had a great run and decide to go to get some coffee...so excited. walk in, the gentleman was old with ugly gray hair and says "what do you want" not friendly at all.... i asked for an iced coffee but got a hot one and i went up to tell them.u he rolls his eyes and puts it over ice making it lukewarm poop. My friend went to order she stuttered coffee instead of latte and corrected herself and he gets mad and then continues to say next when she was not done ordering. he actually blew it. this is horrible, the environment was super cute though. they were out of everything and they seemed like something was in there behinds. oh and almost forget he slammed the ipad to pay so aggressively and karma got him bc it spun back at him so he had to spin it back for us to pay how embarrassing. he never said thanks or anything. his only words in his vocabulary were "NEXT". poopy job goes to the local coffee...the coffee was horrible taste like watered down sewage with pounds of creamer and sugar. read more

So first of all, this place is now called The Local Bean, as it's changed owners. My husband and I discovered this place when we were in town several months ago looking to buy a house. We were moving from San Francisco, so were very happy to find a coffee shop that feels so much like our favorites from back home. Why is this place so great? The staff was very friendly, the prices are good, and the decor/ambience is quirky and fun. Everything looked well-maintained and clean. My husband is a smoker and even he was glad that the tables outside are labeled non-smoking. But most important, they make a fantastic cup of coffee. I tried both a mocha and a double espresso over two visits. The espresso was strong but not bitter, robust and flavorful. The mocha had the perfect amount of chocolate richness, and wasn't not overly sweet like at Starbucks. My husband loves that they make cubanos too, which are sweetened espressos; if you haven't ever had one, give it a try! Now that we live here in Florida, we plan on having a leisurely coffee break every weekend at The Local Bean, even though it's 45 minutes away. This coffee shop is worth the drive. read more

Stopped in to grab a coffee and breakfast sandwich... Guy that seemed to be running the show was yelling swears at his employees and snapping at customers. At one point he started banging his fists on the counter in back. I get having a bad day, but I've never seen anything like this, and its not fair to take it out on the customers. The decor is nice with local art and whatnot, and they seemed to have some interesting coffee options, but we just couldn't get over the abusive vibe from the staff. And there's no wifi (I was snapped at for even asking). Skip this place unless you thrive on drama. We won't be back - we much prefer Lelu's down the block anyway. read more

The competitive advantage of the Local Bean is that word "local". It appears that actual residents take coffee here, as opposed to other SK joints catering to sun-seeking interlopers. That gives this place a less stressed feel because the customers aren't in a rush; there's always tomorrow, which is not the case for time-limited tourists. Important to note is the (sorta) self-service model. That changes the dynamic and the prices, which apparently suits the regulars. You won't see lines out the door, and you will not see a check in the tens of dollars. All that is good. The food is fine. The service is as you would expect from an owner operator who seems to know everyone. For my taste, the coffee is too weak, a shortcoming remedied by adding some number of extra espresso shots to spruce up the flavor. Otherwise, the LB is all you'd want in a local caff...hence the name, I imagine. Three stars for now because I keep being burned by Siesta's coffee establishments. Blame those easy-money dilettantes from up north crowding us out - we'll take our revenge someday. read more

This place is what a cafe should be. Laid back and hip but not pretentious, very comfortable, and most important, GREAT COFFEE! The baked goodies are excellent too. The first day I went in,they were about a level 6 rude (on a scale of 1-10, 10 being "F U") but I thought maybe I caught them at a bad time, and the coffee was good, so figured I'd give them a try the next day. Maybe I'm a snot, but I feel like you can judge a coffee shop based on foam density and espresso shot value. I got a doppio macchiato, the foam was super bubbly and far from dense, a disappointment. The espresso shots were super tasty though which made up for the less than mediocre "foam." I'm a foam nazi. The atmosphere is fantastic, with little local nik-nak things for sale and such. The owner definitely nailed the "beachy coffee vibe" or w.e. you want to call it. The one guy working was totally nice and that's where the fourth star comes into play. I guess the wide variety of sandwiches and pastries and things also merits a forth star. Conclusion: I couldn't find alot of coffee shops on the key that sparked my interest, or tickled my fancy, so this one is definitely worth a stop. A friend sent us here with a gift card so we just had to try it. What a pleasant surprise! We love good coffee and appreciate someone who knows the nuances of brewing a perfect cup--good ratios, perfect water temp, nice beans. I have to honestly say the coffee was up there with the best I've ever had. Ordered bagel breakfast sandwiches to bring home to the kids. REAL bagels--chewy, proper bagels. Excellent lox. We loved the interior of the place too. Good funky art from local folks, comfy leather couch. Creative blackboard menu in bright colors. This place was a gem. Grab a cup then go stroll on the beach. Come home with breakfast for the kids in a paper bag to allay their "where were you's." Perfection. We'll be back for sure and will enjoy trying to replicate that perfect cup of coffee with our organic Ethiopian Harrar beans. We're fans. read more

It was our first time visiting local bean. I don't usually feel compelled to write reviews but siesta key is a wonderful vacation destination, people who are trying to have a happy, pleasant experience while here should be warned to stay away from the local bean. The woman at the register was just plain miserable....no greeting, no smile, nothing at all to make you feel like a welcomed customer. I ordered a sandwich without the bacon that came with it and asked for turkey instead. I was told that would be an extra charge (which seemed odd because I wasn't asking for bacon and turkey, I asked to replace the bacon with turkey?) The guy making the sandwich was approximately 5ft away, he could clearly hear my order but sent the sandwich out with bacon anyway. When it was brought back to the counter because they made a mistake, the cranky lady said" just take it off". It was a blt with mayo, everything was stuck together, it was a mess to remove...I was up charged for a sandwich that was wrong anyway even though the guy making the sandwich heard me asking them to hold the bacon. How that simple request got screwed up, I don't know?? As I was eating the sandwich, the same not so nice lady started barking at a customer because he was looking down at the counter reading the front page of a newspaper that was sitting there " you can buy that paper, it's for sale!" The customer replied " I was just reading the headlines" I'm assuming these people behind the counter were the owners because I would never have the woman at the counter working there, she's just bad for business... I also watched as she went straight from handling cash to preparing something behind the counter, then a few minutes later she took her ponytail out, ran her fingers through her hair and put her hair up again ( gross!!} and the guy making the sandwiches messed up an order when ours was his only order, the place wasn't busy and he clearly heard me placing the order...it's not rocket science. They didn't seem to care about customer service, accuracy or providing a pleasant, positive experience. My advice to the owners of the local bean is do it right or don't do it at all. You obviously don't care about running a quality business, you're not providing a positive experience for anyone so why not close up shop and find your true calling? A lot of customers are on vacation, trying to have a nice time and you're offering nothing more than a crappy start to their day. read more

This is a small business coffee shop. Excellent coffees, excellent teas, and even a (delicious) bite to eat if you want. I'm normally in and out in a few minutes a few times a month. The Bean gets an A for the course. I list them on my check in info sheets for my Siesta rental properties. Never had a complaint. The owner and his baristas are busy most of the time getting customers what they want, food & drink wise so if you come at a busy time or not, you'll always find locals around who are happy to give you pointers on enjoying the island. read more

I have never taken the time to write a yelp review, but I have never had an experience as horrific as my trip to The Local Bean. I went in to get coffee the other day with my mother and two friends, and truly thought I was on some sort of reality show. The man working (who I'm assuming was the owner) was the least personable man I have ever met. He screamed customers orders back at them and was extremely condescending when a customer would ask a simple question. He was rushing through taking orders as if there was a line out the door when there was ABSOLUTELY NO ONE IN LINE BEHIND US. As if this wasn't bad enough, the woman working told my friend to "get out of the way, because she has orders to take". And once again, there weren't any people in like behind us. Regardless of weather there were 1 or 100 people waiting in line, no customer (or human being, for that matter) should be spoken to like that. Please save yourself the trip and give your business to any other place on Siesta, or use your Keurig to make a cup at home. I would give this establishment zero stars if possible. read more
