink I've been to where they keep the lights brighter for the session. No complaints here as it makes it safer to navigate the rink floor and also to learn from other skaters. But, if you're looking for a "vibey" party light skate... perhaps come a different time? There's lots of talent at this rink and I would definitely come back again for the adult night. My family and I went skating last night! We had a ball! Even my 11 month old baby enjoyed watching the skaters. They play great music and the vibes are unmatched; people of all ages are enjoying themselves, there's lots of parking and skates. Sessions last 2 hours (which is more than enough time), to practice perfecting your skills, or bust your butt! It's $25 if you need admission and skates or $18 if you just need admission and have your own skates! Awesome fun for the entire family, which gets everybody off their phones and out on the roller rink burning some calories. There's nothing fancy or glamorous about this place. It's just like the roller rink that you remember going to as a kid. They're all kind of the same with the multicolored carpet, the shoe lockers, big counter, where you return the skates, a mini arcade, and a snack bar with all sorts of food that's bad for you. If you're willing to get out there and stretch your legs, look a little awkward and enjoy some old-fashioned fun come out and have a good time . read more

Overall my kids had fun, but as others have said the food options are limited, the upkeep and maintenance/cleanliness are mediocre, and the pricing is baffling. If you go back to 2020 the admission fee was $7 and now it's $18, even for those who aren't skating. I understand the ownership is trying to recoup lost revenue from the pandemic years and is perhaps taking advantage of its unique situation as the only roller rink in the immediate Bay area. However a 157% price increase in four years feels egregious. Rentals prices are also up significantly. I'd love to come back but it's hard to justify the price. Especially when the same fee is charged for those not skating. Most places also don't have a per session fee, which I might understand if crowding were an issue but it isn't. More consumer-friendly prices would actually drive revenue up as I know many friends invite her decline because the value isn't good and parents don't want to pay just to sit and watch their kids. read more

Brought my kid here for a "birthday" I put it in quotes because my kid wanted to come skate with her friends for her birthday. They brought gifts and we sat at a table. It was really a nice experience. It's open skate for a couple hours and then they close it down to clean and open it again for another couple hours. My kid had tons of fun. Skating laughing with her friends. I give this place 4 stars because they didn't have food, or coffee. They had pretzels, sodas, and water, but nothing filling for the kids. I would've liked to have been able to feed them there while they skated, but I understand it's an older place. Husband was in dire need of coffee tho. You know, I would totally give this place 5 stars because it brings me back to my childhood and my kids absolutely love coming here. They have music requests and they turn the lights off to skate. My issue is that unless you book a birthday party, they won't even let you bring a tiny cake in. Legit I had 1/8 a sheet cake - not like I was trying to fully feed these kids with outside food, just a small cake so we could sing. The birthday packages are unreasonable when my daughter just wanted to skate with 3 friend. But you won't even let them bring a little cake to celebrate, unreal. Even places that "don't allow outside food" will allow a small cake for a small celebration. That's so disappointing. There was another non-birthday party here that was just as frustrated. AND if you won't even allow any thing, you need to beef up your food options and sell cakes. Let's think about this a little more Golden Skate. read more

It's literally the only game in town, so we took my first-time-interested-in-skating kid. Honestly not sure what to say; staff helpful and pleasant, the facility practically dilapidated. Rental skates barely held together with mismatched replacement parts. The AV system less impressive than the one in the rink I went to growing up in the 1980s. As others have noted, it's priced equivalently to ice skating at new/fully modernized locations; something just doesn't add up...but for a one time thing sure why not. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place, but I want people to know what they are getting into. The skates are trash! They are verynikd and wobbly. It was hard to have an enjoyable time since my feet hurt so much. My husband and I tried to buy new skates from the front desk. I was told that they could not sell skates because their manager was gone for the day. Aside from that, it was fun. Staff was friendly. I know that this business has struggled to remain open. I just wish that we would have been able to purchase skates so that we could have spent more time skating. We cut our time short because I he skates were in such bad condition. read more

My fiancé (then date) put on his first pair of skates there. I learned how to change my bearings and loosen my trucks there. The volunteers are still my friends and the place remains my church. I really love coming to this roller skating rink! Every Wednesday night from 8pm-11pm is Adult Skate Night. This amazing roller rink includes, skate rentals, plenty of tables to sit and observe, lockers, restrooms, food counter, an awesome DJ, and a nice sized rink. I was able to use my Apple Pay for the cover charge and at the food counter. This roller rink was on the cusp's of permanently closing down, until tonight. Towards the end of the session, the owner had DJ GA stop the music so he can express his gratitude for the skating community's support in the past few weeks. Plus, there was a huge turnout tonight, so he decided to keep the rink open and let everyone know. Great crowd, outstanding service, and a fun atmosphere. Will back again! read more

So I loved my experience with Golden skate, my issue is that it has a stench. I know skating rinks usually have a smell but this place just had stale air. Would I go back? Probably because I wanna have fun and skate again. The staff was amazing. I think if they picked up the carpets and replaced them, the stench would decrease significantly. read more

it's been YEARS since I've been here, but when my teenage daughter said she wanted go skating this was the first place I thought of. As so many others mentioned, it seems excessively expensive. $50 for two to go in and rent skates, when you can ice skate instead for $15 per person including rental? Well, let's just say the cost will definitely make us less likely to return as often. The mostly teenage staff all seemed pretty unhappy to be doing their job (you know it's bad when a just turned 17 year old comments on it), making me wonder how managment might be treating them. And the place is feeling like it's not been updated since I used to go (literally more than 30 years ago). BUT, we had fun, and that's really ALL that matters. Oh, and the Icees were a big plus! they're the perfect thing to have when you're overheated from skating. Yes, I gave it only three stars, but I would encourage you all to go have fun, even if it's just once. It helps support our local rink! read more

And yet...I showed up on Mothers Day (today) really excited to skate with my kids to find it completely closed. The website said there were sessions today. There were not. Just went there with my partner and was shocked at the fact that it cost us 50 dollars to rent skates and get in. Absolutely ridiculous. The place looks like it's from 1975 and is charging more than a club entrance fee in 2022. (And isn't nearly as nice) The whole time I was there I kept getting dirty looks from the spectators and I can admit I'm not an amazing roller skater but not bad enough to have everyone's eyes on me. It was very uncomfortable... Long story short if you're willing to fork up about 25-30 dollars a person for a filthy bumpy floored roller rink with gas station food then this is your place. The place is run by egocentric management. The staff is barely okay... as you may have read many times already, there is a no hat rule, even for spectators... and the manager will chase after you and try to search your bags after you put your hat away in your car!! If it wasn't because of a birthday party we were attending, we would have left that place. There is absolutely zero customer service and all the staff seems to be pissed off for some reason. On the day I went, the manager and a customer were yelling in the lobby because of the hat rule, then the manager turned his attention to me after I already removed my hat and proceeded to yell at me for no reason. I'm pretty sure he used to be a jail guard or a vice principal for a bad school. I support local businesses, but not at the cost of my self esteem and self respect. You're basically saying we are closing, please support us, then proceed to treat customers like prisoners of a interment camp. Great marketing, same strategy used in furniture stores... as for all the other 1001 rules, great for discriminating all sorts of disabilities, cultures and medical conditions. I heard it's closing. It's pretty trashed. The inside doesn't look like it's been vacuumed, ever. The skate laces are thrashed, we couldn't get them in the holes at the top of the skate. The wait to get in and the line for equipment was insane. The person working the equipment area was very nice. It's crazy that you have to pay to watch your kid skate. The option is sending your minor children in there alone? That being said, the staff were OK and my kid had a decent time for her for skating outing. I'm sure Covid took a hit on this business and it's now running on fumes. read more

I LOVE the Golden Skate. This roller skating rink is a Bay Area favorite for all ages! I have been going here since I was a little kid to roller skate. I've gone here just to skate and for birthday parties as well During the pandemic I've picked up roller skating again and once things started to open back up, I knew that this is one of the first places that I'd want to go to (and I did). I've gone here a few times since with the pandemic going on. Right now, the Golden Skate has been checking for vaccinations. They require masks however I do see some people skate without masks, despite the reminders. (I feel like that happens everywhere though) Anyway, as for the aesthetic, the Golden Skate looks the same since I've been a little kid! I absolutely love that! To be honest, the food doesn't look that good but I don't go here to eat food, I go to skate so that doesn't really matter to me! You can rent skates if you don't own them! Overall, I love the Golden Skate and I will continue to go here until it closes, unfortunately that sounds to be something that will happen sooner rather than later so try to go here as soon as you can!! I took my first skating lesson last Saturday and I really enjoyed it! The Staff was SUPER nice, helpful, and very knowledgeable! I am 65 years old and the instructors made me feel very comfortable and not "old", especially Leslie! In addition, I was very impressed to hear the announcements regarding all the awards their skaters won at Nationals! WOW, how awesome was that? CONGRATULATIONS Golden Skate winners!!!!! I've been to The Golden Skate twice and had a great time in two totally different atmospheres. First time? Wednesday Adult Night (18+ years old), from 7:30 to 10 PM, with a friend from church. She grew up roller skating in SoCal and had no problem fitting in with the experienced skaters whizzing by doing tricks. My ignorant self thought that this was like an ice skating rink where newbies could hang around the edges of the rink, grasping the wall intermittently. Halfway around the rink, I had the whistle blown on me and was helped to the center of the rink where I could mercifully practice staying upright. If you'd like your pride crushed and/or if you'd like to be incredibly inspired, Wednesday evenings are where you catch a glimpse of a true skating community and how fun and artful this pastime really can be. My second time around, I came on a Sunday afternoon session (all ages), from 3:45 - 6 PM. I would recommend a time slot like this for those who want more space to practice and less pairs of eyes to watch you fall. There are a lot more kids in this session, of course, but still some adults, too, who have varying skill levels. There's a 6:30 - 9 PM session afterward that has all-you-can-eat pizza and unlimited soda included in your $17 admission. At only $3 more than the regular price of admission, I can see this being a pretty popular/busy time. That said, I think I'll try and avoid it since I'm really just looking for open space to practice. Aside from the Sunday evening session, I believe these are the prices: Admission - $14 per person *Please note that everyone who enters has to pay admission. Yes, even if you're just there to sit and watch someone else skate. Quad rental - $5 Inline rental - $6 And if you'd like to rent a small locker, don't forget to bring $0.50 If you have HBO, check out the United Skates documentary. I cannot love the Golden Skate enough. I travel religiously from SF out to San Ramon weekly so I can practice and log my floor time on a rink that leaves enough room to actually skate. It's worth the drive time, absolutely. The manager, Manuel, and every employee have all uniformly been nice and accommodating to me and the guests who come in to enjoy a healthy, timeless, and fun activity.
