    My steak bomb yum

Food was great if you are looking for a comfort food that is affordable and generous for the price I came back with friends on day two and treated them. I was impressed and still support the local small business.

West Side access to Albany Courthouse

I was looking through Yelp for favorable reviews for an easy lunch spot in Albany...and the Mad Platter Cafe had raving reviews for their signature sandwiches. I grew up in the Northeast - and Nate has nailed his sandwiches. I ordered the kabob salad, the Pastrami, and the Riverside. All were exceptional. And yes - Nate is in the basement of the courthouse. For easiest access, use the West side entrance and take the elevator or stairs to the basement. Call ahead and he'll have your order ready - he also delivers through GrubHub and Doordash.

Half of the breakfast burrito and half of the amazing steak bomb sandwich.

It was very busy when we walked in, but the wait was short. We were starving and didn't want to wait for a table, so we sat at the bar instead. Best decision ever. The service was incredible. The girls were so sweet, Casey is amazing! and the hostess was incredibly accommodating. The food was hands down the best breakfast my husband and I have ever had. If you haven't been here yet, you absolutely need to try it, you won't be sorry. The only regret you'll have is not coming in sooner. Even the coffee was fire!

I had never been to this side of Albany before, so it was great. Heads up for those of you that have never been here, there is parking on the street, or some parking lots I believe. It's an older building with character. It was really busy, but they fit us right in. I don't quite remember everything on the menu, I do remember they had a wide variety of breakfast, and lunch. There were some salads calling my name, but ultimately there was a French dip that won me over. I must say, I am happy with my choice. It was very flavorful, and I also added a cup of chili. I would recommend both. Service was fast, and the staff were all really nice. Sorry, I didn't get any pics. I was too excited to see my family.

If you've ever rolled into Albany late in the evening and thought, "Now where in the world am I…read moregonna get a decent bite?" allow me to point you toward an old standby: Pop's Branding Iron. This place has been holding down the fort for what feels like forever, and walking in feels a bit like stepping into a time capsule where the coffee's hot, the plates are big, and nobody's in a hurry to reinvent the diner. One of my personal favorites is the patty melt simple, classic, and exactly what a patty melt ought to be. My daughter has her own favorite on the menu Monte-Cristo with fries that could probably feed a small ranch crew, That's kind of part of the charm here. The portions are big, the prices are fair, and when a lot of places in town have already shut their lights off for the night, Pop's is still there doing its thing. Now, I'll be honest it shows its age a little. A bit of cleaning and polishing here and there wouldn't hurt. But honestly, that worn-in feel is part of the story. If you're looking for something affordable, old-fashioned, and dependable especially later in the evening Pop's Branding Iron is definitely worth a stop. Four stars from me, and a tip of the hat to a place that's been feeding folks for generations.

Pop's Branding Iron is a good, solid diner with quite a few menu options. Breakfast (served all…read moreday) is my usual go-to here, but I've sampled a few appetizers and bites of food from the dinner menu here and there. The portions are very generous, and considering the prices of food these days, their prices are very reasonable. This is a great spot to eat at if you're looking for a lot of food at a great value. The food and service are about average, but to me, this is all a decent diner really needs to be. A big pro is that they are open late (7am-10pm daily). I recommend that they update their online menu, which advertises serving dishes 24-hours a day, which may confuse some customers. All in all, a good, reliable spot to eat a meal! There's a lot of dining space here, so it's good for both small and larger parties.

The menu leans into classic American comfort food, and everything feels like it's made with care rather than rushed out of a kitchen. The standout for me is the turkey Reuben. It's one of those sandwiches you think about later in the day. The turkey is tender, the sauerkraut adds just the right amount of tang, and everything comes together perfectly on grilled rye. This Reuben is dressed with a smoked pepper spread instead of mustard and this is what absolutely turns it up compared to your usual turkey Reuben. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, the kind of place where you can sit with a cup of coffee and take your time. If you're in Salem and looking for a solid comfort-food café, Bodhi Cafe--and especially that turkey Reuben--is well worth the stop.

The prices are reasonable and give folks in town another breakfast, brunch, or lunch spot. Because they're gaining in popularity (you go, Bodhi!), I really hope they put up signage, like Ba's did, that tells people to order before sitting. When I was there on Friday, I managed to grab the last available spot after I ordered. There were many people who were holding spots while they waited for others to join and others who had ordered but were looking around for a place to sit. People don't seem to get the concept of sit after you order, so I hope the shop can help remind/teach folks.
