We make sure to eat from Nepal House whenever we are in Devon. This time we ordered the chicken chowmein and chilli chicken, the all time favourite Indo-Chinese food combo. Decided to stop at the Nepal House today as me, my wife and sister were at Devon for shopping - The restaurant is not very big but can seat a decent amount of people - restaurant has Nepal monument images as paintings with Nepal music. The customer service was friendly and attentive. We ordered Momos ( steamed and pan fried ), Papdi chaat, and Cheese Pakore. When I say Tan you say Dory. Tan! Dory! Tan! Dory! Yes I know it's spelled different but the message here is to get the Tandoori. Easily the best Indian I've had. The highlights were garlic naan, Lamb Vindaloo, and of course the Tandoori Chicken. The only criticisms was that the Chili Naan was way too spicy. I like heat and Indian heat never really gets my mouth burning. This Chili was really just raw hot peppers in the Naan. Tikka masala was actually not great either. Favorite of the below was the lamb vindaloo followed by the tandoori chicken. The somosas were my favorite I've had to day- gotta get the lamb. They had those funky little indian pickles too which were great. Super aromatic. I felt it seeping through my pores (in a great way) for the next few days. Momo was solid but I'd either switch to chicken chili fry Momo or chicken 65 next time. This was our order: 2 orders of tandoori chicken 1 order of chicken tikka masala 1 order of lamb vindaloo 1 order of palak paneer 1 order of Momo 3 orders of samosas 1 order of onion pakora 4 orders of naan 4 orders of chutney 1 order of raita 1 order of pickles 1 order of dessert And we ate it all! 6 of us. We ordered delivery for the first time from here on a cold Friday night. We totally understand if delivery is delayed, but the streets were clear. Our 1-hour delivery time was stretched to 90 minutes, and when it finally arrived, it was all cold and missing one of our dinners. The meat in the goat curry and chili chicken was all gristle (goat included bones, even though it's described as boneless). Finally got a chance to try Nepal House after hearing so many good things, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Stepping inside on a Sunday evening felt like walking into a cozy, warm little haven away from the city bustle. The ambiance is lovely, with beautiful decor that makes the space feel special and inviting. Now for the food - wow. We started with the Vegetable Momos, which were steamed perfectly and packed with flavor. For our mains, the Lamb Biryani (Basmati rice dish served with Mix Raita) had this wonderful, complex heat to it that was just incredible, and the classic Chicken Tikka Masala was rich, creamy, and probably one of the best I've had. Everything tasted authentic and perfectly spiced. The only thing keeping it from a perfect 5 stars was that it was quite busy, so service was a tad slow at times, but our server was always friendly and smiling when he came to the table. I came to Nepal House last Monday, 10/6, and I was so impressed that I had dinner there on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. These are the things that impressed me: 1. The manager and his staff are hospitable and accommodating. 2. The food is amazingly delicious. I had the vegetable pakoras, tandoori chicken, butter chicken makani, lamb samosas, buttered roti, and chicken momos. 3. I asked for mild but flavorful spices and the chefs were able to cook my food to my specifications. 4. Parking was plentiful on the days when I went. 5. As an Indian Punjabi it is really difficult to find good Indian food! We've ordered from here and catered from here multiple times and I have to say the past year their food has gotten much better! Absolutely love the paneer makhni, which is savory and can be catered to your spice level. Also love the chili paneer, chicken makhni, garlic noodles, fried rice, momos, and their chili paneer masala. Recent thing we tried was navratan korma which was a pleasant surprise! Subpar service but amazing food. I can hear with a few friends and we all thought the food was amazing. We had a bunch of dishes family style with different flavors and most were amazing with maybe just 1-2 that were good. Would totally recommend coming if you want some banging Indian food. This restaurant on Devon Street offers Nepalese cuisine. Went there for the first time and saw that the ambiance was pretty neat and clean. We found that the service was a bit slow. Additionally, the overall taste wasn't that great for the price that was charged (~$17 for an appetizer!). We ordered the Veggie momos appetizer - felt it was a bit bland. The filling was flavorful and the wrap wasn't too thick, which is hard to achieve. The staff was attentive and helpful, and the manager was so kind! The restaurant inside is cozy and clean. The bathroom is spacious and also very clean. The dining room has seats for small parties are larger ones (there was a party of 10 when I dined in). Stopped by while at Devon street with my parents for lunch. Everything was delicious! We got the vegetable momo, chicken choila, malai kofta, navratan korma, and garlic naan. Service was very fast. Ambiance- quiet restaurant, only one other party there at lunch time on a Saturday. Vegetable momo- Steamed, we asked for it spicy. The vegetables were fresh and this was very flavorful. The sauce was delicious, will definitely return to try the steamed chicken momo. This is their specialty. Chicken Choila- another nepalese specialty. Very flavorful chicken, we asked for this spicy as well. The chicken isn't piping hot, more room temperature (we were warned beforehand by the waitress), but still a lot of flavor! Definitely recommend trying. Malai Kofta- another vegetarian dish, we asked for it spicy. Very creamy, very flavorful. Navratan Korma- Spicy, I did not try this but my mom said it was "excellent." My family and I came in after some shopping on Devon and we enjoyed our visit. The appetizers were by far the star of the show. We ordered the fried chili veggie momos, onion pakora, Masala papdi and veggie samosas. All of it was delicious, but the momos were my favorite! For dinner, we ordered malai kofta and channa masala. The channa masala was a different style than we're typically used to, so it wasn't our favorite, but definitely good to try. The service was great and our waiter was very attentive. This place was a GEM! I ordered the Vegetable Platter which was a combo appetizer, but asked for the Cheese Pakora to be replaced with another vegan option. Everything on the platter was SO tasty! Not the healthiest meal to eat (ALL of it was fried), but it sure was good. And so much, that I couldn't finish it! My friend ordered an appetizer that was like flat crisp tortillas, but thinner and lighter with a salsa type mixture that was GREAT (Masala Papad???)! The flavors of all the food was OUTSTANDING! We ordered medium spicy and it ran a little hot but was good. 4/5 Next up we had the shrimp chao mein which was pretty good! Again a bit spicy for medium but we liked it. 3 Our entree was chicken Nepali khukara and if just was mediocre. It had bones in it! Like a lot of them! Do you know if you swallow a bone it can tear up your intestine, poison your blood and cause you to die? I'm not trying to be dramatic but the bone fragments and chunks on balance with the taste made me conclude never again. Not worth it. Also the service was poor. I waited twenty minutes for them to get my check. I had to prairie dog the waitress to get her attention so much that I ended up walking up to her after about a half hour. And also they had the same song playing over and over and over and over and over... you get the point. I had to ask her to please play the next song. Idk- I was trying to eat Nepalese today and was underwhelmed with the food and service in comparison to the stars and reviews. The waitress barely spoke English... idk. Oh wow. These momo are next level food. I highly recommend trying the signature chili fried chicken momo. They have a slightly crisp texture from the wok and a delicious sweet but quite spicy sauce that's nicely cooked into the dumpling. It's simply one of the best foods I've ever had, and the portion size is nice. I want to come back and try the more Indian fare but needed to start out trying the Nepalese first. Finding Indian food isn't too hard around Chicago. It's a little harder finding Nepalese food. Nepal House is one of the few to go to. Has some pretty authentic tasting food in a welcoming environment. The prices are kind of high, which is the only bad thing. Actually there's two locations of this locally owned business. It has one of these on Devon Avenue amidst all these authentic Indian places. This might be the better location as far as getting an authentic experience, for a few reasons. For one, it's in West Rogers Park, a neighborhood with a large Indian and Nepalese population that it's known for. More of these people come here, so they have to keep it authentic to keep them happy. It's also smaller, giving it a more intimate feel. The last time here we got some of the vegetarian friendly menu. A bad thing is that entrees don't include naan, so you have to pay extra. It's $4 for a few pieces. That's on top of the entree prices. It gets expensive. That's the biggest complaint about this. I had the Palungoko Saag, which is a spinach entree. It's about $17 for a plate. This is fresh spinach sautéed with cumin, dry red chilis, fenugreek, garlic, ginger, and mustard seeds. It was good but too costly. She had the Bhindi Masala, which was sautéed okra and spices. Both of these entrees were spicy enough. The vegetables were cooked until soft without being mushy. Good place for some Nepalese food. It's a lot like Indian food if you didn't know. This is also quite similar to Indian food in high prices. read more

I'm one of those people who starts a review and then takes a million years to complete it. This one is no exception, and it was started before the pandemic got underway in the US. I can't speak to any precautions the restaurant is taking during the pandemic, though I assume they're following the guidelines set forth by the state and municipal governments. Nepalese / Indian cuisine in the heart of Devon Avenue. I haven't had Indian in forever and despite having lived in Chicago over a decade, have never eaten on Devon. I figured it was time. We ordered the Chicken Chilly Masala and Vegetable Kofta. I didn't have any of the masala, but I was told it was very good (and it clearly was, given how quickly it disappeared!). The kofta was good. It's different from malai kofta I've had elsewhere; it may have had more vegetables in it and it was definitely a bit sweeter. I'd probably try a different dish next time I come back. Interestingly, the garlic naan was my favorite of what we ordered. I think I usually figure I like naan ok, but this was so good--soft, buttery, flavorful. I think it's the difference between ordering takeaway and having it in the restaurant. The papadum, which I usually don't like either, was delicious, especially with the different chutneys they served it with. As evidenced by my dozen or so years here, I don't get to Devon very often but I'd certainly come back. read more

We were so hungry on a cold evening after shopping at Devon stores on a Friday evening. Wanted to try Nepal House for the first time. Very good ambiance with a nice photographs of mountains from Nepal. We ordered Kadhai Paneer, Palak Paneer, Chilli Naans and salt lassi. Both dishes were perfectly cooked and all of them were big portions as well. Salt lassi was slightly thick and I was expecting more of liquidy feel lassi with spices in it. The naans were slightly less baked and felt starchy and doughy inside. Kadhai Paneer: 5/5 Palak Paneer: 5/5 Chilli Naan: 4/5 Salt Lassi: 3.5/5 Overall we enjoyed the food here and will definitely visit again. I am a tough grader. Restaurants don't get 5 stars unless they have a Michelin star. But I like this place. Would easily be my favorite place for sub continent cuisine in Lincolnwood area. This is a small place, possibly family run. Walking in, you immediately notice the cloth tablecloths and napkins. Very clean place. Friendly waitstaff, which is always a plus. We ordered the monos, which I recommend. We ordered butter chicken and chicken Madras. Both were wonderful; they were made with a coconut cream base, giving a full, rich flavor. We had the paneer tika masala as well. Good flavor, but the paneer itself was a bit underwhelming. The easiest way to compare Indian restaurants is through their naan. This is where this place shines. Flavorful and buttery, just the way I like it. Excellent choice for a moderate priced, ethnic restaurant. read more

Today I'm only ordering the Garlic naan which is baked roasted garlic bread that is delicious. NOTE: am re-writing this review because the original review I wrote last year has mysteriously disappeared. If you are watching your spending, you will want to avoid this place. Their prices are very high for food you could get at most other Indian restaurants for less $$$. I had a taste for Indian food one night and being that I'm handicapped in a wheelchair, I placed an order online. I did not pay much attention to their prices (I was very hungry) but rather went with the food I especially like. BIG MISTAKE. I ended up spending $80 for what should have been half or 3/4 that much. Basically what I got was okay, nothing to write home about, pretty much what I could expect from other Indian restaurants, but quite a bit more expensive. For instance, an order of pappadum was $5 for 4 pcs. For that money I could buy a package of 10 at any grocery store in Little India for under $3. They charge $5 for naan whereas Ghareeb Nawaz down the street charges $1 -- and you get a gigantic homemade naan made in their tandoori oven. For $1!!! I was very surprised to see dishes that I would consider side orders costing the same price as an entree -- $17.95 for Aloo Gobi -- no meat, just cauliflower and potatoes. $16.95 for Palak Paneer -- creamed spinach with a few blocks of Indian cheese. To me that's like charging $17.95 for an order of mashed potatoes with gravy and a bit of sage stuffing thrown in. Ridiculous. They do have a Nepalese item I would definitely recommend -- something called Mo-Mo, which are little crimped dumplings either fried or steamed. They are a bit pricey at $16.95-$17.95 & you only get 8. They are small, about the size of a Kennedy half dollar -- If you're super hungry you'd probably want a double order -- but you'll end up paying $34 for them. If you've got that kind of money, go for it. Myself, that is way out of my league. The amount they give you is not a whole lot. I thought for $80 I'd have a few days of leftovers. I didn't. I had some for the next day but not much. Never again will I order food from a new place I've never ordered from when I'm starving! Very dangerous & very expensive! read more
