The members at the Modesto Moose have been GREAT since I joined following the death of a close family member. I recently moved back to Modesto so I renewed my membership again this year! We must remember this is a "service organization" of primarily volunteers so Complaining is NOT allowed! I experienced open arms and warm greeting of welcome from all members I met. Hosting my family members memorial was a comfortable and home town gesture! I am glad I can participate more now that I call Modesto my "home town" once more! Great food-Nice members! Nice Beverages! We all need one another!! Great Job Modesto Moose! read more

Came here for a good friend's baby shower, and thought the hall was just O-K. Located right at the Main Street exit in Modesto, the Moose Lodge is nestled between two decrepit industrial buildings. There's a gravel parking lot in the back, but you'd have to squeeze into an alleyway to even access the lot, or you can go around the corner down another alleyway that's wider. Upon walking inside, you can tell it's a dated banquet hall - I mean, there's a freakin' payphone inside! The walls are wood paneled and pictures of old people hang upon them. We had a grand time, though! It's a good size venue for the event held. And I heard to rent, it was only $300 for about 5 hours. That's a deal to me! Plus, the bartender was NOT stingy on the alcy... my, my SO's, and my friend's drinks were like 80% alcohol and 10% soda/juice/etc. The other 10% was ice lol In the end, definitely a venue on the cheaper side. But it seems the value is worth the outdated interior and strange location. read more

I'm very disappointed in this Moose Lodge. Back on February 12th the Humane Society of Stanislaus County was informed that the Lodge would donate the facility to us for use on June 1st for Family Dance targeting kids under 12 and that all we had to do was pay $155 for insurance. We gave the check on February 12th, which was was then cashed on February 25th. On May 6th I called and spoke with Vince and told him we needed to reschedule and asked for October 19th, the only day the rest of the year our DJ that we paid for had available. Vince said not a problem and said we have October 19th and to call the week of the event. When I called on Monday October 14th, as Vince instructed us to do, I was told that he double booked the lodge and he didn't know what to tell me about the event we scheduled with him earlier in the year and that we needed to find a new location for all these kids and their families to go. I told Vince we needed him to hold to his word and provide us the facility, his excuse was that he has another event that has 150 people and that our 100 person event needed to find another place. Vince said because he felt so bad he would pay for a place for the kids to go. When I called back and spoke to Vince to let him know all the places we found were about $1,000 he told me no way and that I had to give him time to find a place. When he called back he said we needed to move our event to the Turlock Moose Lodge and that was his final offer. That is unacceptable as most of these families are from the Modesto area. We have called and left messages to let Vince know we found a less expensive Venue and asked for him to pay for the new location and give us our $155 check for insurance back, Vince has yet to return any calls. I have to say I am beyond disappointed in the Modesto Moose Lodge and turning away all of these kids simply do to an event he double booked over this one has more people. Vince claimed he called us, but not one phone call or message was received in the months between when he cashed our check and our event. I don't think I will ever look at the Moose organization in the same way. read more

The…read morestaff and the leadership have a very clear focus on helping Seniors get the "movement" and the support that they need with exercise and nutrition programs. I have no association with this group, except that I so appreciate the things they are doing for people in Modesto. That's how I have to begin because this non-profit organization continues to give 110% to senior citizens in our community and they do it so well! I've attended the major events that they put on each year for a couple of years. The Age of Movement in May and their Healthy Aging Summit in October at the Center Plaza. This brings senior citizens, like me, together, and educate them, offer free services from vendors attending the shows, and always with the idea of bringing awareness to our community and love to our seniors. The management staff have done a remarkable job of keeping programs and activities for us going, despite many cuts in programs throughout our county. They have a limited staff, but they pull volunteers together for their big events, from those that just love what they're doing and want to help. If you don't know about this group, get to know them. Research them on Google, and get involved with them. They are one of our city's treasures. By getting involved you'll also get "back into action" and into health too. Farmer John's really spent time and resources making upgrades to everyone's experience when they visit. One of the most noticeable improvements was the concrete paths that have been poured, circling the attractions. This makes the farm completely stroller friendly and so much easier for moms with young kids. My daughter also got to do the pony ride which was such a special treat for her. I should also note that it was only $15 to get in. We went to another pumpkin patch here in the valley that charged just as much, but had way less attractions, amenities and things to do. Thank you farmer John for always making our experiences better and better, and keeping it affordable for us moms!

Bought apples and I made some very good tasty apple hand pies and some wonderful apple sauce. The apple were also eaten every day for a great snack.
