Food: From the pizzas to the squirrel nuts to the burgers, I haven't had a bad dish. My parents are locals, so I go here with them almost every time I'm up in Tawas, and the food never disappoints. Oh! And don't miss the specials board when you come in! Service: The wait staff are absolute gems. Some have befriended my parents, and they are attentive and amazing. The lodge is far better than the outside appearance might suggest. I've always passed it by because it just doesn't look that nice from the road, but once you walk in, it's quite nice. Certainly not very fancy, but it's very clean and it has kind of a lodge diner vibe. The wait staff is super friendly and the food was very good. We had a Perch, which is wonderful, a burger, and the fried shrimp. I was told the shrimp and the burger were also excellent. I tried one of the onion rings, and it was delicious. Very nice family restaurant! The flavor, portion and quality of the food is very good and served at a reasonable price. We've only been there for breakfast and while the menu appears limited, the staff will try to accommodate special requests. They are very friendly and prompt. Daily specials add additional options. We definitely need to come back during non-breakfast times as the food served to others smells and looks great! Hopefully I can update this when we do. read more

If I were rating on pizza alone, I would give this place a 5.5 stars. However, there are some areas that need to be highlighted. My main question is why is the menu so hard to find? It took me a while to find it and when I did, it looked like the picture was taken with an Android. I feel like the menu should at least be scanned and put on a website. In addition to that, it should be updated as soon as possible when items aren't being served. This is because I asked for a few different things that were unavailable. I usually give them the benefit of the doubt since this place has gotta be busy, but one time someone on the phone said they didn't have chicken items because it goes bad. That was confusing to me as there are multiple chicken items on the menu (spring salad, chicken quesadilla, pizza toppings, etc). I also asked for soup, to which they said they didn't even have. I mean, it's December for crying out loud. Why is it even on the menu?! Like I said, the pizza is elite. Absolutely can't miss. I'm just someone who likes to help local businesses out by more ways than just giving them my money. read more

We go to this restaurant often--we are locals. Tonight our dinners were exceptionally delicious (it's Jun 30,2022). Husband ordered the 3-pc Cod dinner. It came with baked potato, green beans, and a roll. It was great! The fish was moist and tasty. I ordered the Grizzly Burger with onion rings. Yes, I walked in hungry. No, I did not expect to eat all of a half-pound burger. Yes, I DID eat the whole thing! It was juicy, flavorful, and the lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onions were fresh and delish. I had ordered Mayo for the burger, but didn't receive it--I knew after the first bite it was missing, but I didn't care, the burger was so tasty, I didn't want more Condiments. Over all--we typically recommend this to out of town company, it's reliable. But after tonight's service?? KEEP THAT COOK!! This was over the top good. read more

I think when you are up north, you need to expect up north. Is there a hostess stand? No, find a seat and sit in it. Service overly friendly? Up north people roll at their own pace and are mildly friendly if they know you (the friendly portion, by the by, is how the entire state of Michigan is...). And just because you show up before another table - if you are at a 7 top and the people after are at a 2 top....the 2 top is going to win. Is the atmosphere romantic? No, there are carcasses on the wall...you are up NORTH. It's a badge of honor to have a stuffed coyote in the corner under a bear head. The food was good. We had breakfast items and pizza bread, which is bread with pizza stuff inside. Not quite a calzone, don't go crazy. It is pizza, in bread. It was noon so most of our legal table had beer. Kids meals were plenty of food for $4. My salad, which I was expecting typical iceberg was actually fancy fresh lettuce with a healthy number of toppings. Total tab for 4 people (2 of whom had beer) - $24 including tip. Though some feel it is the up and coming Traverse, Tawas is a black culinary whole. This is a town that I waited 25 minutes in a lobby to order a donut (at a donut shop) and failed. It isn't a metropolis, you just hope for good food at a decent price that is delivered with even part of a grin. The Lodge is better than that, so I give it a thumbs up and 4 stars. read more

First time here. We visited on a Sunday around 12:45 pm. I was worried they'd be packed with after churchers, but we found a table easily. Be aware, there isn't one of those signs that says "seat yourself" or "please wait to be seated." We caught a server's eye and she told us we could sit anywhere. There were no 2 tops available, so we sat at the end of a 6 top. Our server, who seemed harried throughout our stay, came by to clean the table. As there were no dirty dishes or silver, we didn't realize it hadn't been cleaned. The décor can be described as "man cave on steroids." I counted at least twenty dead animals mounted on the wall; numerous deer, a couple of bears, at least one wolf, and a Canadian goose hanging from the ceiling in mid-flight. Oh, and there was a dead fish mounted on the entrance to the bathroom. Lots of wood trim, and a bar at the far end of the room. The bar would look nice if it wasn't so cluttered. Our server brought us menus and we ordered drinks--iced tea for me and diet coke for my husband. I chose the 1/4 pound cheeseburger, and he had the fish and chips. We started with a basket of onion rings, which arrived in record time--literally 5 minutes after our server left the table. The plentiful order was greasy but good. I know--nobody orders onion rings and thinks of their cholesterol. The ketchup bottle on our table was all but empty; our server quickly brought another. The speed of arrival of the onion rings set an expectation that our food would arrive quickly, but it was not to be. The last two onion rings were cold and congealed long before our food arrived. I noticed that all of the servers, including ours, were rushing to attend to all of the tables. It seemed to me that the addition of another server would have been beneficial for them and for the customers. It was a good 40 minutes before our food arrived. Our server left quickly before I noticed that there was no cheese on my burger. I waited for a few minutes, hoping to flag her down, but no luck. I was hungry, and concerned about how long it might take to slap a piece of cheese on it, so I went ahead and ate it. Burger was good, not great. Bun was a little too toasted, with burned portions around the perimeter. It was dressed with tomato, onion, and pickle. I added mustard, and found it to be fine. My side was potato salad, and I cannot sing its praises enough. Most potato salad in restaurants comes from a big can, and it all tastes the same. This, however, smacked of homemade. The potato chunks were irregular in size, giving the impression that they had been cut by a person, not in a factory. They were cooked perfectly--not mushy and not crunchy inside. The rich dressing was flawless, with both sweet and sour notes. It included bits of celery and egg, and I think I tasted onion as well. Frankly, I could have eaten an entire bowl of this stuff and nodded off in a carb-induced haze under the gaze of the dead animals decorating the walls. My husband had the fish and chips. he said the fish (coated in what appeared to be cornmeal) was very good. His fries were large steak fries. I tried a couple and found them to be perfectly prepared--crunchy on the outside with a warm, fluffy interior. Our server did not come back to check on us or offer refills. I honestly think this is because she was overwhelmed, and not because she was neglectful. We sat for 15 minutes after finishing our meals. We both visited the restrooms, then approached the bar to see about our check. Our server came up and asked if she could help us. We asked for the check and she looked shocked and said, "Oh! Right away!" The total was just over $20--not bad for everything we got. All in all, a pretty decent place. They need to work on their staffing, or perhaps on the expediting in the kitchen. The chicken alfredo had almost no chicken and what there was was shredded or can like they burned the sub bun that we waited for over 20 minutes for after everyone else had their food. Worst food in the area. Ordered the Yellow Lake Perch Dinner at $13.99 Nope it wasn't perch at all. The fish had absolutely no taste and I know perch because I have it all the time everywhere I go in Michigan. Told them it wasn't perch but they said it was. Asked where they got their perch. Said it came from Gordon Food Service. Called Gordon Food Service and guess what they don't even sell Yellow Lake Perch. The Lodge people lied to me. Now there is a market across US 23 that sells fresh, lake perch and they could buy it there to serve in their restaurant but they don't. So don't order the Yellow Lake Perch or you will be horribly disappointed. It's probably CARP! Enough said. Won't ever go there again. Crummy interior. Old furniture. Not comfortable at all. Heard this place took over hosting the best pizza since Mitch's closed the doors. Big fan of Mitch's so I thought I'd give them a try. Worst. Mistake. Ever. Not only is the service horrible, but the pricing is sub-par to a Turkish Airlines menu. The pizza was supposedly the same as Mitch's having had the ovens and recipes from the original owners. Not true. I've been ordering pizzas for 30 years even having had worked at a couple of pizza joints. In those 30 years, I've never heard of charging anyone for an upcharge to the next size topping pizza with an additional topping when they ask for two halves with two toppings. But apparently that's what they do at The Lodge. If I wouldn't have embarrassed my family, I would have gotten up and walked out sooner. Seriously though, I don't know what place the people ate at that gave them a good review. If I could go lower than 1 star, I would. read more
