Went here for my sister's birthday and overall it's absolutely worth going. The food is a straight 10/10. You cannot go wrong with a single item. Even the simplest dish is dressed and executed beautifully. We ordered across the menu -- steak, fish, vegetarian -- and every plate had someone raving. The kitchen clearly knows what it's doing. Service could've been better. I mentioned it was her birthday and had to remind them about the candle, which slightly took away from the moment. The drinks were fine -- the savory cocktails sound incredible on paper but didn't quite land- 3/5 cocktails were underwhelming and one noted. Desserts were second tier compared to the savory menu. They looked polished, but didn't have the same wow factor as the mains. Also slightly disappointing that nothing was comped for the birthday, though it didn't ruin the night. Cute space, polished vibe -- go early before it gets crowded. Still definitely recommend for the food alone. read more

Reviewing because I think 3.8 is way too low the owner was incredible got us a table for 8 right after the marathon and the food was amazing. The French fries were crispy and salty and the Irish breakfast/ soda bread and butter was mouth watering. Half Marathon Day! Busy day - we maid reservations and waited for our table for three hours since we were there a year ago and it was very pleasant experience. After today I would never want to return-there was no Irish bread. One meal was forgotten, cake was brought in without candle. I've been here multiple times since it opened and my expectations of the place kept descending. I'm glad there's a nice place to sit in the neighborhood and I see they've made some menu changes (thank god the driest, worst, vegan burger I've ever had has been axed). But generally the food veers salty, bland, or honestly missing ingredients that had been there a previous time (I'm looking at you, peas in the chicken pot pie). I cannot recommend any cocktail, which I find lacking in flavor, or even an entree (besides maybe the fish and chips which always seem to come out fine). Fingers crossed they have something else on the new menu that will raise the bar. But keep your expectations at sea level. read more

To eat we had the bangers and mash, fish and chips, soda bread, curried potatoes, and the French onion soup. The bangers and mash were great real savory with the right amount of gravy. This is a very cute new gastropub. We sat at the bar on busy Saturday night. We were able to get a reservation a few hours before. Our bartender / server was great. The drinks were quite good. We tried the prima ballerina, the old fashioned and the skell and bones. They have some great whiskeys in house, specifically some I've only had served to me in Ireland or very upscale bars. Great selection! The food was hit or miss. We really enjoyed the soda bread. Really well baked. I ordered a special which was mussels cooked in cider, herbs, butter with a baguette. My boyfriend had the beef and stout soup. My mussels came WELL before his soup. Like I was finished when his soup arrived. Don't know if mine was meant to be an app and that's why there was a significant delay, or what but that should've been explained by the server if so. The mussels were good not great. There wasn't a ton of flavor to them and the toast was burnt. The stew however was fantastic. Really rich and complex flavor. Small portion sizes though. We also had the apple brandy cake which was a bit dense and dry but had good flavor. We will for sure come back but I think stick to tried and true faves like the stew and fish and chips / the myriad selection of pies that looked great coming out. read more

We came for a family birthday dinner. I had been about a year ago and loved it. This time our experience was generally good, but a few things were a little off. What was good: we all enjoyed the food and cocktails, and the staff was very welcoming when we arrived with seven people (we had made a reservation). On the not-so-good side, our server was friendly but seemed a little lost. Food items, and especially beverages, came out at seemingly random times, and often by different people who worked there. So their timing was a little off. But everything we ordered tasted quite good or very good. The highlights were the wedge salad, the French onion soup, and the soda bread. We had various generations of people in our group, but several of us were bothered by the loud volume of the music. I felt as though they were trying to be a bar and a restaurant at the same time. Several requests to turn the music down went unheeded. Unfortunately that's a good way to kill an otherwise promising restaurant, and also why I'm giving it only three stars. Another issue was that one in our group can't tolerate salt, and when she ordered she had requested that her French fries be unsalted. That request also went unheeded... twice. So they have some kinks to work out. I'm not so sure I would go back. read more

A few things: the menu is limited. Very basic, and mostly heavy dishes. Like - the only fish on the menu is breaded and fried. The food selection is kind of Irish - bangers and mash, fish and chips, colcannon. But really it's got an American bar food vibe. Apparently the cheeseburger was very good. Good fries. Loud dining room. Most of the time I was wishing there was a volume knob to turn down and soften the sound. Nice waitstaff. Disappointed. The corned beef sandwich, though large, was somewhat dry. I asked for the small colcannon listed just above the sandwich on the menu, saying I didn't want the ($14!) side. Server said fine. Colcannon came 5 minutes before the sandwich, getting cold. Then it came again with the sandwich. Though it was barely warm. Check came, charging $14 for the side of colcannon (almost as much for potatoes as for the corned beef). I told the server I had wanted only the one listed by the sandwich ($7). They tell me that that's only for the steak. Could have explained that when I (literally) pointed to the $7. So disappointed. Don't know if I'll go back. Certainly won't order the corned beef or the colcannon. read more

I am so disappointed. I thought this place was really good when I was here in the spring time. On my recent visit, we could not find anything that was better than mediocre. I'm a bit surprised by the five star reviews. Also the fact that some were posted many days before Lonesome Club opened was sketchy. But the interior is cute and appealing and we were tempted. Unfortunately, the food goes from mediocre to bad. The seafood chowder is gummy, more like flour paste with some flavor. Really not good. The fish and chips are a batter sarcophagus for the unfortunate, entombed fish. It's all batter, the fish is an afterthought. Poor fish. The beef stew is watery, like a cliché of English (Irish workhouse?) institutional cooking. The service ranged from fine to absent. Will definitely not be back. Walked by around 4:45PM while the lady and gentleman working setup the outside area. Trying to be polite and not bombard them before opening time. Mind you, we have a baby with us. We sit down at the outside bench at 5:00PM after the girl closes the door. I'm thinking okay great she's grabbing some menus. Instead, another customer walks into the bar immediately gets service and is almost done with his first cocktail and we have still not had anyone come outside to even say hello, let alone a menu. Waited until 5:20 and decided to just give the owner insight to how rude these two employees were as they were on their cellphones the entire time. Usually I never have an issue here with any other server, apparently whoever is on staff today probably needs training since the priority is never to ignore a paying customer to watch videos on your cellphone. read more

Brunch needs work! Aside from the scone, which is delicious, everything else we ordered at our table was disappointing. Corned beef and hash had barely any corned beef and portion and presentation was dismal. Eggs were supposed to come over easy and were not runny at all. We aren't "send things back" people but given the price and small portion wanted to enjoy it. Chef sent it back to us insisting it was over easy! We showed server the eggs were cooked through and then the chef sent us back barely cooked eggs, but we weren't about to get into it so just ate it. No toast or anything special about $16 entree. Fish and chips were salty and plate was covered in just fried pieces of batter-- in the photo that is my plate when no actual fish was left. The fries they have as a side said "hand cut" so expected steak fries but they were just crispy fried shoestring pieces with no taste by FRIED. The food and drinks were great. Came in on a Friday night right before it got crowded. The place looked really nice. Tables in back were full but my wife & I grabbed 2 bar seats. As it got more crowded the owner (or manager?) stayed away from the bar. It quickly got crowded and the only one seemingly entering orders into the computer was the bartender. AND he was making delicious cocktails & taking other orders for the now-full bar. It definitely was a buzz-kill to our really nice meal & drinks to have a front row seat watching the manager come behind the bar and blame everything on the bartender. My wife and I had dinner there last night with 2 friends. The food was good, the staff friendly and attentive. However, the entire time we were there-almost 2 hours-there was music blaring so loudly we could barely hear each other. We requested that they lower the volume 3 times and if they did so, the reduction was barely noticeable. We would not return unless this were addressed. read more

On Saturday, April 26, we had a wedding reception dinner at The Lonesome Club. We live in the neighborhood and wanted our event to be local. Lynn McKee, the owner of this establishment worked with us every step of the way to make this day special and guided us through the process of how to accomplish just that! We were absolutely blown away by the quality of food, attention to detail in decor and the precision of service at our event! We are still getting texts from all who attended specifically referencing the food/service/ambience etc. Everyone was not just happy to be there for us, but, thrilled with the dinner! It is truly an accomplishment for a restaurant and the staff to receive such well deserved accolades by all who attended. I'm really not quite perhaps stating it correctly; what I mean is that in all my years in this business, rarely do people make it a point to thank and comment on food served at a wedding reception. And, yet, The Lonesome Club, led by Ms. McKee and her wonderful staff accomplished that. Really wanted to like this place and I hate leaving bad reviews. I ordered the french onion soup and a beef stew. French onion was VERY wine forward to the point where I didn't finish it despite it being my favorite food on earth. They didn't cook the wine out of it. Beef stew was runny with under cooked potatoes and carrots. But I will say the lumpy mashed potatoes (i could live with this) and the stew broth created a nice bite. For the price I can't say its worth it unfortunately. Staff was great though. read more

Absolutely an awesome addition to our neighborhood. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Their menu is always changing (at least at this date?. We have been there for dinner (with 4 adults and 2 kids) around Thanksgiving. The food was truly lovely and special to share with family. Since then, husband and I have been there about 4 more times (all for lunch/brunch fare). The menu during lunch is abbreviated, yet still wonderful in quality and service. Brunch was surprisingly civil (I.e. most brunch places in Park Slope/Windsor Terrace are a nightmare for anyone without progeny and patience) and yet this restaurant remained a calm oasis even for the brunch uninitiated. Do go and visit them. The food is honest and special. The service is knowledgeable and caring. read more

This is an excellent place for a great meal. The food and service are great and people at the bar seem to be having a good time of it. There are only two things that I grouse about. it is a bit expensive (but it is NY after all). And while the music they play I really enjoy, it is just too darned loud for my old ears. I arrived with a friend on Sunday the 24th at 1:00 pm the service and getting us settled was great. After a short time 4 adults arrived and were seated at the other side of the Resturant Initially they were on the loud side. Shortly later two other adults joined them. The noise got quite loud so much so it was difficult to hear the person I was with. I mentioned the noise to the waitress. She admitted they were loud. There was a table of two women two tables away from us. They caught my partner's eye and communicated that the group was very loud. We didn't even stay for coffee or desert. Extremely impressed! I have been searching Park Slope for the ultimate French Onion Soup, and I think I found it! Much better than Couleur Café (3.5/5) and Olivier Bistro (1/5). I'd give The Lonesome Club's soup 5/5 We had: Chicken Pot Pie: big, delicious, no notes! Beef Stew: Really delicious, but portion size was a little on the small size? Plenty of meant, but could perhaps use some vegetables (maybe carrots and onions) to fill out the portion size. We didn't get a chance to sample enough of the menu to pen a true review but we were impressed with what we tried so going to give them the benefit of the doubt and go with 4 stars. Also, the reboot from old man bar to neighborhood gem is amazing and factors into my stars. The space is beautiful. We had the chicken pot pie and Sheppard pie. Both were flavorful with excellent presentation. I tend to not order Irish grub so hard to compare but I'd like to believe what we ate is authentic representation of the Irish classics. The menu is well balanced offering salads, appetizers, mains and sides. Love the addition of a kids menu. And they have the Champaign of beers. We will be back to dig deeper. read more
