I have recently relocated from Chicago where I had the same hairstylist for roughly 7 years, so I was a little scared starting in a new city from scratch with a new stylist. No problem at all. I'm the type of person who likes to sit back and let the experts do the work and Sarah does just that. You can trust her to let her creativity do great work on its own but also if you have specific ideas about your hair she will execute a great cut to your liking. All the staff is really nice too. I recently got a Deva cut from Sarah and the entire experience was great. The salon itself is really beautiful and has a homey feeling. I was met right away and offered water. I have really curly hair and have always been disappointed with how my past cuts have turned out. I first went to Rosie over a decade ago after going to an ASIAN woman to lighten my ASIAN hair - makes sense right? Who knows asian hair the best than another asian right!? WRONG. After my burnt off hair grew back in, I was willing to spend a serious dollar on the best colorist and asked for the top colorist at a well known salon. They gave me Rosie and I have been going to her now for over a decade, even driving over an hour now (I moved) to still go there. She is simply...the best. Her and her stylists have been senior top stylists at some of the best places in LA and it definitely shows. She is a color genius and has taken my tricky asian hair from black to platinum blonde (without looking trashy or orange) and throughout the years I have had endless, constant compliments on my hair. I don't think I've ever left not absolutely loving my color. Her place is a great combo of quality and professionalism. You get all of the quality of high end stylists and colorists, without all of the pretentiousness. She is also a great, funny, real person, and everyone there is just the nicest. Just good people. Now being pregnant, Rosie has been coloring my hair with the most amazing non-toxic ORGANIC hair color that makes my hair look just as good as the hard stuff. Wasn't sure about it in theory, but totally sold after seeing the results. I also use her clean, organic hair products and love them. If you're looking for a quality salon with high end, seriously talented stylists (because that's what it's really about right), this is your place. One of the best Cool Salon that I've been! They have very warming atmosphere, great staff, cool decor, great hair products and most especially awesome customer service. Been in LA for over a year, have tried quite a few different salons and barbers and left less than content...as an actor with thin/fine hair, I need someone who can work magic with what I have left while still allowing me to pay for rent at the end of the month. I'm picky and chatty, which I'll admit isn't always easy for a stylist...but I'm 3 for 3 now visiting Sarah at the Local so I'm quite comfortable recommending her and it (at least to my guy friends, I can't speak to the women's cuts but everyone there always looks happy and relaxed at least). They will work with and listen to you, game-plan before they start hackin' away, and make sure you're comfortable with what's going on as it's happening. The space itself is open and comfortable, and I feel welcome even when I show up with a 5-day beard, cargo shorts, and an old Red Sox shirt...they're probably smiling because they know they're going to send me out the door better-looking than when I came in. This is a super late review but I came to this salon back in March on the recommendation of my tattoo artist who always has such cute hair & met the amazing talented Kayleigh! She is a haircoloring goddess. I showed her some pictures of what I wanted & she checked the integrity of my hair (not so good after a home bleaching job) & put me on a regimen of Olaplex to fix it. That stuff is magic! Hair was less gummy by the next appointment & she got my hair to a lavender-silver balayage that made everyone swoon. She gave me some additional hair dye (organic, which I love) & instructions to keep the color longer. It lasted for a good while & even when the purple washed out, my hair still had a really nice balayage that I still get compliments to this day. I continue to recommend her to anyone who wants a nice hair dye job. Also, the appointment itself was fun as she was super accommodating & chatty, the stylists were nice, & the salon itself was clean, laid-back w a cool eclectic theme & good music. She takes the time to really understand what you want out of your haircut and how you tend to style (or in my case not style) your hair each day, so you can have a look that works for you all the time - not just the day it's cut. She's also super helpful if you're feeling a little lost or unsure of what you want and need suggestions/recommendations. In the past, I've struggled with communicating what I've wanted to hairstylists, but Susannah just gets me and I love it every time! This is place is great! Alyssa Kim did such a great job with my unruly curly hair! I know can style it easily thanks to the shape of my cut. I used to go to Batia hair salon in Beverly Hills who did good job, but the attitude and lack of professionalism drove me away. I'm always weary of getting my hair cut because I have had my hair long since forever. I love this salon and I put all of my trust in Kayleigh. I've been 3 times and I'm so looking forward to my next visit! I wanted to share an experience I had last time I was there because I read a not so good review and feel that I need to share. The last time I went in Kayleigh had a busy morning and was finishing up a client's beautiful teal hair. When she went to blow dry my hair, there was a little bit of green in it! I noticed right away and she fixed the problem, but when I got home I noticed there was the tiniest bit of green still there! I panicked a little bit but contacted the salon right away and Kayleigh squeezed me in for a quick appointment the next morning. This is the customer service you can expect from the salon. Quick. Easy. Friendly. It's so scary when your hair turns out a way in which you didn't expect it to turn out! And when you get your hair done by professionals, you expect the best, and I will continue to go to The Local because they ARE the best. The tiny bit of green came out of my hair after washing it and Kayleigh was sweet and apologized profusely. I have been writing and rewriting this review for almost 6 months, trying to do this place justice, but finally I decided it would never be perfect and I should just write my 5 star review. I happened upon this place because it's down the street from where I work and my friend had been going there a few months. I had recently gone blonde (from a Level 3/4 --dark brown) and I had been getting less than perfect results. My hair was brassy, the tone was uneven, and it was beginning to feel fried. In comes Kayleigh. In one go, she was able to resuscitate my brassy, dying hair and give it life again. More than that, she gave me my confidence back. The cuts and color just got better from that first trip to The Local Salon. We went all sorts of pastels, and the whitest white you could imagine. My hair was healthier and happier than ever! Not only is Kayleigh a hair wizard, she's also funny, smart, caring and makes everyone who sits in her chair feel beautiful and welcome. I'm not even kidding when I say that we've gotten to the point where I just sit in her chair and say "Do whatever you want." I have never walked out of this place less than thrilled with my hair. Every idea I come in with, Kayleigh makes happen. Even my husband, who hates haircuts and would avoid them for weeks, is happy to come to Kayleigh. This is huge, trust me. I can't say enough great things about this place. Not only is Kayleigh incredible, but all of the stylists and staff who work here are amazing.
