    Mocha Cake

My experience for my first visit was extraordinary! My server, Gabriel, was kind, polite, and responsive. In fact, the entire staff from bessers to management were wonderful! First, I ordered the Real Margarita. Exquisite! Delicious! Then, I ordered the Camarones Caguameros. Gabriel warned me they were spicy, and they were! However, if you remove the shrimp from the shell, eat the shrimp WITHOUT licking your fingers, then intersperse a piece of the fresh produce slices on your plate ( avocado, red onion, tomato, cucumber, and oranges) it's magnificent! Finally, I ordered the Mocha Cake. Soooo light! Marvelous trio of tres leche, coffee, and chocolate! I will most definitely be back!

This place, in MY EXPERIENCE, is great and deserves a five star rating! The food I've had has been delicious and filling while the service and decor are wonderful! Today we tried the fajitas (beef & chicken) along with some queso. The queso came out first. Made of white cheese melted with spices and chiles, it was a thin version but SO tasty. We ate it with chips plus poured it on everything. A huge amount of chicken, beef and veggie fajitas arrived on a large, sizzling iron skillet. This was accompanied by a platter of rice, beans, and fajita toppings (cheese, guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, & lettuce) as well as both flour and corn tortillas (homemade!). The fajitas were not the "typical" type of grilled, dry meats, instead being sautéed in a flavorful sauce - delicious!! Other things we like here include: freshly brewed iced tea, huge portions, & very responsive and friendly staff. Now a quick rant: I love to rate great restaurants to let other folks know about them. I try to include what we had to eat and drink, and I ALWAYS give the star rating based on MY experience and the foods I ATE. If another person has the same dish and doesn't enjoy it, then we must have different tastes. Or perhaps the cook is having an off day. If a customer orders items I have not tried, then their experience is their own and they may rate the restaurant differently. In this case, based on the great service here, if I, personally, received food that was improperly heated, I would let the staff know, so they could rectify the problem. If I got sick from food I ate (anywhere), I would probably give the restaurant another try in case the issue was with me or a temporary problem. And if I do t like the food, or have a "meh" experience, I usually will not rate the place based solely on that one visit. Just my 2 cents and opinion.

    Flan at Mexico Real Restaurant

A warm welcome, crispy tortilla chips with sides of fresh chunky salsa and creamy bean dip, and a huge menu greeted us for our first visit to this hidden gem. We came because a stranger in line at a store overheard us talking about visiting another Mexican restaurant in town and asked us if he could make a different recommendation. "Go to Mexico Real," he said, "off Garden of the Gods; and order the Shrimp Poblano, my wife's favorite. She never changes her order. It's delicious!" We didn't go that day, but did today. And I did order what the menu lists as Camarones Poblano. Our server Gabriel clearly agreed it was a great choice. My husband knew he'd be sharing my dish, so he ordered just a bowl of Sopa de Chili Verde. We came home with leftovers. My platter of gently cooked shrimp shared a silky green sauce with ribbons of fresh poblano chili peppers, small spears of onion and fresh mushroom slices. The dish was huge and paired with Mexican rice, creamy refried beans and a sprinkling of diced mango and shreds of lettuce. It was deliciously full flavored, creamy and satisfying, but without spicy heat. My husband's green chili was a large bowl of chunks of tender stewed pork in a delicious broth. The servings were large and very shareable. Finally, with Gabriel's encouragement, we ordered a flan for dessert. It was large, beautifully plated, deeply rich, and came with lots of well caramelized sugary syrup as expected. Delicious! Thank you Gabriel for our lovely meal and thank you to a Colorado Springs stranger for a great recommendation! We look forward to our return visit to Mexico Real next time we're in the Springs.

I want to start off by saying the manager tried to fix and was very nice, nevertheless the food was over cooked and pork was extremely tough a knife could not cut though on the cochintos plate. We waited a hour for queso fundido appetizer. Waited for 30 minutes for hour drinks. Plate that was supposed to be served with tortillas they never came until after we ate out good. The fundido was served without chips and waited 25 minutes after to receive. First time visiting and will be the last. It seems like most people come here for alcohol. Maybe that good.

The view house welcomed us with open arms. As I stated initially in this review, the food and the ambience are amazing, but what really made the experience testimonial worthy was, Vincent, our waiter/server. Dude rolled in with a small notepad, a smile, calm demeanor, and took every order, every drink, every appetizer, and even dealt with all these freaking knucklehead kids. I woke up and said the exact thing to My Wife yesterday. So, Vincent, hats off to you and everybody there. To the people behind-the-scenes making the food, THANK YOU! PS. Not a mistake was made. Not a forgotten sauce, no one was missing cutlery. Nothing. Thanks again.

The view house has such a reputation for being a nice place to have lunch and enjoy. My family went…read morehere to celebrate a birthday and I was so sorely disappointed with Viewhouse in Colorado Springs. The location is great from downtown Denver to Colorado Springs. The specific location in Colorado Springs on Campus Drive was really a disappointment for a Viewhouse spot; not only was my food ice cold but the rest of my family's entrées did not have any seasoning. My child didn't even want to eat the pizza! How could you fuck up pizza? (I don't want to forget to mention that most of this food looks and tasted like it was constructed from commercial Cisco food products, when eating at a nice place like this and paying a premium for each dish/appetizer. Why the hell aren't you using better ingredients?) When a seven-year-old is asking to pass the pepper and salt for pizza and still not eating you know it's wrong. The school pizza I had in elementary school blows the pizza I tasted from my child's dish that day out of the water. My father had specific dietary request and the kitchen totally ignored that. Sometimes it happens and the server forgets to bring culturey and napkins, but oh my gosh, it was a wait. Imagine eating chips and guac right off the bat and not having anything to wipe your hands on, and then that continued throughout the whole meal. It was quite busy that day, a saturday. I looked around like maybe everybody was being too nice to even mention because they too were just as flabbergasted. This food is off and my family and I had gotten a whole array of different dishes besides appetizers, the fries were not fresh and gross. Not even ketchup could mend the disappointment. We were so hungry, we had drinks and ate what we could manage.. We still paid our bill like decent people and will never come back to any Viewhouse ever again. Two of us had gotten ill from the lunch and we just didn't even have the _____ to call and speak with the manager or anyone the day after, and the disappointment lingered for a few days after. Its was so bad like one of those situations where you don't even care to ask for a refund, just never go back...

The fried cheese is very different from your other standard cheeses or mozzarella sticks. The cheese is much more firm with a light fry. The cup of bacon is fatty, salty, with a tiny bit of sweetness. The ricotta gnocchi bolognese has some amazing fresh gnocchi. The bolognese sauce was okay so it's a fine dish but I probably wouldn't get it again. The duck poutine has delicious fresh fries that end up crisp topped with tons of cheese and gravy. Not a lot of duck, but a great poutine overall. Every item is always a treat and unique and makes me want to try the whole menu.

I went solo and decided to sit at the bar where they had three bartenders that would rotate with all the customers making it very efficient and great coverage. The food was very inventive; not your typical fare even for a bistro. I started with the lobster tater tots that were served with ranch. He had the perfect amount of seafood flavor and a super crispy outer; I would recommend. Next, I had the ginger pork and crispy rice dish. This had a large helping of pork that did well with the Asian flavors and that crispy rice for texture; I would recommend. My final was the miso butterscotch tart. You can't go wrong with a dessert that has butterscotch, Biscoff, marshmallow and miso. The only criticism I could make was that the tart was pretty loose, but that did not take away from the flavor. To drink this place has lots of beer taps, a good selection of wine and plenty of interesting cocktails. I chose to have a couple beers and they were both very tasty. I would like to come back with additional people so that we could try more of the menu items. Unfortunately, it is an hour away from where I live, but the next time I find myself down in the springs, I will return.

Steak bites, truffle fries, brownie skillet... I want to come back just to try more food alone. This was insane and the pricing was good, the value was good, and I even ordered truffle fries to go because I loved it so much! What is super fun is that they now have wine tastings on Tuesdays and it is a great deal. $12 for four wines. Someone tells you about each wine and it's a great way to sample a bunch of wines, both local and not. I was super excited about that! I will again, come back to do that! Lots of positives there. And our server was very sweet. She was checking in and making sure we were doing well. I wish I knew her name but sadly I don't. But she was so kind and had a great personality. And everything came out fast! The vibes are also good. I love the outdoor seating/patio options for a hot summer night. And it was very lush. It's funny because I had never heard of this place before but it is in a fantastic area near Night Ramen and Provision Bakery (two amazing spots). Breakfast at Provision, apps and drinks at My Cellar Wine Bar, and maybe a dinner at Night Ramen. Haha! Just kidding, but again, great spot. Here's where I have issues. I worked in the restaurant industry for six years. I understand staying over close and even coming in close to close is a no no (at least for me). But we arrived at 7:30 pm and stayed until 9:45 pm. One of my best friends is getting married so she wanted to show us her dress and share her excitement. At 9 pm (note they close at 10 pm), they turned on the lights, began sweeping, closed the kitchen, and even at one point blasted music. We asked the waitress when they closed the wine bar. 10 pm. But what frustrated me the most is that the manager (I assume) came over and was acting extremely condescending. "I know you girls are having such a good time!!" And was trying to usher us out. Girl. You don't close until 10 pm. It's 9:45. If you didn't want us to stay, then maybe change the hours. I don't care if we are the only ones there. It was extremely rude and the way she said it felt, as I said, condescending. Like we were young and dumb or something. As a diner, I expect great service. Which we got for the most part. But to kick us out before it closes is unprofessional and frustrating. Of course we left, but god forbid a girl get excited about her wedding and wants to share all about it. This left a sour taste in my mouth and again, if you wanted to close early, maybe don't tell patrons the actual time you close: 10 pm. We bought a lot and a bottle of wine. Let us finish our glasses and I promise we will leave before close. I would still come back, but maybe I'll go to Vine and Wheel or another wine bar first.
