The first time we came here was for a 'Beer for Boobs' event raising money for a team doing the 3-day breast cancer walk. For $10 you got an etched pint glass and 2 fill-ups. I just started drinking beer recently and am still figuring out what I like. The first one I tried didn't really suit me. Hubby liked it well enough though, I think it was Red Barn. The other I tried was the Lost and Found and it was much more my style. I like the dark, somewhat sour beers. We've been back several times and always have great beer and a great time. The bar is somewhat small but there are kegs around to sit on. Usually they have a BBQ with hot dogs for sale. They had a Halloween event where you could carve a pumpkin while you enjoyed your brew. They also brew some of Port Brewing Co recipes here, I haven't tried those though as they tend to be too hoppy for me. Their bottle artwork is amazing and you can be on their brewery cam if you sit in the middle of the bar. read more

Went here on a Sunday afternoon expecting great Belgian style beer. The first sign of trouble was a bus in the parking the lot that said San Diego brewery Tours on it. Before we even got to the front there was a lot noise. The place was packed with very loud aggressive drunks. I asked the bartender what they had that was like a Belgian Trippel and he told me they didn't have a Trippel and closest thing was a quad so I got a taster. It was extremely sweet tasting and not what I considered good belgian beer. So we decided to try the Port Pilz and it was ok. After that I tried a German brown lager that had very little taste. I was going to try the belgian blonde but with the crowd it was too hard to even order so we left. Is seems this place like to experiment with strange ingredients and they use raisins in a lot of their beers. Its a weird twist which frankly doesn't work too well. read more

Short and sweet : the beer is great ! walked in and it was a little busy , person behind bar was courteous and explained all the beers , we ordered about 12 tasters and not 1 beer was not good , all great ! This place is great. Not only can you come get your drinky drank on...cus the beers pack a punch...BUT you can also come and enjoy really great beer! They have tons of stuff on tap including Port Brewing beers. Cant be the 1 dollar samples! Food trucks are always parked out front. Over all the atmosphere is fun and inviting...it tends to be pretty busy on Friday nights! My only complaint is sometimes I wish they had chairs! read more

Some of the most unique and brilliant beers in the US, though certainly not to everyone's taste. Tomme certainly pushes the envelope, sometimes in ways that even I don't really care for (I hate sours for instance). And he has managed to brew a few beers that are too hoppy even for me. (I didn't think that was even theoretically possible). On the good side, you will taste things done with beer that you will never taste anywhere else. On the downside, this place has become a total zoo (massively crowded) to the point that it can be challenging to get served. Long gone are the days when you could chat with the staff about the beer and anything else. read more

Lost Abbey's "Old Viscosity" is my favorite beer on earth. When I say that, I mean it, and I have been to 37 countries and territories. Also, the staff is great from the servers to the security man at the door. I recently brought a friend to the Abbey who cannot deal with prolonged standing due to a medical condition. Big "I" had the door that night and he extended my friend every courtesy; making her first night out, in months, a pleasant experience. read more

The Lost Abbey is one of the very few reasons I go to North County. The place itself is very cute with lots of interesting beers. Of course, Red Poppy is the absolute favorite! Why not 5 stars you may ask? Two reasons... - The bouncers (or guys at the entrance... not sure what to call them) need to work on their attitude. Many of us came here back in the day when there was nobody carding at the "entrance", and we're used to just walk in... no need to get grumpy by our confusion! - This story: Red poppy comes in a bottle, but they give you this super cute glass to use. My first time here, I really wanted to buy that glass, so I asked the bartender if I could buy it... I really didn't mind that it was used... she said she couldn't sell me a used one, but to go to the souvenir area which is 5 footsteps to my left haha. Once I was there, I saw 3 of these glasses on display, I told one of the guys that I wanted to buy one of them. He said they didn't have any left... wtf?? My friend and I were like "uuh... there are THREE right there" and he said he couldn't sell me those because there were for display. So, after trying every possible legal way, I was forced to do something I didn't want to do ...which I will not write here. Anyyyyyyyyways, Lost Abbey- lucky for you I LOVE your beer ... yes, FIVE stars-love, and I will still be coming back ...even if you're not too nice sometimes. read more

This was second stop on a brewery crawl. Nice chill vibe. Friendly atmosphere. Attentive and helpful staff. I tried the Devotion, a Belgian Blonde Ale. The Lost Abbey - Breweries Near Me - Vista, California

Stopped by for a pint with my father in law while he was in town from Wisconsin this past weekend. He is a big beer fan and loves the scene out here. Took him here to try out a couple. We came here because Lost Abbey hosted a charity food truck event with proceeds donated to the local Meals-on-Wheels. +1 star just for being cool people, way to go. The beers were amazing. There is a huge variety here, so even if you are not a fan of Belgians, they have delicious IPAs, stouts, and lighter ales. The atmosphere is really cool as well - think warehouse meets mission meets barn. With beer! It was super crowded in here, which is a downside. If you want to sample craft beer in San Diego, definitely put Lost Abbey on your must-drink list! read more

I had the best beer experience in quite some time finally making it here to Port/Lost Abbey... I love all kinds of beer and they craft everything very well. The highlight was "Madonna and Child," a margarita-inspired sour, aged in tequila barrels with lime and salt... I can't imagine skipping this place if I'm anywhere near North County San Diego. Great for tastings and group events, The Lost Abbey/Port Brewing Co. has some of the best craft beers in California. In between decadent sips of my Port Older Viscosity, I managed to sneak a tasting of The Lost Abbey's 2009 Angels Share (Brandy) and Cuve de Tomme on tap. (I only went here for the rare stuff, nothing I could find at BevMo or Lone Hill!, so I tried the best on tap!) The 2009 Angels Share is sweet and flavorful, but maybe a little too alcohol-tasting for me. The Cuve de Tomme is a sour and god knows I want to like sours, I appreciate the art, but I haven't worked my way up to those yet! You could probably find better reviews of these beers on beer-rating websites, but the point of my review is that The Lost Abbey has incredible beers on tap and when released, you should make a point to come down and have a tasting. It is definitely worth the drive, if you're from out of town, to come and taste something you'll never find at the liquor store. I can't wait to visit more and try some more of their special brew projects! SIDENOTE: Bring cash, as the tastings are pay as you go. I got half way through my review and just deleted the whole thing. I was originally giving the Abbey a 3 star rating but guilt washed over me and I had to bump it up a star. I mean I do have a bottle of Duck Duck in my room calling to me right now so that's a star right there. Anyway, I came here while I was on vacation to San Diego with some friends of ours. We got lucky and our trip turned out to be smack dab in the middle of San Diego Beer Week. Also, we got to go to a special barrel event at the Lost Abbey. For the price of a ticket (I think it was 75 but don't quote me on that because I didn't pay) you get to drink anything on tap, plus they opened up some crazy rare stuff, PLUS everyone got a free bottle of Veritas 8. Sounds great right? Sounds like a 5 star experience right. Well, I wasn't wowed by any of the rare stuff that they broke out. Everything seemed a little off to me. Also, the food that was served was not too good. I was really saddened by the whole thing. So, why did I give them 4 stars instead of my original 3? I had a great time even though the beers were not the best ever. We met a lot of really cool people that night and, like I said before, the Duck Duck Gooze! How can I hate on the brewery that makes such an awesome beer? read more

Came here on a Friday night. It was a little crowded but not too busy. I was able to walk right up to the bar and get a beer right away. This is my first time coming here and they have a lot of good beers on tap. I was able to try track #8 which is a bourbon barrel beer and it was extremely tasty. Their Red Barn ale is very good as well! I think my favorite beer was the Angel Share and Angel Share Grand Cru. The Angel Share is a bourbon barrel aged ale that is very good. The new fab seems to be barrel aged beers. Some of them are really good and some just lack luster. Lost Abbey knocked it out of the park with this one! read more

We stopped in after visiting Stone Brewing. We are in San Diego trying different breweries/ restaurant's and brewpubs on vacation. Have tried at least 12. We wanted to love this place. We ordered 4 samplers. Didn't get a lot of info or any interest about the questions we asked. During the hour at the bar we were there, no one ever came back to ask if we liked them and we had to ask for the check. I don't get it. It wasn't crowded. We're just beer geeks in to check out the scene. Great beer- non existent service. read more

Just visited one of my favorite brewery's a few days ago. I haven't been there for a couple years. What a big change in the brewery. All the barrels were somewhere else. What a shame. This place is so much fun! The atmosphere is great- you sit in a brewing warehouse at a bar top on a man made chair consisting of an empty keg leveled with a bag of yeast. The people here are laid back and just looking to enjoy some good ol' craft brew and have a great time. What's not to love? The bartenders here are casual and you get to try some good beer for great prices. It was my first time here so I decided to try samples of their beer. The samples are 3 oz pours for a dollar each. 30+ beer tastings within a fairly close drive to the OC... Yep :) Lost Abbey was one of my favorite, but be warned they do specialize in Belgian Style Ales. SO if you're not into those beers, guess what... Come here anyway because 2 breweries are connect here and they also have all the hopped-up loving you need in the form of those big West Coast IPAs! If I lived locally, this would be my bar hangout of choice. The feeling is casual and comfortable and I love how it feels like a bar inside of a brewery... oh wait, because it kind of is. When we first walked in, I was a little overwhelmed. There was a tour van in the parking lot and I felt a little bit like I had arrived at a frat party. Once I was able to wade my way through the overly tanned group of blonde guys in loafers, it was time to taste! Yelp reviews do not lie. The beer and the experience are great. $1 tastings? You can't go wrong! I also love the array of flavors listed on the giant blackboard hanging overhead... I wanted to get through so many tastes... but my stupid low tolerance and full-from-lunch tummy limited me to three. My favorite being the Mo Betta Bretta. Light, fruity, and delicious. The serving staff was pretty busy keeping everyone's glass full - but they were quite friendly and prompt. I'd like to find an "off" time so I can ask more questions, get recommendations, etc. The layout is pretty cool. Yes, it is in an industrial park and just inside the rolling door is a room full of barrels, the tasting bar, and giant tanks full of tasty beer. I had not seen anything like it before and rather enjoyed it. Definitely different. I cannot comment on the bathroom situation, but my overall experience was quite pleasant. Next time I am back in the area - I will avoid a large lunch and bring a bigger appetite for beer. There are plenty of draft and bottled brews that caught my eye and I can't wait to get back and try them. read more

I have had many Lost Abbey beers in my life but I had never made it down to the brewery itself. I am not a big fan of having beers I can buy at my local store, on tap at the brewery which is why I never made it down here. I bought Duck Duck Gooze so I had no choice to visit the brewery to pick it up and I thought they did a great job organizing the pick ups. They had a few special bottles for onsite consumption as well as a couple special draft selections. The staff was awesome and super friendly. The only thing that disappointed me was the fact that by the 2nd session on day 2 they had already run out of almost all sizes of the special Duck Duck Gooze shirts. Other than that my wife and I had a great time at the event and we really enjoy most of their brews. read more

They've got the monthly Track series which the flavors can't typically be found anywhere else. Unique flavors and pairs really great with any food truck there. What's also really great from here is the Framboise de Amorosa. Then try The Angel's Share. Just don't try them in reverse order. read more

Beer lovers your prayers have been answered! Best beer, great atmosphere, and friendly staff. I've returned more than a few times and it's a bit of a drive for me too, so that should tell you how good it is. They also have this cool thing where they have a camera that streams video through their website. We called our friends and had them go online to watch us jump around and wave hi while we enjoyed our delicious beers. If you're afraid to be caught on camera it's quite easy to avoid. Who knew this brewery was tucked away in an industrial area? You're in the heart of the brewery which makes for a nice vibe. The vibe is VERY low key... sitting on sacks around barrels and such. Sadly, I didn't love the beer which is an important ingredient for a brewery, but the vibe is great for a drink after work with friends. Def not a place to take a date or make a night out of. Oh, and there isn't food. There's a Thai Food Truck parked out front, but don't expect your typical brewery fare. read more

Was excited to make this stop at the source of great local Belgians. Went out of our way for this and it was worth it. I had a good grasp on what to expect, already a big fan of many of the beer varieties. I sampled many decent-sized $1 tasters, but wish we had more time to upgrade to a pint or two. Conversation was good with the helpful servers, & HD TVs in the corner had a football game on. Took a few bottles to enjoy at home while chillin, & will try to stop in some other time.
