Went here for their wings because it was listed as a Top 10 places in Raleigh for Wings. Rating is only gor their wings. Overall, I give this a 3 stars. Ordered the Mild, hot, jerk and dry rub. The mild was pretty standard except I got boneless instead of wing in. Not sure if it was because I ordered a lb vs. the 6 wings. Either way, no biggie. Hot was not hot and didn't have much flavor The dry rub didn't have much flavor either and didn't look like a lot of rub on there at all. The jerk was definitely the best. Had a unique taste to it that I liked and I generally don't like jerk. Giving them a 3 mainly for the jerk. May revisit when I'm done with my Raleigh Wing Tour to try again. Here for BBQ. Had brisket $20 and 1/2 slab ribs $14. Each with 2 sides. appetizers of hush puppies $ 7 Service was great. No problems Hush puppies arrived quickly and hot with sweet butter. Very tasty. Would order again Brisket was 3 slices tasty but VERY fatty. Sides of bake beans very good. Slaw. Did not care for at all a lot of dill mushy. Mac n cheese was excellent. But no crusty topping . 1/2 slab ribs small , not very meaty. Tender good flavor. Potato salad was OK When check came. Brisket was $2 higher than menu price. The food here is amazing as well as the service. They were constantly checking in with you but not so much that it's over the top. They also have a great selection of food and drinks, they had a little bit of everything for everyone. They also had a great atmosphere. Multiple projectors on a screen showing basketball and golf. Rolled in around 12:30 after working all morning on a Saturday to watch some football games & obliviously did not realize I was across the street from the Canes arena. This place was bumpin by 5:30 before the Canes game & their service through it all was amazing. Jesse, Lizzie, & Renee killed it behind the bar serving up drinks as well as some delicious pulled pork barbecue. I am from out of town (Philly) & loved the hospitality here as well as the friendly patrons of this establishment. They have a ton of TV's & some amazing drink selections on tap. I ended up being a closet Hurricanes fan & staying past 9:30 to watch the rest of the hockey game, go Canes. This bar, the staff, & their on point service has been my favorite one visited in the last two weeks traveling & working in North Carolina. Good parking options & it's near a lot of main roads in the town, there is also a hotel next door if you're going to a game. Love this place & I'll be coming back whenever I'm in town for work. I lied I'm back! I visited again for lunch on Monday after spending 15 hours here watching sports over the weekend on Saturday & Sunday. Ella served me & Stephanie greeted me recognizing me from the weekend visit. This place is hands down the best service & traditional American / BBQ food in Raleigh. While in town for work and staying at the hotel nearby, I ventured over to Backyard Bistro to enjoy some dinner. The hostess asked if I wanted to sit in the bar area or the restaurant, and then quickly told me that there were booths in the bar and I could order everything that I can order in the restaurant-I just needed to order from the bartender. That sounded fine, so I went ahead and sat in the bar. Unfortunately, the bartender was pretty busy and I was not able to get a menu. So I went back to the hostess and asked to move to the restaurant side. She seemed annoyed at that. Once I was seated at a table, I was immediately greeted and brought a menu. The server was fantastic and took great care of me. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and fries. The pork was good but the fries were soaked in oil-not my kind of fry, really. It's a huge space and if it looks like a chain, that's because it used to be a Damon's Restaurant. The location is tucked away off of Trinity Road, across from RBC Center. Backyard Bistro's layout is similar to Blinco's up on Glenwood: bar in the center and a dining room on each side... The main room has got some serious big screen TV's that have good picture quality for all the big games. You've got speaker boxes at the tables so you can hear the play by play for any screen. Triangle Red Sox Nation meets here for a lot of events and they often have live music here. Food-wise we're talking ribs, steak, burgers, sandwiches and wings. The hush puppies I got were really good, a large basket of warm puppies. And the garlic-parmesan wings were tasty without being saucy. Visited today since there wasn't a hockey game, basketball game or anything else happening at PNC so we knew we could get in the door! It can get pretty jammed otherwise. Didn't know they offer Brunch on Sundays, which is quite a nice selection of breakfast items, sandwiches, burgers & salads. We opted for the regular menu since we had a $35.00 Restaurant.com certificate & hadn't eaten anything at all and it was already past noon. I got the half slab ribs which came clean off the bone, were tender as can be, and had a nice sweet (but not too sweet) sauce on them. I choose the half size portion of the house salad with their homemade blue cheese dressing as one side and the gratin potatoes as the other, which were delish with sour cream, cheese and chives on them. My partner had the $22.00 ,18 ounce cowboy ribeye steak, which is huge! It was cooked perfectly and thanks to the quick tips here for reminding us their steaks are the same ones the Angus Barn uses, only there that steak would have cost $38.00 for 5 ounces less! Hard to believe! Anyway, she took half of it home and it'll sure make a nice dinner tomorrow. We also shared the "Lulu Bear" brownie which is homemade and full of walnuts, served warm and topped with ice cream and chocolate sauce. I don't know how we had the room, but we ate every bit of it! The staff is excellent, ever friendly and ever ready to get you whatever you need. I love all the TV's and the little speakers at the tables. Went on a Thursday night. The menu was full of great options but this is bar food, so don't go in with high expectations. Convenient to our hotel & fairgrounds. Presentation was better than the flavor. We had the Cubano & French dip sandwiches but we were unfortunately disappointed by the overall quality. First things first, we came here after my beloved St Louis Blues lost to the Hurricanes and they were still open, with bar bites and great service. We ordered the wings, hushpuppies and nachos. I had the Brisket Mac and Cheese and it was not disappointing, actually it was delicious. The collards were the best I've had outside of my grandmothers. Went with a couple of friends for a 5:00 dinner. Great sports bar environment. Lots of massive tv screens with speakers and volume control at the table. Decor is heavy on the NCSU theme. I ordered the Shepherd's Pie. It's not the traditional English version with a crust and vegetables. Enjoyed the spicy beef used. Cheese was a little understated, I could have used a bit more of it. We were excited to try Backyard Bistro! We were visiting Raleigh for a basketball game at Reynolds Coliseum and Backyard Bistro was the perfect location for us to grab a bite to eat before heading to the game (about 15 minutes away). We assumed we had PLENTY of time to eat and make it to the game on time. We were wrong. Granted, it was a Saturday night around 5:30, but the traffic in the restaurant wasn't anything out of the ordinary and was not "packed" by any means. I loved the setup. Our spot allowed us to face several large T.V.'s, with our own personal speaker system at the table. PERFECT for my sport-loving husband. We sat down and the waiter tended to us immediately, taking and bringing our drink orders out quickly. After ordering, we rarely saw him again until our food came out (about 55 minutes after placing the order). Unfortunately, we were not impressed. Not only did the food take excessively long to bring out--but the waiter never came over to apologize or ask if there was anything he could do to help. We saw SEVERAL tables ask for the bill for their drinks and they got up and left without waiting and/or paying for their food. One family said they had been waiting for their food over an hour and they had somewhere else to be. We were on the verge of doing the same thing. Just as we were about to leave, the food arrived. I ordered the loaded backyard nachos that came with house fried corn ships, queso, shredded lettuce, salsa, sour cream, and pulled pork that I added on. I was splitting the nachos with my cousin so we ordered the large portion and it was HUGE. After the debacle with the poor service and slow wait time, I didn't have high expectations for the food, but I was pleasantly surprised! The nachos were delicious. The portion size was awesome and I was more than content. Maybe the restaurant was having an off night. I'd be willing to give them another try and try something else off the menu since I enjoyed the nachos so much. Hopefully, you'll have better luck with the service then we did! read more

I have had catering from Backyard Bistro for a number of years, off an on. I have to say, I am not the one purchasing the catering, however I am consuming it. I have had their breakfast catering wich was gray / green eggs, not really cooked home fries, and other items that I have tried to forget because of how passed off I was, that people making this swill, have no regard for the people that are going to eat it. They have put out some good meals, and I'll give them their due for those, but the overwhelming amount of time it is, a disorganized mess. The lack of enough salad for all, only sweet tea, the worst cobbler I have ever had (canned apple pie filling?), etc, etc. The box lunches... wow! @#$!+!!! Seriously! Disgusting! Chicken salad soup in a wrap (too much mayonnaise). Too much bread not enough filling. Oh, and I left out not providing napkins, countless times, and cutlery packs do not count as including napkins. The problem is, I can go on and on... the "self label" themselves as the Triangles premier caterer. Not even close! I even used to personally eat at the restaurant, but just can't do that any longer as how punished I feel from eating their catering. Make up your own mind, but if they don't care about the quality and presentation of their products and food, I would bring my business elsewhere... read more

Came here with another couple on a Tuesday evening. Not crowded at all and we're seated right away in the outdoor patio area. Server was friendly but I felt she took too long getting small items like condiments back to us. They are known for their beef and pork. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich on a gluten-free bun. I had a side of broccoli and lemon juice, and the broccoli was seasoned well. My husband ordered the wings and said they were really good. We placed an order to be delivered by Grub Hub. We had never heard of your bistro before but were looking for something different & thought we'd give you a try. I actually tried to send this to the restaurant via email but when the email came back as undeliverable when addressed to the email on their website I decided to just post it in Yelp instead. I really need to let you know that it was one of the worst meals serve had in our six years in Raleigh. The ribs were unbelievably dry. I have never ever had a rib that dry. The pulled pork tasted like the kitchen had over-doused it with vinegar. I have never had pulled pork that was so inedible because of the vinegar taste. I have to assume there was a kitchen accident & that you don't normally prepare or serve it that way. The large wings were average sized at best. They weren't large or jumbo as described. I think greens are best prepared without sugar. Yours were very sweet & off-putting. The cheddar & jalapeno grits were soupy & flavorless. They didn't taste like cheddar or jalapeno. I'd I hadn't known what they were supposed to be I would never have guessed. I didn't tell my partner what they were. When he asked I told him to guess; he said they didn't taste like anything. And he was right. Bland with no flavor or seasoning. We ordered the redneck egg rolls which were so dry I could only eat two bites. The hot links were dry & hard. Way over-cooked. The mac & cheese wasn't horrible but tasted like it came out of a box. I'm certain it's not housemade. For the prices y'all are charging your food should taste good & should be housemade. The only thing my partner liked was the brisket, which I didn't like because you ruined it by putting that disgusting sauce on it (I don't like sauce) & he also liked the baked beans, which I didn't think were great, but I'm not a big fan of baked beans. I really feel like that entire meal was a waste of money. I should have just gone to Harris Teeter & picked up some TV dinners. They would have been tastier & more flavorful and not cost anywhere near as much. Please talk to your kitchen manager about the food. It's sad that you're making horrible BBQ in the South. Food was called service was awful manager refused to come out and talk to us while they did comp the bill they pick the plates up like we were going to steal what was left on the plates which was almost the entire meals. This is a great pre-concert dinner (and post-concert drinks) location. My friends and I came here prior to seeing Bruno Mars at PNC Arena. Parking was $10, which is half the price of PNC parking and only a short walk to the venue. Service was touch and go. The hostess was very helpful when we came in; giving us a wait time but assuring that we were seated well before that time. However, our table service wasn't great. While our server was pleasant, she didn't really check in and it was hard to get her attention when we needed something and even then she'd probably forget to bring it. They had a special Bruno Mark 24K Magic menu for the evening; basically specialty drinks and an abbreviated kitchen menu. We all had variations of the Backyard Sampler (great bang for your buck!). The ribs with sweet bbq sauce were delicious, as were the boneless wings with ginger teryaki sauce. The sliders weren't great; they came with plain pulled pork on buns...no sauce! I didn't know bbq without sauce was a thing. Then by the time we were able to get a hold of our server, ask for bbq sauce, and have her deliver it, my plate was essentially empty. Skip the sliders but other than that, the food was good. I did come here on an event night, when they were busy, so I'd be willing to give them another try on a regular night. read more

What a mess. I'll start by saying I know I was here on a busy night- an event at the arena across the street. However- we had one member of our party agree to get there a few mins early to get a seat-- and her name on list. And they wouldn't. Even though they had table available for our party of six. Then when our full party arrived five minutes later- we went on a list-- and an hour later we are still waiting. Oh let's not forget- we came here to eat. But they were selling parking spaces so restaurant patrons had no place to park. The food? Who knows? We apparently aren't getting to eat.
