5 stars for Jackie & Michelle. This bar is a staple "dive bar" in Modesto. And I say that with all due respect as it's cool to be a dive bar:) located in Mchenry Village... it offers pool tables, a dart board, dice and a modern jukebox! I can not believe I've never had a PBR until coming here. It's my new favorite water beer. The coldest tall can w/chilled glass for only $3. Or, if you prefer, get it on tap. it's perfect for a hot day or if you want to hang out for a while & talk with the regulars. Or, have a mini Portuguese beer ice cold w/pull off top for $2.75!! cocktails you say? Yep.. just the way you order them. Also, they do have a few IPA's. If you're looking for a dive bar you've come to the right place. The outside is completely nondescript. You wouldn't know it was there unless someone took you there or told you about it. The sign isn't lit up and at night you have to look for it. It's next to a yoga studio and an empty storefront. No windows to the outside world and no outdoor seating. It's definitely a dive bar complete with carpeted floors to soak up all the spilled beer. The bartender we had last night paid just enough attention to us but lord is she fast at serving. The kept the whole bar serviced on a busy Friday night. There's pool tables and a up to date jukebox. Several tvs tuned to sports channels and a well stocked bar to make almost anything you would want to drink. There's only a few true dive bars in Modesto and this is definitely one of them. read more

This bar is awesome, the service is always great. Unfortunately, my complaint is about the clientele. I went there today and had the misfortune of sitting next to a couple of vile older ladies who spewed nothing but vomit from their mouths the entire time I was there. It started with politics and I will go to Facebook when I want to hear that. So I put my earbuds in so I wouldn't have to deal with it. Throughout the visit I tried to remove my earbuds but every time I did I heard high school drama from a woman probably in her fifties. At one point she was making fun of her Uber driver who was Indian. The whole group thought everything she said was funny. She then went on to trash woman after woman in her life. This woman thrives by trashing other people. I was diligent about the headphones as I do not like bullies. She realized that I wasn't having her BS she she started in on me. She was calling me cue ball and kept accusing her frieds of acting like me (acting like what, sitting here ignoring your. On her way out she decided to make another comment. The problem with this lady is she thinks she is hot and her male friends that are her age kiss her ass and let her get away with her garbage. I tried to go outside and confront her for being one of the worst human beings I had encountered but her friends got her out of there knowing the crud was going to hit the fan. I do not let people pull their high school drama on me without a little burn back. Also, I heard her friend say she was a teacher. Well, I am also a teacher and I think it is pathetic to put down Indians in that manner. How are you going to go back to your classroom and serve your Indian students after saying all of that garbage? Hopefully, they will ban these two vile women. read more

Total dive bar located inside the McHenry Village! I came here for a drink to take back to Bauer's 66 1/2 next door. Since they don't serve alcohol at Bauer's, they allow you to come to Vieira's to buy a drink & take it back to enjoy with your meal. They have a pretty big selection of well drinks, beers, and wines. I was excited to see that they carried Red Stripe so with no hesitation I ordered one to take back and enjoy with my burger. They have a pool table, foosball table, & dartboard. The crowd seemed older and more mature, unlike the gangsta & thug crowds downtown. My only complaint would be that the bartender seemed as though she did not want to be there because not once did she crack a smile and when I asked for some recommendations on a drink for my cousin she seemed irritated. All in all, when I'm in town & want to be on chill mode, I'd go back again for a drink or two. read more

I'm not sure if her sense of humor or her taste in music is better because I love both. Her drinks are creative and delicious. So far this is my favorite dive bar in Modesto. When you walk into this place you just know it has not changed much from whenever the hell it originally opened. It screams late 70's/early 80's bar, but it suits the vibe to a T! The drinks are as cheap as they come (well drinks avg between $3-4 a piece) and are poured with a heavy hand! The crowd tends to have an even mix of young, old, and just plain desperate...but that's half the fun of a spot like this. It's like mingling with Spider-mans rogue's gallery on their night off. No one is really looking for trouble, just a cheap stiff drink, a good jukebox, darts/pool table, and a few 1/2 way decent folks to make beer goggle eyes with. Pro-Tip: Ask about the Portuguese wine at the back of the bar. It's in a ceramic jug like it's straight out of The Legend of Zelda. read more

Ahhh... Vierra's :) I have been going to this tiny hole in the wall since I turned 21...so about 6 years. When you get sick of the downtown nightlife in Modesto, you're sick of $8 to $10 martini's and long islands, and you're just plain sick of the wannabe gangstas and the drunken barely legals, I suggest checking out Vierra's. Located in McHenry Village...it is an unlikely addition to the over priced, snobby shops it is surrounded by. But, that's the thing about dive bars. What they lack in cosmetic appeal, they usually make up for in patrons, bar specials and a jukebox where you can always find an eclectic mixture of Bob Seeger, Poison and Seal. I said Eclectic and I meant it. Vierra's is never too crowded and one of the best things about it is the restaurant connected to it (which actually has nothing to do with Vierra's) called Ceyenne. It's a Cajun restaurant open from like 5 p.m to like 4 a.m. I'll review that next :) read more

I'm not really a huge fan of bars these days, and although this is strictly speaking, a dive bar, it's one of the cleanest I've ever seen - apart from maybe Trappist Provisions - which is saying something. It's got a cowboy vibe to it (Modesto, so no surprise), but not over the top, and lots of bar gimmicks including a pool table. There's only a couple of beers on tap, but a load more in the fridge, and a not too bad selection. The bartender was really friendly, and it's the kind of place it seems like you could run into some real characters if you stuck around. The server Paula gave the worst service I've ever experienced. I wasn't sure what to order and asked for her to recommend if there were any special drinks with vodka. She cut me off stating "no" before I could finish my question. I tried to reiterate my question, but unfortunately was cut off again and she told me that there were no special prices. When I explained that wasn't what I meant and was just asking if there were any special drinks she could recommend, she told me she assumed I meant price. I let her know that if she were to have let me finish my question then she wouldn't have made that assumption. She angry responded that she was sorry and I thanked her. I asked for something with vodka and she began to make my drink. A friend I was with asked what was wrong, which I responded with "fine, the bartender cut me off and I responded". Paula then intervened while mixing my drink and said "if you have something to say, you can say it to my face!" I then responded with "sure, in the future I would recommend letting the customer finish their question before making assumptions and to not automatically assume that when asked for a special drink that the customer is asking for a special price". She gave me my drink and I thanked her. The person I was with inquired why I responded when Paula invited me to say something, in which case I responded with "I don't see why we're discussing this. I'm enjoying my drink and have moved on. At that point, Paula angrily intervened and shouted "then move on! Quit talking about it!" I told her that I wasn't talking to her and that I can say whatever I want to the person I was with. She responded sarcastically with "yes, you can say whatever you want and I can serve whoever I want." I responded with "great, I was only planning on having one drink today". This place definitely does not scream "Come on in boys! The party is over here!" It's a tiny hole in the wall located on a sad sad corner of a very "uppity" shopping center. There are no windows, a solid door. I swear to you that the first time I came to this place I thought I was walking into a strip joint. I have had some great times here. Whether it be playing darts and listening to the jukebox, kicking back on a Sunday afternoon watching football, partying like hell on a Tuesday night... or a Saturday (can't tell the difference anymore).. this place is just ... there. Friends of mine and my boyfriends always go here so we finally take up our friends on this invite, walk in a it seems to be pretty chill to have a few drinks with you're friends. We go up to the bar wait in line and I ask for a Bloody Mary with no spice, she stares at me and asks "well why do you even want one then" turns around and I can see her talking to her co worker talking shit her demeanor and attitude is a straight give away...OK then that's cool guess I can't have preference on how I want my drinks weather you think it's stupid or not....brush it off ignore that little situation she proceeds to make it with what seems like irritation.bwe pay walk away...go and sit with down with friends, boyfriend goes back to order a pitcher for our friends he was at the bar for about 12 minutes I asked what took so long and he tells us that she was arguing with him about "cutting" when for At Least 10 minutes he was waiting to be taken care of, which we all clearly saw. And also tells him that if we tired acting this way downtown that we would be I for it? That's funny because we're down town every god damn weekend and have never ever had a problem until we came here! The Then our friends start telling us how mean the bartender is but they always just brush it off, then I'm like wow so she's not just having a bad night she's just really like this. Then another one of our friends that is a regular there comes back from ordering a beer for her self and says the bartender ID her for the 4th time that night then proceeds to tell her that she always causes problems when she is here and that if she was her mother that she would have back handed her! (My friend is 4"6 and one of the nicest people you will ever meet) wtf, Then that's when I decided to go on Yelp then saw all these reviews and was like WOW when I read multiple reviews about the Bloody Mary's so I'm just pretty pissed at this point and slightly tipsy so we're sitting at the table in the back and I'm still talkin about how mean this lady is and the bar back was in the back getting something hears me saying this turns around and says "oh you shouldn't talk about her because she will come over here and beat you're ass" okay WHAT?!!!! YOu as an employee just told a customer that you're co worker was gonna beat my ass. Wtf lol wow, ok then immediately leaves and goes and tells her that's when I wrote a few pieces of advise to them on a napkin left it on the bar and left. Went out side like a few buildings down where the rest of our friends were and we were talking about how we were never coming here again and then the bartender comes out side infront of the building and starts talking shit from a distance lol I was pretty tipsy by then so I wasn't paying attention to what she was saying I just cut her off and told her to go back in side and to continue her shitty customer service...then she's still about 25 feet away and has her friend come at my trying to fight me...LOL this night is absurd right? Her "friend" some fat light skinned somoan looking bitch is trying argue with me about I don't even know what cause she wasn't EVER at the bar the entire time literally came out of no where so I doubt she knew what was really going on and even if she did I'm sure she still would have done what she was doing. There were tons and tons of more petty little remarks and incidents but I'm just letting you all know the main events that took place this night , from what I heard it's the owners daughter so he ethier lets her act this way or doesn't know and I believe she is a manger so I'm not sure if anything can be done. And last but not least we walk over to CvS to get water as we are paying my bf asks the woman at the register hey have you ever been to Vierras? This is actually a fun spot, too bad we hesitate to go here because the bar situation is a gamble. The older female bartender takes forever and is very rude. One of my friends always orders Bloody Marys, and everrrrrry time at Vieira's, it's an issue. As a former bartender, not only do I find this extremely unnerving, but I also don't see what the problem is. I loved making Bloody Marys! They can be slightly more time consuming than a typical beverage, but not bad, and besides, who cares, it's a drink and customers should be able to order what they want! I used to go here all the time last year until some BS happened that ended the night with the bartender asking me and my group to leave although the opposite group started the trouble. We went again a couple of weeks ago and wow, did the service go to crap. We had a different bartender this time, an old Caucasian lady and man was she a b*tch. She was definitely favoring what seemed to be "usuals" at the bar. We eventually had enough of not getting enough and left to a different bar. I can honestly say now that I'll never go back. Great bar in Modesto. The older lady bartender is friendly,attentive,quick when it gets busy. Got a pool table, juke-box. Also the rear of this bar is shared with a after-hours restaurant in the back. Cool crowd of customers. Never had problems going to this bar. No fights or drama. I went here with some good friends who are regulars on a Saturday night. I had kept from joining them in the past because of reviews I had read on Yelp. To my surprise it was a lot nicer than I had expected. We arrived early and got one of their nice sized booths for the 5 of us. Everyone had a shot, 5$/person and shared a pitcher of PBR 7$. We bought some tunes on the jutebox and before we realized it there was a larger crowd in the lounge. Some played pool or darts but everyone cheered at the Giants game on TV. We shared a pizza with real parmesean cheese and a bowl of the ohmygosh soo delicious macaroni shells! Overall, the food was really good and the atmosphere was better than I had expected. We enjoyed ourselves and left around 11. If your interested in checking it out, do so on your own, not by the reviews. Everyone will think something different.
