    Chicken bahn mi
    Kelly P.

We ate here for lunch on spring break while shopping in Boone. Great casual vibe and lots of variety on the menu. I had the chicken bahn mi. A little different than a traditional bahn mi, but good and flavorful. One kid had the fig sandwich and loved it. One kid had chicken fingers. Husband had the Philly and liked it. They have fried plantains as a side which we lived!

We were in town driving through after cutting a Christmas tree down in the mountains. This was a perfect spot to stop for lunch. The service was great and the menu had a ton of options. The BLT was so good- the fried green tomato and goat cheese was so delicious. Would recommend this spot!

Super cute spot and amazing vibes. We got take out because it had snowed and everything was closing early but we will definitely be back for dine in. The service was fast and friendly and the food was amazing. So many gluten free options!

After a long day of skiing, I was looking for a beverage & a good meal. I love the rustic atmosphere of this place. Enjoyed a seat at the bar and the service was great. I got the Philly sandwich with chips. Delicious. Definitely a popular place. There is street parking or a garage nearby. I recommend this place.

Always a perfect spot to meet friends from 1988 and reminisce at my buddy Andy McDaniel's concrete bar. If they get Two-Hearted I'm moving in.

Really really delicious meal! Had great service the entire visit which I appreciated since it was busy! These nachos were absolutely divine, especially if you love a good sweet and savory combo like me. I also got the Fried Green Tomato BLT with sweet potato fries and totally forgot a photo. But that meal was absolutely delicious as well. I would return

Came here for brunch but ordered off the lunch menu. Large restaurant with plenty of seating and some covered outdoor seating too! Our waitress was polite but seemed busy with tables for a Sunday morning or just didn't check in too often. I have to say the sweet potato fries were amazing. Would return just for those. Overall seems like a pretty decent place to grab a drink and some food.

Came here for Sunday brunch after the place next door took forever. This place was on my list to try so honestly worked out well. There was no wait and the food came out so fast! My blackened goat cheese burger was delicious. The chipotle sauce was really good too. The fresh chips were great with ranch. Overall, the environment was great with both outdoor and indoor seating!

On my recent trip to Boone, my friends and I wanted a night out from the cabin we were staying in and several people recommend The Local to us. This definitely seems like a beloved local bar - and has all the things you'd come to expect from a local bar. Strong drinks at a good price, friendly service, and solid food. We were a group of about 10 on a Saturday night, so I was pleasantly surprised with how short of a wait time we had to be seated. We had started by ordering drinks at the bar and by the time we were almost done with our first round our table was sat. I opted to split the steak frites and fish and chips with my friend. I loved the steak frites. I'm always a sucker for a medium rare steak and some form of potato. While service was friendly, it was a little slow - but I am assuming that's because of our large group on a busy weekend night. Would definitely go back next time I'm in Boone.

Beth was such a great server! The way she described the Caesar Brussel sprouts was enough to make my friend and I drool. (We both got that as our sides). She was always on top of our table. My fried green BLT was absolutely incredible and I never order sandwiches. The sourdough, the sauce, the bacon...all fantastic! Holy cow...and the cheese Kurds. OMG. . There is indoor and outdoor seating with cute and eclectic decor. I also ordered the wings to go for my husband and he said they were excellent! A great place in Boone - highly recommend!

We were hungry and wanted to grab something on our road trip home and decided to stop in Boone. We looked over our Yelp bookmarks and after confirming App State was playing away this weekend, we decided to stop in to The Local. Regardless of football season, the traffic and parking downtown can be a struggle. After reading several reviews, we believe we saved this because of fellow Yelpers, Mike and Marie O. who visited in May of this year. When we arrived, the wait we were quoted was over 90 minutes. We asked if the bar offers open seating and we were told yes. We told them we were comfortable sitting at the bar since there was only two of us. They approximated we could be seated in about 10 to 15 minutes, which sounded great to us! Because it was very cold during our visit (in the 30's) we waited inside the entry which is very small. Every time the door opened, a blast of cold air hit us. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait long. We had already perused the menu and had a good idea of what we wanted to order. Our server, a friendly young woman, took our drink orders and provided menus. We asked for her recommendations and quickly decided to order the following: My wife chose the Roasted Salmon (Grilled Scottish salmon served over a bed of caesared brussels sprouts with applewood smoked bacon & roasted turmeric cauliflower), and a side of sweet potato fries. I picked the O.G. BURGER, a char-grilled burger served on a toasted brioche bun. I chose Swiss, lettuce, applewood smoked bacon with red onion. The overall feel of The Local is very quaint and comfortable, and the two ladies servicing the bar area were both very competent and friendly. Our orders arrived in a timely manner and looked absolutely delicious. Lucky for us they tasted as fantastic as they looked! We would definitely recommend to others when staying or passing through Boone and look forward to stopping in again. We really enjoyed our long weekend trip to the Johnson City, Tennessee area. Boone, NC is a great stop either way going across the mountains.

Always great. Nice crusty bread. Tender chicken. Thick mozzarella. Pesto spread is AMAZING. Arugula adds nice texture and subtle flavor. All around amazing. Every. Single. Time.

Their bartenders are, to a person, superlative. Haley, Lexi, and Emily (still in-training, though…read moreshe has more-than-ample experience) were all professional and delightful this Boonerang weekend. If only the establishment would spring for cable during the World Cup, my experience of The Social as a "sports bar" would've been unparalleled compared to the other pretenders who decided the U.S. Open was the only "sport" worth airing. If I'd only come for wings and such, I'd've had no notes. But guys, your salads are culinarily (and decidedly) confused. My burrata was delivered atop a spiral of beefsteak wedges, nestled among wild greens, with zero seasoning, which is a hate crime when it comes to tomatoes; golden beets would've elevated it considerably, normally without much consideration... however. I'd thankfully chosen to add salmon, which was cooked to perfection, saving the dish. Haley suggested salt and pepper, which was a clutch move. Given the pleasant part of my previous experience, the salmon salad I ordered two nights later was even more discombobulated. Emily asked what kind of dressing I'd prefer, and I managed to avoid recoiling from the options provided: bleu cheese, ranch, thousand island... and then, finally, a cilantro-lime vinaigrette - the only suitable option. Instead of a deep plate, this was served essentially as a "bowl" that one might receive from delivery, only in a ceramic vessel. "Crispy" garbanzo beans (?!) were in one section of the plate, worse green olives than came with my martinis in another, four sad cucumber slices and pickled red onions in yet another, and in the saddest section, under-cooked yellow beets - half-run through a mandoline to make matchsticks, only still-connected at one end into slices to make Hell-deemed beet sporks. Again, all atop mixed greens, which are commonly available, even at Wal-Mart. I didn't deign to more than glance at my neighbors' plates, for fear I'd take even more offense, but the people making food at The Social are either under-staffed or inexperienced, as being unserious would likely wash out if anyone were to pay attention. Regardless, management is to blame for such disappointing experiences, and not their cooks, and certainly not their bartenders. Do better by Boone, and stop reinforcing the notion that standards are somehow lower in the High Country. Don't make me go to Macado's when I visit again next year.

They have an open kitchen concept that could be an amazing experience (huge wood fire oven you can watch the cooks work, watch the pizza crust being tossed in the air, toppings added, and pies created) but sitting at the bar totally ruined that - trash all over the floor, employees throwing order tickets on the floor, rags and a towel under the prep sink, and worst of all - the over flowing trash cans with rubber gloves falling out. It was gross. The employee's had no respect for the open concept or keeping a clean cooking area. All the pieces to make the kitchen amazing (as it was obviously designed) are there, I just wish it was being used that way. Put away the clean dishes vs leaving them in those cleaning racks for everyone to look at, empty the trash, take some pride in the work. If it was treated like a sushi bar and glorified the way it can be, I'd give it 10 out of 5 stars!

I believe there were about 10 to 12 options available on tap, and I went with what was listed as an Irish stout from somewhere in the Northeast. It wasn't bad, though it seemed more like an imperial stout. My sandwich choice was the Cowboy, with ground elk at its core. It was a good choice too, and the accompanying fried onions and melted cheese complemented the meat well. I ordered the burger medium, but I think I'd go for medium rare if I could go back in time. The medium option wasn't bad, but I think a little less heat and a little more moisture would only make things better. I kept things simple with the side item, going for the fries which were of the thinly sliced McDonald's variety, not bad but nothing remarkable. The server covering my table was pleasant and prompt, though soft spoken so I occasionally had to ask her to repeat herself amidst the music and noise. I wouldn't call any of these selections a bargain, but the prices didn't veer too far from what you'll find in many burger joints. All in all, not an earthshaking experience, but a place I'd be willing to go back to. 3.5 stars.

Of note- it didn't have a huge window in the room, just a small one towards the ceiling. There was a tv with lots of channels and a channel guide. We received some coupons and recommendations to nearby businesses which was a nice touch. Our experience was a bit different because it was very snowy so we couldn't enjoy the rooftop bar. The parking was also tricky- they have a loading zone right in front for checking in, but we circled the block several times and it was taken every time so it was kind of a pain to unload our car. We also had trouble finding the parking lot (even with the address, directions and map) which is behind the hotel, across the street and diagonal from the hotel. We had to circle a few times to find it. But that may have just been because it was dark and snowing. Our favorite part was definitely the breakfast. It is at the downstairs bar. It is complementary when you purchase the parking pass, and you order what you want from a menu. They have lots of options, including fresh fruit, hard-boiled eggs, and lots of pastries and baked goods from stick boy bakery in town. We love stick boy so this was amazing!
