Monk Fish with veloute and buttered leeks (note: this is NOT the monk fish and scallops dish)

Absolutely fabulous for dinner. We had the soup of the day (a leek and potato soup that was nice and light), and the beef cheek rillette to start. You MUST TRY this beef cheek rillette. Tender, juicy shredded beef cheek inside a puff pastry topped with lemon/herb/panko mix, and the plate dressed with a horseradish cream sauce which is not strong at all, just the perfect combination of flavors. For dinner we had the rack of lamb, hake, and fish of the day was monk fish - all were absolutely delectable! A nice bottle of wine and a fresh raspberry tart to finish things off. Happy to learn the history of this place and it's recent reopening in 2022, highly recommend to anyone visiting Dingle

Thanks to a recommendation and reservation made by our Pax House host, we enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Half Door tonight! We started with oysters on the half shell with a shallot red wine vinegar. They were perfect. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his rack of lamb--I think he finished his plate in record time. It verged on embarrassing! He said it was cooked to a perfect medium rare and exceptionally tender. I ordered the pan seared scallops with roasted pancetta and garlic in a garlic butter. The scallops were also perfectly cooked and the accompanying roasted pancetta, garlic and butter rounded out the dish. We couldn't waste the left over garlic butter on my plate, so added our potatoes au gratin to soak up the extra butter. Yum. Unfortunately, we were so full that we weren't able to sample any of their desserts, although the desserts ordered by the table next to us looked incredible. There are so many exceptional restaurants in Dingle from which to choose, and we hope to sample a few more, but Half Door is a great choice among them.

We enjoyed the monkfish with veggies and a wonderful sauce.

They have a casual atmosphere with good service. Suggest you make a reservation as they get busy

Big thanks to this fine establishment! My wife and I were cruising Dingle in search of oysters a few days ago and this was the only place in town that was open serving them. We strolled in and asked the gentleman behind the bar if in fact they had them in stock before being ushered to a table which he confirmed they did. We ordered a quick half a dozen (13 euro) and looked over the menu. Pretty fancy place and it really wasn't in our budget for the evening but they were kind enough to have just our six delicious local oysters and be on our way. Super fresh and salty, hit the spot! I hope next time we are in town to have a full dinner here as it looked and smelled superb!

Awesome food & friendly service. They have a 3-course price fix menu for €40. We feasted on oysters, lobster bisque, baked crab, filet, & a roasted local white fish -- plus dessert & Irish coffee. It seemed like a place that catered to local high-rollers ... Kinda like being in someone's fancy home. Would def recommend ESP for the value of the set menu. Also we walked in without reservations which was fine for a Wed night, but it was busy enough & fancy enough that I think they prefer reservations, especially for larger groups.

My wife and I went to the half door last night. We were greeted warmly by the owner Denis at the front, who made a fantastic recommendation for the wine for dinner. The welcome in the restaurant was the warmest received yet in Kerry. For starter I had the prawn cocktail, my wife had the lobster bisque, and we both shared the raw oysters. Firstly, being from the United States, the oysters were the largest and freshest we had ever had. Denis proudly told us they were locally sourced (as is every dish at the half door) from a nearby peninsula, Cromane. These oysters needed no cocktail sauce or "fixings", as they literally had the fresh taste of ocean so close from outside the door. A spritz of lemon and down the hatch, not to be missed. The prawn cocktail was devine. Presented half deconstructed, I particularly appreciate the sauce on the side that I could add to my own liking. The prawn were large but not too large for a dish such as a cocktail. My wifes lobster bisque was beautiful. It was served with a spoon full of shredded cheese on the side which my wife enjoyed, although I wouldn't have added personally to my taste. Again, presented deconstructed style which was a plus for either taste preference. The spring rack of lamb, now this was something to write home about. I ordered it medium rare (always a safe thing to do in Ireland as red meats tend to come more cooked than requested). The meat came as requested with a delicious, at the same time not overpowering sauce reduction. There was a touch of rosemary throughout. I am not a fan of rosemary aside from Christmas dinner in mashed potatoes, but the sides of roasted potatoes and home made chips (recommended and worth the a la carte price) made up for it. My wife's black sole came on the bone and she was not used to deboning the fish herself, nor I for the matter. Our host Denis gracefully and quietly showed at our request how to do this. The fish had a glorious brown crust and was cooked to perfection. This fish needed no sauce, as it was perfectly cooked to our liking. A bit of butter and spritz of lemon complimented the fish so well. We ended our evening with apple and pear tart with ice cream and a sticky toffee. All house made and served with a house fruit reduction and vanilla bean ice cream. Two glasses of hot port to boot. This restaurant is a rare find. A local feel with charming surroundings, with top class dare I say Michelin star quality and presentation. Denis was a wonderful host from start to finish, making a perfect suggestion for wine (he knows his wines) and checked in on us regularly. Make a booking, this place is packed on the weekends and holidays. Will definitely go again.

Since they don't take reservations, we kept walking but were curious enough to look up the reviews. After seeing how highly rated it was, we decided to come back when we were ready for lunch. I'm so glad we did. We timed it perfectly, avoided the line, and were seated immediately. The service was excellent from the moment we arrived. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food absolutely lived up to the hype. We ordered the chicken goujons, fish tacos, The Fish Box, and the seafood chowder. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. You could tell the seafood was incredibly fresh. What impressed us even more was the value. The prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes we received. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, making it an easy place to relax and enjoy a great meal. Located just a block from the marina, The Fish Box was one of our favorite lunches in Ireland. If you find a line, don't let it scare you away. It's popular for a reason.

SERVICE Delightful and welcoming servers. They were on it with replenishing drinks and asking how everything was. AMBIANCE From the outside, the place appears very unassuming. It's nothing that will catch your eye, but if a local or guide is kind enough to tell you about this place, you're in for a treat. This was done through email on their website and was seamless. This restaurant is on its way to a Michelin star, in my opinion. I'm maybe not a total foodie, but I have eaten in many excellent restaurants and this is among them. All the food we were served seemed to be local and freshly prepared. Even down to the house pickles. Every part of each dish was curated and prepared with thought. The flavors all worked together seamlessly and the dishes were beautiful to look at and to eat. The staff was welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable, and gracious in answering all of our questions. And we had many of them considering we are not locals and we were fascinated with their creations and selections of food. I highly recommend land to Sea restaurant if you're in Dingle. That being said, she was not Irish (every Irish person we came in contact with were lovely!). She sat us and told us the soup was Tomato bisque and I was very excited because it's one of my favorites and I'm a vegetarian (not vegan). There was an early special and you could choose 2 or 3 options. I chose the soup and a fish dish. It did take quite a while for a server to show up and take our order. It then took a long time to get our drinks and it wasn't very busy at that point. The soup was delivered and it was lamb stew. I understand mistakes can happen. The server said I could choose something else on the menu and I didn't see anything that was vegetarian or that I liked. I said the fish alone would be fine. I did not like it at all. It wasn't flavorful. I'm sorry, I know it's an unpopular opinion as I saw many 5 star reviews, but I am very surprised that this is a Michelin restaurant. I would like to add that my husband really enjoyed his meal and the atmosphere was great. Maybe a bad night for them? Or maybe I was just hangry.

Fortunately, we were early enough that we were able to get in here. We saw many turned away shortly after we arrived. Heads up that they have signs pointing to two entrances for the restaurant, but the one on the left side of the building is the correct one. The sign on the right side of the building leads into the kitchen. Yes, we found this out the hard way! The menu features local fish and shellfish and they also serve some local beer and cider. I went with the monkfish and prawn curry and it was very good. The fish and prawns were sweet, flavorful and cooked perfectly and the curry didn't overpower them. The description said the curry also included vegetables, but other than a garnish, these seemed absent. Others in our group enjoyed their fish as well. They had sides of vegetables that weren't seasoned so I'd suggest coming here for the fish, which is what they do very well. As with many places, they were understaffed, but service was fine for our purposes. The atmosphere is casual and includes a fireplace that is likely lit in cooler weather as it did look like a true working fireplace.
