I ordered takeout July 20th and I vividly remembered my order amount because it was a repeating number $48.48. I just noticed on my credit card statement that they added a 10 dollar tip without me authorizing it. I don't tip on takeout. That's completely unethical behavior and I will never go back. But the mixed bread basket is a winner. Also, this is our second time dining in and I hate to say their bathrooms were filthy both times. Food was very good. We ordered a lot of food. Butter chicken was nice. Not overly spiced. White rice was soft. Garlic naan was great crispy, perfectly charred. Mango lassi was a little sweet. Fried chicken momo was delicious. Crispy on the outside soft on the inside. We had a chowmein appetizer and my kids loved it. My wife had a chickpea dish and she really enjoyed it. I tried this cute Nepalese restaurant on Christmas Eve because honestly the Chinese restaurants nextdoor were so flooded and noisy I would not have been as relaxed as here. I found the staff to be quite kind and amiable and the food absolutely delicious. There are many reasonably priced menu items here that I really did have a tough time deciding which dish to try. I chose the vegetable fritters that were deep fried and vegetarian samosa just because I was craving carbs. The portions were so generous that I took half home with me and the mango Lassi drink was just as thick and yummy as a homemade milkshake. Next time however I will make a point of trying the dumplings (momo). I noticed dumplings were being brought to the table adjacent to me and they looked mouthwatering and juicy. The calm peaceful atmosphere and non fussy setting was just perfect for a quiet Christmas Eve dinner out for one. Oh and a nice sidenote...they bring you Papadum as a complimentary appetizer which i absolutely love. A huge thank you to the staff for being open on Christmas Eve. Common to find lots of Indian restaurants but Nepalese restaurants aren't as common. It's possible to find one in Evanston. Taste Of Nepal is an average looking place from the outside and inside. Have to actually try the food to know it's great. You can get pretty big portions for not a lot. At lunch it was busy. It's not a big restaurant, meaning only a few people inside will make it seem busy to be honest. They have pretty high spice levels so be careful about these. It's about $14 for an entree. Kind of pricey but this is authentic good stuff. We ordered some things and I got the Vegetable Vindaloo. It's mixed vegetables with onions and potatoes in a fiery hot gravy. Oh yes it was certainly hot. Totally hot stuff. Entrees don't come with bread or rice. That sucks. Good place overall for Nepalese, which is a lot like Indian. It's not cheap but it's big portions. There's lots to get for vegans and vegetarians. read more

We have been ordering take out from Taste of Nepal for some time now and I'd say it's been getting better & better. We searched and searched for a good local Indian food spot and am so thankful we came across this small place. They are so nice and pleasant and the curries we ordered were thick and creamy - such great flavors. I think they could use a little more "heat", but I think that was user error when ordering...I'll probably order everything at a medium or higher. Can't wait to order again! read more

The food was incredible. The wait for takeout was long however. Good luck getting through to their phones. I called 4 times without answer. Allergens NOT listed on the menu which is extremely negligent on their part. Nowhere on the menu did chicken tikki masala list cashews &/or nuts, only for us to discover haphazardly. Food is 5/5, but (phone) service and menu transparency is 1/5. I would definitely dine here again, but only after ascertaining full menu description. I had lunch here and the food was as ok, but I was not impressed. Not very flavorful, did not seem super fresh. I had the tandoori chicken, which was pretty bland - even with the lemon that the waiter encouraged me to use. I also had a side salad (which I know is not what this cuisine is known for) but it was just a plate of cold, sliced cucumbers, pale tomatoes, and carrots without any seasoning and a couple of lemon slices on the side. We met our son and daughter in law here for dinner. They were already seated when we arrived so we joined them. Then we waited and waited. The place wasn't crowed so they could easily see that the full party was there. They were busy with take away orders but still we waited. I finally went up to the counter and asked if should order our there. The answer was no they would take our order. The waitress finally came over and took our order. We ordered both appetizers and main courses along with some naan. For this service it was very odd that the naan came long after most of the main dishes. Some were starting to get cold by the time it arrived. Even with the service issues, I would come here again and again if the food remains tasting as good as it did that night. I started with a couple of veggie somosas. They were absolutely delicious! Two (one order) is too much for one person, so I would plan on sharing with someone. For my main I had the Mutter Paneer. I would order this every day! It was so rich and creamy. It came out piping hot, which I loved. I was like a warm hug for my belly! They make both Nepalese and Indian cuisine, including standard fare like butter chicken and samosas. The menu is large. We tried a Nepalese appetizer, jhol momo, and it was outstanding. Savory veg dumplings in a zesty tomato-based soup. We also got saag paneer, butter paneer, garlic naan, and a mango lassi. Everything was really delicious and flavorful, and presented with care. I'll start by saying that everything I've eaten has been amazing! If you're trying Nepalese/Indian food for the first time, you're in good hands. These are the dishes I keep coming back to if you need recommendations: - Garlic Naan: A classic, and they do it exceptionally well. It's crispy and chewy and covered in garlic and ghee... what more do I need to say. - Veg Momo: I've tried both the veg and chicken momos, and I prefer the veg ones. They're so flavorful from the spices that you won't miss the meat, and they pair well with the tamarind chutney. Some reviews complained about the momos being frozen or undercooked, but I personally haven't run into that problem. - Veg Samosas: Another dish where I prefer the vegetarian option! I've had the lamb samosas, and although the flavor was excellent, I thought the ground lamb was a bit too dry and crumbly. The veg ones contain potatoes, which make it creamy on the inside and complement the fried exterior. Beware: the samosas are huge! I'd say one per person if you're eating them as appetizers. - Chicken Curry: It'll look small at first, but it's FILLED with meat! Sooo good when eaten with rice and/or naan. Also, I've gotten their food delivered before, and it arrived fresh! So don't let distance stop you from trying this place :) read more

We've ordered here a couple times now, always to go. If you take a bit longer to pick up your order, they do call you to remind you, in case you've forgotten your grumbling tummy. Chicken tikka masala - If you're debating between CTM and butter chicken, I'd strongly recommend the tikka masala. It's rich without being overly so, great balance of savory and spices, and the boneless chicken chunks are a good size and tender. Butter chicken - This was surprisingly sweet. The description does say that they use honey as an ingredient, but this was just too sweet for me. Lamb biryani - Solid choice, I haven't personally tried this one, but I've heard fantastic things from those who would know, and would definitely order this if I was in the mood for biryani. Veg Samosas - Delicious! Good size, perfectly fried, solid spices and flavors. Your entree orders come with papadums I think? They're thin, crispy, savory, and have a little bit of spice to add some complexity. And I love that they always provide mint and tamarind chutney with your meal. read more
