My friends and I came here since it was in the manitou springs town . We were seated right away and our service was good. The food we order was more of a Tex mex diner. I consider my partner and myself good food critics, especially Mexican cuisine. Hands down, it was one of the worst food & service experiences we have had in a long time. I got their mahi-mahi fish tacos, server highly recommended by the server. It tasted like a block of salt. The Spanish red rice was horrible. I've been here on a couple occasions and I've liked the food and Margaritas both times. The food is good, good service and a lot of different tequilas, margaritas and other drinks. I had one of the burritos from the special menu, something I wouldn't normally order, but it was so good! It's called the California burrito! I was craving chips n queso dip so decided to stop in... VERY DISAPPOINTED!! First off salsa was extremely SPICY! We're from Louisiana and can handle spicy food but even my husband couldn't eat it, had no flavor just waaay too spicy. When my queso came out the waiter noticed a hair in it as he set it on table,took it and returned with (I hope) a fresh bowl. We then waited way too long for my husbands quesadilla which was on the "appetizer" menu even asking waiter to please check on it. I had already finished my margarita and my queso dip n chips by the time it was brought out. My husband took few bites and told me it was the worse chicken quesadilla he's ever had, it tasted like the chicken was made with Campbell's tomato soup. Not only tasted nasty it had very little chicken on the tortilla. He did not finish it. On top of all this the bill was ridiculously high. Was looking for a place to dine in for dinner so we ran across this place. It was super close to our hotel, and it wasn't crowded at all. Seating and table were clean, the waitress was very nice, constantly checked on us and made sure we were taken care of. Yummy yummy yummy. We visited on a Friday afternoon after riding the cog railway. We were seated right away. At first glance the place might look a little run down to some but don't let that discourage you from the tasty food. Our waitress and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming which is always appreciated and adds to the experience. You're started off with water & chips and salsa. Good flavor and wasn't too spicy or not spicy enough. We ordered the molcajete and shrimp cocktail. And let meeee tell you.. this was hands down one of the best if not THE best molcajete I've ever tasted. It came out boiling hot, literally. Enough for 2, husband & I finished almost the whole thing. Flavor, temperature, meats & cheese were perfect. And you also get a million tortillas with your order. Who doesn't love that?! The shrimp cocktail was good but not the best I've had. Although, I will say that the shrimp were very decent sized and they def don't skimp out on that. We don't drink alcoholic beverages so can't comment on that but based on everyone else's reactions to their drinks I think they were very pleased lol I also wish they offered some aguas frescas like horchata but maybe they just didn't have any at the moment. Fair price. I guess to some ppl a little higher than usual but you're in a unique town close to popular tourist attractions and the portions served are VERY decent. They have multiple awards on the walls for best margaritas, sadly we didn't try any. I had a michelada and my boyfriend had a Mexican mule, both good. We shared the Molcajete. Steak, chicken, cheese, and cactus in a super hot stone bowl. Tortillas on the side. The sauce was spicy, perfect on a cool Colorado day. It came with a side salad, which was a little strange for a Mexican place. The only thing I didn't like was the cleanliness of the restaurant. The floors still had old grubby carpet, and the walls looked like they haven't been washed in a while. The back bar by the bathrooms was more like a storage place. I'm from Texas, so my view may be skewed, but if you advertise award-winning margaritas, you best bring it. Their house margarita tastes like ice with a little lime. No other flavors to it whatsoever. And a large is almost $14. So not worth the splurge. Food was okay. Not authentic (neither Mexican or Southwest) and lacking flavor in the beans especially. They were really white for some reason. I had the street enchiladas because they sounded different. They were okay. Could have been supplemented with salt and some pico. Chips and salsa are decent. They charge after one basket. Not like home! They always say don't do Mexican food north of Dallas, and they are right. Go somewhere else if you've had legit Mexican food. In truth, this is probably more of a 4-star review but I really think this place is highly underrated on Yelp, and I'm trying to do my part to fix this injustice. First, one must set one's expectations appropriately. This is solid tex-mex in a Colorado mountain town. If you judge it against tex-mex offerings in other Colorado mountain towns, their food is very very good. If you judge them against tex-mex in Texas, well, this isn't Texas. That's just not reasonable and fair. I've enjoyed their enchiladas and fajitas. My wife loves their tacos el carbon. The chips and salsa are "serviceable" which is to say when judged appropriately for the food-culture setting in which they are placed, it is great. Finally, the margaritas are top notch. Excellent by any standard. There's a reason they have repeatedly been judged "Best Margarita" in the area by the local paper. Try this place out. You won't be disappointed, just remember this is Colorado and you get to enjoy a great meal. Then, step out on the street in the cool of a beautiful summer evening and appreciate the fact that you don't have to race to some air conditioned space like you'd have to do if you were in San Antonio, Houston or Dallas. read more

We stopped by here at 7pm on a Saturday evening. There was a little rush going on soon after we got there. So the man (Larcardo) who brought out our chips and salsa went ahead and got us our drinks to help out the server. The server (Everado) was visually pissed off about it and was mean to the other guy trying to help him. I understand there are certain responsibilities they each have but when he helps you, you don't get pissy. You can be professional about it. Our food was okay. The chicken on my nachos were a little burnt and very dry with no flavor. My buddy got the carne asada that was served as a whole steak which isn't a big deal but it didn't come with tortillas or a steak knife to cut it. The bill came out to be $50 which I thought was pretty high for what we got. We eat at different Mexican restaurants in the area all the time and the bill is normally around $40. The sever didn't come to check on us at all once we got our food. Our tea was empty but Lacardo kept our waters full and made sure we were taken care of. We made sure to tip him instead. The waiter should have to switch roles with the bust boy and the restaurant would be better off. Only reason it got 2 stars is because of the excellent respectful service from Lacardo. read more

Used to be a really good restaurant, and then today happened. Ordered a Crab and Shrimp enchilada. IT HAD IMITATION CRAB INSIDE?!?! It was so bad that I almost forgot that the shrimp was non existent. Lets top it off with the shitty service, and the fact they had to balls to still charge us for their fake ass crab.
