After completing a workout, I was very hungry and took my chances by visiting 'The Lucky Dog' while driving enroute towards Dwight D. Eisenhower Expressway. I honestly feel that this visit was long overdue being that I always drive by the location to-and-from work. I was acknowledged as soon as I drove up to the menu display to place my order within the drive thru. Being unfamiliar with the menu, I felt that I had to quickly look through it to pick out what I wanted or what gauged my interest. Out of the many choices featured, I ended up ordering a Tuna Sandwich but could have easily ordered their Grilled Cheese (on Pita) instead. And I waited for it in an acceptable time frame via my drive thru ordering experience. The Tuna Sandwich came on a sub-style bun topped with pickles, tomatoes, onions, relish, mustard and mayo. And to my luck it was fresh and just as satisfying as it appeared. I do recommend it, but if you consider ordering it be prepared to possibly have a messy situation amidst your enjoyment. Need I say that I enjoyed my order, as I have clearly indicated in this review of The Lucky Dog. Now that we are no longer strangers, I would more than likely visit again being that it sits along my main route driven enroute towards Dwight D. Eisenhower Expressway. this place had fallen off a long time ago but it was nostalgic to go there kinda. Ordered a fish sandwich and fries. The ingredients were just sorry. (Would've had a pic but threw it in the garbage) the tartar sauce was old and disgusting, almost tasted like someone spit in it. There was this very weird funky smell coming from the sauce. lettuce was days old. Tomato was petty, onions were flavorless. How are your onions flavorless???The grease was definitely old and the place just has an old wont let go of the past vibe, you can still smell old cigarettes embedded in the workings of the building. What the heck kind of ice cream is this? My girlfriend and I are still very confused. We wanted some ice cream, and I got her a chocolate ice-cream cone and as soon as it was handed to her, it almost immediately collapsed upon itself and fell on the table. I don't feel like there was dairy in it. It was sub-Wendy's Frosty quality. What is this sort of thing called? I never encountered this before I moved to the Chicago area. In any case, I don't like the stuff. It's as unsatisfying as decaf coffee is to me. The food itself was just heartburn waiting to happen. If I was drunk as heck I would have been happy with it, but I was not. Also quite pricey for what it is. I don't even remember what I got, to be honest. This was a few weeks ago. My family and I always order from this place, a few times a week, as we only live down the block. I tried placing an order over the phone for a salad at around 12:40. The girl says she doesn't take orders that late over the phone, as they are closing soon. She told me I have until 1 to come in and place the order . So I get there at 12:50 and the doors were locked. I tried calling and she shut off all the lights and said the cooks didn't want to make the simple salad because they already cleaned up the kitchen. What a great place for cheap but good tasting food! I've tried a few different things here and I have to say this is overall a good place to eat. The fires are especially great! Cons: Very high counter/register for ordering would make it hard for a smaller person to be able to order quickly or see the horchata sign all the way in back. Not that much of a problem . Just found it a bit unusual for me but I understand if safety is the reason or something of that sort. A tiny bit rude in the service department . I'm used to smiling waitresses and waiters when I order food but I can understand if their tired so I really don't hold it against them; we don't know their hours after all! But I do know some people expect "gracious servers" for all things so just in case that could sour someones perception of this I'm giving you a heads up. Personally, I found that this really wasn't all that much of a problem, for me. I'm there to eat after all, not socialize. Small tables. Enough to fit one person comfortably on each side, maybe two if you really push it and are more on the thin side. This was the only real annoyance for me. I have been here two times, and the first time I tried getting a tamale and cheese sticks. The tamale left much to be desired as it came from a microwavable package and was kind of soggy, and the fried mozzarella sticks were good - but hey, who's gonna mess up cheese sticks, right? In any case, came back a second time and got the cheesy Italian beef. One of the best things I have had since being in the Chicago area. I have tried a few from other places, but theirs is amazing! I've always liked lucky dog and I've never had a problem with them. Last night my boyfriend decided to do a late night run for some lucky dogs. We got a cheeseburger with fries, a drink, and a cheesecake slice. My fries were just thrown in the bag, no holder. But whatever food was okay. Then we went to eat the cheesecake. The lady taking the order from the drive thru was nice. I went here not too long ago and I ordered a gyro sandwich. I didn't like it. The meat was a bit cold and the cucumber sauce(I can't spell it) was very sweet. I didn't eat it all. I just ate a few pieces of the meat, then wrapped it up and put it in the fridge. My son and I ate here yesterday. I had the gyro special (gyro, fries, and drink) and my son had a double bacon cheeseburger special. We both were very pleased. My gyro meat was slightly singed on the edges which I like and their sauce was unusual in that it had a slight dill flavor which I also really liked. The fries were hot and good but nothing extra special. My son's double bacon cheeseburger was delicious. He said the bacon was very thick and had a good smoked flavor. Sometimes, they screw up on an order and add something you asked them not to include, etc, but the staff is always very pleasant. Lucky Dog has a great variety of food they have hotdogs, burgers, tacos, gyros, soup, chili, nachos and much more. They have a great staff who work hard everyday and are very friendly towards customers. I recommend eating at lucky dog. The food is a bit pricey but it's definitely delicious and worth it. They even make their own gyro sauce but if you would rather have regular cucumber sauce let them know so they can use that instead of their own. It's a very easy fix. read more
