My autistic 8 year old son gets overwhelmed easily in social situations but he loves animals, specifically reptiles. He still wanted a birthday party with his classmates so we booked The Little Zoo as a surprise for him. They were fantastic in working with us and asking questions as how to make my son comfortable. Instead of a show and bringing him as center of attention, I asked them to keep it casual and my son and his friends were able to approach, hold and pet animals and ask questions. This situation put fewer demands on my son, and he was able to enjoy the experience. He held a skink, bearded dragon, tarantula, and so much more. It was a great mix of cuddly and scaly animals. We really appreciated the setup and educational aspects. Rob was very good about recognizing which animals the kids enjoyed most, was patient with toddler moods, and really went above and beyond when he (without asking) recognized and brought some animals out to a child who was experiencing some anxiety and sat away from the party. We had the Little Zoo for my son's birthday party today. Erin and her friend came to the agreed location earlier as agreed to set up and the entire 2 hours the kids were thrilled and pleasantly occupied!! One of the parents told me that his daughter has made up her mind about being a vet when she grows up after today's experience, and the other parent told me that they were VERY nice (she had an experience of the other company's team members taking away the animals after a short while, and were not very engaging with the children). My son is a HUGE bird lover and he sat with the chickens the entire time they were there! Unlike the other petting zoos we've hired/been to before, Erin and her team were very courteous, and VERY good with the kiddos. I would recommend them again and again in a heart beat!! Absolutely amazing. We asked Erin to help us with a birthday party with about 15 young (around 5 yo) kids. She put on an amazing show. She brought a toirtoise, a skink, several rabbits and chickens, a bearded dragon, pythons, a gecko, a tarantula, and many more. She managed the animals and the children so well. We never felt the animals were too stressed and, when necessary, she gently redirected the kids and their excitement to meet so many animals.
