Was not expecting this in CO springs. Usually Mexican food here is well... not actual Mexican food. Let's get into it! Upon walking in we were greeted and seated right away. The first things I noticed was, ample parking, place was very clean, had a nice bar walking in, dining room was big, well taken care of and clean. Now getting into the menu. I got a 3 combination plate. 1 chicken enchilada 1 cheese enchilada 1 chili relleno The chicken was tender and juicy. Seasoned well and not overcooked at all. Tortilla was soft and not hard or overcooked either. Cheese was melted perfectly. Chili relleno was excellent. Not overly soaked in egg badder. Just the right amount. Rice is cooked perfectly. Beans are good. But lack salt ( which is a good thing you can always add more salt you can't remove it ) Other things to mention. They have Menudo, Pozole, caldo and other things like aguchilies. This place is legit and serve up real Mexican food. You will not be disappointed. Will I return? Absolutely. I highly recommend this place is you enjoy good authentic Mexican food. Oh and don't forget to try their house tequila. Liked it so much I ended up buying a whole bottle to go. It's more of an anejo infused with orange. It's very tasty. Don't need to be mixed with anything. Food: far above average. Service: excellent no issues very attentive. Atmosphere: chill and casual. Decor: modern and new. I stayed at the hotel behind the restaurant. From the back, it doesn't look like much. I took the chance to get dinner there and I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed eating here. The restaurant was nicely decorated and clean. The chip and salsa, and refried beans were a step above what you usually get. The burrito was great. I could taste each of the ingredients and they all combined to make a great tasting dish. Service was good. I couldn't complain about a single thing. My experience for my first visit was extraordinary! My server, Gabriel, was kind, polite, and responsive. In fact, the entire staff from bessers to management were wonderful! First, I ordered the Real Margarita. Exquisite! Delicious! Then, I ordered the Camarones Caguameros. Gabriel warned me they were spicy, and they were! However, if you remove the shrimp from the shell, eat the shrimp WITHOUT licking your fingers, then intersperse a piece of the fresh produce slices on your plate ( avocado, red onion, tomato, cucumber, and oranges) it's magnificent! This place, in MY EXPERIENCE, is great and deserves a five star rating! The food I've had has been delicious and filling while the service and decor are wonderful! Today we tried the fajitas (beef & chicken) along with some queso. The queso came out first. Made of white cheese melted with spices and chiles, it was a thin version but SO tasty. We ate it with chips plus poured it on everything. A huge amount of chicken, beef and veggie fajitas arrived on a large, sizzling iron skillet. This was accompanied by a platter of rice, beans, and fajita toppings (cheese, guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, & lettuce) as well as both flour and corn tortillas (homemade!). The fajitas were not the "typical" type of grilled, dry meats, instead being sautéed in a flavorful sauce - delicious!! Other things we like here include: freshly brewed iced tea, huge portions, & very responsive and friendly staff. Now a quick rant: I love to rate great restaurants to let other folks know about them. I try to include what we had to eat and drink, and I ALWAYS give the star rating based on MY experience and the foods I ATE. If another person has the same dish and doesn't enjoy it, then we must have different tastes. Or perhaps the cook is having an off day. If a customer orders items I have not tried, then their experience is their own and they may rate the restaurant differently. In this case, based on the great service here, if I, personally, received food that was improperly heated, I would let the staff know, so they could rectify the problem. If I got sick from food I ate (anywhere), I would probably give the restaurant another try in case the issue was with me or a temporary problem. And if I do t like the food, or have a "meh" experience, I usually will not rate the place based solely on that one visit. Just my 2 cents and opinion. read more

A warm welcome, crispy tortilla chips with sides of fresh chunky salsa and creamy bean dip, and a huge menu greeted us for our first visit to this hidden gem. We came because a stranger in line at a store overheard us talking about visiting another Mexican restaurant in town and asked us if he could make a different recommendation. "Go to Mexico Real," he said, "off Garden of the Gods; and order the Shrimp Poblano, my wife's favorite. She never changes her order. It's delicious!" We didn't go that day, but did today. And I did order what the menu lists as Camarones Poblano. Our server Gabriel clearly agreed it was a great choice. My husband knew he'd be sharing my dish, so he ordered just a bowl of Sopa de Chili Verde. We came home with leftovers. My platter of gently cooked shrimp shared a silky green sauce with ribbons of fresh poblano chili peppers, small spears of onion and fresh mushroom slices. The dish was huge and paired with Mexican rice, creamy refried beans and a sprinkling of diced mango and shreds of lettuce. It was deliciously full flavored, creamy and satisfying, but without spicy heat. My husband's green chili was a large bowl of chunks of tender stewed pork in a delicious broth. The servings were large and very shareable. Finally, with Gabriel's encouragement, we ordered a flan for dessert. It was large, beautifully plated, deeply rich, and came with lots of well caramelized sugary syrup as expected. Delicious! Thank you Gabriel for our lovely meal and thank you to a Colorado Springs stranger for a great recommendation! I want to start off by saying the manager tried to fix and was very nice, nevertheless the food was over cooked and pork was extremely tough a knife could not cut though on the cochintos plate. We waited a hour for queso fundido appetizer. Waited for 30 minutes for hour drinks. Plate that was supposed to be served with tortillas they never came until after we ate out good. The fundido was served without chips and waited 25 minutes after to receive. First time visiting and will be the last. It seems like most people come here for alcohol. Maybe that good. read more

Had lunch there today. It was such a nice day, we sat on the patio. They opened it just for us! Service was impeccable. Couldn't ask for better. I loved Mexican food, my favorite cuisine. And, I'm an Old Guy; I've eaten a lot of it, in a lot of places. Wife and I split the pollo asada burrito. The chicken was delicious. And it contained a variety of vegetable - carrots, mushrooms, cauliflower, and zucchini! I never had that in a chicken burrito. It was really delicious. The green sauce was flavorful, aromatic, mildly spiced, and really yummy. It was a huge portion, too. Really glad we split it between the two of us. Flan for desert. Wow. Almost like a cheesecake texture, less like pudding. You must try this. I can't wait to go back and try some other dishes. :) read more

We were eager to try this place after a news writeup about the new opening. We got there on a Wednesday afternoon, and the temperature was about 90° outside. We noted a sitting patio on the west side of the business. The only problem with that patio is that it faces I -25, and there is road construction going on the new exit ramp at the same time, and was very noisy. The interior temperature was a little cold due to air conditioning. Authentic Mexican music was playing, but WAY too loud (70 decibels). Inside, we were greeted promptly in a very clean and modern business. We were seated in a booth, and attended to, meticulously. Complimentary homemade, thick chips were presented, along with a wonderful red salsa and refried beans. The menu was huge. I ordered camarones poblano, which was accompanied by a large quantity of rice and frijoles. The plate was huge. The dish was very creative, with a great quantity of large shrimp, accompanied by a complex, delicious sauce of grilled onions, mushrooms, strips of poblano, and probably very small pieces of mango, cucurbitas and zucchini. An award winning dish. The place was very clean with beautiful floors, and simple burned pine chairs with new finish on them. Drink specials were $ off on draft beers, and a $5.75 house margarita. The beer was cold, and very refreshing on a hot day. My companion had chile rellenos which was ordered crispy, and was wrapped deep fried in phyllo sheets. It was also accompanied by rice and refried beans. Fernando was our server, and although he was busy with other duties, he attended to us very nicely. We'll be back! read more

What's not to love about this place we went to the newest location at Sinton Rd and while walking in noticed the wonderful outdoor patio and continued inside to a fabulous interior design and friendly greeters we immediately received the complimentary chips and salsa the chips were thin crispy and hot and came with delicious refried beans too. I ordered the Chile Rellenos and my son ordered the Crispy Taco and Enchilada plate both filled with shredded beef I got a taste of his and found the filling to be flavorful and tender unfortunately we ate too much for their great array of desserts but we will be back for sure. read more

Meals took awhile to come out and the restaurant was not busy. The flour tortillas for the burrito was dry and stale. Plate was hot but the burrito, beans and rice were barely warm. Burrito and rice were not flavorful. Too scared to try the refried beans as they were runny/soupy. Only positive was the waitresses were very friendly. We reluctantly tried Mexico Real a couple of months ago and have already been been back several times. The thing is Mexican food here in Colorado has been so disappointing! HOWEVER... Mexico Real is great! It's mainly Sonoran style like we grew up on in Phoenix. The service is truly top notch and we love that it is family owned and operated. The salsa, guacamole, and bean dip are as all amazing and I highly recommend the cheese crispy to start with. We have enjoyed everything we've ordered!! The restaurant has really cool decor and it is impeccably clean. I day dream about this place!! I'll be back VERY soon! read more

There was another couple in the restaurant, so it wasn't busy the afternoon I went. The chips were excellent. The beans and salsa were extremely watery and not tasty. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and requested corn tortillas instead of the flour tortillas shown on the menu. Cheese enchiladas should never be made with flour tortillas. The dish was served with flour tortillas. Couldn't the chef read the one thing that had been requested? The cheese used inside the tortilla was not good. It needs to be a combination of cheeses: a sharp cheddar inside the corn tortilla, with another type of cheese melted on top. I would give that dish a D-. I ordered the flan for dessert. It arrived with a massive swath of whipped cream on top. The flan was horribly dry, and there was no caramel sauce. I told the waiter it was a total failure. He offered to replace it and said he didn't know how it was cooked without caramel sauce. He brought out the replacement, and it had a mere 1/2 tsp of caramel sauce drizzled on top. This was not flan. It was egg custard cooked on its own and very dry--total failure on my meal from start to finish. The waiter was very accommodating. I left him a nice tip. The kitchen needs to start over. This was a terrible excuse for Mexican food. read more

Ok I think I'm gonna give up looking at reviews I mean what's going here, and all over yelp? 5stars??? Where and what do you eat? The chips thick, old and not crispy or flavorful, the salsa was thin and soupy, the beans tasteless. Great start 5 stars. The burrito was cold in the inside and the plate was fire hot???huh?? The chicken inside was diced to small and flavorless the rice was needing any seasoning at all, the burrito was covered in a tangy sauce and not a good tangy but the lettuce had that shredded lettuce in a bag flavor, you know old lettuce that's been treated taste. Ugh! 5stars??? The margarita had no alcohol and was served in a two handed fish bowl? The staff, wow super nice and friendly. But they have to be cause they eat that food and know. The shredded cheese inside my burrito wasn't even melted at all, cold. So did I go to a 5star local an get the only bad plate they have made ???? I doubt that cause my wife's was worse.
