THE SUMMARY: Poor service Filthy Establishment Cold shoulder management I would never come back here even if my life depended on it. Don't even go there to use the bathroom, it's filthy. The food is bad, especially the Mexican food. The guacamole is VERY salty, so much so that you can see the granules of salt. Their refried beans, for which they used navy beans instead of pinto beans (which is what you are supposed to use), were VERY watery. The chips were somewhat stale. We talked to one local afterwards who said she got food poisoning after eating there. Also, I have put down that they are NOT wheelchair accessible as everything is so tightly packed in there, I do not see how anyone in a wheel chair could fit in there or maneuver. Also, the opening from the bar to dinning room area is so small it would be impossible for a wheel chair to fit through there. MY STORY: Went there on vacation with my family. We stopped at Manitou to visit the "Mountain Man - Muzzle Loader Outfitter" store and the Loop was right across the street. Being from California we all said "yay! Mexican food!" For reference, it was during lunch time. We didn't have to wait long to be seated, which ended up being the only good thing about the place. We should have left after being seated when we noticed the state of the floor and walls. They sat us under a big neon sign with a shelf of dead bugs under it. The floor looked like it had not been vacuumed in a long time. After some time a bus boy brought us water (instead of one of the waitresses). An interesting note: all of the visible employees, waitresses and bus boys (there were no male waiters) were under 18. He spilled a lot of ice water down my sister's shirt and drenched her shirt and pants with ice water. She was somewhat surprised and shocked and the bus boy just walked away, never to be seen again. Seconds later a waitress walked up and asked "Are you ready to order?". We explained what just happened and asked if she could bring us some towels so my sister can dry off and get someone to clean the table (which was covered in water and ice) and to sweep the floor (which was also covered in ice). She walked away. Some time later the owner, in a Hawaiian style polo shirt, appears and asks, "What's the problem?" We started to explain to him what happened and he interrupted us and said "I already know all that, what do you want us to do about it?" Once we over came our surprise over that statement, we told him we wanted some towels and for the ice and water on the table and floor to be cleaned up. The waitress took some used and dirty towels and wiped off the chair and table. The owner then took those same towels and handed them to my sister to use for her shirt. She went to the bathroom, which according to her was as messy as the rest of the place and a busboy (different one) came over and swept the floor. As soon as my sister sat down again the waitress reappeared to take our order, we hadn't even had a chance to look at the menu yet. After we gave her our order it took them about 45 minutes to get us our food. While we waited and while we ate it was impossible to get any service. They would not bring us refills of anything. After eating our very poor food, we asked for the bill. We decided not to leave a tip as the food was lousy, the service was terrible, and the premises was filthy. As we left the owner shouted out the door at us, "Hey buddy! Do me a favor and don't come back!" I think it goes with out saying that we never would even if he hadn't said that. read more

I'm not sure why this place has had such difficulties in getting better reviews... Maybe everyone should just start with a margarita... there is no way someone would have a bad experience after drinking one of their margaritas... You may not be able to drive home if you finished one all by yourself, but you'd be happy for a good while. :) We had a group of 30 people and after trying to get reservations for a week at another Mexican restaurant nearby (who wouldn't ever call me back to confirm) I emailed The Loop. They called me the next day when they were open to set it all up. They were super friendly, prompt and accommodating. I would definitely make plans for a group here again. It ended up raining ridiculously, alarms were going off, and people were getting nervous about getting stuck in Manitou... and who could blame them after watching the emergency vehicles drive by left and right... But the staff was still very patient and nice to us all. We ended up having to leave but not until after our margarita glasses were empty. So we left pretty happy. :D I only rated them a 4 star because we didn't actually get to eat any full meals, but rest assured I will be back! read more

I Can't Say How SAD I am to write this review and I can only hope it will help The Loop pull things together. :-( I have been going to and recommending The Loop for more years than I can remember. This was once THE place to go for mexican/southwestern food in the Pikes Peak region and now it seems to have become just a mediocre, over priced tourist trap. The Loop has REALLY gone down hill in both quality of service and quality of food just since the last time I went. This time I brought an out of town friend and we ordered one of their signature dishes, The Molcajete, which is a blend of sauced Chicken, Beef and Pork served sizzling in a lava rock container and FEATURES a piece of grilled Nopal Cactus...or at least it's supposed to. When it came without this key part of the dish we inquired where it was and were told "We Ran Out". While things happen, you would think that whoever is handling the kitchen would ensure that they have all the fixings for one of their Signature, and most expensive, dishes AND one would also expect to be told that they are missing one of those key ingredients AT THE TIME they ordered it. What was even more disappointing was the $12 'House" Margarita (20 ounces) that tasted absolutely DISGUSTING...something my guest confirmed by tasting as well. When I inquired as to why, after receiving a replacement, I was told that the 'House" margarita's are "pre-mixed" and kept in 2 side by side serving containers and it was possible that 1 had either been mixed wrong or 'gone bad'. YOU HAVE GOT to be kidding me! A $12 PRE-MIXED Margarita!?!?!?!? For a restaurant that was once known for having "the best" margarita's in the Pikes Peak Region this is a VERY sad fall into, at best, mediocrity. When you combine this terrible experience with the Ridiculous, New Manitou Springs Paid Parking Policy that charges anyone parking in the downtown area 7 days a week till 8 PM...Seriously???...I will be choosing one of the many better establishments on the eastern corridor of Colorado Springs to take my out of town guests from now on. read more

I found myself in Manitou Springs, enjoying a nice vacation in a place that actually has a winter, when I came across this charming looking place in the down town area. Started things off with a queso for the chips, one that the menu mentioned being spicy. The queso came out, and not completely to my surprise, it just tasted like melted velveeta with absolutely no spice ANYWHERE to be found in the bowl. Decided to keep an open mind, and remained hopeful about the enchiladas. The food came out again, and the plate looked and tasted like it had come straight out of a microwave. I did notice the food truck outside the restaurant before coming in, so I suppose I should've somewhat expected it, but everything seemed pre-made and pre-portioned. The food here is not good, unless you have never experienced what Mexican food actually tastes like, or even Tex-Mex! The server, while nice, was very absent it seemed. We might have been one of the only 3 tables occupied that day also, so I'd say that rules out any excuse of being too overwhelmed by customers and a million other orders. Instead, the servers all seemed to be standing around the bar, and the TV. I would not recommend this place to anyone, instead go to one of the many other places up and down the road! read more

Great thin warm chips, excellent spicy and slightly smoky salsa. The service was fast and courteous. My wife's shrimp fajita was loaded with shrimp and her vegetables tasted soo good with no greasy after taste like you sometime s get. I picked at them, so I can say this with authority ) My enchiladas were great. I noticed no chimichangas were on the menu, except for appetizers. This was the busiest place in the area at 9 PM. I can see why. We are from the Midwest, but would absolutely return here for another meal again, next time around. read more

Visited The Loop while visiting family in Colorado Springs. Manitou is a great place to walk around, with a fun, laid back environment, and I was expecting that environment to extend into the restaurant. Not the case. Once we were seated, we were served chips, salsa and waters by a surly busboy. Our server seemed disinterested with our order, and once our food was served seemed to want us out of there as soon as possible. She brought the check before everyone in our party had finished eating. Food wise, it was generic Mexican, not horrible, but not special, and most certainly over priced for the atmosphere, service, and food quality. This is one of my favorite restaurants. I'd consider it more tex-mex than authentic mexican. Their queso appetiser is really good way to start a meal. Though it will fill you up if you're not sharing it with enough people. Their salsa is made in house and not in bulk so I'll say most of the time I love it. Occasionally they will make a batch that I just don't think turns out as good. A chance I'm willing to take to get fresh salsa. I measure Mexican restaurants based on one dish. Tacos al Carbon. Anyone can put together a decent burrito or standard tacos, but Tacos al Carbon takes some effort to get right. The Loop gets this dish right. The meat is cut and seasoned perfectly. Fresh cut onions and cilantro really bring out the flavor. The Loop is known for it's margaritas too. I don't drink margaritas, but my wife loves them. My wife wanted Mexican food and I knew better being from Texas. But we went and we ordered Queso for an app ant it was good with lots of green chiles. I ordered the T-bone steak fearing the Mexican food . It arrived Luke warm and tasted like lighter fluid. It came with a baked potato that seemed to only be loaded with sour cream. The salad was only some lettuce with croutons. My strip side of my steak was tough but the filet side was smallish but at least it was tender. My wife had a huge margarita and it was tasty. Her burrito was ok. The service was good but the carpet was filthy. The Queso and margarita saved this place from 1 star. read more

We had family in town from North Carolina and wanted them to experience Manitou. Well Manitou itself was amazing as usual but The Loop... We will avoid at all costs. The only thing we enjoyed was the queso which was loaded with chili's. The rellenos were only breading and once you made it through the breading it didn't even have the right kind of chili's, it was made with anaheims instead of poblanos. The beans tasted odd and were a white color, the rice wasn't cooked through. Out of our party of 8, none of us even finished 1/3 of our plates. The inside is dirty and dingy. EEEEK! Me thinks NOT! What happened to The Loop? We stopped in after strolling around Manitou on this beautiful day for a delicious Mexican lunch. Um...YUCK! Filthy, dark and creepy. When the floor and the menu are filthy and disgusting it should be a clue. Unfortunately, we were really trying to be open minded because the Loop is "famous," right?! The place reminded me of a third-world country's attempt at "Mexican." The iced tea was terrible (how is this possible?), the Diet Coke was watered down and the salsa was a watery mess. Chips tasted like microwave warmed from the food service bag. Chicken Loop "Special" was a disgusting mess of spongy, boiled, gross "chicken," I seriously do not think it was chicken. I came here while visiting after a former resident suggested I eat here. I arrived on a Saturday at dinner time. There was a long wait (it might have been an hour) but the bar was open, so I got a seat right away. I ordered the enchilada trio, which had one seafood, cheese and beef enchilada with rice and beans. It came out pretty quickly and was a large portion. It was not terrible, but "meh" is a pretty accurate description of the flavor. It was pretty bland and the seafood did not taste very high quality. The plus side was it was a very large portion, so I took half for another meal. I did not order a margarita, or any other alcoholic beverage for that matter, which might have been my mistake. That seems like at least part of the reason why this place is so highly regarded. The service at the bar was good, so no complaints there. My reviews are highly weighted by the food quality, and I just wasn't too impressed by my meal. A menu re-vamp would really bring this place up -- I did like the atmosphere, too! read more

I noticed a lot of bad reviews based ofn food and service but I guess I got lucky. I had been at the Loop a few times before and during the period of time that I lived in Colorado from 2007 to the end of 2010. I've had their enchiladas in the past and had a good experience and this past time had a not-so-Mexican dish. I tried a fish dish with a mango-coconut sauce, veggies (although they tasted as if they may be frozen, not fresh), and a delicious mashed cauliflower side-dish. I really enjoyed this healthier meal and it was washed down perfectly by a ginormous "skinny" margarita. They also have a decent beer list if you aren't in to tequila. As for the service, I don't remember having a problem in the past, and I had great customer service by the bartender this most recent visit. She was friendly, mixed great drinks, and kept my water glass full. I didn't have any issues but I do see what people mean when they say that it seems that the restaurant is run by the local high school. I did see a lot of very young looking staff but personally I think the Loop is a solid place to eat in Manitou. read more

I keep hearing that Colorado has amazing Mexican food, so I went into The Loop with fairly high expectations. I'm not gonna say I was disappointed, but I probably should have set the bar a little lower. Don't get me wrong - the menu was pretty solid (although put together a little schizophrenically) and there was plenty of selection. The salsa was better than the chips, and the regular margarita was HUGE. I had the tacos al carbon, which were not bad. I've usually had them in hard taco form, but anything with corn tortillas is OK by me. My coworker (of 2 1/2 dessert fame) ordered sopapillas, and they were definitely the best part of the meal. As others have mentioned, the service was excellent. Everyone was really nice, we never sat waiting too long for anything. Otherwise, though, it was pretty much a run of the mill Mexican joint, although in a MUCH prettier setting than I'm used to. read more

One of the best Mexican spots in the Springs. Service is hit or miss but the Margaritas are awesome. (They have really cool margarita glasses and they give them away if they get chipped or cracked. We got 10 awesome glasses last time we were in and most of them has minor not noticeable chips in the base. We don't want anymore or I'd keep my trap shut! Food is awesome. I've tried lots of their dishes and all are legit. My favorite is the chicken olive dish. You'd think olives and mexican food don't mix well but this dish is REDONKULOUSLY delightful. Great drinks. They are huge like your dear fat Aunt Sally's boobs. While not the cheapest place to drink, you will certainly feel the alcohol after one of their large drinks. So I haven't written a review yet, but feel compelled to write about The Loop. I've heard about The Loop for almost a year now, that the food and margaritas were awesome. Tonight, I visited The Loop for the first time. The food was super tasty, and the drinks were beyond delicious. I'm from New York, and have worked as a server and bartender for many years. I've known several excellent mixologists, but I have to say that even in the fanciest and most ridiculously expensive NYC club or bar, the drinks don't rival The Loop's famous margaritas. My date got a Mai Tai -- staple of by-the-water Long Island and NYC bars, yet I've never tasted anything that comes close to his Mai Tai this evening. The far and away best thing about The Loop though, what compelled me to write a review after months of just keeping a Yelp profile, is the service. My date and I were looking for something with a cozy atmosphere and yummy bites to eat. When we entered The Loop, the bar was pretty jumping, and while during a normal night, it would have been perfect, I wanted someplace a little more private this evening. We entered The Loop, and immediately were greeted in a very sweet and friendly manner by the hostesses. After choosing to sit at the bar, Ben the bartender was very intuitive and responsive to our desire to have some privacy. He offered to let us have a booth in the next room -- bring us our food and drinks and let us have a night of coziness, complete with Loop tastiness. My date and I spent the next hour or so with delicious drinks made by Ben, great food made by the people in the kitchen, and excellent service all around. There was another server in the room who made his presence known, in a good way. We were helped by an excellent busboy or possibly another server? Named Justin. I know after waiting tables myself for 17 years that a good busboy and/or backup server is the heart and backbone of a well-run restaurant, and I've had the privilege to work with many excellent ones. Justin acted above and beyond. He and Ben specifically should be noted and commended for extremely sweet, kind, helpful, and personable experience. Additionally, I'm a vegetarian. Even being one, I know how annoying it can be when guests ask a billion questions about ingredients. When I asked about the beans, whether they contained lard, like so many tasty Manitou restaurants, Ben was very quick and helpful with his response. Not only did he assure me that the beans contained no meat, but he went on to explain that The Loop changed the beans so they could make things like the guacamole enchiladas full meals for vegetarians. Later when I asked about the rice, he again was super helpful and sweet about assuring me that there was no chicken stock, et al., in the rice. Things like that mean a lot to me, as both a server and a vegetarian. The latter knows it's easy to bug the former, so when a server doesn't act irritated at questions about basic staples, it's extra impressive. Soup to nuts, so to speak, my date and I had a wonderful night at The Loop. After almost a year of hype, I sort of expected my experience to fall short. Instead, it soared way beyond everything I've ever heard about this wonderful bar and restaurant. Major props to everyone working on Sunday, February 26, 2012. We said in our order, "no cheese & no dairy" for the "veggie selection" the spinach enchiladas & veggie burrito. Both orders came out with cheese covered on top. Second time the burrito came back with cheese inside. Our initial server rolled her eyes as we asked for the second time to have them remade due to dietary reasons. A "manager" came back and insisted that the burrito is not made with cheese..... think again. Extreme cross contamination with Mexican cheese on the tomato slice that came with both orders. There was so sense of sincerity with the mistakes. We were presented with hostility from the "manager". By the time that we ate the enchiladas, the burrito finally came out and we asked for a box for it. We were presented with a check with the full ticket on there. Asked to speak to said manager and was still hostile arguing with us. I ordered sour cream on the side as my girl friend is vegan. We were just sharing both meals. She insisted to tell me that the sour cream is not vegan so we should pay full price. She said she would go talk to her boss & the meal was comped half. Seemed to dramatic for whatever this situation was not. Traveling through, not much of a friendly place. If you're vegan, make sure you know that there is absolutely cross contamination with their food. My girlfriend has been vegan for 5 years and has never strayed away until today. We were in the area on vacation and "The Loop" was highly recommended by the "locals" that we talked to. Since we're from Texas, we know our Tex-Mex. We were duly impressed by the "non-wimpy" hot sauce. The Loop's hot sauce has some real kick! My wife had a taco platter and I had a chile relleno. Both platters were very good. Disclaimer: Let me preface this review by saying that I am from New Mexico and no where does mexican food like New Mexico. The location of the restaurant is in a cool/unique area - a tourist trap as others have mentioned. The service was average - not too fast, not too slow, not too friendly, not rude...just average. The menu has the usual items and some unusual stuff (coconut shrimp, etc.) I had a combination plate with an enchilada and taco. It was very bland, no flavor to the red chili or the meat. The beans and rice were also bland. Chips and salsa were decent - not hot, no real flavor. The weirdest and perhaps most disappointing part of my visit - the Dr. Pepper tasted weird, really weird. Oh wait, the most disappointing part was actually the $18 tab for the combination plate and a Dr. Pepper...way over priced for a very underwhelming meal. read more

The food here is good; nothing extra special. the best thing about this place are the margaritas. when my mom visits from California, I make sure to bring her here so she can enjoy a margarita after a stroll through downtown Manitou Springs. Now, the reason whey I'm finally writing a review - The last couple times we've been here we've been served by Gustavo. well, the receipt says Gustavo, but I didn't catch his name. he's the younger guy with collar-length hair. he is always on top of things! and he goes out of his way to make sure you have everything you need. my mom and step-dad aren't fluent in English and Gustavo is quick to speak Spanish to make them feel comfortable when their English is lacking. this place is conveniently located in town and close to shops and the incline. we've never had a negative experience here. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a yummy margaritas or some fiery chile verde (which I'm too sissy to eat, but that my sister and husband love!)! read more

f*** yelp!! This place was awesome!! A ten top with no call ahead. I had the molcajete (molten lava hot, but super yummy), sister had chimichanga, really good, not skimpy with the guacamole. Rest of the table had arroz con pollo, taco salad, taco al carbon, enchiladas and flautas. Everyone has multiple margaritas. There were at least 15 different ones. I had the black orchid and the merry berry. Service was attentive. Refilled chips and water without asking. I'm sooo tried of all the negative reviews on here. It gives everyone in the food service industry a bad taste in their mouth to see all these petty complainers and blatant disregard for the others. read more

Enjoyed a nice Saturday night dinner at the Loop with some out of town guests! Let me first couch this review by saying that part of the Loop's appeal is the location in cute & quirky Manitou Springs, at the base of Pike's Peak. Therefore, it is a fun place to visit with visitors, large groups, and for fun but low-key celebrations, like birthday drinks. It is not the best or most authentic Mexican or Tex-Mex food in Colorado Springs; however, as I've mentioned in previous reviews, Colorado Springs largely disappoints on the Mexican food front anyway. So, that being said, the Loop does some things right. The chile verde -- always delicious and spot on. It is more of a rojo (red) than a verde (green), but tasty and full of spice. I typically do the bowl rather than the entree with the side of rice and beans, and am plenty satisfied with a side of 2 flour tortillas for dipping. This is one of their specialties, which the Loop does right. My boyfriend has tried an assortment of their entrees; most recently he ordered the molcajete, which was incredible. This beautiful dish of steaming broth and a selection of meat and some vegetables came out in a large molcajete (the stone bowl the dish is named for). Aside from the beautiful presentation, the dish was surprisingly complex in flavor, with layers of spice, savoriness, and some sweetness from the caramelized onions for balance. This dish was a "win" and more memorable than previous entrees. As other reviewers have commented, the salsa is mediocre. However, the above dishes plus a decent Mexican beer selection, yummy margaritas, great location, good service, and fun ambience make for a nice night. read more

Three of us had lunch at The Loop after riding the PIkes Peak Cog Railway. Pretty average, as Mexican fare goes these days, and the service was equally average. The best thing we had was the Nine Layer Dip -- sort of like do-it-yourelf nachos. Our entrees (shrimp fajitas, fish fajitas and crab enchiladas) were OK but the accompanying beans and rice (which is my favorite part of a Mexican meal) were bland. My family and I walked in and requested a table. The hostess quoted us 45 minutes on a Friday night. We were thrilled to bring our family there and waited. I called and checked in maybe 30/40 minutes later to see how our table was coming. I was told another 45 minutes it would be. No worries.... We waited and started to walk back to the restaurant. When I checked back in they told me it would be another 45 minutes and meanwhile they are seating other people around us. We were a big party and I told them in the very beginning we would happily split up. I'm in the restaurant business and never have I experienced anything like this. The Loop was the happening place on Sunday night. We were staying in a local B&B and wanted to have dinner along the main street walking area. The Loop had many people waiting out in front. That is always a good sign in my book. The menu claimed to have the best margarita for several years in a row. It being 80-90 degrees out and not cooling down much at night, this all sounded perfect. I was craving some vegetables so I ordered the veggie fajitas. I asked our server for her recommendation for the the best margarita they offered. She suggested one that was not going to be too sweet. If you are looking for the great atmosphere of Manitou and a restaurant at the base of Pikes Peak, then this place is a great choice. If you are in search of good Tex-Mex, you can find better. If I was basing my review off of the food alone, I would probably only give two stars...the salsa is actually spicy, but as others have mentioned, quite watery and the chips are quite greasy; I don't get the hype about the margaritas, we had the house marg and really all it had going for it was that there was plenty of tequila in it; and for my lunch I ordered spinach quesadillas that had the oiliest spinach ever and that I only ate half of. The additional star for this review is for the wait staff, who was very attentive, polite and nice. The place may not look like much but let me tell you the food was amazing! I had the loaded quesadillas with ground beef and absolutely loved it! Cleaned my whole plate. I went with a group of 6 and everyone loved their meal. Especially the queso appetizer and the margaritas. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We came here after a disastrous attempt at a bar/grill nearby. This is a great place for standard Mexican fare. We had a couple of minor issues with our order but very quickly resolved. Ordered a side of black beans that were excellent. Taquitos (a favorite of mine and my daughters) appetizer was plenty for us to share. These honestly weren't the best I've had but they were good. Salsa was fresh, a tad spicy (I'm a wimp) but tasty! Husband ordered pork carnitas. Not the presentation we are used to (normally chilli like, served in the sauce it's cooked in with beans at the bottom of the bowl) although still good flavor.
