The combination of an exquisite background of the lower Adirondacks, stunning renovated barns, and an owner who puts so much care and love into her property made booking Burlap and Beams a no-brainer. All of my questions over the past year were promptly answered by Terri, not only with information but with a personalized genuineness that made me feel like I wasn't just "another bride." Over the course of the year, many upgrades were made to the already beautiful barns such as a brand new bar, upgraded chandeliers and lights, and more gorgeous plants and flowers than you can imagine (all planted and maintained by Terri.) The day of our wedding was pure magic. The property was so gorgeous under the overcast, fall day. The fog over the mountains behind where we were married, combined with the foliage of the mountains, was epic and surreal. Terri switched out some beautiful hydrangea garlands over the cocktail hour space because she wanted fresh flowers for the day. (I'll note that every time I have been to the barns she is out and about getting her hands dirty with planting and decorating.) The space is interactive multiple buildings. It is the perfect size, too. It didn't feel too big for a smaller wedding of 80, such as ours. It is also large enough to hold many more people, without it feeling too cramped. The main barn is literally done for you; you don't have to do a THING. The lights, garlands over the brand new bar and on the walls, and new lighting create this amazing atmosphere. While she used to have a huge mason jar chandelier, she upgraded this past season to these gorgeous wrought iron chandeliers. With that said, even though this venue is a barn and it's name may have the word "burlap" in in, it is by no means your run of the mill generic "rustic barn" style venue. Terri most definitely knows how to update the barn as the seasons change and different wedding decor goes in and out of style (as well as maintain the staples that remain season after season.) Burlap and Beams also has a barn that is filled with decorations. We used wood slabs for our centerpieces, chalkboard easels, and a number of other decorative pieces that were all there for us to use. In addition to the barns, the property extends to a flowing brook surrounded by trees. There are hanging lights scattered throughout the trees, as well. This made for an EPIC photo location, it was so gorgeous. I am so happy we found Burlap and Beams. Terri is wonderful and an amazing owner of this gorgeous property. The value is excellent and if you are someone who visions a more DIY-style wedding where you can opt for something other than a pre-packaged plan, Burlap and Beams is for you.

The room had two king beds, a small miracle for a man accustomed to one, and the soundproofing was a triumph of human engineering. Even with Oktoberfest raging below, once the balcony door was closed the silence was so complete that I could almost hear my own thoughts apologizing for existing. The hotel sits right on Canada Street, which is the main artery of Lake George's little heart. Shepard Park is practically across the street, full of families, music, and the particular chaos of people on vacation trying to have a perfect time. The staff managed to stay cheerful through it all, smiling with the kind of sincerity that must come from good training or good souls. Parking was a game of Tetris, but I was grateful for the garage. Once my car was wedged in, I had no reason to drive again. Everything that mattered was within walking distance. The rooftop terrace deserves a poem, though I am too lazy to write one. The lake spread out below, blue and calm, and for a few minutes I believed in peace on earth. There is no hot tub, which feels like a crime against nature. The patio outside the pool almost begs for one. Imagine sitting there in January, snow falling into the water, steam rising like forgiveness. The restaurant did not thrill me, and the prices made my wallet flinch. Still, it was a fine stay, the kind that makes you feel momentarily better about the human race before the bill arrives to remind you of reality. Four stars. A lovely place, too expensive for what it is, but worth remembering all the same.

We stayed in a room with 2 queen beds, it was very spacious and clean. There was only two draws to put our clothes so we each only got one. The shower was big, but the water pressure wasn't great. Overall, it was a nice experience and I would recommend staying here. Also there is a roof top which is very nice and has a view of the lack and mountais. You definitely need to check it out.

The security presence feels a bit oppressive and inconsistent, often seeming to pick and choose who they approach. Every year we report that the pool deck becomes extremely slippery, yet despite repeated complaints, nothing has been done. This year, I actually witnessed someone fall because of the slippery surface, which was very concerning. Unfortunately, bringing concerns to management hasn't been a positive experience. The manager doesn't seem willing to listen, has difficulty de-escalating situations, and is often not very respectful toward the staff. It's disappointing because good management can make a big difference, especially when it comes to guest safety and employee morale. Overall, it's an okay resort if you don't need assistance or have any concerns. But if you expect your feedback to be heard or safety issues to be taken seriously, you may be disappointed.

However, we didn't want a courthouse vow exchange, but an actual spiritual ceremony. We had no witnesses, so Joy kindly provided her two friends, and even married us in her own home! My memories of that day are wonderful. The reason I'm reviewing her now...9 years later...is that we've started considering options for vow renewal for our 10yr anniversary. And, one thought was...'I wonder if Joy is still in the marrying business? Wouldn't it be special to travel to Saratoga and renew our vows with her?' Ha! We'll see!
